[Q] Tools & Cleaners - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
What applications do you use to clean your phone?
I use:
1.) SD Maid Tool
2.) 1Tap Cleaner
What do you suggest?

I dont use any, are they even necessary? :S

Not necessary at all, but useful. I use sd maid too, easy way to spot the biggest files and clean app storage when you're running low on space.

Exactly those two! I didn't find any better (yet). Had no problems with SD Maid whatsoever.
I also use Titanium backup to cleanup the Dalvik cache from time to time - sometimes uninstalled apps remain in Dalvik cache and TB can remove them. Also, completely erasing Dalvik cache once in a while can't hurt either (it'll be rebuilt on reboot)...

However, let me add that I find ram cleaners completely pointless. With our phones, it's like replacing a truck's gastank with a tiny bottle.

I use nothing. I factory reset and format sd on every rom installation though.

Apps on SD Card suddenly Disappear **Please Help**

Hi all,
I've search the other posts similar to my issue but haven't found the answer.
Recently, I moved apps to SD card in MIUI using the move to SD card function from with Programs (not apps 2 sd).
I rebooted into recovery to flash a hotfix for the ROM, wiped cache, dalvik and ran caulkin clear temp.
Upon rebooting, apps on CD card are not accesable (error launching activity) as well when I look at the apps in programs, I get a screenshot with com.program name etc (very similar to this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/YSfEl.png
I tried fixing permissions via terminal but i get this error (for apps on SD):
/mnt/asec/com.realarcade.CL4-1/pkg.apk does not exist (103 of 143). Reinstall...
/mnt/asec/com.amazon.mShop.android-1/pkg.apk does not exist (104 of 143). Reinstall...
/mnt/asec/com.dragonplay.blackjack-2/pkg.apk does not exist (105 of 143). Reinstall...
/mnt/asec/com.poynt.android-1/pkg.apk does not exist (106 of 143). Reinstall...
/mnt/asec/dk.logisoft.aircontrol-1/pkg.apk does not exist (107 of 143). Reinstall...
The only fix I have found was to uninstall and reinstall all apps on SD.
I've had to do this twice in the past week and would like to avoid this!!!
I did find in one of the other posts the mention that I should be backing up the SD-ext (amon ra). IF I got this error again, could i simply restore that backup (only the sd-ext)?
Thanks again, I really am stuck on this one.
Since you're using the built in Android method of moving apps, you're not using the ext partition (if you even have one). Instead you can backup .android_secure, but I've never had a need to move apps so I'm not really familiar with it.
I'm thinking it might be the clear temp zip that's doing it. You should be able to open it up & see if it's wiping .android_secure. If so, you can either not use it or try backing up & restoring afterwards.

you need to clear at /system, not cache or data
try using titanium backup or root explorer and remove an unusedcsound or app
But i've got like 124 mb left on internal memory, and it is first time i get message like this from cf. Or do i really need to clear from /system a unused app ?

your phone has different partitons.
like on pc, younhave different disk drives.
well its a bit different..
but a disk is called system
another data, here are your apps
another cache, caches for apps
the 100mb is only for data, so data may be empty, system may be full...
you need to clean /system
I deleted dualclock with titan backup, and uninstalled cf3d driver thank you!!! I didn't know there are different partitions, only / and sdcard but thanks again!

Low system memory bug

Hi,
The problem is, that I cant install apps that are over 6mb. Sometimes updates just remove apps from my phone, just saying "not enough space". The best part is, that I have ~130MB on /system, and 1,5GB on /sdcard! It happens both on stock-based roms and FXP 133 (CM9). I just have no clue what to do.
Wiped dalvik cache, cache, formatted data and system, it just happens no matter what. After moving all apps to SD problem persists. What am I missing?
Xperia arc, FXP 133 anzu, with included kernel
Forgot to add: It's a fresh installation. Sometimes larger applications install properly. I had problems with Titanium Backup and Sygic.
Not sure but if you're moving apps etc. to your SD card you might need to clear up space or buy another SD card (i recommend 12 -16gb SD card)
If its stored in internal memory you might need to do the same and clear up space
Have you tried using another sd card just to make sure whether the problem is with your existing sd card or device?

It has nothing to do with sd-card, can u both read? Should I provide logcat?
EDIT: Sorry, I meant nothing offensive, I'm just too direct sometimes.
What else is there left to wipe, when /system, /data, /cache and dalvik cache has been purged? Apps simply download, install and then Google play gives notification about lack of disk space. It happens even, when I install apk's using ES File Explorer. Why can I install games larger than 15MB (no sd data, so it lands entirely in phone memory), and can't install 6MB Sygic? APK file is NOT corrupted, it works on my other phone. Market version is no good as well...
Same problem with me too, i tried to install Google Now (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818189) and it refuses to copy the files in the /system with the error "Not enough memory".
It was fine till i used Pureness ROM, but now i am on Jelly Sandwich.
When you install an app, there is two files, the apk and the corresponding odex file (same name than the apk, suffix is '.odex'). Sometime, when you play with restore, moving apps in system, odex them or changing rom without cleanup, the ".odex" file remains. Search for corresponding odex file in /system/app or /data/app and delete it.
When you save apps to internal they go into data/app not system /apps
check what space you have if needed save some gspps from internal to system by using app called links2sd free from play store.
Try cleaning the dalvik cache this is not the same as deleting the mentioned app can do this.
titanium backup can help with moving to system and cleaning to dalvik.
Also look in vendor/app there may be some issues there.

