Should be system/media/audio/ui and be named PowerOn.ogg. I'm not on that rom, but that's how most are.
well, I found the directory you told me to go to, placed the file made sure the name was PowerOn.ogg, tested to make sure the file actually plays, it does rebooted, no dice went back to the directory to make sure the file was still there, it was, also tried poweron.ogg just for kicks, still nothing, any other suggestions?

Some roms don't have the sounds enabled, I believe, but check the permissions, too.

First of kenny, I apologize, thank you for moving my thread to the proper location, 9wire, or anyone else for that matter is there a way to enable sounds if that is the case?

Im interested in making boot animations using movie clips, but im not sure where to start. I have book marked a few how-to's to get started (have to work in a min so ill read up later) but none of them seem to describe using a video in the boot animation. Any help would be great, thanks.
I am pretty sure it has to be a series of png's
Maybe you could find an app that can take the movie clip and split into a series of images? but then you would have to deal with extracting the audio and seems like it would be quite the headache!

+1 to this.
It DOES have to be a series of PNGs and it WOULD be a MAJOR headache!
I figured itd have to be a series of images, as for the audio I should be able to extract the audio as mp3 from the source. Syncing the 2 might be an issue. Any tools for making boot animations?

Ok, so ive got a bootanimation.zip and the mp3 file too, but i cant seem to push it to /system/customize/resource
Seems like i cant delete or write in this area...
I know im full root, and im using Android mate to root explore. Cant find an option to edit permissions for the folder.
Any ideas here, ive tried adb, 2 different boot animation changer script/programs, and using a file explorer.
Thanks guys

if using adb you have to give yourself SU first by typing adb shell then SU
if using root explorer, go to settings and then go to Root options (all the way to the bottom) and check Mount File System.
Hope that works! =D
btw, sometimes Root Explorer might be temperamental so you might have to uncheck and check again the box..
Make sure you zip file is in storage format. Make a flashable zip if you can much easier.
How do i go about making it a flashable zip?

I appreciate it and will try it out, but could someone maybe explain the process of creating a flashable .zip in general (i intend to do this for bootanimations & possibly splash screens) and if that process differs for bootanimation/splash screens.
What makes it flashable? Just the script? If so whats the syntax for the script?
Thanks again
Soon after I rooted my phone on launch day, I manually disabled the boot sound (unfortunately, I don't remember which method). Now, regardless of which ROM I flash, I NEVER have a boot sound. Can someone help me out and let me know how I can about troubleshooting this further?
I've tried the obvious, by checking if the ROM I'm flashing has one (it does), and looking through Root Explorer to add a mp3 in various places, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something very simple here?
you have to have a music file with the same name and format in the same location as in stock.
Same ROM's have different directory's for boot sound and animations. Check next two..
system/customize/resource (stock rom)
system/media (fresh & calkulin rom)
Edit: Btw I have try it, and does replace animation on Calkulin but still no sound... Which ROM are you using?

This may be my issue. I'm using CM7 (DESTROYED - link to forum below) so there is no system/customize directory. Can I just create it and put something in there? Does it need to be named specifically? android_boot.mp3???

See above - CM7 - Destroyed. I don't have an issue with the animations at all, just the boot sounds.
Stock file is called SPC_animation_final.mp3 but check witch someone who have same rom like you.

NO. You cant do that, must be specific (based on rom)
Tried to create system/customize/resource directory manually, copied the mp3 from system/media that came with the ROM and pasted into that new directory, renamed it android_audio.mp3 with no avail. Still no boot sound.
Tried renaming that to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and same result. Anything else I can try?

Will do - but realize this occurs regardless of which ROM I use. It's not ROM specific.
Thanks for the help all!
Try Fresh ROM, you should have sound saying "freshhh"
Sorry, I was thinking with Sense on my mind.

Really....wow. Was definitely not aware of that! I'll throw Fresh on there again tonight and see what I get. Maybe I've just had AOSP ROMS on there ever since. I thought I for sure tried out a few Sense, but maybe not.
Again - thanks to everyone. I didn't expect to get this much response. Really helps.

Yea, like they said, only sense roms have sound enable, no aosp, CM7 for example, support boot sounds.

How do I go about changing my boot animation for rooted OTA update. I've tried changing the boot animation.zip in /data/local.
If anyone could boint me in the right direction would be most appreciated.
have you tried pasting the bootanimation zip inside system/media.
P.s. you will see a folder named audio, DONT touch it
Tried the one in media with no success. :/

Does anyone even have any idea about how to do this?
What's the exact name of the Rom your using might help find the right spot for it. Who built it (virus,myn,mik,ect....) every bit of info helps.

From his first post it is HTC's 4.22.651.? OTA update and it seems to have been moved entirely as I tried while I was playing around with it to change the boot animation and it would not work for me either
Evo 4g running CM7 nightly 95
i just ripped that rom(supersonic_4.22.651.2_deodexed) apart and i found the bootanimation in system\customize\resource named SPC_bootanimation.zip

Sorry thought you were on 3.7, my bad. I believe he may be correct in the location, but also try
data/syscustomize/resource/
and do make sure you name it correctly with the underscore _ and not the . with lower case spc_bootanimation.zip . If you get the sound to work let me know, been trying for some time. Word is out that it needs to be named version11samelength.mp3 but I have had no success with either lower or upper case. But man do I have a sweet ani...eh D? lol

Nevermind there was a file there named that. Was just hidden for some reason. Just wrote over it with my custom bootanimation.zip and it worked. Thanks a bunch.

quick and dirty: is there a way to play a sound on boot?
I tried to place android_audio.mp3 file in /data/local but still no sound is being plaied.
Any clue?
Thx
Good question
It's a question I've been asking myself this very day.
Since there's no default sound, no way to know where to put the file or how to name it.
Any ideas?
It should be somewhere around system/media but no clue.

It is not enabled in the source code, no.
BAMF Paradigm has boot sound, however.
I've been wondering about the same thing for awhile now but could never find any information on it. I'm glad their working on a kernal to allow it. I started making a boot animation assuming sound was set.
I remember the newer MIUI builds having a sound on boot. Cool the first couple times, annoying after that.

I suppose we could flash the ROM and see where the sound file is located... That would be an option but i assume the sound file is packaged in the same .zip file as the animation itself...

My Galaxy Ace uses
bootsamsungloop.qmg
bootsamsung.qmg
I need the stock files to replace the O2 ones that are on my phone.
I also need the shutdown logos and a bit of help where to find those to replace them with the stock ones.
Bootanimation.zip never worked for me. I simply copy it from my SD card to system/media on the phone and reboot. My file manager recognizes that I have root access on my phone so i am prompted if I want to use RW access and accept.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Where can I also find the stock audio? Mine has been replaced by my carrier.
I know that this thread is old but, right now, I'm trying to change my Movistar startup animation. I've changed the shutdown.qmg and it's ok. The problem is that, after changing bootsamsung and bootsamsungloop, the device starts up well but the anim is like a corrupted video, with squares and lines with vivid colours.
Has another one got this? Are the originals files for a S5830i-2.3.6?
