Xda.com Website - Report issues here - About xda-developers.com

Please use this thread to report issues with the xda.com website.
Rather than have members create a new thread every time they can't quote a post, edit a post, are having problems with Chrome, etc, etc, let's try to keep it all in one place.
Please specify if you are reporting a problem with PC or mobile browsing.
Please keep this thread free of clutter and unnecessary discussion so the admins can identify issues quickly.
This thread is not for feedback and suggestions, they go here.
If you want to report issues with the xda Android app, look here.
(Search is down at the moment, so I can't see if a similar thread has been created elsewhere. I can't seem to find one in this forum after going through the last 10 pages. If this is a duplicate, please let me know.)

This whole forum is used for reporting issues with the XDA website
I'm working on the search issue, reindexing the database right now.

If you want a new thread every time there is a new issue, then feel free to delete this one.
There might be an issue with the mention system too, but I'll report that on the appropriate thread.

M still having reloading issues
Xda website keeps on refreshing

HTC Desire 'Oxygen' (Adam G) Rom General Discussion.

This is the place for all discussions by non developers relating to the various builds and tweaks of Oxygen ROM for the HTC desire. XDA rules state that you must be developing a Rom or tweak to post in development forums- we do hope for them to visit and help out though .
Feel free to post experiences, thankyou's, bugs, feature requests, and questions etc... I am by no means an expert, so please just post to the general community, hopefully someone will come up with a meaningful reply. No response from Adam G or any developers is implied. Please use the bug/ feature request tracker to be officially heard.
Please search before making questions so members are not repeating questions and answers. And please be nice... even if someone does post a repeat question, or doesn't 'get' something, etc.....
Cheers,
Gavin

On a serious note, if you're posting in the ROM thread and your post relates to the ROM and its issues then there's no issues posting in the ROM thread
There were complaints in this specific ROM thread about people posting non dev. questions, so Senior Mod, pulser_g2, suggested that a thread in General wouldn't do any harm for people to discuss the rom etc. I've had to clean them up.
Personally I think this is a good idea, and if it was adopted by more developers we could keep the actual rom thread clean and tidy. The cam port thread is a good example of a clean dev thread, although the fact I'm cleaning it every day is a bit of a problem!
Ideally we would like to keep the rom threads for posting the rom, discussing technical aspects of the rom, and posting bug reports etc.
@ the OP. It might be a good idea for you to post in the actual rom development thread and point everyone here so they can start posting on this thread.
@ everyone who has decided to "reserve" posts. Stop it! The OP reserving a space is fine, but c'mon now people stop taking the you know what!
It was just in jest, fair enough about the actual thread being clogged up. I still stand that if it refers to an issue with the ROM of its features it should go in the ROM thread but banter should go in here!!
To be honest I think it was the sheer amount of questions that aren't actually rom related, and the number of times the same question is asked over and over and over and over.... I'm sure you get the picture!
The Leedroid rom thread is another example of why a thread here in General might be a good idea. I spent an hour one night and deleted over 150 posts in the last 20 pages.
Anyway we shall see how this goes and take it from there. I'm guessing it will be trying to fight a losing battle. Hey ho
The other option is to create a ROM Discussion sub-forum for each ROM to have a thread...

I Vote this. Keep a 'General Discussion' thread for each ROM in their own Forum to keep things clean.
Despite the fact I hate them, a chat room dedicated to each ROM (Bandwidth Permitting) might be an idea. Usually once someone has voiced their opinion/Question they soon Dissipate. Could same some useless posts clogging up a Thread

as the rom in question was in beta, and you were testing it so to speak you had every right to be contributing to the thread.
Also, brilliant idea to have a separate thread containing the less irrelevant things, would possibly be even more brilliant if Adamg added a link and little explanation in his oxygen OP of what this is and why it's here.
Deleted- background discussions and resolutions are in process....
Alright, I am going to kick this thread off with its first potential issue. I have noticed it about 4 timesthat, over the last 5 days, suddenly my WiFi has switched off and I realised I an surfing on my 3g data connection. I just have to re-enable WiFi and it is back again, but this can cost me a lot of data depending on what I am doing. I have juice defender on, but not touching WiFi, and I use Y5 battery saver to switch WiFi on and off when in and out of range. I have not had this issue for months with any other Rom. I have reinstalled y5 and it still happens. Has anyone else got this issue or any ideas. I am on oxygen beta 0. 1. 3.
Cheers.

