GPS battery usage - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi there I usually have the GPS off because I have the idea it is a battery killer does anyone know if this is true? How many hours does it take from battery time?

Mine only seems to turn on (and drain battery) when it's in use.

I use it a lot while driving and it only turns on and kill the battery while is in use. If it is turned on and non of your apps are using it it will be in stand by and the drain will not be huge but there will be some drain.

You're really not saving anything much by turning GPS off.

Unless your using an app that constantly is using gps tracking, you're not going to drain much of your battery. Now if your playing Ingress for example, that drains your battery very fast. If it is a continuous problem that your gps tracking is draining your battery, use an app called Screen Standby to keep your screen awake in a state that uses less battery. And possible purchase a portable charger, they are great in a pinch if you're not in a car or near a wall outlet.

Thanks guys!

Someone help with my battery please

Do I have that android bug or a bad extended battery? I've been doing heavy usage...not movie usage but texting...

There is nothing wrong with your phone or battery. It seems like your screen has been on around 2 hours. 50% battery loss is about avg. with 2 hours screen time.
There is also about 100 other battery threads. You should have posted there.
Yeah I know sorry. I'm just at work and didn't have time to search it

A while ago I gave 2x battery a plug, no it's not advertising to double your battery life, but many users, see market, sings it's praises, I've found it worked really well for me eg on standby battery only dropped 10% in 8 hours, all I'm saying is its worth a look given your considering juice defender

In 32 minutes, your screen has been on 30 minutes of that time, hence the high percentage... Nothing looks odd about that. If you think it is killing your battery, you should probably look elsewhere like not going to deep sleep, or constant syncing. Need to see better battery stats or cpu spy... If that is the concern.

Well, from your pics, it seems that your screen was on for 30 of the 32 minutes that your phone was on battery. Takes a lot of power to light up a display. Most folks can get by with a days worth of battery with 3-5 hours of screen on time. Some do better, some do worse.

Mophie juice pack

Got a mophie juice pack a couple of weeks ago. Has a 2300mha battery and is supposed to double my battery life, however will not fully recharge my phone from say about 30 percent. It will get it up to about 80 to 90 or so. This is with the phone on and low to moderate use. Curious what others are experiencing and if this is about right or if I need me a new one.

its not supposed to FULLY recharge your phone. if your phone is turned off while it charges, then yeah you'll get more juice out of it. I've been using the mophie case on my gs3 and havent had any problems.. when i'm at work at my battery is at 30% or so and i flip on my mophie case, it will get me up to about 80 or 90% with time.. which is enough to get me through work till i get home i'll also add that i use my phone at work alot lol
I use the 1500mah Powerskin and it goes about 30 to 50-60, so you are about right. Remember that you aren't just using the extra mah - it has to be converted up to 5v (with losses) to feed your charge port, then your phone's charging circuitry has additional losses. Probably 20-30% of the extra juice is wasted, no way to avoid that.

Mine is about the same. I have a bad habit in using the phone while it's charging by the juice pack. At least I can an make it through a full work day with heavy use. Shorter when tethering.

It's because when the juice pack is plugged in, the phone is in usb charge mode, not a/c mode. If you are rooted, and your rom supports usb fast charge, you should be good to go.

Good info

I enabled fast charge and made a big difference as far as charge speed, but got pretty warm. Not sure its too good for the phone or the case so probably going to just use it normally.

Battery drain issue

So I have my S3 Telus 4.3 and I've noticed that it's been experiencing a serious battery drain ever since android 4.1.2. And when I use the phone while it's on charge the battery starts to decrease. I have to keep it on charge for hours without using it until it finally charges to 100%. And when I use it afterwards it instantly goes from 100% to 76% in 10 minutes.
Anyone?

I had the problem of my phone being charging and my battery draining. Switching my micro USB cable fixed it.
If that doesn't help, try clearing cache and/or wiping data. Maybe your battery is almost dead. Try all the variables. In the end the S3 will have around 3 hours of screen on time, those are the facts.
I was unhappy with my battery life so I bought the ZeroLemon 7000mah battery from Amazon. Highly recommend.

Switching to micro-usb?
No, switching cables, so if you have a extra micro USB cable (the one you use to charge your phone) try charging your phone with that instead of the one you're using right now.
