I have Xperia Arc S (Lt18i)..
Installed Atomic GB 7, and I noticed that the TOTAL RAM (free+used) is only 250MB..
Is it normal depending the apps I used?
Previously, using the same apps combination, using Xperia Ultimate HD 3, the TOTAL is 350MB..
Emm something wrong?
Emm, btw, I modded this ROM :
- the framework and systemUI, decompiled it and recompiling again..
- I deleted many, really many system apps.. This is what I remember :
* GoogleCalendarSync
* CoreNotificationPublisher
* NotificationsProvider
* ContactsImport
* Gmail
* Talk2
* Textinput
* Widgets
* AudioEffectService
* etc
Does this 2 factors affecting the TOTAL RAM?
Screenshots in the attachment..
Please help guys..
Did you installed the Atomic GB's Arc S patch? http://d-h.st/DVY
I think you did a mistake while flashing rom or missed something. I use atomic v7 with stock kernel on my arc, total ram is about 320-330mb and there is no lag. Flash stock ftf and root & cwm then try re flashing rom with reading installation.
The arc S patch is already there.. Emm, btw, I modded this ROM :

Then you should have stated that in your OP, so the fact that others aren't having the same problems, the issue is YOU, and without listing every change you have made, it's kind of hard to help you figure out your experimentation.
First you need Root Explorer app. Go to C:\System\apps folder. Press the "Mount R/W" button on the upper right side of the screen. Delete apps you don't need. For example Gmail or Exchange service.
Warning: Don't delete apps you don't know what they are. The most critical apps are there and if you delete them you're device may misbehave.
Why don't you want to switch to JB? There you have still ~300 Mbyte RAM, and your phone is much smoother (just my opinion).

What you were explaining is to increase the size of ROM but not the RAM.. CMIIW..

Yes, I mean the RAM.. not internal memory.. I stated in the OP, I deleted many system apps already.
Is JB worth to try? Is it smoother than stock GB? I hardly can believe that JB is smoother, because naturally JB needs dual core and 1GB ram..

i tried JB once before and never wanted to try it anymore. Maybe because i chose wrong/still underdevelopment ROM. :laugh:
I can't say which one is smoother though as it really depends on what apps you have.
Personally i use the UHD ROM by jader13254 and it's working really good and smooth.
Android uses some of the RAM, you just don't see it.
I recommend controlling your app's autoruns, can be modified in Autorun Manager or Autostarts in Playstore. there's no problem in removing system apps. I uninstalled also Market Updater, Search Applications Provider(20MB Ram-used for ads, recommendations to you by play store), AccessoryKeyDispatcher, i don't remember others
Apps I also removed but not really advisable: Customization Settings, DownloadAgent, UserAgentProvider, Customized App Installer
or If you want higher ram, adjust vm.dirty_ratio=70, vm.dirty_background_ratio=50, vm.vfs_cache_pressure=10. (higher ram but laggy, i recommend dirty_ratio to be 95 and dirty_background_ratio=60)
I have LT15i and my phone can play Dungeon Hunter 4, Bladeslinger, MC4 with no lag and no oc.

As you know, in galaxy s when we install 4-5 page programs , lags is appear
The touchwiz launcher is lagy too and when we Turn pages the lags is apear
I decompile touchwiz.apk and i explore folders and in res folder i saw few folders that named xxxx-xxxx-1024x600 and i guess this names means 1024x600 pixel like galaxy tab and samsung create a touchwiz that could be use in galaxy s and galaxy tab!
I decided to deleted that folders had a 1024x600 in the last of name and i compile apk and push it to galaxy and i see that is work lagless and very fast and smooth
I made an update.zip of this modified touchwiz and upload in attachment
Guys you can test it and leave Comments on this topic
I forget something
I change the homescreen_menu_shortcut_bg.png with glass one and you can see in pic
What firmware versions does this work on?
Does it overwrite the default TouchWiz?
Is it compatible with any Lagfixes?
this launcher is last version of touchwiz that used in jpm/jp6 roms and must work on any version of roms
yes , this launcher is compatible with any lagfixes
I am sorry, what has been changed from default?
Lowered the resolution or something?
i think you should work with the guy that did the TW mod script:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792817
together you can hack tw and make it work better
Just flashed it via CWM on Voodoo-Doctor-Edition-JP6 and seems to be lagless flipping between pages. G8 job!
Amazing!!!!!!!!
It works!!!!!! Great Work!!!! This launcher is more fast, even using various widgets and an animated desktop. Thanks!!!!

No, based on what he wrote, he deleted icons and textures for use on Galaxy Tab. I wonder if it really does make it faster, though.
No effect here. Still laggy as hell.
EDIT: maybe it's because I'm using a lagfix? I have 5 pages of apps. Not that much if you ask me :S
Can you guys still uninstall apps from the drawer?
Last time I replaced TWlauncher I had lost this ability.
interesting.....
I recommend editing the LauncherConfig.java class to enable the fly in effect when opening the app menu, pretty nice.

