Hello All,
My t989 keeps loosing connection when attached to any pc while copying files to the external sd card. Also cannot install roms, restore roms, or install any large files from that sd card. The card is a 64 gig card, but this behavior also occurs with the 32 gig card. This problem start happening apprx. 2 weeks ago. I've even reformatted both cards but the problem remains.
Any ideas folks?
My T989 is rooted, and I run PACMan rom and CM10.1.
Thank you everyone.

Yeah, thanks for your suggestion but it didn't help.
Have positively know idea why this is happening, but I'll figure something out.

If you mount USB in recovery does it do the same thing? If so, you probably have a faulty USB port.

Well, I just tried it while in recovery, and file transfer worked just fine.

I'm beginning to think that my ROM has become corrupted/unstable and that may be the cause. I'll completely wipe and re-flash the sometime this week and see if that does the trick!

Boot into the bootloader, then select clear storage. This is a COMPLETE wipe of data...
Or, try and flash a new rom first before doing the prior.
i cant flash anything cause my sd card is wipe, there is nothing on it... i did the clear storage and nothing... how can i get my sd card to be read on my pc or mac

Same Issue here, someone said to go back to stock, and then reflash everything. Let me know if you found a better solution.

Finally got it to work by just doing a factory reset. I was stock none rooted. But trying to root at the time.

This happened to me after I switched Roms, but I just did a factory reset and re flashed the ROM and it seemed to do the trick.
Gremlins I guess, always best to do a data wipe and factory reset.

Yeah, but it is very important to have the ability to have your phone connect to your PC, this makes things much easier and quicker as well.
Also you can't access the internal memory of your phone, this solution just solves half of the battle.
Hi all. Got a problem with my One X where it seems something is using all my storage space.
Has anyone seen this before? Easy fix? Going to move to a different Rom soon but this is crippling my phone until I move. Will post my current Rom in a follow up.
Villan Rom 1.1.1 is what I'm running.

Known problem prior to 1.29.401.11 (or equivalent). If your base is same or newer, just copy the data off the phone, format SD Card and copy it back on.
Ok thanks BenPope. Will give that a try.

Yup. It's a known issue that HTC has fixed in their updates Just copy everything from your SD, format it through the phone options, then copy everything back. It's an issue where files aren;t "really" deleted, hence still taking the space that should have been freed.
Sorry for the late reply to this. Where can I get the base files from?
You can use MIUI rom,but it's not android 4.1
I just bought a brand new Samsung class 10 sdcard, and my phone always says it's corrupted. Twrp recognizes it fine, my computer does, but the OS does not. I keep trying to reformat it in settings but nothing changes, as soon as it finishes it says it's corrupted.
Any suggestions?

The card may not be broken, there is a known issue with the way htc devices format large cards.
Small corruptions will eventually lead to problems.
Use SD card formatter from the net, you'll need to do this on your pc. Don't format on your phone as it can cause problems. I had issues with an official, 128GB SanDisk card, since using that it's been fine.
I bought a Samsung Pro Plus UHS-1 32 GB card from Best Buy, don't see how I would've gotten a fake.
This same problem happened with my other sandisk 64gb card, and it was working fine, but I forgot what may have triggered the issue as it's been awhile.

I've tried formatting it with my PC, using the standard formater included with the OS on Windows. Like I said it's brand new. I'm going to go exchange it today but open the box in the store and try a different card just to be sure.
There have been a lot of posts about SD card problems in the LeeDrOiD thread. Try using a different kernel if you're on clumsy. ElementalX seems to work, and Clean Slate definitely does -- I'm using it myself. Also try to format exfat on the phone instead of on your PC.
Most likely it's not the card, as it seems to be an issue for many HTC 10 users.

That is not what I said mate. There is an application called SD formatter. Please try that before you send it back..

I just exchanged it for a sandisk card of the same specs, so it's definitely my phone as I am now having the same issue. I tried ElementalX and now I'm on the stock kernel, and no dice.

It has nothing to do with the kernel, it's the way the phone formats it. Use the app ive suggested and you'll be fine.

A hardware fault seems the least likely and most difficult diagnosis. I'd try a few more fixes at least, including dladz's suggestion.
Not an expert by any means -- I'm just summarizing what I saw elsewhere -- but there are a lot of posts about SD card problems and a few suggestions that there's a bug in the stock HTC kernel.

Huh. Well I tried CleanSlate and have the same issue. I'll try formatting it on my PC when I get home from work. This is just really frustrating, as I've never had a problem like this. Hopefully I don't have to exchange my phone.

Personally I would RUU to stock to test, and then install a new custom ROM if that didn't work -- can't think of anything more frustrating than having to exchange the phone! Good luck.
EDIT: Every solution I've come across has to do with the kernel or formatting the card on a PC. Make sure the kernel and the firmware are a good match, too.

Damn, well I guess I'll flash the RUU.
Funny thing is, is that I can use my SD card in twrp. I'll make a custom recovery.img and put that on the root of my sdcard to flash back twrp.

Well, I hope it's not a hardware problem. Gotta rule everything out one by one, seems like the software is funky. I'm using Viper right now.

I suspect the software too. This started for me after updating to the latest OTA 1.91.617.1. It(Sandisk 128GB) worked fine prior to that.
I tried formatting on PC using the windows method and also the SDFormatter application with no luck. The card works fine in TWRP but doesnt as soon as I boot the phone(Stock OS). The same card works fine in an old HTC EVO 4G LTE and Galaxy S3.

I might just downgrade later on, this is ridiculous that this can happen. Gotta wait til after work.
When I got my HTC 10 unlocked sd cards worked fine and then I put the Verizon ruu on it a couple days later any SD card I tried showed corrupted but did not in twrp or in my other phone so I restored my phone to stock and they have worked fine since.
I'm having this same problem! My card was working just fine, but after I tried doing an OTA update on my rooted HTC10 every SD card I put in is somehow corrupt, despite working fine on every other device. Is there a fix?
Oh, restoring a backup before the error popped up fixed it.
Hi guys!
My htc 10 is European s-one with bootloader unlocked and I loaded maximusHD 1.95.401 in it and stock kernel.
The problem is that during night I switch it off and recharge it and when I switch it on again it can restart itself up to 5 times before showing the 3 dots htc logo. Practically it restart the first vibration feed 3 to 5 times, seems like in a bootloop. Is that normal? Thanks for your help!

Most probably something screwed ur sd card up. you should try reformatting it and doing it again.
my guess is that maximus rom had something to do with it.
Hope it fixes ur issue!

Okay, but as for your format SD question...
If it is less than 32gb format it to FAT32, if it is more than 32gb format it to exfat.
There is an SD formatter from the SD Association that you could try. It'll clean it right up, but you'll need patience while running it. The full format takes a while (like over an hour for larger cards).
You can download that formatter from here. It has worked for a few people I know.
EDIT: You could flash the newest MaximusHD ROM with old firmware if you like, but the fingerprint and home button won't work. Otherwise it'll run fine.

Your always welcome! i would say try a sd that is of a maximum capacity of 64gb just to be on the safe side.
a couple would be the Sandisk Extreme 64GB or the PNY U3 Turbo 64GB.
Hope this helps ya!
