I know you guys are saying that maybe T-Mobile is waiting for 4.2 update and not 4.1.2 reality is that we dont know. Well Sprint just released another 4.1.2 update with premium suits MD4 to be exact. When the S4 is recently out for Sprint they release this update. One thing I though that US variants will never see an official premium suit update. I though it was meant for quad-core or Exynos. Anyways I have noticed that T-Mobile been pushing updates for our S3 every 2 months. Last update was in January and now is May thats 4 months in compare to the past of 2 months.
I know this is another thread about that. But we may soon see another OTA or who knows we may have to wait more months. Anyways I attached a picture so you can see what im talking about.
Android version 4.0.4 T999UVLG1/T999UVLEM 6/21/12
Android version 4.0.4 T999UVLH2 8/16/12
Android version 4.0.4 T999UVLJ4 10/17/12
Android version 4.1.1 T999UVDLJA 11/14/12
Android version 4.1.1 T999UVDLJC 1/31/13
I doubt T-Mobile will waste an update to 4.1.2 - they will probably release 4.2.2

Do you think is a waste? I mean there is no difference in releasing 4.1.2 and then 4.2 later when is done.
They prolly already been testing the 4.1.2 since its been out for other phones way before. It doesnt hurt em to release it and then release 4.2 when its ready for them to test and approve it.
I highly doubt our S3's with ever see an official 4.2 update from T-Mobile.

You really think that Samsung won't push a 4.2 update? The S3 is their best competition to people flocking to the HTC One instead of the S4 - I bet it gets an update.
As for 4.1.2, I just don't see the point in releasing a 4.1.2 update but you're probably right, they'll drop 4.1.2 and keep us there until January.

Oh yes we will see 4.2!! Look at the S2 it got 4.1.2 and it was a gingerbread phone! the S2 is the only old phone that tmobile have that released 4.1.2. I remember back when the Amaze came out it was about the same time that the S2 did. The Amaze got ICS and that it. Loot at it this way. The HTC ONE S doesnt have JB yet and the S2 does. So yes that tells me that we will see a 4.2 update.

Would look retarded if we get 4.1.2 way later than a inferior device. We will get the 4.2 Samsung has stated some of the s4 features will come to s3. They just need the s4 to sell for a month or two so it's not on the same "version" as a year old device the s3

Not that it's not obvious but there's many roms with multiview and thew new gallery if you want it that bad lol. It would be nice to see it as an official update tho
I agree but that is not why im so interesting in it. My issue is that I cant see why tmobile would rather wait for 4.2 instead of 4.1.2. There shouldnt be a problem on releasing both. Since the 4.1.2 has been out for so long I bet ya samsung has probably gave to tmobile to test already. And then release 4.2.
When its ready. Sure wish my friend were still working with tmobile. He used to get this updates to test. I remember back with my G2X not after a month it was out my friend got one with GB to test. But in anyways im glad that samsung is keeping up with updates even to the old phones not like other phone companies like LG

Ill be fine if a dev is skillful enough to integrate multi-view and the note 2 gallery in a tmobile rom. I dont like running ports from another carrier, they are now 100% stable. This will make me come back for AOSP

T-mobile is not releasing 4.1.2 to us because they feel it is not really a major update (it eeally isn't, only with the premium suite). The carriers are charged for these updates, they don't come free. We would have got 4.1.2 along with the s2 if they were going to. Now 4.2 comes with major updates that no one can deny so they will release it because they know it will be an appriciated and much more noticeable update then 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.

Yeah apparently all carriers have to pay for these updates. I believe is mostly for the bloatware and extra carrier modifications each carrier wants implemented into their version of the OS.

I'm going to guess ATT will launch JB in late September. Hopefully the process will flow faster since recently taking heat, and pointing the finger at Google for being slow to push updates.

I remember it took AT&T months to put out the gingerbread update for my infuse. The last leak from samsung was I believe 3 or 4 months before official rom came out and it was the exact same rom.
If you are on xda the leak is when the rom is released, who cares about official at&t release.
I had froyo and gingerbread on my captivate months before at&t got their act together.

I don't think AT&T would release that as they don't want to mess with iPhone 5 roll out and steal that thunder. However the smart thing is for Samsung to push the crap out of this and put pressure on all carriers to release JB before iPhone 5 comes out.

With an official or leaked release of 4.1 of s3, will that improve the "original dev" section with faster development since the developers will have access to drivers they didn't before?

I think the carriers will defintiely slow the process down. However, I really don't think it will take as long as it did going from GB to ICS for SGS2 variants. If you recall, some SGS2 Variants in US and Canada just got their ICS around the same time SGS3 was released (LOL). But the upgrade from ICS to Jellybean is fairly small and I know that Google and Samsung (as well as other manufacturers) are trying to make updates a ltitle more timely than they have been in the past. Whether or not this will hold true is yet to be seen. However, seeing that there is already a leak for i9300 so soon shows me that Samsung is making more of an effort. I don't recall the ICS leaks for my i9100 coming out this soon
I'd be surprised if AT&T even releases JB for the Galaxy S3. Doing that would only benefit the customer, and it is strictly against AT&T's policy to do anything that might benefit the end user.
I'd say there is a 90% chance we will all be stuck with ICS unless we root and flash our own JB custom ROM's. AT&T doesn't care if you use ICS. Hell, 98% of people with the Galaxy S3 in the United States don't even know what ICS and Jellybean are, and they couldn't care less as long as the phone functions.

