The drivers never installed so I don't think there was anything to install.
How would I check/do that?

Waiting for device
My Kindle Fire is also having problems. It is rooted and was running ICS for some time. I tried to make some changes, installing another ROM, and now it won't boot into the ROM or recovery. I get the original "Kindle Fire" splash for a few seconds and then nothing. I've tried the KFU but it just says "Waiting for device". It won't connect. I've tried to reinstall the drivers, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?
I just ended up starting the install for KFU on a different PC and the drivers installed fine.
I didn't end up going any further with the root because I'm catching up on some Arrested Development episodes using Amazon Prime while I have the free month.
I may go ahead and do it since I could presumably unroot to watch the vids but I've heard of that not working for some.
What I had to do to get my computer to recognize my Kindle Fire is install the drivers with the Kindle not plugged into the computer. After the drivers installed I connected it and it worked perfectly. Not sure if this will help but thought I would put it out there.
Didn't work
Thanks for the tip. It didn't help though. Appreciate your help.
My brother just attempted to root his kindle with the kfu. He rooted his kindle, and he changed his wallpaper with kfu as well. After this, he put root check on his kindle after some issues with mounting as read write using root explorer. It turns out, his kindle was NOT rooted, after changing the wallpaper witht kfu, which NEEDS root access, and even after redoing the process of installing another root on his kindle.
What should he do? My kindle was rooted manually, but since kfu came out, no manual instructions are really available. If we have to root manually, what commands do i need to use and whatnot?
Thank you for your time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have fff and twrp, you should be able to install custom roms on it now.

If you want to keep the stock look then you can flash MoDaCo. Otherwise there are plenty of ICS and CM7 roms you can use.

I'm having problems getting my computer to recognize the kindle fire in fastboot mode. i have tried to root my device for around a week.
also i am getting a screen on kfu that says,
Fastboot uses a different device than ADB. You should check device manager for 'Kindle" or "Amazon"
If you see it, rerun the driver installer that came packaged with KFU
Installing FFF
<waiting for device>
Then i go to device manger and i see Kindle. after that i rerun the driver install that came packaged with kfu.
I get this error message
Cannot complete the device driver installation wizard. errors were encountered while installing the software for your devices. See the status column for more details
Sometimes it helps to run this wizard again. If that doesn't work, contact your device vendor
Driver name | status
X Google, inc (winUSB)... | Install failed (unsigned)
i run the driver installer and it still doesnt work. i've already changed the settings on my computer so it can install unsigned drivers.
I have no idea what to do.
i have an asus eee pc 1000ha with windows xp home. hope that info helped

I have searched for a guide to manually root the kindle fire. i havent found one. is there a wayy to manually root the kindle fire with software 6.3.1? and install fff and twrp? i am familiar with cmd but not sdk.
Any help? Thanks

On your EeePC look under devices and find a device called "Android Phone", "Kindle Fire" or something to that effect that is using the WinUSB drivers. Uninstall it and you will be able to reinstall the drivers from the KFU/Drivers folder.
Thank you so much helped out a lot

Your going to need to either buy or make a factory cable so you can get into fastboot mode
Just to confirm, are you using the same PC that you used to Root your Kindle Fire with? In other words, have you used ADB with this PC before? If it is, then a Factory cable is I believe the only way out.
You can try to make one, or I piked one up on eBay for £3 including delivery. I have read of someone destroying one of the pins on their Kindle due to connecting the wrong wires up, so be careful and take your time doing it. Double check everything.
We could do with a step by step guide for recovering a Kindle in a loop, as there doesn't seem to be one and they seem to be getting soft bricked quite often at the minute.
Have anyone Ebay Link for my i want to buy factory cable for my kindle fire 2.
I cant finy any on ebay... ( ebay.de )
Moved to q&a
I never managed to finish a root using kindle utility I am unsure but believe it was my battery being low but it never would load back onto the program after the utility rebooted it. windows said it was unable to tell what kind of usb device the kindle was. I just need to know how to get the thing to be recognized on my computer. if i can get that far i can use an unbrick utility i found to fix it. Atm it doesnt load at all passed the orange and white kindle logo and im trying to charge my kindle but it is certainly acting odd, no way of telling if its charging or what. But i just need some general instructions or references to other links. maybe i mis installed the abd not sure. If anyone can get me going in the right direction I would be greatly thankful.
is it just one the orange and white logo? or does it like animate with a flash going from right to left? If it just sits there then you are probably in fastboot mode and can flash twrp through fastboot

KFU (kindle fire utility) is not the same as ADB. KFU is just a one-click tool used to root, and put a custom recovery on your kindle fire. So, do you have Kindle Fire Utility downloaded?

OK well what I would like you to do is, unplug your device, go to the folder where kfu is and find /tools and right click to try to open command prompt at that location. Then plug your device in and type fastboot devices.

A live usb will work and either distro will be fine. You have to either run the commands as the root user, or set up your udev rules, or use the SoupKit for it to work properly.
