Hi friends. I have a unlocked T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3. I brought it here to Honduras. I only have 3G on my network. I use Tigo. Do I have to change modem to have a 4G? Greetings.

According to Google, Tigo uses HSPA 21Mbps and UMTS in the rest of their network. What speeds are you seeing? No modem change will be required unless they have deployed LTE, in which case, I am sorry to say you will not be able to use the T999 on any LTE network.

Anybody running one of these unlocked on Tmobile's network? if so, what kind of speeds are you getting?
I have tried a T-Mobile SIM in my Nitro before just for the heck of it. (I bought an unlock code for mine if anyones wondering.) Speedtest.net app said like 160kbps down, I forget what the up was but it was pretty low in the double digit kbps.
I am using on tmobile also...its not that fast since u only get 2g but to me its worth the sacrifice for this sweet phone

T-Mobile in the US uses different frequencies for HSPA/HSPA+ than AT&T and has no LTE, so any AT&T phone used on T-Mobiles network only gets 2G.

Just to elaborate. T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 aka AWS for 3G/HSPA. AT&T uses 850 and 1900 bands for 3G/HSPA.
There are phones that do all 3 bands, such as the Galaxy Nexus or HTC Amaze 4G, but its not common.

It might be possible to get 3G on T-Mobile it was done for ATT Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717 and ATT SGH-i727 by flashing modem from T-Mobile Galaxy S2. The LG Nitro HD features same cpu and modem as samsungs phones (APQ8060, MDM9200) so someone knowledge enough might be able to flash a model from a T-Mobile phone like Blaze 4G or T-Mobile S2 onto Nitro HD and 3G going on AWS.
Hello,
I have Galaxy II with Tmobile data plan. 4G speed connection is great.
I just switched the phone to Galaxy III 9300 international version, which is a gift from my brother... I mananged to cut the current tmobile sim card smaller and put in the 9300. I am able to make the call, but cannot enable the 4G data connection.
Just wonder will 9300 version will work with tmobile 4g network. should I need to upgrade or flash Tmobile flavor Android ROM to 9300 to get 4G network with tmobile?
Thanks
NO! The hardware between the international version and the US variants is different. Flashing the TMO rom will brick your device. The only GS3 version that will work with TMO 4G is the T999, which is the TMO version. It is the only one that supports the 1700 MHz frequency that TMO uses for HSPA
DONT DO IT!!!!!!!
sent via galaxy s3 in boss mode @ 2.1ghz
Omg....please for your phones sake do not do this. If u wanted 4g data u shouldnt have got an international gs3 if they refarm the 1900 mhz band where u live soon u will be in luck with 3g. But until then u are stuck on edge. Read up some more to dont go flashing anything that isnt for your phone
Not a chance. You'll have to wait for T-Mobile to roll out 1900mhz towers if you want 4G on that phone.
OH GOD.. I am in luck.... I live in Atlanta area and I just checked out I9300 international phone speed... I see H+ and 3G signal indicator in my phone. I did not see it when I was inside the house... I did speed test and 5 MB up, 1MB down... So I will keep i9300 with me...

Sure you can flash but your phone will be useless after that
when I go through the specs for the AT&T and Tmobile variants for the note 2, I come across a difference in the following
AT&T,
GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Tmobile
Frequencies and Data Type GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz UMTS: Band I ,band II, Band IV (Dual-band1700/2100 MHz), Band V
What does the dual band mean? Is it for Tmobiles 4G network?
I thought all the Note 2's in the US had the same LTE radio
please shed some light,
thanks
1700 MHz/2100 MHz UMTS (WCDMA) AWS is currently T-Mobile's 4G network.
T-Mobile will have LTE up and running sometime within next year (2013).
Yes T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 devices do have LTE. But it is now not activated. T-Mobile will activate the LTE within T-Mobile's Galaxy Note 2 when they get their LTE service up and running within your area.
How to activate the LTE and running on another carrier is a good question. This I get bits and pieces. But not a full step-by-step process yet.
The T-Mobile Note II is pentaband; it will work on AT&T and T-Mobile 3G/4G (not LTE though as of now). I think that's what you're getting at.

