Well...figured it would eventually come to this. I have been using Swype on all my phones because I love it. Just purchased it while the price is still low. Sucks they finally made it a paid app but all good things must come to an end.

Yes, it is great and I have found it at the post "Best 5 Android Keyboard App" and then I have tried it on my Android, really cool.

Love this keyboard. Soooo much better than default. Voice text seems better than beta.

A more refined and ultimately more usable experience so far as I can tell from using it/reading through the description. Sadly, it went crazy and rebooted my phone along with some potentially seizure inducing flickering of the screen. I'm on a nightly CM10.1 ROM though, stock ROMs should be fine with it.

Anyone else having issues with this version and having the default keyboard switch back to Samsung after reboot? It does it everyone I reboot and it's getting annoying. I'm on stock rooted.

Yeah it seems to be a common problem, I just froze the stock keyboard with tb and voila! problem solved.
BTW OP this should be in themes and apps section. Just saying.

I've tried an older version of Swype and sort of liked it. Is the new one much improved?
I'm currently using Kii Keyboard and find that the word prediction is good for the most part and the swipe functionality works well.

I think it's much improved from beta. Love the halo keyboard. Also the voice recognition is better as to it being able to tell when you stop talking

I was hoping I could do it with the free tb but apparently that's no longer possible. Used to be able to. Ultimate backup lite allowed me to freeze it though and it worked.

Google Play has had problems installing keyboards into the right directories since the JB update (which is why your selection wont stick with reboot). Another fix (besides freezing default), is to backup Swype with an app like TiBackup or ROM Toolbox, and then restore the backup. The restoration should put the app in the correct location and will allow the selection to stick

That didn't work. I unfroze the samsung keyboard, rebooted (samsung now switched to default), backed up swype, restored app+data, set swype to default, rebooted phone, and the samsung keyboard is the default again. What step did I miss that would put it in the correct location? (fyi, still using Ultimate backup lite)
Update. Okay for some reason ultimate backup lite didn't see "swype+dragon" For some reason, even though I deleted swype beta, it's somewhere on my phone and that's what ultimate saw. Now, the bad news is that I re-downloaded TiBu, and it found swype+dragon. I backed it up and restored it. Now all it does is tell me "Unfortunately Swype+dragon has stopped working." HELP!
Update 2: Mini-heartattack averted. I thought maybe there was a directory conflict, so I uninstalled "swype+dragon" via TiBu, checked that the app was no longer listed in the app manager, and then restored "swype+dragon" via TiBu. It worked and I set it to default. Restarted my phone and it stuck without freezing the samsung keyboard. Whew! Thought I would detail out my steps unless anyone else tried this.
Thanks for the idea corbn89

i thought so too for a while as i have been using the 4.2 KB since CM10.1 got to 4.2. prior to that i used all iterations of swype for the past 2.5 years. i liked how the 4.2 KB looked, and thought their swiping implementation was 'good enough', not quite as good as swype but i saw no reason to go and install swype anyway.
however now that they released swype on Play, I DLed it again and the swyping accuracy, corrections and even ease of use of the swype KB is far better. i had almost forgotten how much i liked swype until I stopped using it in lieu of the 4.2 KB. i'm gonna stick with swype again (but I wish their Holo theme was blue instead of orange)

I love this keyboard, it is much better than swiftkey.

I do like swype but miss having the voice type button and use SwiftKey instead because I do use a lot of voice typing.

[ROM] MIUIAndroid 2.6.8 TORO

Hey guys, I've taken the GSM Galaxy Nexus beta and have ported it over to the CDMA/LTE version on Verizon Wireless for here in the states.
I can actually release this to say that I'm comfortable with it enough to use it as a daily driver. So here we go.

I'm not responsible if you break your phone, or your self esteem.
Make sure you wipe EVERYTHING. Including, Data, Cache, and Dalvik-Cache.
Fresh Install, let boot and enjoy.
A few important notes, the Download app found in the tools folder prevents you from downloading large apps through the market over the carrier network, simply go into the app settings to disable this if you don't want to connect to a wifi network.
As far as I can tell most everything is working correctly, however if you notice something amiss. Leave a note here.
Known Issues:
Gallary FC's
Fixed:
Wi-Fi Tether
Airplane mode FC's
GPS
Cheers guys!
I think I will give this a shot a little later. Trying out AOKP b30 right now but can't flash over in the middle of class. haha Looking forward to SOMEONE getting a solid MIUI build for the Gnex Thanks for the work!
Wow looks polished. I'd love to see a fully working MIUI rom that doesn't have all the weird freakouts or horrible battery drainage.
I'm afraid to flash because I get addicted to MIUI very easily and force myself to work through the bugs.
Do you plan on keeping this updated and actually trying to work out the bugs?

