I suspected that my Note 8 had some backlight bleeding and I just confirmed it using the "Backlight Bleed Test" app from the Play Store.
For those who want to test their own units, simply download and run that app. It will display a black background and also boost the brightness level to 100%. If you do this in a dark room then you may see the white backlight of your tablet shining through some of the edges or corners of your unit. If you do see this, then your tablet has backlight bleed.
When I tested my Note 8, I found some bleeding on two corners and also a faint glow down the left side of my screen (I tried taking a picture of it but couldn't get the lighting right). In my case the backlight bleed is not too severe, but it bothers me to know that it's there in the first place. I'm wondering if all our units have this issue, or if some are better than others...
So...does your Note 8 have any backlight bleed? If so, how bad is it?

Just tested mine , the bleeding was negligible , very slightly on the bottom and left side.Hope that helps.

That sounds just like what I have on mine, good to know. Thanks for your report, if others all have the same experience than at least we know the frequency and extent of the issue. Curious to see if others end up with the same results. XDA, please keep those reports coming

Just wanted to put my two cents in. I have a HTC amaze and the backlight bleed on that device is horrible. I have not tested mine, but I can tell you that I have not noticed any. So that means there is either very negligible or no backlight bleed on mine. In any case, I don't think it's anything to worry/complain about.

I tested another unit at Best Buy and it was slightly worse then mine. It looks like almost all units have some backlight bleeding, although nothing too bad when compared with other devices. Going to keep mine because I only notice it in extreme conditions (i.e. high brightness setting, dark background, dark room), and even then the effect is minimal. Thanks for the reports xda. Feel free to send in more reports if you have different test results with your Note 8.0.

I think that is the right play. This sounds like the kind of thing that will only bother you, if you go looking for it. Unless the bleed is excessive (which its not). I usually have my brightness at 40 or 50% in a bright room, and turn it down much lower than that in a dark room. I can maybe notice some slight bleed on the boot screen, but never noticed it any other time. So I'm going to do myself a favor, and not even go looking for a problem (by running the suggested app).

Becomes visible, but still not overly distracting, in low light on a black background when brightness is raised to a comfortable level for picture viewing. It's obvious with the combination of low light, black background, max brightness, as seen in the picture.

That's the same pattern as me, but a little more noticeable on yours. On my unit I can't see the bleeding on auto-brightness, and I only notice it in the lower-left corner and a bit at the bottom when it's a darker background/image and the brightness is turned up over 50%. After nearly two weeks of use it's fine for me, although I did try other units that had more noticeable bleed in different patterns that I would not have kept.
Got mine today and have some light bleed on bottom left corner and on the top side center. I wish it wasn't there, but it's not noticeable in normal usage. I have zero dead pixels, so I will just keep this one rather than try the exchange lottery.
I checked about 5 pieces of Note 8.0 today and all had some bleeding - some less than others. So I think this is an issue with all Note 8.0's. Some I tested before (and one today) also suffered from stuck pixel's... Anyway, I was able to find my self one without stuck pixels and not too bad bleeding

I have light bleed on the left side. I dont see it in normal use but with dark videos it shows pretty badly. It's not a deal breaker but it's a bit disapointing. Guess I'll have to try to avoid thinking about it.

That was just a screenshot and it didn't show it well
The picture from the phone over exaggerates it, but it is only noticeable with a dark background, on high brightness in a dark room

LEDs show through top edge above forward facing camera
A real problem is what my son has with his phone. This is being treated by Verizon as an actual defect.
Essentially we can see green LED's shinning through the top edge of the screen just above the forward facing camera.
please inspect your phone, we are getting this one replace on Thursday when they come out in stores officially.

I have to say the Sprint Galaxy SII has one of the best screens I have ever seen on a smartphone, especially when used outside. Most phones outside are near impossible to see in the daytime, but the Galaxy SII is actually usable and very sharp. And that is with the auto brightness off, keeping it at like 1/3rd it still easy to see. But I am talking mid day in Winter, not high noon on a July clear sunny day, all phones suck with that light.
Had the EVO 4G before this, and it is night and day a major leap forward in screen technology, even my Brother who loves his iPhone4, says he is very impressed with the vibrant colors, and deep blacks, and how clear the Galaxy SII looks, he admitted it is better than his "retina" display. My other Brother still has the EVO 4G, and when put next to each other on the desk, the phones don't seem like only a year apart in tech, they look like they 5 yrs different almost. The EVO 4G looks extremely dated next to the Epic 4G Touch.