I believe that we can get the LTE up and running with other carriers. I know that I got LTE working on my GN2 (SGH-T889). We just need to learn how to get the LTE running with other carriers. That is really the question. When we figure that out then this might be able to be applied to other GN2 devices.
Tmobile hasnt turned on lte yet. From what i understand once they do our note 2's should be able to utilize it.

Tmobile uses 42.2 mbps dual channel hsdpa.
Afaik, At&t uses 21.1 mbps hsdpa.
Lte(long term evolution) is a different technology not yet active for Tmobile customers.
Real World, my friend with a Galaxy nexus on Tmobile network gets about 8mbps while I get 14mbps. Galaxy nexus has the 21.1mbps capable modem.

You're talking about something called DC-HSPA (Dual Channel/Carrier), which is basically what you said: Using 2 frequencies of HSPA(+) to achieve basically double the throughput.
Is it a hardware limitation (as in slightly modified Qualcomm LTE Chipset) in the AT&T Note 2 that 42mbps is not supported compared to T-Mobiles version? Or it is software / firmware-controlled?

It could be software (on the modem level, which is low-level stuff and separate from the ROM); T-Mobile's Galaxy S II was basically AT&T's Skyrocket with LTE disabled. You could actually flash a T-Mobile S2's modem onto a Skyrocket to get it to work on T-Mobile frequencies (but you can't get LTE enabled on the T-Mobile S II as far as I know).
would you say the note 2 from verizon is any better since it also includes a CDMA radio? Also, though LTE only works in the upper 700 frequency, any change a modem update or firmware change will allow the verizon version to work on T-mobile or AT&T network?

No; CDMA is useless unless you're going to be using it on the carrier it came from. I'd say the T-Mobile version is the best (in terms of working with the most networks), then the AT&T version (because it has LTE), then the International version (because it's the AT&T version without LTE), and after that the Verizon one because Sprint are jerks because they use "embedded SIMs".
Hi,
I searched whole Galaxy Note 2 Forums for my question but did not get direct answer. My question is
Can I use AT&T Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-i317) in India and get 3g data as is without making any modification to Bands?
or
Should I enable AWS (TMobile 3g/4g) bands in this phone to use 3G in India.
If anybody is using this phone in India, let me know how / which carrier in India are you using.

Depends what bands your carrier uses. The phone (without the AWS hack) supports 850/900/1900/2100 MHz for 3G.

I thought it supports only triband for 3g (900MHz being unavailable). Can you please confirm that SGH-i317 supports 900MHz for 3G.

I can't confirm that it actually works, other than this screenshot from my i317 (I did the AWS hack, which is why 1700 MHz comes up). GSM carriers in the US use 850/1900 (AT&T) and 1700/1900/2100 (T-Mobile) for 3G. So I can't see if 900 MHz works:
http://db.tt/WTFsWwwa
However, I don't think the phone will show bands that it doesn't support, so it should work. I have a hard time believing the phone is only Tri-Band, when my Galaxy S3 i9300 is quad-band (850/900/1900/2100 MHz) UMTS.
I know that the Verizon version works with 900 MHz because on Samsung's websites, it's quad-band UMTS. Yes, the Verizon version can also do GSM. It comes unlocked as well. You just have to use root and an APN application to add your carrier's APN, or just install a custom ROM that enables the APN menu.
I actually had the exact opposite question. I am planning on buying the Galaxy Note II (N7100) in India and I wanted to know if the 3G facility would work for any GSM provider in the United States?? I wanted to know if all the N7100 models (including the ones in India) are Quad band 3G. If so I guess the AT&T 3G should work as quad band would be compatible with the 850/1900 frequencies used by AT&T. Any help in this regard would be appreciated. I hope to be in the US from September for studies and thus wanted to be sure Id be able to use this phone for 3G there.

Thanks for confirming. I was worried that I will miss out on 3g because of this 900MHz.

I travel India frequently and have US (AT&T) and India (Vodaphone) SIM, I just swap the sim and everything works great. I am on cleanrom 4.8. No issues and great Internet speed in Mumbai. Even I was able to do RDC without any issues.
Thanks.
