hope someone can help, been changing roms, sense and non sense for last 3 weeks and had no problems at all until yesterday. last 24 hours I have had reboots almost every 10 mins. actually it is ok for about 1 hour after flashing the rom and boot image which is about enough time to get it set up to my liking, then the rebooting starts. I have flashed the boot image from each rom correctly in fastboot and erased cache before and after flashing boot. flashed roms in recovery after doing a wipe and all have worked perfectly first time. the problems started 1 hour after flashing the latest slimbean, I wiped and flashed latest cm10.1 nightly this morning with same results after 1 hour. hopefulley ther are attacments for the last_kmsg and logcat below, if I've done it right :fingers-crossed:
had to split txt file in 2, it was too big

Have you tried to not "set it up to your liking"?
Maybe there is a bug with an app installed?
Did you tried other Roms?
Does the problem only happen when then screen is off?
Maybe also try an other scaling governor?!
By setting up to my liking I just meant the settings of the Roms before any apps are installed, and yes I have tried about nine different Roms. Late last night I discovered something interesting, when I started flashing Roms, about 3 weeks ago I intended to try a few and settle with the one I liked most, I tried them in this order :- cm10.1, pa3, Slimbean, icecoldjelly, miui and viperx 3.5 and 3.6. All of these went without any problems and I decided I liked Slimbean the best so reflashed that. That is when the reboots started, I then put cm10 back on and miui but still reboots. Then last night I flashed viperx 3.6 and not one single reboot! I noticed when viper was flashing, via aroma, a line popped up saying " formatting EXT4 ". Now if you look at the known CM10.1 issues below the installation instructions for cm10.1 nightlies, it states you must be formatted VFAT(HTC standard) as it does not support EXT4. This whole problem started after going from viperx back to slim and cm10.1. So is this possibly something to do with the EXT4 formatting of viperx ? and if so can I re-format to vfat ?. After searching I can only find reference to formatting fat32. are fat32 and vfat one and the same thing ?.

Sorted, I think
decided to flash CWM 5840 touch, formatted and wiped everything, using every option available, copied over slim rom 4.2, flashed boot, flashed rom and gapps and I've had it working for 2 hours now without any reboots. so keeping fingers and everything crossed , including my grannys knickers, for the rest of the day, cya peeps

Hello everyone. I'm pretty new to rooting and flashing ROMs and everything. I was playing with my buddy's rooted Incredible (CM 6.0.1) and I was amazed. I just recently rooted my Incredible and flashed a couple different versions of CM with the same outcome. My phone freezes and then reboots randomly after a couple minutes of it being on. I've tried wiping and restoring factory settings, wiping the cache and wiping calvik. I also tried clearing the storage and then flashing the ROM with no luck. Is it possible that CM just doesn't work with my Incredible or is there any possible way to fix the constant reboots? I apologize in advance if this has been covered already. Thanks!
Yes, I had the exact same problems. Impressed with the features, but disappointed with stability. I switched for now to VirtuousROM and have been happy. Also, check forum.cyanogenmod.com. Several people facing the same problem.
Is it just by chance that it's so unstable? My buddy has been running CM 6.0.1 for awhile now with no reboots at all. In any case, thanks for the info. I'll give the cyanogenmod forms a try.
If I recall, CM 6.0.1 had a default overclock of 1.15 which some phones can't handle. But CM 6.0.2 restored default setting to 998 (stock), which should solve the problem!
I tried both CM 6.0.1 and CM 6.0.2 and both had the same results. They both of them did the freeze and reboots over and over again.
I've had great luck with CM nightly builds starting from 9/6 which was released after 6.0.2. I'm currently running the 9/8 nightly. If you decide to try a nightly, do a full wipe first.
Don't feel alone I have struggled with cm as well. Im using. 92 hboot 2.15 radio and still get splash freeze and reboot upon install. I have wiped: data, cache& dalvik...still no success. Any help.would be great. I've tried almost all nightlys rc3 6.0 6 6.1 6.2.

Do I need the sd-ext partition to run CM? When I go to wipe everything it always returns with the message "sd-ext partition does not exist" but it still wipes everything else. If so, how do I go about creating that partition? Thanks for all the help.

