Hello all, I'm about to purchase a Mytouch Slide for use with AT&T, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any issues with anything not working (GPS, SMS/MMS, etc.). I know I won't have AT&T 3G, only EDGE, but I can live with that. I searched but found very llittle on the subject, I'm assuming thats because both this handset, and this section of the forum, is fairly new.
Hopefully I'll be able to learn more about the handset in the next few weeks, and be abe to start helping others around here too. This appears to be a rather productive, professional forum. To that end, I'll say thanks in advance
What exactly are you asking.
So far the only people I know of, that can unlock this Phone is T-Mobile. Also, you must have an account in good standings & be a customer longer than 3 months..

What, really? So, I can't just buy one from, anywhere, and go use it? I'm new to this whole unlocking thing (CDMA background, and I work for a CDMA carrier), so I'm not really sure how the unlocking process even works. I guess that means I'd be much better served purchasing one that is already unlocked?
Well you can ask them lol but yah Check local listings new mytouch slides are only 300 and get them unlocked idk XD sorry

I'm sorry, I don't understand what your post says. The MyTouch Slide is significantly more than $300 new. It was posted above that they can't be unlocked. Are you stating that infact isn't true, and they can be?

unlocking works the say way it does for CDMA as it does with GSM. The only difference is instead of having to take my GSM phone to my carrier (or call them) to have my ESN number changed to my new unlocked phone like i would have to do with a CDMA phone. I can just pop my SIM card into my new unlocked GSM phone.
Even if you work for a CDMA carrier you should know that. If you work for any cell phone carrier you should know that

I understand the idea behind being able to take my sim card out of one GSM phone, and put it into another. The network looks for the info on your sim, not your ESN/MEID. And honestly, the only carriers that 'unlock' any CDMA phones currently are a couple of the pre-paids (MetroPCS & Cricket) as far as I know. You can't take a Verizon phone to Sprint, or visa versa. I work for a MetroPCS retailer, I know all about flashing CDMA phones to the MetroPCS network, and it's alot more than simply opening it up to be able to be used with anybody. Not to mention needing to use a 3rd-party flashing software that will flash Metro info to the device, as well as extract the MEID from the handset and add it to the MetroPCS database so the MetroPCS activation system will recognize it as a usable handset. So, it's really not a fair comparison.
Regardless, it still leaves my question unanswered. I've never dealt with GSM phones outside of simply buying a new one at the AT&T store. Being able to 'unlock' it to use with any carrier is a new idea to me. So, instead of everybody telling me I'm stupid and that I should know how it works, can ANYBODY point me in the direction of an explanation of what it takes to unlock a GSM phone, what changes need to be made, and why a MyTouch Slide is special WRT it not being able to be unlocked?

Might I ask how you got yours unlocked?
I got mine unlocked from theremoteunlocker.com
Gsm phones are locked via its hardware just like how when you use your pc the bios is software interlayed into your mobo so they could lock it if they wanted to only accept the types of processors they accept e.g tmobile locked their phone (the mobo) to only accept the tmobile simcard (the processor) the unlock code is a delevoper or admin unlock code that removes the simcard lock so you can use any simcard on it

Got it, I just figured that out from reading the website that you said you used. SIGNIFICANTLY easier task than 'unlocking' a CDMA handset. I've already sent them an email, if I can infact get one unlocked, I'll be buying one this week. Thanks!!

Look around on tmobiles website, the have the conditions for giving you a unlock code posted. If you meet the conditions they will email you the unlock code.
I did it with my slide, I called them Friday and they emailed me a unlock code by Monday. Free and easy.
Found the URL. http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm51885.xml

I'm assuming by perfect you're not including 3G since the slide isn't set or rather, doesn't contain the correct radio module to use AT&T's 3G band. Or does it and we're being lied to by the carriers (no surprise there) hmm...
I need some help. At&t won't unlock the Sim claiming "exclusivity" although this device is released by every provider known to man. Anyways, the voodoo sim unlock app for the international S3 is not compatible yet for the At&t 747. What should I do? I need to use straight talk and would like to be able to use t mobiles network. Should I return it or wing it? Anyone been in this position before? Does anyone have any info on whether voodoo app developer can or is working on building an unlock app for US versions?

Hey when I enter the *# code to see if my ATT GS3 is locked I don't get that screen that pops up on the vid showing its locked. How can I tell the phone is locked to ATT?
Thanks
U check by putting a non att sim in. It will ask for unlock code. You dial *#06# to bring up your phones IMEI number not to check if its locked.

Well there was a video on the website that had a *# code to show if your phone was locked, so I tried that and got nothing so maybe I need a dif SIM other than the ATT one
yea i think it only works on international one. doesnt work on mine either
Ummm... Straight Talk uses AT&T's network. You don't need to unlock the phone to use it with them.
Edit: you're using it with ST's T-Mo sim? Why?
root it, then go here. id stay away from direct patching, but it shouldnt harm by plugging it in, reading the nvram.bin and generating a code

I was wondering the same thing. I thought I read you could use either an Att phone or a TMO phone on straight talk with their sims. Also in the TMO GS2 threads there are people saying they didn't even need an unlock code to use the GS2 on straight talk. I've never used Att or TMO but I'm taking a close look at straight talk. In general is it true Att has better coverage than TMO? I know they are both better than Sprint.

Same here.
There's differences in coverage. T mobile more hspa speed 6-7 mb/s, at&t 2-4 mb/s. At&t has more coverage overall coverage tho.