I have not experienced this problem on any version of this ROM (had on other ROMS) and no such problems on beta beta v0.2.
i am trying some more searches but can't find anything that seems relevant.... i have had it ages ago, flashed another rom and forgot about it. the channel is still on 13- sometimes that resets to 11- (i have had that a few times with different roms), so it's not that btw.

Maybe try uninstalling the Y5 app and then see if you have the same issues, also I am sure I read something (and I may be mistaken) that it's not a good idea having your wifi router on channel 13.........
I had it more without y5, it switches to 3g regularly then, always has- nor all the time, just quite often without on a few different roms. Maybe it us because I have two networks in my house... its complicated, I need it.
I am in Australia we have 13 channels on our wifi here, I need it on auto.
The nofullsleep fix gave me wifi error so I got rid if it.
I woke up this morning and it was on 3g, it had reset my regulatory domain back to 11. I have reinstalled y5. I tried to post on the bug tracker, but chrome and opera on my phone both timed out when trying to submit. Will try from my home pc when I get the chance.
Everything else is silky smooth, most stable rom ever by far.

[Q] Do you know what's dumb?

A: Having a posting requirement for new users. I understand it cuts down on the "how do i root my phone" posts, but it seems just as bad to require 10 posts in a non-dev section before allowing new users to post in the dev section.
My real issue is that yelp does on work on the virtuous g2 rom. I noticed other people were having the same issue, and I would like to reply to them and let others know that this is a problem. But I have to get 10 posts first. Awesome.
10 posts is not alot...
Get yourself started with this thread. Lol.

I am having the same problem with Yelp. Whenever I open Yelp using Virtuous 0.9 it force closes upon opening the application.

If your looking for an answer to your problem with yelp FC's on the Virtuous 0.9.0, I seriously doubt that it will get much attention or a solution posting under a thread titled "[Q] Do you know what's dumb?" You might try posting in the Virtuous thread.
its pretty dumb that you wasted a thread on this, actually. haha. they want members to actively participate. 10 posts is not alot at all.
there are TONS of ways to participate on XDA to get 10 posts. share your screenshot or some wallpapers - there's 2. Go check out the Q&A section - surely there's something you can contribute to in there.
I realize it's frustrating, but the point isn't to annoy and frustrate new users - it's to prevent new users from annoying and frustrating people who are contributing to the community in general. It's also to encourage new people to participate and contribute in ways other than bug reporting/issue reporting. Not that bug/issue reporting isn't important, but if you come on here, report your bug, and then leave, the community gains nothing. If you join in some of the more community-building threads, the community gains a valuable member.

A: Thinking it's cool to post "how do I root my phone" in the dev section. Nuff said.
Anyway, yelp not working isn't something that belongs in the dev section and I'm sure they know they're not alone in that issue, they don't need you to clutter a thread with 'hey, me too!!'. I'm sure there will be a solution to the issue and in the meantime I'd just use the website.

[Suggestion] Thread wiki

It is possible to add a "thread wiki" post below the original post?
Eg in slickdeals, you have a common wiki below the OP that people can add stuff
I feel like threads should have things like that...
OP might not have time to update his/her post with relevant info that an another user can add
It might be difficult trying to look through 100 pages of posts to figure out if someone has a similar problem(or through search), while it is easy for multiple people to maintain a common wiki that they can all edit
EG: http://slickdeals.net/f/4803408-Thi...ted-by-users-like-you?p=51265310#edit51265310

Interesting idea, not sure how adaptable it would be with the VBulletin software though. It might also be similar in effect to something I hear is going to be rolled out sometime soon, a post rating system so posts with more positive ratings will move to the top, and posts with enough negative ratings will be hidden.
I think though that the OP should either ask the mods to close the thread or hand it over to another user by contacting the forum admin if they don't have time to maintain their thread with important new information.