You get an A+ for positivity, but unfortunately, you're giving the carriers too much credit, especially AT&T. In the end, Samsung pushing out updates in a timely manner is as useful as rubber lips on a woodpecker because the frigging carriers are guaranteed to slow sh*t down so they can bloat the software up to their liking.

Question for all you experienced custom ROM installers: is there a custom JB rom in the wild that has everything working? I've been thinking about JB since it came out, and now I am reading that it might be another few months before we have the official T-Mobile version. I am finally tempted to root and do a custom rom.
So, is there a fully working, stable Cyogen Mod 10 out there? I am not interested in nightly builds. I would just like the experience one gets from a Nexus phone that is running vanilla JB.
Thanks!!

I say T-Mobile because the article is specifically referencing them. I've gone through all of the recent roms created by great devs like DJIntrigue which seem to be quite ready for prime time so it doesn't make much sense that there needs to be more "months" for a final release. We're not talking usability here as I assume most of us root our devices but it would be great to have faster availability of the latest Android firmware in case we wanted to run that.

The problem is carriers want to add in their own apps and "test" the update for compatibility with their networks...not to mention the majority of users aren't text savvy (or rooted, for that matter) and the carrier doesn't want to be flooded with "I updated mai fone and it's no worky no mo'" calls....
We may want faster availability, the carriers want people to pay upgrade fees (and/or buy devices outright) and less headaches....

Dj's and Wild's jb roms are fairly heavily modified. The leaks they are based on are still buggy and horrible on battery life.
I for one would much rather wait a few more months and get a solid release.
Besides, I'm willing to bet that most who are getting impatient waiting for the official release will wind up going back to custom roms within a couple of days anyway.
Plus, with how good Frosty and XquiziT are, you could pretend its based of the official release and be just as happy! (If I wanted to blame anyone it'd be them for raising the bar and forcing Tmobile and Sammy back to development!)
I honestly don't get all the impatience. With how hyped some folks are getting over it I can only see them being disappointed! Then we get to read all about how lame Sammy and Tmobile are for not taking the time to make it better!

No leaks anymore from samsung period! For any device.
It'd have to be leaked from tmobile for us to get it now.
That's how I understand it anyway. If you follow the build versions, there would've probably been about 9 other leaks by now, had they kept their systems up like they were.
(Last leak was LI8, new ota is LIJ) 9 builds in between. Also I'm guessing the jb update must not actually be ready. (Maybe they found something they didn't like)
They seem to be doing what I expected with having another official ICS update before JB.
I could be wrong of course. Time will tell.

Highly unlikely, T-Mobile seems to update Android phone with 1 major update and then minor ones if they really have a bad bug to fix and the SII already had it's 1 Major update to ICS. As already said look at the Vibrant, it got Froyo but no official Gingerbread update. Same goes for every other Android phone I have had from T-Mobile. Also when Samsung officially announced Jelly Bean upgrades for their phone line the T989 was not listed with that, so another indicator that it's unlikely that we will see an official update from T-mobile for it.

There has been a leak for the international version, the Epic 4G touch. And a release date on the tlus website as well as the Rogers website which is the Canadian version of the skyrocket .. Multiview on our dual-core units might not be enabled when the 4.1.2 or 4.2 update be rolled out due to the decoding bottleneck at 1080p
Having any more than two videos playing on our small screens wouldn't be practical anyway unlike the Note2 or a full fledged tablet.
You could also wait for Samsung's Premium Suite which most likely will be leaked anyway.

I wonder how the carrier implementation will be. I want one without the AT&T bloatware. What you could also do is to root your phone with CMW, install busybox and SpoofFW. You would then use SpoofFW to spoof the CSC and productCode to get Samsung Kies to give you that official update. It's just a though that I'll be trying out later today.

I don't think the i9300 software will work on anything other than the i9300.
We'll have to wait for the 4.1.2 firmware to be rolled out from carriers.
Keeping this in mind for next time I buy a phone. International is the way to go I suppose.

I really can't believe you stated the obvious. lol
All I was saying is that : "At least there is some hope in the not so distant future for us i747 users".