I wish the resolution was higher, at least qhd 960 x 540. text on webpages at fully zoomed out is unreadable. also, at off angle (30 degrees off center), there's a progressively bluer tinge to whites and other lighter colors where as a comparison, dead center, there is a noticeably warmer color of white. dunno if anyone noticed but at the lowest brightness with screen filter app, there's a hatch pattern to the whites & greys (only noticed because i use the phone at night with the lights off).
besides that, the display is awesome.

I think you have a defective display dude, mine is perfect and trust me I'm picky as ****. Returned my first one cause it had some vertical gradient gray lines on darker backgrounds, exactly like you described, you could see them the best on low backlight. Also had some blue tinting going on whites as well. The replacement I got is beautiful.

The screen resolution can be forgiven for all the other positives.
Pretty much everyone I know has commented on the screen and admitted that it's better than their own. Two iphone users that I know drool over it and could give a crap about retina display compared to super amoled + I even pointed out how it's more pixelated than retina display, and they would take the trade off.
Compared it to a coworkers droid razr, and while the razr's screen has a better resolution, it's behind in all other aspects. The sgsii screen just looks so much more vibrant.

thanks for the suggestion, I will go check it out at the sprint store to see if other units have the same issue. just to clarify, your current phone doesn't get a blue tint to the whites as your tilt the phone?
My unit also has a very noticeable blue-to-yellowish hue to it (noticeable on whites especially) but I didn't think anything of it until now.
Hold it at one angle, pure white.
Hold it -+5 degrees, blue tint.
Hold it -+5 degrees the other direction, slightly yellow.
It doesn't really bother me that much seeing as the theme-ing I've done relies heavily on the use of blacks (beautiful, almost-zero power-consuming blacks).

LCD ripples is not on all One Xs but like half of them and i dont think its a problem just a trait of one of the LCD sources, it doesn't ripple on the ones i tested unless u try very intentional pressure on the sides of the device
my cousin's one x been running for a week more than me, the screens are nearly 95% identical except mine is a little more yellow, both warm calibrated
since i opened mine yest, yellow white is getting less and less and more even, im anticipating to match my cousin phone, i think its just the lamination glue mate settling in
will confirm later if my theory is right
iphones used to have this kind of problems..it went away after the phone has been used for a couple days

I have mentioned this elsewhere but after seeing so many HTC One Xs, the colour temperature of the display varies very much from unit to unit. I had one that was pinkish, one that was yellowish, one that was greenish, one that was bluish. And they even vary how they perform at high brightness and low brightness scenes. I just think its a lottery which one you get. I don't think the tolerances are very tight. It may change as it ages. I am not sure if glue is relevant to this type of panel. It is more likely the "white" LEDs changing slightly in the first 50 odd hours of use. Also, you should take a photo from a camera with a fixed white balance setting now then at 1 week, then 2 weeks etc. It may just be that you are getting used to it, so a photo record will be useful for that.
thanks for the encouraging replies. we will see if the yellowish warm color of the screen will be normal in time.. by the way the screen is outstanding even with the yellowish problem.. what more if its corrected.

sorry mate im a CG artist my eyes never fail, all the four bought yest serial HTC242 taiwan had a warm yellow hue, except the week older one which the exact the same but whiter
and i already see changes to the hue as it is LED, glue, whatever is definitely also the white is a lot more even now

So after reading that the reason that the super amoled screen was used in the GS3 was for "longevity".. I read somewhere in the comments that the SAMOLED+ screens suffer from some image burn... but wait... my phone has one of those....
Then I recalled that over the past few days I noticed that the top of the screen of my phone has been "shaded" a bit... so i whipped it out.. found a white picture and and sure enough. right at the top where the status bar is... it's shaded a bit. it's very faint right now... but it's definitely darker than the rest of the screen...
thoughts? anyone else experiencing this?
I don't have that problem (yet) but I was wondering if its covered under warranty?

Yup. It happens. The pixel inactivity seems to be the culprit.
Happened on my nexus s sporting an amoled display and I figured it was bound to happen to the gs2. And of course, it has.
Its one of those things you don't really notice unless youre looking for it, though. So just don't think about it and enjoy the phone.

If he's anything like me, once its there that's all hell see, like a scratch on the screen or a bad ding on the phone. Once I noticed the crooked screen on my evo3d, it drove me nuts. Actually I just checked and I also have a slight discoloration along the top of the screen.