I mean small details: like "most commonly encountered problems and solutions", that the OP might have time to add or not
For a dev thread, I rather have the dev (most likely the OP) focus on developing and other people helping out in figuring out problems by common users... users can update the wiki on the un-resolved problems so that the dev can see, without having the dev to read the last 3 pages that were newly posted
you can see in the Slickdeals thread... 179 pages of posts... some of them are "useless" in saying "thanks for the deal", while some people have legitimate questions (like "is this phone quad band") that other users answered 10 pages after their post... having a wiki means common info will be presented clearly without having to dig through the thread, and anyone can update that, not just the OP <--- most important point
EDIT: Slickdeals uses vBulletin too, but customized plugins... there are probably open source plugins out there, just trying to dig through
EDIT2: i guess SD doesn't use pure vBulletin plugins for that... maybe some CMS system

I guess the problem really is that the dev thread should not be used for support, but people insist on treating them that way. I think that there should be a "ROM XXXXX Support Thread" in the device Q&A forums and that is where such questions should go instead. Then there would be no problems with the restrictions since user support questions or bug reports without proper logging, details, attempted fixes, etc. would be moved from the dev thread into the support thread if they were able to post them there.

even in support threads... who would maintain the massive throve of info that many people would ask? the OP(most likely the dev himself who made the thread), or every user who wants to?
example.... if a lot of people post below us, makes it go into 5 pages... someone on page 3 found a plugin that does what it works.... does it make sense for that info to be posted just below my first post by anyone, or is it on me(the OP) to edit my first post "someone on page 3 found this info"?
This is actually an interesting idea. We are busy adding other new features but definitely will keep this in mind. Right now, we do already have a wiki and there is nothing stopping someone from creating a wiki page while adding their thread, and linking to it, but it would be nice to integrate that directly into the page.

yeah, but it's definitely not as seamless as having it right below the original post
lemme see if there are any plugins to "stream" that wiki page into a post...
Came here to request this too. And precisely for the same reasons as the OP.
This would be immediately embraced.
I don't understand the "I'm not sure this would be adaptable with vBulletin" comment since slickdeals uses vBulletin.

another vote for this.
i have been following a thread about about the development of 4.4 for the hisense sero 7 pro (randomblame, davepmer and others are awesome)
anyway it has a post count of nearly 1,000 and people come in and try the latest build, or just wanting to ask a question about the latest builds. the same questions get asked over and over. i don't really think its the fault of the person asking since who is going to read 1,000 posts just to see if his/her problem has been discussed.

Noticing a lot of offtopic and trash posts in 'Windows 8 Development/Hacking '

There are a lot of posts such as
[Q] Windows RT port of WinUAE
Windows8 downgrade to Win7 lost os
webcam rt
work around for 3rd party vpn for remote desktop
Disabling windows hardware button
is there any way to setup program like MediaMonkey on Windows RT ?
that have absolutely no business being in a developer forum. I got all of those off of only the first page of topics, they continue at that rate for the first few pages, at least.
There is seemingly no moderation going on in that section, unless a post is reported. Since I personally feel that reporting each and every one of those posts is too tedious for end users, and would spam up the moderators inboxes too much, I haven't been reporting them.
So, what I'd like is to see either the moderators take a more active interest in the section, or to appoint someone who is active there (My suggestions would be myself, or GoodDayToDie, though do note that I haven't contacted him about this)
I should also note that there's also a problem with users asking the same questions over and over a lot too, it's been asked to port OpenVPN, for example, at least 3 or 4 times, by users who have obviously not even attempted to use searches.
There are also a lot of threads that one of the previous moderators, chrisd1a1, made and stuck which aren't important or helpful at all, or just contain wrong info, including:
Goodbye from me Pointless
hello from your new forum mod Pointless
IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!! Contains some outdated info and is pretty much just a reminder to read the rules
THREAD STRUCTURE - IMPORTANT!!!! Erroneously implies that this is a phone section
Thanks.
As part of the team of moderators responsible for that forum, I'll take the blame for letting some things go for a bit too long.
With that said, a lot of moderating is based on the feedback and reports from those active in the forum. If you see an outstanding issue there, I would encourage you to utilize the report post button. If you need to point out a larger set of issues or have some suggestions, my PM box is always open to you.
I've taken care of all of the problems you've pointed out in your post and I'll be looking at some more maintenance items in the next couple of days.
Thanks for your post.
Thanks. Just for clarification, you don't mind if I report every one of those threads/posts?
Edit: I went through the development subforum, here's what I came up with. A lot of these are old enough that they've been pushed way back and aren't in the way anymore, but I posted them all for completeness sake.