My attachement contains a classes.dex which has the ability to uninstall (non system) apps from homescreen + fly in effect.
Remove .apk and .odex first, then push this to system. I always switch to an other launcher before doing that..
@Spike_M
When I delete all folders with 1024*600 in the name, apktool gives some errors..
On reboot touchwiz doesn't load - it gives me a fc error: The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.
How do I go back to the original touchwiz?

Do you have adb enabled? Otherwise you have a problem..
I have adb installed, but my pc won't detect the phone when plugged in via usb.
It seems like the only solution is to flash another update.zip via recovery. An update.zip of the original touchwiz should work, if someone would be kind enough to put one together. I wouldn't know where to start...
Edit: or is there a way to install an apk via the recovery menu? Long shot, I know. I was thinking installing LauncherPro would bypass the fubar'd tw.
i use modified launcher and its work like a charm
for those guys want to get back original touchwiz
1- download update.zip in attachment and copy it to your internal memory
2- instal it from recovery 2e or cwm recovery

Thanks but I can't access the internal memory of my phone. Now what?
Tw launcher is definately faster now. Try pinch to zoom and see! It even made me consider reverting from launcher pro.. Great fix, thanks!
its not 100% perfect but youre as close as ive ever seen anyone come so far!
damn nice fix!
I think I noticed an small improvement with that fix: 55apps installed (6 pages in app drawer), but there is still some lag...
By the way I'm really glad that there is people trying to improve the performance of TW. I really like TW but the app drawer is laggy I'm still using froyo stock launcher...
About this ROM
This ROM is all about battery, performance and stability. GioPro, SimpliGio, and Sgg dt have many tweaks which are not working due to syntax errors. While some others may work but are not optimized for our Gio. Don't get me wrong. They are great roms! But I hope I can correct what I feel they did wrong.

I am currently asking people for help on how I can keep a2sd on start.
However a2sd can be found here

Please, no default ROM manager. There are users who brick their phones using ROM manager, apparently without doing stupid things. Please see here: http://s5660.pl/temat-martwy-gio
forum is in polish, but google translate will do a good job
And if I'm allowed, please let me tell what I would like to see on a "generic" custom rom:
- rooted;
- root explorer integrated;
- deodexed;
- phone should not be unlock by menu (power) button + left touch button (as with gio versions);
- safe tweaks to memory;
- a2sd installed but not activated (I don't like logs full of errors from a2sd);
- GUI: icons from GIOpro_v3, CRT animation, unlock buttons from simplygio (the round blue-red ones, with a sharp corner) - or a separate theme (maybe editable by userd) that can be applied;
- default: launcher (can be changed by user, no big deal), music player, no app that can be installed simply from market or internet.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and (the most important!) your work with us!
Screenshot Please.
I also would like to not to have unlock by menu option.
Screenshots coming!
Do you guys mind I replaced the default messaging mms.apk with Go SMS Pro? Since there happens to be a bug in mms.apk on every Gio that makes the keyboard appear relatively slower.
v1.4 will feature Touchwiz launcher again, removed CWM

Go SMS Pro is free on the market, and removing mms.apk is easy with root explorer, isn't? I don't think you should bother replacing the default one.
In place, I propose to do something like Slax:simple updates that can be applied over the ROM, to add (or change) functionality.
so, for example, there should be one update to replace the default messaging application with Go SMS Pro.
is-it reasonable? it should help you to release a clean bug-free ROM, and users will not flash the whole system over and over again. IMHO this will be great.

Root Explorer suckes in my opinion...
Try looking for Advanced Tools (free)
It has a built in task manager which is able to see everything. Not just running programs, even the acore etc...
The file explorer is far superior to those I have seen. You also have like 4 tabs.
A build.prop editor is also in it.
If you guys want I will release a quick fix with just the Mms.apk and touchwiz30launcher.apk back in action. But I am actually working on ext2 conversion and support for /cache /data and /system for our phone... So far it works, I have Quadrant score of 1600

Advanced Tools is looking good, but I did not test-it enough (yet).
1600 on Quadrant is quite a good score, it just tell us that you are on the right way!
I understand that at this moment moving/extending some folders on the sdcard is the hardest part. What happens with the system when card is connected as storage on the PC? Only fat32 partition is unmounted? More...I'm almost sure that the speed of sdcard is inferior to the speed of internal storage, so moving everything on the card will slow-down the phone. Installing conventional linux on sdcard/usbstick is not recommended: usual read-write cycles of the OS wear the sdcard/usbstick very fast.
So, imho, only the storage folder of android OS should be moved.
I still vote for a minimum modified ROM, that will allow any other modification with only "updates" and simple file replace/edit on the OS.
and another thought: "free RAM is useless RAM",
in other words: internal memory of the phone should not be as empty as possibly... (it's like you have a fast car in the garage but you use a slow and hungry cart to drive)
GT-S5660M ?
Will this work on the Samsung GT-S5660M
This is apparently slightly different version that is sold in Canada by Bell and Virgin Mobile. This thread explains more about the differences
If I5660XXKQB works for your phone then this one will work as well.
My personal opinion is every model has its own firmware. For the best experience of your phone and the least bugs, you should use your own phone's firmware for your safety.
But I remember I5800 and I5801 being fully compatible with eachother. But this wasnt the case for I5000 and I5000L for example. Honestly I don't know it is you having that phone !

