Help with Rooting Stock MC2 & Getting TWRP - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

i recently a new gnote2 and it was updated OTA to MC2. i want to install whompasaurus or another ROM on it, but need to get it rooted with a custom recovery first off (at least this is my understanding). does anyone know how to accomplish this as all the root methods i've found are for MA7( ie the Gnote Toolkit)?

I have a Mac and this is method I used since my windows computer is not working. It takes me about 5 minutes or less to use this method. One trick to know with this method and the Sprint note 2 is after phone reboots after the rooting you must remove battery immediately for the root to take. Otherwise you'll have to do it again.

I am in the exact same boat... I want to flash WHOMP but am currently stock MC2. Did you use toolkit option 92 (MA7) to get your root? Did you flash WHOMP right over the stock rom? Did you have to odin to MA7 first then flash WHOMP? Little help...

yes, you are basically using the latest option he has for your phone... which I think he just updated it recently too. I just followed the directions on the toolkit thread and it will walk you through everything, even the Odin part. I don't recall using Odin to go back to ma7.
Watch QBKING77's YouTube video on it, it was the clearest for me to understand & follow. Here is a link to that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6BweCW5ck8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

No, you are just flashing the recovery and a zip file for root. Does not wipe data.

Would it be wise waiting until an OTA update comes? You would think there would be one just for misc bugs, as well as hopefully multi window support.

ota not working
So I just have twrp installed so i could use wifi tether. I just got the OTA last night for the security update. I knew it would fail after the reboot. I went into TWRP selected install, from /cache were the ota was sitting. It appeared to be working but failed at the end.
error message: assert failed getprop ro.secure =1
Is there anyway around this?
So as of right now there is now way to root with the latest OTA installed correct? I just got my Note II yesterday and the OTA came through this morning and I, without thought, accepted and installed it. Is there a way to root or need I wait until a method releases with the latest OTA?

You can root using odin or cf auto root or twrp or cwm etc. No more exonys abuse.

You can still root using any method other than the exynos abuse app. Just flash a custom recovery In odin and then flash a root.zip

No way around that. Easy way to explain, need to reset your binary counter using triangle away. Must be run as many times as you need to get it down to 1, then you must unroot using su preferably so it can cleanly do it. Then you must install the stock recovery then you can update. Hope that helps. I just did all this today, hence that's why I'm posting this late. Took me a while to figure out why it kept failing. Triangle away is a must if you want to do it without installing a rooted rom with update built in.

Hello, regarding my root. :(

So I have been rooted for a couple months now with no problems at all, I do have the t-mobile note 2 which is model # SGH-T889. And I opened up Superuser and there is an unroot button which was not check but soon became checked I was unaware at the time you can even unroot a phone via a program. Is there a way to reverse this problem, all of my rooted apps no longer allow me to open them up, But for say wallpappers and some other apps I was able to keep them
www(dot)/gyazo(dotcom)/74c27571285f3d19f866b09be020013a
That is what my Titanium backup says above.
I also tried installed the newere SuperSU or whatever that didn't work either.
And even still "Software update" "Your device has been modified.Software updates are not available" Hit OK, I only just found out today there is a program called "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" Only had I known about this program yesterday none of this would have happened, in the "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper"there should be check marks allow me to uncheck/recheck and there is no huge button for backup/unroot/root. that tells me I'm not rooted I guess.
A buddy of mine actually helped me root via teamviewer And I do not have the proper kit/know how to do it for my model #. If someone can help me in another way besides just rerooting the original way that would help. But if not if you have a known good rootkit for my situation.
I am sorry if this is not in the right section under my phone. I wanted to put it in the dev area but read that they will delete it if you put it there, even though It would seem that is the proper area since this is a rooting situation.
If you guys need any more information about my issue please ask

Is there a method to doing so? I do remember via teamviewer he used a rootkit of some kind would that work even in my current case? I still have superuser on my phone along with kies.

Are you sure it is rom I need to DL, Don't I need to be rooted first to get the rom on there? My problem is my phone is half rooted, titanium backup says clear busybox and one other app, but every single other app says I need to be rooted, Along with that being weird when I try to do a software update. It tells me that I have a modded device so I cannot do it. In the mean while before I reroot again I would like to get the most recent update.

[SOLVED] [Q] Flashing CWM with Heimdall

As yet I've been using my Note 8.0 Wifi (N5110?) rooted but with stock firmware. However, I'd quite like to get at least a custom recovery on there so I can try some different ROMs. But first I have some questions -- sorry if they're basic but I learnt about flashing with my Nexus 4 and things don't seem nearly as simple with non Google devices...
I am aware that there's a Note 8 toolkit, but it's Windows only, as in Odin by the looks of it. I read about another flashing tool called Heimdall with Linux support. Has anyone used Heimdall with their Note 8 WiFi successfully? I'm cautious of jumping into this and destroying my expensive new tablet, so I'd really appreciate any advice.
EDIT: Flashed a recovery in download mode using heimdall without issues.