I usually release every Friday, unless life throws me a fastball.
The battery drain was super noticeable in the 2.3.30 build, but I think that it was related to an issue with the CM9 upstream that week. I've since have had acceptable battery life this week.
While it's not perfect I hope to polish it in the coming weeks. Now that Xiaomi is releasing beta builds for the Galaxy Nexus I can build more reliable roms instead of having to splice stuff up for the Nexus S beta. I think most issues should resolve themselves in the coming weeks.
Most MIUI roms I've used in the past (and on other devices) seem they come out with a semi-working rom with a few little bugs, but the dev only updates the MIUI code and never works on fixing the known problems. So after several MIUI version bumps, the bugs just keep piling on until it isn't even worthwhile anymore.
+1 for MIUI officially supporting the GN.
MIUI is super awesome. I'm in love with the dialer, messaging, and music app. The theme support is nice too.

I totally understand that. If it's something that's LTE/CDMA galaxy nexus specific I'm going to do anything and everything with in my power to remedy those bugs.
Until Xiaomi fully releases their source code (I think they're planning on doing that sometime this year) I'm left debugging in dalvik byte code land, which can is not for the faint of heart.
I'm glad that this is coming from an official beta. Rather than having to take on the task single handed, there is a whole team in China perfecting the experience for this very hardware.

Thank you!! I've been running 2.3.23 and I've fallen in love with it, despite the few bugs I've come across. Definitely my daily driver until I get AOKP fever again.
Flashing now. I look forward to the support and use the camcorder all the time so hopefully that's taken care of soon
Thanks again
Does this version of MIUI support themes. The last time I had installing themes made it not work.
I loved MIUI on my fascinate and was waiting for it on the GN. The problem with the other versions was it seemed like the images and UI resolution wasn't playing nice with the phones screen. It didn't seem sharp more like it was blurry. Also 5 x 5 home screens didn't look right.
I really like the themeing MIUI so I'll give this a try tonight after I make my back up and don't need my phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Edit: Google Play FC's :-(
Edit 2: Works after clearing data. Went into xda app to edit this and that forced closed. Opened right after that though.
Tethering isn't working for me. It worked fine on a 2.3.xx version. It seems to turn on wifi but nothing can connect to it and the symbol doesn't show up in the status bar. Theming is sporadic. Neither my status bar, including the pull down menu and toggles nor phone, nor sms theme and it doesn't list local themes even though it has the "Downloaded" banner in the online section. It doesn't set fonts. I've tried several and rebooted several times.
The biggest thing for me however is the nav bar. I do not like the controls at all... I'd much prefer if they were ICS or customizable or even capable of being disabled. I also loved the old miui search opposed to the Google. A choice there would be awesome too.
While I'm here, any chance I could get help setting the language to Japanese instead of English or Chinese?
Thanks a mil for all of your time and hard work.

For the most part, yes. I've noticed so far that status bar, phone and font doesn't take. Confirmed SMS, home, lock, icons, and boot animations. Really hard to notice unless you're coming straight from another miui.
Edit: SMS theme is not working. Not sure if it was working when I wrote my reply or if I was mistaken but its not working now.

How is everybody's battery life on this rom? I couldn't even get 6 hours on the other miui roms for some reason and that was with little to no use. Any ideas??

Wow this is my first time using MIUI and damn it's beautiful. I have heard great things about it. It's really a unique, interesting experience and has some great features. Google could learn a few things. I especially love how the notifications and sms work and how much more control you have over the notification led without a third party application. The lockscreen music player integration and control is extremely awesome as well. Installing imoseyon's lean kernel seemed to help smooth things out a bit too. Thanks for all the hard work porting it and keep up the great work on it.
Also tethering worked fine for me.
What's the different between this and the other miui rom from miui.us?
Status bar not only ignores themes but doesn't keep notifications while ob the home screens. It just has Verizon Wireless on the left. I don't know I missed a call unless I see it on my lockscreen or dock icon.

Would love to use this, but as with the last release, when I go to downloads it try's to download "Dictionary Update Information" over and over again, eventually resulting in thousands of failed downloads and causing my phone to get very hot. Tried wiping and installing a couple different times with no success.

This is caused by the Downloads app that defaults under a tools folder in the home screen
You can prevent it from happening by doing the following
In the Home Launcher screen by default there should be a folder called tools. Within the tools folder (or wherever you may have put it now) there is an app called Downloads.
After entering the App, go ahead and hit the menu button and select "Settings"
Now when you are finally here you have the option to turn off monitoring by deselecting "Data download prompt", or you can set a different value if you want it to control large file downloads if you are on a limited data plan.