Happened to the status bar of my og epic.
Since I've had my et4g, I have made sure to go full screen mode whenever possible (go launcher settings). So far haven't noticed any burn in.
This is also the reason why I still prefer GB over ics's designated onscreen buttons(maybe I'm just paranoid). Not to mention, more screen estate for viewing pleasure.
OLED technology from day 1 was a burn in technology. Unlike LCD's (and LED-LCD's, LED TV's are used in billboards not your house) with a black light shining through colored pixels which are darkened by liquid crystal which are subject to total backlight failure, age. The component of OLED has a lifespan on a per pixel basis.
Blues over all the various OLED tech's have the shortest lifespan. My laptop has an OLED display on it for information its a Teal color and its rather toasty
Yeah it's real simple to see if you want into any store with some smartphones on display that use OLED... those screens are destroyed most of the time

On OLED you actually want to display an inverse image of whatever is burned in. You need to burn the rest of the pixels to match the current state. White would probably still have a decent effect but I am not 100% certain. I have a really cruddy LCD that I have to do that for its really weird.

Happened to me. I can see the outline of my keyboard after I send a message and the keyboard goes down. It kinda makes me sad but that's normal I guess.

If you have TEP, this is a defect covered by TEP. Therefore you should be able to walk in to a repair shop and show it to a manager. Now I am afraid it is going to do it to me. Somehow, as I use the official rom, the auto brightness setting begins to get set so low that I cant read it. So I would have to go manually set it all the way up and then turn on the automatic brightness.

If you don't leave the screen on for unnecessary periods of time showing one thing you will be better off. I don't know if the guy with the dock or the dock itself has the screen not turning off. But having it display a static menu especially on high brightness for very long periods of time will destroy it quick.
Watching video for example is very random on wear and would not show up like a menu. Would average in wear like any other use.
I downloaded this and it works. Touch your screen to change the colors. Fortunately, my screen is good to go.

The samsung dock app didn't let the screen turn off while it was docked.
I'm not sure if that is still going on with it, but I switched to alarn clock plus app. It dims and then moves around the clock a little bit every few minutes to avoid having the image in the same place causing burn in.

I just noticed this today on mine. I am too lazy to go in and try to get a sprint guy to see what I see and get a replacement. Kind of alarming though because my phone is only 6 months old...
My girlfriends old fascinate had this issue. Was pretty annoying but my epic touch seems fine for now. I heard not turning up the brightness real high helps.

I'm on my 5th unit at it has light bleed and dead pixels. All 5 of the units I've bought had atleast 1 dead pixel. Only 1 had light bleed.

I just bought a N7 32GB , no multitouch issues , light bleeds , just one dead pixel on the bottom of the screen (just on the navigation bar) , I decided to RMA it as they said that the devices will be checked , and maybe replaced , now I am afraid that if they replace it ,I will get a device with other problems ..or a dead pixel in the middle of the screen which is so much worse then the current location of the pixel ...
And its a september build device..

I'm not sure why so many are having problems with their N7. I bought mine on the release date and have had no problems with it. No touch issues. No GPS issues. No screen issues.
Well .. i looked at the display(when off) with a flash light from my phone.. and its not a dead pixel , but a dark dot between the panel and the glass..
how do you check the built date?

I have a dark blue smear when on a black background, the smear is about 5mm diameter, but it didn't bother me too much since it doesn't show up while on lighter backgrounds, can't be bothered to go through all the replacement process and have a risk of getting a worse replacement with touch issues.

The first couple days after buying mine I had no light bleed, but after about a week I have light bleed in the same area and of approximately the same magnitude as you. Has anyone else experience the light bleed problem increasing over time?
Did you put a case on it before it started ?
My mom bought herself Galaxy Note 10.1 ,and a cheap case for it, when i checked the screen i noticed really bad light bleeds , i mean REALLY bad , so i removed the case and immediately it became much better , after a few days we got an original Samsung case for it which didn't make the same effect as the cheap case.. but this Samsung regular quality , cheap plastic that bends and makes noises to the touch , the N7 build quality is so much better so maybe its not the case .
No light bleed for me but one dead pixel. The screen is so dense you can hardly see it, only when you look for it is it visible. Great device other than that

I have noticed that applying pressure on the screen makes the light bleed worse. So you may be on to something.

I am the person who started this thread.
I posted this thread since I found 3 blue big stuck pixels, 1 tiny white stuck pixel, and minor light bleeds with a significant but little leakage at the back button spot. All of these were found under dark room when displaying black. Sorry I got no camera good enough to shoot under the dark condition.
The tiny white stuck pixel is nearly invisible. About 3pixels big.
Light bleed bothers me a bit but it is almost unrecognizable.
Blue stuck pixels are the weird ones. Even though they are relatively big, they can be only seen when displaying black. Cannot be seen in any other colors. What would these be?
Also I bought my nexus7 in the eBay. This means that I have to pay for shipping back if I want a refund. Also there is no guarantee that I am not getting a worse one. Should I ask for an exchange?
Sorry my words may sound like a total gibberish. This happens to be a lot whenever I am writing with a mobile device

When I first used my N7, I checked the screen very carefully for light bleed and found none. Now, 4 days later light bleed is starting to appear along the top of the screen. Is this common? Should I expect the light bleed to continue to increase?
If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Samsung Galaxy S7's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.