You don't need the sd-ext partition. I would download set-cpu, you can find it free on xda, and make sure that it is not overclocking for you.
I purchased set cpu....how would I tell if my cpu is over clocked?
mine is set to 998 max 245 min....still cant install cm6
Has any one found the same install issues as myself.....Ive been trying for at least a month to two months to get cm6. Just tried again tonight got the nightly to work once ...i rebooted and gota stupid bootloop. I tried to install again and just a bootloop this time. Please help!
Everything has been fine until yesterday morning, when at work I realised my phone was rebooting every 3 or 4 minutes.
I hadn't changed anything, I hadn't flashed anything, I don't O/C my phone. I'm usins AOKP Milestone 3 with Immoysen Kernel.
I've tried -
Reflashing AOKP with no custom kernel
Wipe & flashing CM9 Kang
Wipe & flashing MCR
When I tried to make a Nandroid of MCR (as it seemed to be okay for an hour or so) it gave an error when it got to backing up the data partition. Could their be a corrupt bit of memory there?
Also, at one point I think it might have reset while in recovery, which makes me think it's hardware, not software.
Today I've tried -
locking and unlocking the bootloader
Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_Lite
Wipe and flash AOKP B23
Generally it seems to be better after a wipe and a fresh install, for a little while, but then seems to start rebooting again later.
I locked and unlocked again around an hour and a half ago and all seems good at the moment, but I thought I'd post still to see if anyone else has had this happen or see if anyone has ideas of how to de-bug it should it come back?
I had this problem after upgraded to 4.0.2. Fresh install did solved this somehow but last week it came back again when dial starts...
Tho it seems un-checked all options in location services would not reboot during or after the call
Hope this info could help u
Thanks. Well, 6 hours since I locked the bootloader and unlocked it again (to wipe everything, including the SD storage) and it's not rebooted once. Looks like it's fixed *touch wood*
I have random turn offs... dunno if it relates. Its a little unnerving...and annoying. No roots, no unlocks, just vanilla 4.0.2.

**** Note, this thread is not pointing fingers at ROM Devs *****
So starting back when porting of ICS from skyrocket was done I never had any random reboots or crashes fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when sudden and many freezes, lock ups and random reboots started. I first started seeing it on darkside v3 and it continued to darkside v6 during which time I decided to bounce to AOKP which gave me the same results.
Things I have tested are:
[1] Different ROMs (all based on 4.0.3)
[2] 3 different SDCards, all brand new
[3] Running different radios
[4] No apps installed, basic default setup after ROM flashed with and without add-on launchers. Tested using TW, Nova and Apex.
[5] Formatted sdcard and internal storage
[6] New battery - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Wednesday
[7] New bluetooth - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Tuesday (Not sure if it would help but it was a good excuse to tell the wife)
[8] Flashed multiple times using CWM (non-touch) and TWRP
Anytime a ROM is flashed I always superwipe and on a few occasions I have manually select clear/format section via CWM. My flashing steps are perfect and followed to a T per AOKP and Darkside. Ive always flashed 100% battery charge and anytime I try to logcat I'm unable to get a log due to the random reboot because it won't save the log.
Once the new battery gets here and that doesn't work I'm completely lost with what else I can try. Does anyone who has experience and knows the file system of 4.0.3 > 4.0.4 know if something has been changed that may help or does anyone have any other method for me to find the issue at hand? Also keep in mind running darkside GB based on 2.3.6 is stable as hell.
Your assistance is much appreciated.
I had freezes and reboot when I went from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
then I just started from fresh. I Odin 'd to stock, and I started fresh with apparently and data. Didn't use titanium backup.. have not had a freeze or reboot since. I really think most users issues are because they are restoring old data.
Edit. After re-reading your thread I see that you never flashed a 4.0.4 rom. I really don't know why u are having issues.. your method of flashing looks really sound

Oh to add to that I have never restored apps with data or apps. I always go to the play store and reinstall fresh.
How old is your phone? I've only had mine since Mar and I've flashed plenty, restored apps with data, and no reboots or freezes.

Maybe 4-5 months old.
well if you wiped all that and you still getting random lags and you re flashed your CWM
just make sure you download count hasnt moved you know when your in download mode
cause it might be hardware and try
darkside v7
and AOKP B40
if its not the software then its the hardware
you could always try odin and start fresh that always seems to work on mine
Odin or cwm 5.0.2.7

I odin and started fresh and ran ICS stock for 3 days with no crashes or issues. I then rooted and flashed new ICS Rom and have not had any issues for the past 48 hours. Everything doing great. Something must have been stuck between all the upgrade/flashes that were causing the crashes.
Eugene fixed the reboots on AOKP, as far as AOKP, it was ROM related.

Yeah I read that earlier on twitter and although there was reboot issues my phone was just tripping. After odin to stock and starting fresh I have no issues with darkside however I might grab the latest AOKP with Eugene kernel. I hear good things.

The battery life is awesome, though probably not as good as Darkside.
Just be sure to flash the one from the link I provided. That one has the fixed kernel and ROM

My stock phone was just fine and then.. Crashing, freezing, random rebooting, call echo, missed calls and missed text. My phone was possessed by some android demon after upgrading to 4.0 from Samsung via Kies. A google search took me to XDA. I'm a noob and all but I read every post and I watched all your YouTube videos (thank you ScreamingSkulls, that helped a lot). TDJ posted the DARKSIDE v4 rom while i was reading his thread so I flashed my first custom rom. No major problems, the camera froze when I first opened it but I killed it and it worked fine after that (I later read that others had that happen too). I flashed the v5 rom then v7.. I did have an issue when I flashed the VENOM 03 #3 kernel. After I flashed it stuck for a long time on the S logo (animating). I got it to reboot successfully so I flashed it again just be sure and it worked. I also flashed the VENOM 03 #5 kernel yesterday and everything is running smooth.
My phone was running for about 52 hours before my doubletwist app started changing songs by itself and freezing lol, this isn't the first time it's happened, I've even done a clean install from odin, funny thing is, with GB could run my phone for almost 5 days or more straight if I let it with no issues, but ICS seems a bit more laggy, I think I'll wait for the dev's to whip up some extra mean stuff until there is an official repair for it.
Nice thread. Id been reading about that reboots. I can tell you im on jaminson' s rom and no problem here about that or apps fcs. Smooth and stable. Is nice to read that you fix it