But the AT&T version can't run on T-Mobile's bands. Nobody even knows if it will eventually be able to, either. Until then, you're not even going to get 3G
Well, bought the unlock code from cellunlocker instead, well see how it goes.I want to use the att version on the Rogers network.
Got the unlock code works fine, now using the att cersion on rogers's 4G network !
Thanks for the info on the two networks. I am thinking about waiting for the next GSM unlocked Nexus phone and running that on a prepaid plan that uses TMO or ATT's network. Hopefully we'll see one before the holidays.
Is there a way to prevent ATT from knowing that I am using an S3 on their network?
Currently, I am using an HTC Vision and their system can't determine what phone it is because this is not a phone they offer.
But because they do offer the S3, I'm concerned it will show up in their system as an S3 and they will force me to change my data plan.
Thanks.

But what about the one from expansys with no contract? Or another site? They appear unbranded.
Is there some software I can use to hide it?
ATT picks up on IMEI's, Serial Numbers and SKU numbers. If the phone you have is unlocked, unbranded or imported they will not register it because those numbers are not in their system. I had done that same thing away back in the day with an international HTC Topaz, which later ATT ended up offering (I dont remember what they ended up calling it). The guy in the store gave me an unlimited dummy phone internet plan saying that because this phone did not come from ATT and was not originally registered to them they wouldnt know what type of phone it was. Now I cant swear by this as it was years ago but it would make sense.
I just ordered my phone contract-free from Amazon Wireless. It's a phone that is set to work on the ATT network. I just hope they don't force me to switch data plans.
I just wonder if there is something I can do to change the IMEI - but if it was easy to do, I suppose that cell phone thieves would be having a field day. I just wonder if I can switch it over, maybe hardware-wise, from my HTC Vision or something.

Seems like loading up CM 9/10 will change your IMEI.
Really? That seems... odd.
How does it know it's not being changed to an already-in-use IMEI number?

it's from AT&T whether or not it's on contract. they will know what phone it is and they will charge you the proper data plan for it. you can't get around it.

IPhone only obviously....
Unlock it.co.nz
Just visit this site with browser and it will set up a custom apn profile....no more data plan!
Simply delete the profile in settings if/when you want to use at&t data again!
Its like using an int. Phone afterwards....that's why I think changing the apn on the S III will work as well. Thats why the carriers lock the APN settings by default in stock roms.

I've seen several people say theirs got changed
Long time ago I used to buy Nokia Nxx phones on eBay and just get dumb phone data plan, which was unlimited, and they never knew what exact phone I had. Last one was N95 Mini, and AT&T had their phones and data plans categorized into smart and dumb back then.
That was even after we got notes on the bill saying that if you have X phone, like and iPhone, and didn't have smart phone data plan, they would add it automatically. I got away with it, but on my account it would just show a generic unknown phone
So i bought my tmobile note 3 on CL. Bad idea yes i know. Well the phone was working super awesome for 3 weeks and now its reported lost/stolen. So no LTE or service. RegionLock Away has worked for a lot of people (including myself). Are you sure you can't get it unlocked using that? There's a thread that has a lot of troubleshooting tips somewhere in this section for Chainfire's app (things like using a non-T-mobile SIM, not allowing the app to reboot (i.e. rebooting manually and changing SIM card) and inputting the correct APN settings).
Edit: Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471742
I was able to unlock following the instructions in the first post, so if you haven't done that, you might want to try again.
Well the thing with region lock away is i want to use my phone through tmobile. My note 3 is a tmobile phone

I'm sorry to tell you this, but if it's blocked by T-Mobile, there's really nothing to be done. T-Mobile just won't budge (although I have read posts where people basically lied and got T-Mobile to unblock the device, but I am dubious about those claims). Your only options are to unlock to another carrier, or sell the device. If you sell it on Ebay to an international buyer, that would be the best way to recoup most of your money. Neither option is ideal, of course.
Yep, I almost got burned buying a s3 for my mom. Luckily we met at a tmobile store and verified the esn. Turns out it was reported lost/stolen. Chalk it up as a learning experience.
Ivan0323
Like was said a couple of posts prior:
With a BLACKLISTED - N900T - you can:
1) Root, and Use Region Lock Away, it may possibly unlock the sim slot - so you can use an At&t based Sim Card. (Or, you may still need to get an unlock code from someone.)
2) Or - Sell for what its worth on Ebay.- Cut your losses, and find another Handset.
I have bought more than a few from people here locally (different models), seems Craigslist is running rampant (or rather the criminals) with those who are buying a phone, selling for cash on cl, and then reporting lost / stolen for an insurance claim. Then the buyer is stuck holding the bag, and has a tablet. (Or, bends and changes carriers possibly). Its sad but the only true way to be sure the device will be able to be used, is to go with the seller to (Tmo, Vzw, Att etc.) and get the rep to note the account. I have tried to do so via the 800 number, and had mixed results.
Good luck.
Be well.
This might seem like an odd question but I was poking around my note 4 today and i'm noticing something interesting within the settings. If you go into Settings> More Networks> Mobile Networks you can see a small list if mobile network options. If you select Network Mode, you can see it has GSM/UMTS as an option to select. Going back you can also see within that small list of network options a grayed out setting "Network Operators." This leads me to question, is this phone capable of being used on both GSM and CDMA? If not with factory Sprint settings, possibly something the hardware is able to do unlocked? I just find it interesting that the device offers different network options than the standard CDMA/LTE that I am used to only seeing on and once more there is no carrier branding on the device at all outside of the initial splash screen upon start-up.
What do you guys think?
Before my sprint note 4 was activated, in the apn settings,i was able to edit it as there was nothing in there. Once I had activated the phone it showed the sprint one and had became grayed out being uneditable.

So i can know assume that the phone may come factory unlocked and that we should add another carriers apns and sim card to try it out. So It turns out that sprint used the same lock method as the note 3 on this.