That's fine if you want to report problems in that forum. I or one of the other moderators will take a look at it as they come up.
As for the list you gave me, I'll have a look later on this evening and work through them. If you have any more concerns, I think PMs would be better than posting here. This forum is more for general, site-wide issues. If there's a forum issue, it's usually better to contact one of the moderators directly.

Advanced forum user max title length is too short, truncating them (e.g. "Senior Recognized Developer / Recognized Contribut").
Long forum names are truncated (e.g. "Android Software and Hacking General [Developers O").
Thanks/Likes counts are reduced for most users, sometimes dramatically, seemingly from Aug 29 - Dec 2; possibly related to (7).
Various old forum emojis aren't mapped to new unicode ones, and ones in old posts that do exist (e.g. :cowboy:) don't display.
Some users have reported their OPs and/or attachments reverting to older versions; possibly related to (1). Fixed 12/09 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-115#post-84076621
Broken redirects from old links for many threads/posts.
Disabling Alert in Preferences forces Mobile App Push enabled, one should be able to disable both.
Users who were Senior Members are now only Members, as though the threshold is different. Fixed 12/09 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-115#post-84076615
"Unfurl"ed URL links to posts sometimes show a preview of the OP instead of the correct post (e.g. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/post-84073623

Shell scripts are detected and rejected as attachments, even if renamed as .txt files.
Attempting to enable/disable the WYSIWYG editor while editing certain posts triggers an Oops error; possibly related to (16). Fixed 01/14 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/page-145#post-84284035

What's your favorite theme? Mine is kind of Classic!
Site is very slow.
What is the equivalent of usercp now?
So SLOW it is unusable. Worthless. Seriously, worthless.

I know you guys are probably still working out the bugs, but so far the forum is super slow. It take 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. And yes, my Internet works fine with all other sites at the same time so I know it's not my computer, browser or Internet connection.
Also, for some reason, I can't load page 2 of threads and it seems like some recent posts were not migrated over?
Question. What's this mean for the XDA Android app? Not able to login at the moment. Plans for updating it I take it?
Where is the Search Thread box? I used it all the time! Edit: When using the top of page Search box here is a drop-down menu option to search this thread but it's no working. Edit 2: It has been fixed!
How can you add a title to a post since Advanced is gone?
No option to not include your signature in some posts & in others not like in Advanced before the migration?
Most Thanked posts in the thread (liked) in the right sidebar is gone?

Hopefully the site is still settling in after the migration. I know this can take time. Looking forward to continue here on the new platform and hope all the great experiences of old times remain the same and new ones are added.
I would second the earlier comment about the site being slow but again i probably answered my own question in the first sentence i typed.
it's slow, but the cost of change need some time, imagine you are merge years to a new platform..
it's not easy for sure, and can't be done in one day.
I assume that everyone can already tell but it really is very slow. I hope that it can be fixed!
This is dreadfully slow, 20-30+ seconds to load a single page.
Trying to go to the *last* page of a thread causes it to continuously go to the first page of the thread, and "jump to new" is even more broken, listing "recent" posts but labeling each one as "#1" and then mixing in "first page" posts as well.
Evident for me on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...oid-auto-use-torque-with-androidauto.3657805/
Update: while we're back online, we know the forums are slow. We're actively working to fix some database issues that are causing the slowness. Thanks for your patience.
The site looks great! Thank you for all your hard work on this! I am sure you will get all the bugs worked out soon
Small bug: It seems I can no longer moderate my XDA Community App forum. Is this on the list of things to fix?

You should try the UI before asking, on top right of OP you will see few dots, click that to expand menu and tap edit thread and then you will be able to edit the title. I am finding my way around too.
Oops! We ran into some problems.
I can't log in to xda's Android app, which prompts me for the wrong password, but I can log in to the web, although it's very slow.
