This is awesome. We should be seeing a lot of ROM's popping up soon guys.
http://www.androidcentral.com/ice-cream-sandwich-source-code-now-being-pushed-git-servers
HC source was also released by the way. Maybe we could get some feature in HC on our existing phones.
You didn't see the other three threads pertaining to the release of the ICS source code?
Can't wait for this to start popping up on ROMs. Beautiful!
I'd be happy with an AOSP kernel.

I'm betting we'll see an experimental ROM by the weekend. Hopefully CM9 comes for us before Xmas.

How do you think this is possible? Cyanogen tweeted to check back in two months for CM9. We have no ICS source code for our device. The source code released is designed specifically to compile for use on the Galaxy Nexus, which is nothing like our device in terms of hardware. Please avoid making statements like this, as it only serves to ramp up unrealistic expectations, which is not good for either developers or users.
Apparently you have no idea what you're talking about. Do you honestly think a dev on XDA isn't going to get this up and running for our phones. Look what devs are able to do just with the SDK.
Also, look at the keyword in that sentence. It's not getting people's expectations up. I specifically said hopefully.

Unfortunately, I know significantly more about this issue than you do. None of the SDK ports are complete. Do your research. No developer will EVER claim that an SDK port is a viable daily driver. Also, please point me to where I said that it won't eventually be developed for the E4gT? At no point did I say that. My goal is to temper expectations, which you obviously don't care about. First you said "this weekend." Then you said hopefully CM9 by Christmas. You can say "hopefully" all you want, but Cyanogen himself has given a loose timeframe of 2 months.

I don't see trolling, I see responding. You may not like what he's saying, and I may not like the implications of it, but it appears to be a factual analysis of the situation intended to prevent people from getting overexcited. Look at the amount of entitled *****ing that people have been giving to the CM team over getting ANY version on our phones. People thinking that unrealistic goals are feasible helps raise that. I personally like your optimism, but I'm all for realism being injected into the discussion, too.
Guys, guys, guys. Sometimes its just more fun to raise your hopes; convince yourself there is something to look forward to in the near future. No need to rain on everyone's parade who are (as I am) not knowledgeable enough to know that our hopes may be too high.
Remember when you used to just want things and not have the ability to know whether or not you could get it? Childhood? Its not necessarily a bad thing.
odub303, they're only upset because you're the guy who tells them there is no Santa, then tells them there is no Easter Bunny. Then laughs at them for thinking they existed.

How do you figure? I started this tread to inform people what was released. I didn't get expectations up and I stated I'm willing to bet some dev is already at work on something.
There's always some dude on XDA who thinks he knows it all and wants to spill his 2 cents and bring a thread downhill.

just because we have source means nothing......
we will not get an ics rom any time soon and we are better off hoping cm9 will be available to our phone
if anything we will get a rom that has no 4g barely any data..camera wont work...just typical stuff
Well out of 60 devices I sure would hope ours would be supported...

I don't own this phone, but I'm considering it. I have not read through the forums at all. With that said, here's my question: Is anyone working on cyanogenmod 7 for this phone? If so, links? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it
I don't think CM7 will be available for this phone anytime. hopefully there well be a version of CM9 in a few months based off of ICS. I could be wrong though
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
It'll prob be a couple months, the ICS source code being available sooner than expected helps, and I believe one of the devs on the CM team just got an epic touch to work on, but these things take time. I'd say its gonna be a few months.

CM-AOSP-MIUI are all being worked on. Right now it seems ICS has all the attention, there is close to a 2k bounty for a stable ICS rom, ICS=AOSP=CM, there you have it

lol there's one in every crowd. The phone is an incredible piece of hardware, no doubt. If I had my choice though I would have gone with the International or ATT version. Not to downplay any of our dedicated and super talented devs but there are simply far more devs working on the other versions. More dev support means more toys and tweaks to play with.
I KILL YOU!!!!! sent from my fav puppet Achmed :-D lol sry i had too
but I did see a rather large post of a dev from CM getting the phone, I wouldn't expect anything till the new year, maybe by Christmas if lucky.

Treat him nicely! Nagging will only de-incentivize him to work on it. Just be content we haven't forgotten about the Tmo SGSII.
Brint Kriebel originally shared this post:
Since word seems to have spread: Regarding the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (T-989). Yes, I have one and yes, I will be trying to get a stable CM9 build running on it.
Fair warning that this can only be a spare time task for me right now and I have a lot of priority projects right now, so it likely won't be quick. If anyone out there would like to help, that is great - let me know. Otherwise, I will do what I can.
I will update on progress, but please continue to be patient.

Starting Off, I just wanted to thank everyone again for getting me the T989, I love this Phone & I love everyone at xda for it as well!!!
Now, I can't help but laugh because when I first got this device I seen a ton of posts *****ing about the Rom selection...
We now have:
ICS CM9 Alpha
ICS TW
GB TW
GB CM7
MIUI/CM7 GB ( Coming today )
The Dev, has really picked up as of lately on this device & I can't be more happier than I am now
This thread is mostly pointless, but still I wanted to say thanks to everyone again!
Thank you!!!
~Eugene
I must say, y'all need to thank your skyrocket brothers, for without them you would have nothing
Lock for being pointless.
JK! I must say development has picked up and I've seen much less flame fests and useless posts than I used to.
You have been a huge contributor and without your help we wouldn't have half those roms! Thank you!

Good stuff,
Eugene, you're welcome to hop on the wagon with the rest of the team for CM9. I know you have some stuff rattling around up in your head about some issues we have on our tracker
I'm gonna be mad at you if MIUI ruins my finals week.

without eugene, we would only have touchwiz roms.

Yeah the development is coming along nicely now. All the people who jumped ship for the nexus will be regretting it, very soon. This phone is the best phone I've had hands down, even the stock rom was quite usable. (Which in my experience, is rare.) I also love the fact that everyone is working together now, it's great, everybody wins.

If you look at his twitter and stuff he posts about how he was going to start building a CM Rom and all, so I don't think it was a hoax.
I think it was a hoax. If he was a serious Dev that could get aosp on our devices before other he would at least know to wait until he had a bootable build before he makes a thread.

To be fair, it is being worked on. The only problem is that it seems that three separate people from the CM are working on it separately. One person is working on 10.2 and another 11 and the third is 10.2 as well. I am not sure why they don't just figure it out together.

I haven't really followed CM all too closely on other devices. But to me it sounds like the build they have is very close to at least a nightly, or am I wrong?
If the approach they are taking is to get it close to stable and then release it, I have absolutely no problem waiting. I think basically what I really want is a confirmation that says, "Hey were committed to getting the ROM out there, were not going to just scrap it because we can't get a few kinks to work".
That's my main issue, CM is supposed to be a community (at least, it was originally, before the main people sold out), open effort but many community and CM devs like to keep everything private and not share until they do all the work. Then they rant about people demanding source saying basically if you can't port everything from scratch like they have you have nothing to contribute. That selfish attitude sucks, it's anti-community and ultimately hurts progress. Plus they're all being vague about status and timeframes. I understand having a busy schedule and being uncertain, but that's all the more reason to share what you have, not to make asking for status and timeframes taboo and wait months being fed table scraps of updates. Releasing the source can only help the community, not hurt it. Meanwhile the CM/AOSP devs for the i717 Note were excellent, always providing status updates, links to source, frequent builds, and plenty of support.

Either way as long as I can get some CM before the end of the year I'll be happy.
The way this is going down, I'll just stick with Tweaked. My Jump upgrade will be available and the Note 4 will be out by the time they get it stable and then the waiting game starts all over. LOL