vendor/app holds one small file, it has sth to do with ringtones, so it's not that.
Before switching roms I always make a proper cleanup.
There is sth interesting about system app manager though, it shows that "19..." of internal storage is used and "183 MB" is free. Why are there three dots instead of MB, and why is it just 19? It looks like the dots replaced sth that doesn't fit inside of the text field (190MB?).
Why does it happen after cleaning everything, on fresh, "Out-of-the-Box" rom? I could understand it on Ice Bean (it started on that rom), it was 200mb+ stock-based rom, but FXP is just ~130mb! There should be plenty of space for app data.
EDIT: Wow, thats even more odd, I've just managed to install all the apps I couldn't! Like the problem was never there. It's weird and I still want to know what the hell was that, and make sure it won't happen again, as I have no time for X Files kind of things.
Thanks for feedback, so far.

Full wipe and still no space..

So I've been using paranoid android for a while and I've been wanting to go to Slim Bean rom for a while. So i flashed everything correctly blah blah performed full wipe etc. Directly after the full wipe and flashing it says i have 866 MB available.. How is that possible? I just performed a full wipe, every piece of data is gone.. No apps, music, pics, or cached data and have not even a single GB of data available?
Before switching ROMS i deleted all of my themeing data - custom lockscreen and wallpaper data and widgets. They take up a ton of space. But none of that is on my phone anymore.. Why the hell am I only being granted that tiny amount of space?
Just so we're on the same page, where does it say 866mb and what all was wiped in by our full wipe?
It says 866 MB on the storage setting in settings menu and on the internal storage menu on my computer - when i plug the phone in
I would check your nandroid backups as well as your ''0'', see if there are copies of it.
You wiped your internal SD card from recovery? Or did you just wipe data?

In order to completely wipe the device, you need to wipe the sd card from recovery, or with a file manager.
Try this:
1. Download your favorite root file manager (My favorite is Root Browser Lite)
2. Check to see if your /sdcard folder is empty alternatively you can go to /data/media/0 to check this
3. If it is try navigating to /data/media/legacy/ this will be all of your stored files from before flashing to 4.2
Before deleting make sure you aren't deleting your clockwork folder or TWRP folder because that is likely where any nandroid backups would be located
If I have helped slap that thanks button please.

Ok, so I deleted a few things from my 0 file because it had duplicates of existing files in it. I gained about 1 gb of extra space from that, thanks.
But now when I go redownload an app that I once had ( i.e widget locker ) it says unknown error code during application install : -24
I was searching and I think i may have deleted the widget locker that was located in my "0" folder. Is there a way around this? Can i make a new folder titled Widget Locker or something?
Try format data.

Damaged CM11 and limited ability to access my backups

I ran in quite a bad trouble on my Nexus 7.
I a using bruce2728's version of CM11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545628 ) which is from my point of view the best around.
Last version got pretty nasty fc when using ART (which is my daily driver). This happens. I rebooted in Recovery (TWRP) and tryied flashing my previous ROM over. Unfortunately I ended up with a screwed up CM11. Notifications don't show up, neither does the top menu with parameters, etc... The home button is not working either. I can boot. I can launch applications (Most of which are ok). #g Network doesn't work anymore either, but Wifi does.
I obviously wiped cache & dalvick, also wiped system just in case. No improvement.
So... I thought to go for a factory reset. However as far as I understand if I do that in TWRP, I will lose my data. Which I don't want...I back up everything with Titanium backup on a regular basis. But I am now in a situation where I cannot access my internal SD card from my PC. Whenever I connect the Nexus to the PC, I can see the device but when I click on it I can't see any data. I tried disabling re-enabling MTP, tried disable-enabling USB debug, wiped all drivers from my PC and then reinstalled... Never works. The Nexus shows up, but always an empty folder.
It's extremely frustrating. The ROM half works (at least enough to access my data) but I just can't move them out
I am left with the possibility to upload my data to Gdrive or DropBox but it will take weeks to upload and then redownload (I am on a slow Wifi)
Is there anyway I can wipe the system data without touching my Internal SD Card? I guess that would be the right solution, then reinstall the ROM. I also thought about backing up with TWRP, but given the size of what is being backed up it very much looks like I am backing up my System data and not my internal SD card.
Aaah it's so frustrating not to have any external SD... Was so simple to fix on my Samsung
Do you have all your data backed up to sd?
Factory reset will wipe only /cache and /data NOT /sdcard with titanium backups

Only the system data and a few stuff. Pics, etc are on my SD card. Don't wanna lose them.
But do you mean my /sdcard is protected from factory reset? I am on TWRP I thought factory reset also takes away the sdcard

You can just select advanced wipe and choose system, dalvik cache, cache and thats all.then just reinstall your current rom and you shouldnt lose any of your sdcard files
