Formatting micro sdcard to FAT32: - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just wanted some advice on formating my card to FAT32. My card is 32gb, about 22gb is being used. To format my card (which I assume will wipe it clean), what's the best way (and quickest) to transfer all of its current data to another location before formatting? And what do you recommend using (application) to format it?

I use guiformat.exe but backup before doing so

allocation unit size, change that to 32768? and do I uncheck "quick format"?

I don't know about the quickest, but basically, you can connect the GN2 to your computer and just copy and paste the material to a folder, say on the desktop. It will take a few hours to complete. I would suggest doing it when you go to bed.
To format, you may be able to do it in Windows 7. I don't know if Windows still has the max format armount of 16GBs. If so, just download and butn the ISO for Ubuntu. Run the live CD. You can format the SD to FAT32.
On a side note, remember, on FAT32, the maximum file size it can use is 4GB.

Use Sdformatter … Copy your files to another location first

Correct

Why is everyone suggesting a 3rd party app? Windows does this as well as the phone itself.

Even moreso, shouldn't the card already come FAT32 formatted?

I believe mine was FAT only from factory.

That's highly highly unlikely that a 32GB card comes FAT(16) from the factory nowadays. If it did, then shame on the brand.

Problems with sd card

Have no idea what the problem is, I copy files on to it while the card is in my computer, put the SD card back in the phone and nothing is there. I've formatted probably about 5-6 times now. Could I have a corrupt file on the card that could be causing the problem? Can I format the card and start the phone with a blank card? Thanks to anyone that can help.

I got a new 16GB card a while back, and formatted it, then restored by SD card backup to it. I then put the card in my phone, and everything was gone. At that point, I had the phone format it, then re-added things by just drag and drop, no issues.
So, I'm back to having an issue again. Everything I put on is still there, but I can't transfer anything from my computer. The files appear to transfer through windows explorer but aren't there after disconnecting from the computer.

Some of the newer SD cards have a physical write-protect toggle on them, similar to old diskettes or cassettes.
Read elsewhere that once write protect spot located on the SD, someone put a piece of tape over the toggle tab, and it worked.
Assuming the same r/w tab is in the correct position on the SD card USB 'holder' when it's in the PC.
Longshot, but a possibility.

No tab on mine. Now I'm able to copy files through the wifi file explorer app but copying while connected by cable doesn't work. It does, but the files aren't there afterwards. I also get the sd card is mounted read only error every once in a while. I'm not sure what to do, I hate to drop 50 bucks on another sd card if I don't need to.

[Q] Help with Link2sd please.

So i created the second partition on my SD card using minitool partition on my PC, but when i try to set the link location in the app it says either device is busy or sdext2 doesn't exist.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Not sure if its relivant but what sd card do you have? Brand, size and class?
I got a SanDisk 32gb class 4 with ex2 and fat32 and mine works fine....
Did you read any instructions on this as well?
Its a sandisk 16gb class 4. Minitool said the original and new partition are fat32, but my only other option was ntfs. Should I recreate it using ntfs instead?

No, NTFS is not supported. What do you mean it was your only other option? Were the ext file systems not showing up as possibilities? Also, how sure are you of the microSD card's legitimacy?
When i was choosing my file system in minitool I could only choose ntfs or fat32. But when i browse using root explorer its in my data folder as data/sdext2. But link2sd doesn't recognize it to link to.
And legitimacy is 100% because I bought it at radio shack

Well its working now. Not sure what happened. Maybe it auto mounted the ext2 the first time, and so when i tried to mount it using link2sd it was giving me an error? Either way, this app is awesome lol.
Thanks for trying to help me out. I appreciate it.

Strange, if I am understanding you right; the 2nd partition was mounted as sdext2 yet link2sd never recognized it...weird

No problem, glad to hear it worked out. It was probably something simple like maybe link2sd not initially asking you for info on the 2nd partition. Regardless, ya, link2sd is amazing. Early on I was always confused between App2SD and Link2SD; the I figured it all out. It's almost pointless to use anything BUT Link2SD. It makes life so much easier, especially with our severely limited internal space on the Xperia Play.

I got 1 more question regarding this app. I have a 16 gig memory card but I'm buying a 32 gig memory card and obviously want to transfer all my data over. Where do I find and how do I transfer all the linked data? I can't seem to access it when I'm viewing my memory card.

[Q] I can not write to SD card

So i bought a 16 gb class 4 SD card for my galaxy s3. My old 4 gb SD card that I replaced worked great with no fail. This new card however, sometime unmount and remount. Sometime it lets me write to it other time I can only read what I already have on there from it. This is a problem because when I set the sd card as all my media defaults sometime message comes up saying it failed to write to sd card so it changed back to phone memory.....
Anyone know if this is a bad card or if there is anyway I can set things up to make the card work. Thanks ! I have 15 days to replace it.
edit- I tried to look for other related sd issue, but it seems to only be talking about rooted phones. I dont have root and this is my first android so I'm not comfortable going the rooting route just yet.

Which do you recommend. Exfat/ fat32 or Ntfs??
I've also had this issue but my fone is rooted. I've had to reformat it at least once a week. I will go to save music or a picture to it and it will say the ext sd card isn't accessible and when I go check it with root explorer instead of folder titled music It will be £usic or something crazy. Then the card will start switching to r/o instead of r/w.
Edit: it meaning the external sd card.

If you still have problems try fat32.

You could use:

On Windows. There might be an easier way but I'm not aware of it

So I've used this to resize the 10Gb and use the unallocated space. All was well, formatted to fat32 as per usual. Now windows won't pick it up, and the program classifies it as a bad disc This is worse then before because I can't even use it What do I do now?

Unfortunately the card no longer shows in windows or any other SD card tool but the partition one and I can't do anything in that anymore as the options are all blanked out as its a bad disk

[Q] Perseus Kernel

I use jedi rom and love that it has boot logo changing option. While saber doesn't work with my sd (that's why I don't use it) it had the option that I want from perseus. Is there any way I can make it so it changes the boot logo or does the developer even have that option for the kernel. Please let me know if I have a way to do it or have to wait for the developer to add the feature?

Torrented movies and season of shows. Also do you know of any specific way to format it that is safe? I've looked around but the answer is always different. I just want a simple process.

you could always transcode the movies to mp4 which would make a smaller file..
Is it really that important to watch hd movies on a 5 inch screen?
I guess you have to decide what is more important; the ability to use the card to flash and use any rom properly, or watching a movie on a phone..I guess you have to choose, or, be stuck using only certain rom/kernel combinations
Easiest way to format is either on your phone, or on your home pc, or your camera if it uses a sd card
