[Q] Request Permission for Account {google account} - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I frequently get a notification in the drop down shade that says:
Triangle with !
Request permission
for account {mygmail account}
There is no indication what program has generated this request. Clicking the notification makes it simply go away.
How can I determine what program is causing this behavior?

try long pressing on the notification and click app info. if it works like any other notification it will take you to app manager in settings and show you which app it is. also did you happen to change your gmail password online and not your phone? i have had that happen when a work gmail password expired.

Thanks. App info said it was Google Tracks. Not sure why though.

Hi, did you get any further with this? I'm getting the same error with MyTracks.

Re-auntheticate with Google account if you have enabled "Sync to Google Drive"

This is sometimes seen by me when I restore an app from Helium or Titanium after flashing a new ROM, where the app has some settings where we map it to a Google service. In this case I had enabled "Sync to Google Drive" in the Google My Tracks app's settings. I disabled this option and re-enabled it again, and was prompted by Google's authentication engine letting me know that this app can access stuff from my Google Drive and the triangle and the warning never came back.

Uninstalled launcher and keyboard :x

I'm using a rooted HTC One V (CDMA).
So, in screwing around with Titanium Backup, I managed to uninstall my only launcher and keyboard. I thought doing a factory reset might fix it, but I now realize that only made it worse by logging me out of my Google account, therefore making me unable to download another launcher and/or keyboard via Google play. I am able to get into the settings by dragging down the status bar, and I can still use voice input, but the voice input is not allowing me access to my Google account, because it doesn't recognize my speech clearly enough to enter my username and password into the accounts page to access Google Play. Any thoughts?

Stock. I figured it out though. I sent myself a text of my Google username and password and I was able to copy it from the text to the accounts section of settings under Google. From there, Play popped a notification saying updates were available. I was able to get into play from the notification and downloaded Nova Launcher and Swype. I'm back to full functionality. Thanks!

[Q] Problem with Facebook Authorziation Popup

I am not exactly sure when this started happening but lately I cannot get any app to authorize my account on facebook. For example, I installed sycn.me and when I try to use it, it asks me to login and after logging in, I get a prompt with all the permission details and there is OK and Cancel button but I cannot click on either one. I tried disabling the Facebook app but even the web popup has same issue. I have tried several different apps that rely on facebook permissions and all have same issue with the popup. The apps that have already been authorized, work without an issue. So I don't think that it's an issue with authorization but the authorization detail popup.
Does anybody has any solution for this?

New Note - Playstore not working

Hi,
I just bought my wife a new Verizon Note 4. I was getting it all set up and it seems to work well, but I am having a problem getting in to the playstore. I have her google account all set up and all of her email has come in, but when I go to the playstore, I get the waiting icon and a white screen. I've tried killing the playstore app and restarting the phone, and nothing's working. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks
Delete data in play store app. Most likely you missed or it didn't present that popup to accept the terms for the play store. Delete data in app manage and see if it gives you the pop up when you log in and accept.

Screen Overlay woes

I'm using Yahoo Mail for my Yahoo account but each time I try to allow Yahoo Mail to access my contacts, I get the following error message:
Screen overlay detected.
To change this permission setting, you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps. I did just that in the Settings > Apps screen but it keeps re-enabling itself! Is this a bug or what? I can't change any of my permission settings for any of my other apps either.

It isn't a bug, but it is a confusing message, which some might consider sub-optimal.
You need to go into
settings->apps->gear icon->draw over other apps
and look for every app that says "Yes"
For any app that isn't from Google, write the app name on a piece of paper, tap on the app name, and then disable "Permit drawing over other apps"
Then go back and run your mail app and you'll be able to accept the permissions it is requesting.
Then go back to
settings->apps->gear icon->draw over other apps
take the list of apps you earlier disabled this permission for, and enable it again, if you feel it is appropriate.
The reason it is happening is because you have an app running that is currently overlaying stuff on your screen. Google can't tell if that is a legitimate app or it is a malicious app trying to gets you to click on other things or stealing your keystrokes.
Before, they just never warned about it. Starting with June update, there was a bug where you couldn't press accept for permissions, only deny.
In July security update, they changed that to give you a warning that there is a screen overlay running and they can't continue.
IMO it is still confusing to the end-user.
I think I found the culprit. It was Omni Swipe causing it to pop up.
This thing is so freaking annoying. I've switched to "no" every single app (including system ones), whatsapp web qrcode scanning feature asking for additionnal camera feature gets stuck with this damn overlay thing.

How Is this possible?

I have uber cab application on my phone. I have restricted the background application working and disabled the mobile data access in background and this app is still sending notification on my phone. How is this possible? What are these settings for if they are not restricting the apps? It means app is still working in background.

Optimize doesn't mean it will stop bringing notifications in background or doesn't mean it wont work at all in background. The interval for checking the notifications maybe reduced.
Use greenify if you want to completely stop background activities.
If i have restricted the background data access, hows the app sending me notification without internet?
Whenever i do this to other apps like Instagram, i dont receive any notification from that app. Its just uber

The thing with Instagram is weird, background data access has nothing to do with notifications. Notifications are sent from the app server (in this case Uber's) to Google servers and Google in turn send them to you. If you want to stop receiving notifications you can disable them, but not as background data access, what you can do is long press the notification and then press "Turn off notifications" and then you can choose to turn off the channels that you don't want. That should do it.
I dont wanna sound rude but thats not what i asked. How can uber send the data to Google in the background if it doesn't have access to Internet?

The thing is, Uber doesn't send it from your phone to Google, it sends it from their server which is most likely on the cloud (AWS, Google Cloud or any other) directly to Google, so you can disable background data all you want, but that won't stop them from sending you notifications until you disable the notification itself.
When you said that you "have restricted the background application working and disabled the mobile data access in background" the only thing you did is stopping the app from doing any work when it is not open but only ON YOUR PHONE, the Uber server and services are still running and they will keep sending notifications to all their clients.
When you restrict an app what the system does is to permit activity for that app only when in use or at system wakeups (app standby)
But if you use that app frequently, then the system tags it at different levels (active, frequent, no frequent...). Regarding the tag, more or less often it will sync during programmed system intervals.
https://developer.android.com/topic/performance/appstandby
Uber could be using firebase clouding, wich is a server-client service to send notifications to clients (app installed).
If you do not want NOTHING then you will have to disable the app and only enable when you are going to use it.