[Request] Sprint 4.3 Stock ROM + Root

Hello everyone!
Im not sure if this post belongs in this thread, but I thought it would be best suited in the Sprint Galaxy Nexus thread.
Can someone please make a stock 4.3 rooted rom for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus? Or, if someone has already received the update, could you post a nand backup?
I want to update, but I dont want to lose root. However, If there isn't any other solution, I will definitely take the plunge

If you're doubting the update don't, the OTA process involves sending the update 1 by 1 randomly so that everyone doesn't download the file at once and overload the download servers, causing bad downloads, and bricking devices and in the end you'll get unhappy customers.

Been running stock rooted all day today. I just used Odin to go back to 4.2.1 and used that zip Phandroid (I think it was them) renamed it update.zip put it in root of storage. Booted the phone and it said there was an update. Choose to reboot and it installed it. Then fastboot flashed twrp and flashed an su zip. Granted It wiped my phone but I just used helium to restore data on some of my apps and everything has been fine

If he loses root or custom recovery how's he gonna restore ? I'm thinking of trying it as well . I've made a nandroid , just wondering if I'd be able to get it restored complete with root and custom recovery ? Thanks

Tl;dr custom recovery stayed, root obtained by flashing supersu.
Last night I used fastboot to flash system user data radios and boot images from the 4.2.1 factory image. Flashed the 4.3 zip in twrp. Made a nandroid of stock, then flashed supersu zip. All is good

I tried flashing the zip in TWRP and it failed. Not sure why maybe a bad download.

I went ahead and flashed it, in CWM, and everything is working great. Had to reflash Superuser, in this case, Koush's Superuser, and everything is fine.

I renamed the file update.zip and tried this, and no go, what am I doing wrong, could it be due to being on a 4.2.2 ROM?

I tried a fresh download using CWM this time and it still failed. What am I missing?

I went and restored a backup of Stock 4.2.1, and just flashed over that. No wiping or anything. Do you have a Stock backup?

Nope, any chance on flashing a stock rooted ROM perhaps.

You could try it. My Stock ROM was rooted, and I all I had to do was reflash my Superuser zip after I let it boot up once, just to make sure the update took properly.

Download the file from the linked thread there for our device and then pick which instruction set applies to you from the second post in that thread. Since I'm leaving Sprint and giving my Gnex to my two year old, I unrooted, returned to stock, and locked the device. After following the directions for adb sideload, everything came up great.

Upgrading to T-Mobile 4.3 via OTA

Just checked for updates as described in other threads and it found the latest 4.3 update. I have read both positive and negative responses to the update. Some found things they used in 4.1.2 that are being taken away. Some like the new features in 4.3. It will vary from person to person whether the ROM is better for them or not. Fact is, all devices (current and future) are moving forward.
Should I just install the update? Should I make a copy of my current setup with one of the recoveries, then odin back, and run triangle away?
Strange. I went ahead and updated. Even after doing two complete resets, I still have SU app from 4.1.2. I guess it carried the program during the upgrade process?

it basically dirty flashed the new update over your 4.1.2. I honestly didn't care much about the KNOX boot loader since my warranty is already over. but, I find not having to flash devil kernel so much easier w/ less lag.

Hopefully someone will develop something that resets the KNOX counter. Triangle worked for 4.1.2, but does not work in 4.3 for me.
BTW, what 4.3 ROMs do you like, since we have the new bootloader? I just installed TWRP and trying to decide on a ROM.

exactly why I didn't care much for the T-Mobile ROMs. it works spectacular. w/ the new boot loader you won't have to flash devil kernel to get WiFi working. and there's no data drops. + we get the N3 features.

I am installing DN3 and am in their installer. It asks me whether I want the N7105 version... or the i317 or i317M. I read to install the ATT version, but what's the difference in the M and non-M version?
So I have a question I hqvent been on in a while and last I checked the newest update came with a locked bootloader. I know it did for the s3. I liked the newest software on the s3 but I jus5 cant stand all that bloat and not having full control of my phone. That s3 was killing me. I just got my note2 back from samsung with a nice new screen and of coure they forgot to send the spen with it. Not that I use the stupid thing anyway but still come on. Anyway is the bootloader locked on this one also and how hard is that to get around?

theyre for different companies i believe. as how ours (T889) also has a T889v ( i think thats the right letter) version as its for a different conpany. I installed using the ATT one. there's really no difference because you're just going to flash a tmobile modem over it.

yes the boot loader is locked. I don't believe there's a workaround it yet. but I'm even sure. you can scroll around through the threads and see if there is. what I did was just update it anyways and tripped my KNOX boot loader to ox1. I didn't have warranty anyways so I'm not tripping over it. and then I just rooted it, flashed cwm and started to flash ROMs.

Thank you. So is the root process the same? Usually i flash twrp with odin then install su permissions then I flash away. Or do I have to use another method? Really all I want is the modem software so I could just wait till someone pulls it out they usually do. I always liked c heckin out the latest stock rom but always changed back to aokp.

I wrote instructions on how I rooted. there could be other methods to. this is easiest for me! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562994
if you're going to end up on aokp, you should just stay on the 4.1.2 boot loader. the update to me is really only for TW roms because the stock ROMs are working just fine w/o the new boot loader.