The note2 used the same type of processor, so this will be easy for the Note2
Be that as it may but the same guy doing that is also working on being able to flash international FW on other sgs3 variants

Does anyone have any idea when the update is estimated to be released?
I find it strange that there isn't any leaks available online as yet (for the i747)
It's not too strange. No leaks were released for the 4.1.1 update (that we could get our hands on...there was a version that appeared in some benchmarks, but was never found).
Try tweeting @ATTCustomerCare; they gave us a bit of information last go-around. Otherwise--and I'm the guy who started and curated the now-ancient "JB Release Thread"--rumors are rarely, if ever, correct. More than a few false alarms from crock websites stated the "4.1.1" update was being released "within days" weeks early from the actual release and even AT&T mis-typed that 4.1.1 update as being 4.1.2 in quite a few places (internal memos, Twitter).
The most accurate information was from AT&T and all it said was "coming soon." Granted, "coming soon" translated to about a week. Don't get your hopes up, though: some of the cool stuff in the 4.1.2 update, we already have in our version of 4.1.1 (like the Smart Rotation).
TBH, I think we're more likely to get a 4.2 update in a few months than a odd 4.1.2 update, because of that.
~Ibrahim~
Has anyone been able to find a 4.1.2 port from the i9300 to work on out i747 as yet since our carriers aren't going to compile it?
At this point I'm guessing a substantial stock firmware won't be coming until after the sgs4 is announced in a few months. Blame your carriers.
If you really want the latest and greatest go with an AOSP rom or a nexus device next time.

I'm looking for a AOSP ROM without any tweaks, but I've now gotten too used to the touchwiz interface.

Not really too sure but it should be soon. Maybe within the first month of next year? the note just got it and we should soon follow. Its not easy either because there are a lot of updating that needs to be done and they test everything so it takes time. It will be some time before we get 4.2 and by that time, google will probably have released another OS in google IO. Ill be real, JB is great on these devices, i actually want google to slow down the updates so that manufacturers can somewhat catch up to the latest one in updateing capable devices and then move on forward. Also you have to look at the fact that they well you your S3, they make money. zthe already worked ICS onto it and were paid for ICS and the S3. when they have to develop and work on JB, Thats on their own money and time. But yeah, im getting off margin here. I belive that the s3 can probably see one more update after 4.2. after that, well it will be pointless as the GS5 may be in the horizon which aint bad. After my s3, ill probably go for the GS5 if im not too compelled by the note 3 lol
Just flash it now

It really comes down to the manufacturers to release the update OTA, samsung has been putting all the updates out pretty quick.

That is NOT the Stock OTA update. That is CM10
If that were the OTA Update, we'd say share the File with others , so we can MOD it to death!
Once the OTA update hits The east coast of USA or where ever it hits first, someone will upload the stock file! I herd it was suppost to hit Poland Dec 21, 2012
I just bought mine yesterday and the update was available when I get home with it.
Dont you have to be rooted for that?

U mean u have 4.1.1 Right ? If u have 4.1.2 then share it... show screen shot ... I don't think it's out yet (Dec 22, 2012)
we would be flooded with Posts that it hit last night at 3:00 am in NY or east coast etc. and many would post!
I heard that 4.1.2 should be out for update sometime in Feb 2013.

Cant wait that long!! :crying: Think its worth it to root and instal the leaked 4.1.2 or should I just wait? I feel like battery life sucks on stock 4.1.1 that im running. I might reset to factory settings(where I had best battery life) and just wait for word on 4.1.2
:sigh:

Strange, I'm getting pretty good battery life on stock.

I get the same battery life I did before.
Use BetterBatteryStats to determine what's the cause of bad battery life. I had problems when I first updated - found out it was Google Now trying to use GPS all the time for the most part. They really ought to tell people about that and make it more clear since many don't seem to realise what's going on.
I know that the eBay app is also a battery hog, but I can't part with it.
I'm happy to have JB...I was on ICS previous with the HTC One S (long story but good ending). My question with 4.1.2.....will it come with Photo Sphere camera app? I'm completely stock unrooted...not ever going to root...so don't even tell me to root please.

#1 The T-Mobile Note 2 does not have 4.1.2, it got an update to 4.1.1 allowing multiview.
#2 The GS5 on the horizon ? The GS4 hasn't even been announced yet dude.
#3 Do your homework and find a smaller sig.

4.1.2 does not have photosphere dude, that's a feature of 4.2 AOSP. Most likely will be integrated into the sammy 4.2 update but who knows.

Haha this is comical good one... well from what I know 4.2 obviously international markets would get it first(maybe they already have it?) Maybe someone can chime in on this. Since these updates take so long I bet most carriers are just skipping 4.1.2 and go straight to 4.2 next year. Consider most US carriers just got 4.1 lol
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
The only devices that have 4.2 is Nexus devices at the moment. They always get stuff as soon as it is announced because they are pure google devices. 4.1.2 is incremental and the international Note 2 already has it. 4.2 is still some time away bro. I mean you can flash a CM10.1 ROM and that literally is 4.2, but it is missing all the Samsung packages. Samsung's actual 4.2 official release is still far off. Expect to see it leaked before the OTA hits.
My bad....I posted that very early in the morning....I confused 4.1.2 with 4.2. Still hope we get photo sphere at some point though. Never understand why carriers get rid of some features.

I dont think carriers get rid of some features!!! But if you want photo sphere just install the stock camera apk it works pretty good.
He's not rooted, and doesn't plan to be.
I've had 4.1.1 now for a few weeks and I do not see the buttery-ness of jelly bean at all that everyone is talking about. I actually notice some severe lag whenever I use the keyboard. Anything from typing in text messages and searching in the browser makes the keys sticky as can be
Where is my butter!
