[APP] Wifi Band Switcher - Switch between 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz (ROOT required)

Ever since Samsung updated their initial LE8 ROM, I've lost the ability to specify which Wifi band I want my phone to use. Why would I want that? Well, because if I don't manually specify 5.0 GHz at work, the connection keeps dropping forever.
Anyways, I've flashed back the older rom, reverse engineered some of sammy's removed code from that advanced wifi menu and realized that they're really only using some standard AOSP hidden APIs. So I've created an app that uses these same hidden APIs. For this app to work however, it HAS TO RUN AS A SYSTEM APP! (i.e. apk file loaded in /system/app/ ) So basically you'll need a hacked recovery (clockworkmod) and you'll need to flash the attached file. It needs to run as a system app because it is modifying what android considers "secure" android settings. And normal apk privileges aren't sufficient to change those. There is probably a cleaner way to do this but I was too lazy to dig deeper into the function all the way up to the kernel wifi driver.
Sideloading the APK won't work!
After rebooting, you'll see a new app in your apps drawer, the app is very simple really:

I've tested it on ICS and JB, seems to do the job ! Now I can finally use these JB roms at work.

Has anyone else tried this? I'm surprised there aren't more replies in this thread considering this is the only app I know of that does this. Anyway, i'm about to give it a shot & see how it goes.. Won't be able to test it out until tonight as we only have 2.4GHz here at work.

Just extract apk and using root explorer paste in system/app set permissions .rw-r--r-- .. done no need to reboot or flash

Just wanted to add that this worked for me as well...thanks so much! I work for a company that stricly does wifi distribution in publice venues and we're working on iHeartRadio right now and during some downtime i ran the OTA and couldn't get to any of my 5Ghz AP's. Lifesaver!

This may sound stupid, but how do I delete this app? Can't uninstall from app drawer or from home screen using go launcher. I didn't see any files labored as wifi switcher in the "my files" app to delete from there
I'm just not sure since this is flashed thru cwm if its just a simple delete from my files or if there's another way

Did that using astro file and rebooted the phone, apk is still listed in the app drawer and in system/app folder as well. Did I do something wrong?

Is there any way to theme SwiftKey? The themes are getting kinda stale. Would like a nice sense 5ish theme with no lines. Or a jet black one.

Nope. People have been asking SK for theming capabilities since it first came out, and they haven't seem interested in adding it.
I just stick with the holo theme. It does get boring, but the keyboard works so well that I can't complain too much.

It's possible, I may take a stab at it.

Problem is, there is a ton of images involved with this theme and they are mostly dot 9s

I made an attempt to theme it by flashing. It broke it, everything was right on my end. I even converted it to a system app. I then tried the new Swype that is on the market. It busted the license and killed the app

after flashing this all i had was black after the "Samsung" boot logo, i restarted three times to make sure and left it alone for 5 mins to see if it'll boot. Maybe it was due to my error but i tried twice... I used TWRP 2.5 and was on UVDMD5

I just tried this out and phone went into a bootloop. I will redownload and test again. I get back with results.

I would expect the t-mobile voicemail to work from the dialer since this is a t-mobile rom... unsure about the 1+ issue...

The plus one is not an issue. This rom is the latest OTA for tmo sg3.

This isnt even the rom thread, not sure what you are all talking about, maybe more coffee is needed for all of us.

I'm not at all sure what you are talking about, I just went & enabled Halo in settings & nothing popped up asking to download & nothing about a zip. I also opened the halo app in the app drawer. So......not knowing, I hesitate to respond

Yeah, I just got that same thing when I opened the app for a second time. I just hit Ok & it went away, I mean, I'm not going to be on a rom that I already chose & then have an app suggest to me another rom, lol. That app probably made by pa team. Anyway, hit either one, ok or install pa. Your choice. I don't use that app at all anyway. I don't even use halo, nice feature but....

Hitting okay should get rid of it. Halo is originally a PA app.. I don't use Halo either, but I have tested that and it should be fine....

The pic really does me no justice. On my phone the GPS icon blinks continuously and the NAv icon is greyed out. I'm just jus sharing what i experienced. Great ROM it has everything I need with the exception of GPS(on my phone). I rely heavy on it for my line of work.

You can't flash other ROM slots yet.

Thank you for this ! Hoping someone would put all of this together. I did all of these except quick settings , but took a little bit of time that's for sure. Thank you again !

Your welcome, that was my point of posting this. I made the ROM to save time with installing the mods and figured I would share it with XDA. I hope it works well for everyone.

I also found the s5 browser and it works , but settings fc on it had you played with it at all ?

I had to download on laptop in order to see the captcha.
When you swipe to the very first page and then swipe once more to the left, what application is it trying to open that causes a message saying "application not installed"

It worked fine on Chrome and on the PC.

Cool, I was going to ask but was busy.

I see a download booster icon, does it actually work on the note 3?

Downloaded and running good. Quick question , how come on the leak and Baja I had 4G LTE icon . On this , rom just a 4g icon ? No biggie, assuming same just custom icon change ?

Only issue I suddenly noticed is I lost my ability to chrome cast movies on real player to my tv. Worked on stock, Baja, and did again after flashing backup. I have chrome cast installed but the screen mirror icon isn't there on this rom for some reason .
