My built in weather widget is supposed to update every 1 hr. However it rarely ever does that. Most of the time I have to manually update the weather. It's getting extremely annoying. My phone is full stock. What can I do?
I can't be the only one
same for me too. plus sometimes when i update it manually, it doesnt update. i have to enable gps + wifi for it to update. :/

I tried it, but I really hated the fact that their widget doesn't have the clock. :crying: And why can't Samsung make a simple weather app that updates?????????

Having a similar issue. I haven't checked thoroughly enough but I think it doesn't update when I'm indoors.. don't really care for weather so I don't notice it too much, but when I'm outside it seems to update normally.

for me..i dont really check it when am outside. but when am home and i use my phone. i see it not updating and it irritates me
Does it indoors and outdoors
It happens to me too.. I'm using the lock screen with weather display as the sign.. in my experience, it updates only when the screen is on, or at least if your phone's using data...
i put on weather refresh every 1 hour, at exactly X:00 minute, but it deviates from hour to hour, sometimes the minutes became 02, 04, etc. sometimes it doesn't even update for a couple of hours, usually when its on standby.. sucks
I put it to hourly updates and it seems like the weather refreshes on screen on. It updated at 7 when my alarm went off and at 8.12 which is the next time I turned the screen on after the supposed update time..

I would be very happy if mine did that (which it does rarely). Most of the time it wont update until I manually update it. Even changing the frequency from hourly to 12hours and then back to hourly doesn't make it update regularly.
Another update. It seems updating becomes a bit of a hit and miss if you activate lock screen weather. Everything was fine until I activated that and it's not updating again. Not a solution but maybe it'll help some people

So since I've had wake locks with Google maps I thought I'd disable the app when I'm not using it, also I disabled all GPS services. And I've been getting 4hours screen on time, my previous best was around 2 and a half.
If you don't use maps much and need the extra battery life , then give it a go.

agreed maps app is the real battery problem.

issue confirmed with latest version of maps...no wakelocks anymore since i deleted maps
I'd love to get 4 hours screen on time with maps enabled , that would be happy days . But I'm a moderate users so 2 and a bit has been fine.

probably through titanium backup. you can uninstall it or freeze it
I used Autorun Manger
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rs.autorun
Unticked all the autostarts in Googlemaps and have no problems with wakelocks. Plus the beauty is I can start Googlemaps as normal.

Trying this now. I have been trying to crack the 2 and half hour screen on time for a while now. And even to get there was rare.
I can't stop the TrafficAppWidget Update even though I'm not using the widget anymore.
Any solutions?

Settings-->Apps-->Running
It has two "Map" apps running, the location service and the traffic widget.
im pretty sure its Lattitude thats causing Maps to stay on....maybe just disabling that will work also?
Edit: never mind

Once you start it manually, do you need to kill the task again or the problem will start or is the problem solely down to services starting?
Update: some screen shots of my battery stats with maps disabled for the day. Well I had to use maps for about 2 hours but then I disabled again. Also brightness us about 40% the rest you can see on stats.

Latitude does have an option for disabling background location updates. I've had that disabled since day one and have never seen wakelocks nor excessive battery drain associated with Maps. Am I doing something wrong to not be having this issue? :-D
Got the same issue, battery drained too fast.
Yeah I've been noticing quite a lot of wakelocks with the latest google maps. The version before I updated didn't seem to have this problem (or it was much less of a problem). I'd rather not have to disable the whole application though.
(Not using latitude either, I know that drains battery but it's actually doing something to show for it)

This.
You dont need to freeze or uninstall maps. Just log out of latitude.
You have to turn of all GPS services to stop maps from running in the background

I'm running "Darkside eVolution" and almost every time my phone reboots, or restarts from shutdown, and sometimes just randomly, my notification bar clock will have reset itself from Pacific Time, to Greenwich Mean Time. And depending on the time of day, (or night) the date gets whacked too.
Its weird because the settings are still checked the way they should be. Maybe someone knows a WY to fix this? I would sure be a happy S.O.B. if there is a way.
Thanks in advance.