I had hellish problems with ics, echo randomly in speaker, headset, even bluetooth, on wifi and not. App crashes, camera hosing, reboots, major scroll lag, touch lag, i ended going back to ginger a few times.
What i found out is to NOT RESTORE OR TOUCH ANYTHING! I have always run tdj's roms since he started putting them out but used titanium back to restore nonsystem apps, used rom tool box to tweak a few minor things.
I am running darkside evolution with v5 of ds kernel, i did not restore anything with tb didnt tweak any thing os just settings wise. Only loaded bare min apps i need. I do highly recommend nova launcher, its nice and fast and better on battery.
Just loading the ROM fresh and nova only issues are a few echo calls but very minimal. Performance and battery life are insane, I'm currently 15hr at 65% battery on light to moderate use, incredible. Otherwise runs perfectly great. Probably apps are just not totally ics compatible not sure.

Hey there
I have been having weird problems with ARHD 17 and 17.1. About a week ago I looked at my device and realized there was no signal, so I went into Settings and saw that Wi-Fi said "Error" under it. I tried doing a hard reboot but the same thing continued. Then I decided I'd reflash the latest Nandroid backup I took but the same problem continued. I then wiped the device completely, flashed that ARHD boot.img, installed the ROM from CWM, and then rebooted the phone but the SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. It was really frustrating so I decided to try a different custom ROM and everything worked fine from then on.
I then tried installing ARHD again (after taking a Nandroid backup of my current ROM, of course) two days ago and the same problem happened. It's really frustrating and I don't know what else I could do.
Right now I am downloading ARHD 18 because I just love that ROM and I am hoping it won't have this issue.
My device is S-ON, international version (.401), 1.31 HBOOT (latest), and is GSM.
Any ideas?
Well, I thought I should update this just in case anyone faces the same problem in the future and uses the search feature.
I ended up doing a factory reset (which did not wipe my virtual SD partition, for some reason), flashed ARHD's boot.img, installed ARHD 18 and chose Improve EXT_4 performance and also Wipe Data and it worked!
For some reason, though, the installation percentage doesn't increase from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3 and stuff, but it remains as 0 and then it suddenly becomes a 100%; however, the process itself was fine since it extracted, copied, and installed files.

I had the exact same problem 2 days ago - wifi error and also data off as "service not available". i had given up on ARHD, but will now try your method again, although I'm pretty sure I did tick the ext4 enhancement and data wipe.
Try factory resetting from within your current OS first, though. That's one thing I hadn't done in the past.
Hey guys, its my first post on here and I was hoping to get some help with my device. (Yes, I've searched extensively over the internets. No, I can't find anything related to this issue for the One X)
So let me start from scratch. About a month or so ago, my phone started rebooting randomly, I have been using ViperX 2.7.1 by Team Venom since day one of getting my phone and only started experiencing these issues after upgrading my hboot to 1.31, switching to MaXimus and returning back to ViperX. If it was the occasional reboot, I wouldn't be half as annoyed as I am this very moment. Unfortunately, my phone does not ring when I get a call. Does not ring, screen doesn't even turn on, does not notify, nothing. I called it from another number, did not ring, tried turning the screen on, did not turn on, just rebooted. This does not happen all the time, but has been happening a lot recently. So far, I have fresh installed ViperX numerous times, (wiped cache, factory reset, wiped dalvik cache and full wiped from the ViperX aroma installer) thought maybe an app was misbehaving so fresh installed from the play store instead of Titanium Backup. Even tried switching ROMS but I can't for some reason. Tried installing CM10 the other day, didn't go past the white screen. The good people on androidforums.com told me that I need a different boot.img for newer hboots so I got that, but the CM ring at startup freezes followed by a reboot. Switched to ViperX 3.2 (JB) couple days back hoping this issue wouldn't follow me here as well, but alas, it still has. Then yesterday, I thought upgrading my hboot and wiping my phone the way up'ing the firmware does might fix it, so I up'ed my hboot to 1.39. (strangely though, I still have my files on my sdcard) I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 Only step I couldn't follow was the adb reboot oem-78, I got some strange error (did not happen when I up'ed to 1.31) After getting 1.39, I flashed ViperX 3.2 again but I still have this error.
I'm completely out of ideas and am really close to giving up and selling my phone. Any help/advice on what I could do would be greatly appreciated!

Woah, no way. Is that it? It worked perfectly fine before I up'ed my hboot to 1.31 (always used the AOSP lockscreen). Have you encountered a similar issue? I'm trying this out now, will keep you posted.
