Toolkit for CMW, Root, and ROM's on Mac? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I have replaced the optical drive with an additional HDD and i cannot install Parallels on Bootcamp. Is there a workaround to use OSX for rooting and flashing ROM's successfully?

I rooted using the exploit, I only have a macbook right now. I've had little luck with anything for my note 2 and Mac, probably same for this note.

Unfortunately, in the last six years I've been messing with Android devices, I haven't seen much in the way of development utilities being ported to Mac. Definitely never seen these all-in-one toolkits. Development seems a bit slow for this particular device whether its because of the high expense or lack of cellular radio, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
Do you have the hard drive space for a BootCamp solution? I hate rebooting my Macbook just to get into Windows to mess with my devices, but its a small price to pay.

I thought if doing the boot camp thing as well, I definitely have the space. I should do that.

There is plenty of space. 240 ssd and 1 T but, bootcamp doesn't install unless I will put the optical drive back in the Macbook and install Windows in ssd. A bit more of a hassle but seems like the only way

Is the no sd card a huge down for the nexus?

?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
I really haven't noticed. Everything still works ( nandroid backups, titanium) just like any other android phone.
Its a virtual sd card. I was also worried I'd miss a real one. But it's a non issue for me. Fwiw.

Just sucks not being able to pop in your sd card from your old phone and having your stuff right away.. But its easy to move your stuff over.. And it would suck if you damaged your phone and wasn't able to save things. So make sure you back everything up

No. I still have plenty of space left even with a bunch of music. Admittedly I don't watch or care about movies and TV series on my phone. Just books and music.

i dont miss the sd necessarily, but i miss usb disc mode. mtp is worthless with my macbook pro.

This is the biggest hit. Many devices that support USB mass storage don't support mtp, like my car.

if you need more than 15 GB of space, then you are out of luck
or in the Verizion version if you need more than 31 GB of space, then you are out of luck
I stream media mostly so it doesn't really matter. I barely use the space except for some games.

Not really. 32 gigs is enough for me. Everything else can be stored in the cloud for when I need it.

Or you can get USB Host
Expandable USB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400034 not as convenient... but its there
you could even be "ghetto" and use the expandable USB to a ASUS Transformer or another tablet and then you have some more storage + a on the go charger!
so long as you have unlimited data & don't mind relying on the cloud then its no problem.
I honestly am starting to prefer the lack of SD card. I have the VZW version, so 32gb is a lot of storage to begin with, and the internal memory is faster than the cheaper SD cards. Also, USB works fine for me.

Android File Transfer works great for me on my MacBook Pro. Give it a try.
Having vzw and obviously 32 gb is cool with me however if it would've been 16 gb it may have been inconvenient not a deal breaker tho
Really not a big deal. I'm sure not every single phone everyone has ever had has the same specs.

Personally no. I have had numerous devices that offered the ability to expand storage. I only used it to expand storage and I've never needed to take advantage of the ability to swap memory cards. The Verizon GN has 32GB which is more than enough space for me.
I sorta felt the same way at first until my buddy explained there was really no need for more gb.
It not like you need to carry all your Harry potter movies with you and if your going to load up your phones with games and movies with more than 16gb you wouldn't be able to consume it in one day anyways.
Its a phone not a house to store your media library. With cloud and all phone app 16gb is plenty
Miss the SD card support.
Would've been able to use a Sd sleeve and micro SD card to transfer photos from my Camera to my phone so I could upload them while I was on my ski trip..
It's not a problem for me. I actually prefer having built in memory. I have unlimited data so storing it in the cloud is no issue for me and tbh, it's a phone not a computer.
SD card is nice for the portability and that it's physically separate from the phone, as far as storage - i think the mass are satisfied with 16/32GB internal storage.
There will always be fringe users who want something insane like 64GB.

Error when rooting with Toolbox??

I'm trying to root my S3 with the latest version of toolbox and I've watched the video here on xda and I followed everything to a T but when in Odin I keep getting the same error over and over, Can't open the serial (COM) port. Any ideas?? Its really frustrating. I've made sure USB debbuging is checked too so its not that. I'm using a windows 8 laptop, don't know if that has anything to do with it but its reading my device. Drivers installed OK. Please help!!!

Why use a toolbox which can cause issues and you actually don't know what it's doing. When rooting the S3 is the easiest thing and takes less than 5 minutes. I recommend this and works with all variants and you learn what your doing.

I've actually tried other ways besides the toolbox but its the same problem. It keeps failing at the same spot in Odin. I have rooted before, I have a GNote 2, a GNote 10.1, & a Nexus 4, all of which I rooted but for some reason the S3 will not pass in Odin!!! So if someone can figure it out please let me know cause its got me stumped as to why it fails in Odin.

Are you extracting the Tar file when using odin?

[Q] From Android to Window 8

Hi, anyone know if it is possible to switch from an Android platform to a Windows mobile 8 on the Sprint Galaxy Note 2?
No it wont happen. There is a very slim chance to actually pull it off. And we bought android phones for android. Sell your phone and get a windows phone.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
arm windows 8 is proprietary and driver locked... if you pull it off it's illegal and to pull it off you would need to write your own drivers

Not interested in changing from Android to Windows. Just wanted to try it if possible. Thanks for your information.
It was answered in the other thread you posted too. ... no real need to spam the board with the same question because you didn't like the answer

Rooting a g4 with a chromebook

Does anyone on here own a chromebook? I was looking at one but if i cant root my phone with it that would be a deal breaker. I was looking at a toshiba chromebook 2
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
You can use adb with a chromebook, but unfortunately you need to use send_command.exe to root this device. I've heard about a python script out there. If you can get that to work, you should be OK.
PS
IMHO Chromebooks are pointless and you should just get a cheap laptop.

S-off phone with test software on it

So I acquired an s off tester phone with old test software on it. Where and what all do I need to read up on in order to catch up with flashing an m9 without borking it.
Also most stable or newest ROM suggestions are appreciated. I'm so used to my nexus that I'm spinning my wheels trying to work out the steps