So ever since I got my phone, I was wondering why my battery is lacking with my brothers s4 and then it just came to me.
It's the FACEBOOK APPS! I checked the app and it. Uses 40 Mb's which I surprising for me but then I uninstalled both the Facebook app and messenger and my battery the next day improved by a lot (minimum, for me, 45 on screen minutes added to the battery)! I noticed the difference . I'm just sharing this information if you guys have a battery issue like me and have Facebook installed.
Also if you really love Facebook, just use the browser version and make a shortcut and out it on your home screen!
Hope this helped!
P. S: Facebook (when it was installed) did not show up in my battery usage, so I have no idea why it was running in the background

You may wanna try my modded facebook version. it removes the location feature from it. Which is the biggest battery hog. It constantly updates your location in the background. Taking a huge toll on your battery from trying to acquire a GPS lock plus the services themselves running in the background. I am planning on making one that has an "exit" option to fully shut everything down.
Thanks! Can you link me to your Facebook app? It sounds much better than the original one

Should see very little difference! I used to use the website, then i got frustrated with some things, and grabbed the app. And noticed battery drain as you said. i also noticed my GPS lock icon kept coming up. Plus i hated how facebook ALWAYS put your location onto your status updates and messages. So i removed it Now i love the app.

Yeah, i used to have GPS turned off too. Thats why it doesn't kill your battery. I don't like not having GPS off though. cause when i go to use a GPS app, ie weather Google Maps etc its a pain to have to turn it back on.

Thats too much of a pain for me. In all honesty, facebook shouldnt even have an ongoing "tracking service" like it does. Its downright invasive. No wonder people can rape so easily, facebook, by default, is broadcasting their location every time the user posts a status.
But i have a weather app that gets my location ever hour and updates for weather alerts and such. So it would be very annoying if my GPS was off.
...
Unless you have location data turned off, you don't need GPS on for apps to aquire your location.
So, i love my note 3, so far. I rooted and installed Ds rom and l love it. Everything works perfectly, except for one thing my display is auto brightness itself!! I have auto brightness off, I have dynamic mode checked, and smart screen setting turn off.
Every time I start to play need of speed most wanted, it starts to auto bright itself!! :banghead:

Theres nothing you can do about it , its a feature in the kernel called brite and it happened on the S4 also. A dev is gonna have to make a kernel with it disabled. Its there so when the phone gets warm or hot it dims the screen automatically until phone cools back down and then full brightness comes back. There have been a couple threads on this already and i even took my first Note back and exchanged it and the second one does it too. Its software related hopefully samsung will release an update to take this feature out

Yeah i unchecked everything and anything that had to do with auto-brightness and it seems to happen less now. Its just annoying i think its also in there to help preserve battery life but i bought this phone for the big bright screen hopefully a DEV will fix it with a custom stock kernel

Yep it's normal. Nothing you can do except keep the temp under 90F. LOL I went crazy trying to figure it out myself. Once the temp gets over 90 for me, it starts auto dimming even with everything disabled for auto-screen brightness.
I have my phone setup something like this using zooper widgets:
https://i.imgur.com/3zKGS5K.png
Each icon is actually just an image with a link to open the app in the widget.
It has worked fine without problems for like, I dunno, 2 years i've had my phone and been using it like this?
But sometime in the past 3-4 months, the widgets have just started becoming unresponsive. I press an icon to launch an app and nothing happens.
I've tried re-creating every single app-link on each widget, I try restarting nova launcher, tweaking the nova launcher widget settings, nothing sems to work.
I can only restart my phone and then there's a 50/50 chance that they will work again as if nothing was wrong to begin with. But then an hour later, after doing nothing on my phone, they might just suddenly stop working again.
I'm at a loss to explain this, can anyone help? I just can't figure out why this is happening at all.

Nope.
And I made sure app-ops were default (disabled) for everything so it wasn't affecting zooper or anything, but no dice there either.