Love the phone but the display has a strong blue tint. The white is OK only when looking perpendicular at the phone, anything more than 5 degrees angle and it's getting a blue tint.
Not sure if it's worth replacing whit a new one, I compared mine with some others in stores and all are about the same. Only the edge has better colors at angles.

I aggree with you about the blue tint . In my phone is also visible but not that strong.
But in general it has the best display i ever saw in a phone!
I don't know what you all are talking about because when I was shooting a video outside the colors on my screen were so close to the actual colors of the things I was recording that it was crazy. Closer then any other phone I have ever used. Period. Not commenting on the rest of the stuff, but I was impressed with that
Just open Google page in your browser then look at it perpendicular and increase the angle slowly. Mine is getting blue tint pretty fast.

Color saturation and accuracy are good and can be adjusted in the display settings, the only minor problem I have is color shifting when tilting the phone more than 20 degrees like the problem stated above. When it comes to screen uniformity on white and grey? Well I have been through 2 unit replacements before I finally got a uniformed screen without the pink tint on some part of the screen when viewing whites and greys.
It varies from phone to phone so it isn't something that is going to be standardized across all phones.

Does your white get a blue tint at angles ? I see it on mine everywhere, on icons, text, etc. It's uniform but annoying.

I tried to capture how are my colours. Photos taken with an nexus 5. Look at that orange... That was supposed to be red. That is how I see the red when I look perpendicular on the phone. Photo is taken at an angle because perpendicular shots show both phones red, not true.
The white is blue tinted at angle on s7, less intense white / grey on angle ( not pink ) on g4.
The s7 is in the box, I'll exchange it tomorow. I found one on display in another store and it had perfect collors at all angles, to bad it's not my store. If the next one has issues I'll ask for the money and buy from that other place.
Everything else was perfect on this phone, damn amoled lottery
9h sot, perfect Wi-Fi and gsm signal; the audio is mediocre at best, but I could live with that.

The blue tint is a byproduct of having amoled screen.
Not like it is on mine. I compared it with other s7's, one was about as bad and the other was perfect. On mine it's impossible to use the phone 5 minutes and not notice. Just tilting the phone a little (<5°) and the blue is visible. Normally the blue appears at much bigger angles, and I'm ok with that.
Anyways, no excuse for that " red. "

On white screens my s7 has a warm tint when looking directly at it, but If I pan to the side or something it'll look crisp white.
I got the new one today. It has the same bright orange for red but the white is a little better. I still see the blue tint but not as strong as the other one and starts at a bigger angle.

Just yesterday evening I noticed display is not uniform, the top part is a bit pinkish when displaying white, and the bottom is a tad greenish/yellowish (it's barely noticeable).
There's a big problem though when showing grey/dark blue (like the settings menu when using the "Material Dark" theme ):
About 1/3 of the screen (top part) is very dark compared to the much lighter bottom 2/3 of the screen.
I'm gonna call warranty tomorrow and try to get a replacement, unfortunately Samsung's importer in my country don't have very good customer service so I'm afraid they won't agree to replace it.
(btw I found a whole thread with ~100 pages on the S6 with the exam same problem I'm experiencing).

All I'm going to say is good luck getting one that's perfect. I was part of the s6 thread. People ended up getting worse units.
Samsung's AMOLED has come a long way since the first generation and it is now really comparable to IPS (or even better)
I would actually prefer the blue tint if ever, however mine has a yellowish tint (only on white) and it kind of annoys me.
I find the LightManager app useful to adjust tint.

mine actually got very warm display, especially with 'basic' setup. Adaptive is much better, but the screen looks oversaturated.
It has quite a strong pink tint when viewing perpendicular. The slightest tilt in any direction turns it into a light green tint.
The red test screen, seen from a 45deg angle shows orange as in the picture some posts before mine.
Looks like the red OLEDs are quite unreliable. They seem to have a narrower angle than the blue and green ones. Compensation of this effect turns the units either into pink or blue tinted items.
Difficult to deal with this behaviour as a sensitive photographers eye. Just ordered a second unit to compare it with.
Kind of longing back to my 4 year old lovely yellow warm tinted S4.