This is highly dependent on the ROM in what codebase is it using [be it ICS, JB, Gignergread whatever], what apps it installs, what is in use when you check the free RAM, what you check as free RAM [some apps count the cached data as RAM, some give you the direct free RAM]. What apps you had in your /data if you did not wipe it. Etc Etc Etc
This is very subjective to just ask for and hard to give a direct answer on.
For instance I am running ParanoidAndroid and have around 135 apps and right now I just ran Fast Engine Flush [a script found in Supercharger V6 search XDA it is super popular and easy to find]. it is stating I have 163M of true free RAM [not counting cache].
If you want to try download Supercharger V6 script [don't worry about any modifications to services.jar or anything else talked about I am not having you do a supercharge on your device just run it, and when you get through the settings walkthrough [just say no to run on boot to any scripts [first run runs through like install type options],
Once you see the main menu put in the number for Fast Engine Fush and hit enter when prompted. After running it from inside script you can use script manager to got to /sdcard/Supercharger_V6 and set a shortcut right to fast engine flush [I use Script manager widget on my home screen even]
That way it not only can tell you how much RAM you have it clears out the stuff in use that is not needed and if you set it on home screen you can tap it there anytime to just clear the RAM [say right before playing a game] for the best performance [memory wise].
Hey guys, there are several application in Play Market that are either related to a specific kernel (a manager app) or a ROM (like Darky's ROM app from the days of Gingerbread and Froyo), or useful apps like ROM Toolbox
But how many apps of that kind are there and how are they named?
What I suggest is to create a full list of such applications, divided into few categories like "Kernel specific", "ROM specific", "ROM customization", and so on.
Only ones I know are:
ROM Manager (and the PRO version)
Goo.im manager
ROM Toolbox (and the PRO version)
TricksterMod (for kernel management)
Direct Play Market links for the apps are also welcome
I think this is a great idea. But you might want to include the creator/developer for each as well.

Nope, because "root app" is meaningless except being a prerequisite.
Although above post has some point I'll chime in with some very useful apps:
-Greenify It lets you hibernate apps when screen is off to save battery.
- Systemcleanup. Helps a lot to update system apps and eliminate them also. It's also good to clean cache.
- Orange backup. Makes nandroid backups without having to reboot to recovery and also has the ability to upload them to google drive etc... It has support for both TWRP and CWM.

Hello,
I'm using baliboxer's GENNXT ROM (Build num: XUBMHD, Baseband Version XUBMF2) in my GT-I9082
I've just installed very minimum user apps( 651 MB out of 4GB intrenal memory, this includes GAPPS too) and i've not installed a single game.
I'm using ROM ToolBox Pro to define the apps that has to be run on the background( which,i believe,is similar to using 'Greenify')
But my device eats up too much RAM to the extent that i do not even find 100MB of free RAM space out of 804MB.
This makes my device too laggy and i cant navigate gallery and camera app (though no FC in any of the app).
I'm a complete noob, so plz guide me to make my device better.
Waiting for ur suggestions guys!!!

Firstly, you can and you should "Turn off"/disable, if not uninstall, any app like SVoice, Samsung Apps, Google+ etc that you don't use (please dont remove the apps without icons/names like com.Something, that you don't know what it does), even if they came preinstalled with the ROM. You can do this by going to Settings>Applications>swipe to the right till you are on All Applications, just scroll through here and disable them if you dont need them. This will let them be in your system without letting them start up at all by any app until you enable it.
Secondly, ROM ToolBox is NOT similar to Greenify. ROM Toolbox is a heavy app with a LOT of triggers that can make itself run all the time in your phone. ROM Toolbox does offer you to select permission alteration for each app, but it doesn't actually stop them after they are executed already, which is why I avoid installing ROM Toolbox now, but that's just my opinion.
This is something Greenify beautifuly covers. You can select all apps, (excluding the one you use to keep you updated like Phone, messaging, whatsapp, googleplay etc). They will have smooth unaltered functionality when you open them but they will not run in the background (which is the main reason for your RAM usage). And best of all, Greenify only uses 3.7~4Mb RAM to keep your apps in check with no triggers except to start a process on boot.
You can use several memory cleaners but honestly you won't need them if you do both the above things right.
if you still need more, you can check out my thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476926