Haven't seen any other thread so I'm posting here.
To start off, playing with the swiping keyboard is troublesome for me... I never liked Swype and I suck at swyping anyway tapping seems faster... Or maybe my finger isn't greased properly...
Otherwise, I have noticed that Agent Dash seems to stutter less in my 5 minutes of testing. The kernel's changed so I don't get those frequent flashing and random reboots (not yet anyway) (knock wood!).
No miracast streaming. No change in the radio performance thus far. There's a new antialiasing option in the Dev options though.
Seems alright, I'll say. Sans the swiping (which is a personal preference, cause it slows me down if I type carefully... Which you need to do if you want to make any sense... Go figure!)

I sense a lag after the update; even after two reboots.
The lock screen is almost rubbish IMHO. Its like having multiple screens with widgets.
As for the toggle I was expecting much much more. Don't mind the keyboard at all.
I don't have a 4.2 OTA, but I've been running the leaked apps on my Gnex for weeks.
Here's my impressions:
Keyboard is great for one-handed typing, I don't care who you are you have to admit that it makes it a little easier to type when you only have one had available and I'm a fan of it.
Camera is alright, I feel like the pictures (at least on the Gnex) didn't look as good as they should've but that was a .apk from a Nexus 4, so it's understandable. Also Photo Sphere works pretty well if you know how to take the pictures correctly and not move the phone around too much.
From what I've seen of the official 4.2 features, lock-screen widgets look really unfinished, quick settings needs some work and the ability to customize it, and I still don't know if HDR is on the Gnex yet.
Overall I'm a little skeptical if this will be a definitive "upgrade" or not.

Bad one, downgraded to 4.1.2
First thing is, that you cant use gesture typing on my languange (finnish) so useless feature. Locksreen is crap i think like comparing the ways to widget locker, android loses 5-0. the build is also laggy, and apps is crashing and i get reboots. Would not recommend this, maybe later when batter version is avaible

Everything seems to be running smoothly so far. I flashed 4.1.2 stock, unrooted, flashed the 4.2 zip and re-rooted and all that jazz.
Starting from new sucks (have to re-do screends and such), but it's also nice to start over fresh.
Lock screen are interesting but I find myself trying to swipe to the next one, but registers as a pattern instead (pattern password lock). When I start getting more texts/events I'll be able to find the usefulness of it all.
Swipe is really nice on the keyboard. I'm a button-press guy, but this is sort of refreshing. I like seeing the word develop as I move my finger around. Will I use the all the time? Maybe. I'll give it this week to test out.
Pull-down with quick settings is a useful feature. If it had data as well, that'd be amazing. I usually turn on wifi, turn off data just to make sure I'm not wasting it on my ATT plan. The icon for my name in the top left is kind of useless though. Just shows a small amount of contact information. Maybe it'll be the spot for profiles in the future.
Speed and performance is amazing as always. Ever since Jelly Bean it's been responsive and quick to load apps. Only when something is downloading in the background does the OS get a little sketchy. That's nothing to worry about though.
Remember to tap 7 times on About > Build Number to enable Developer Options. It's only been maybe half an hour, so I'll keep running through the various features to get the full experience down. Next up: Photo Sphere.
It's really smooth and stable for me. Even better than 4.1.2. I like the new styling and I fell in love with new additions right away. Like I mentioned before, I'm a bit bothered by a "recent apps" menu. Everythime I close (slide) an app, it laggs. The whole thing just blinks for a bit. Otherwise, everything runs well.
Oh, and I don't have "pinch to zoom" in Gmail.. checked in the settings, if I missed anything, but nothing... any ideas?

Damn, I must be blind... thank you so much!
Not particularly impressed with the lockscreen widgets. And the colors are terrible! Can't wait for a custom kernel to drop so I can get that sorted! Apart from that, it's been okay so far, except for the slightest bit of lag, which seems to have settled in now. I guess it's a little too early to tell since most of us would still be installing our apps and customizing it, etc. Can't say much about the keyboard since I'm not a very big fan of the swipe keyboard. I'm happier with SwiftKey!
Swype feature is working well. Camera looks good but forced closed few times. Once it hung and I had to take out my battery to restart.
Setting panel is a disappointment ..was expecting toggle to be available. Didn't face any lag.
Btw i don't see the thumbnail of clicked snap when my camera is on so I had to go to gallery to check the clicked snap.
Also new play store doesnt show manual updates seperately.

Can anyone tell me if wireless display is activated via the OTA? Am extremely interested to know if Miracast is a software feature or not.
The Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S builds still use the old 3.0 Linux kernel. Only the Nexus 4 build uses the newer 3.4 kernel. Is there a good reason why the new kernel isn't used in the other builds?

There have been apps available for years that accomplish the exact same thing, I can stream music/video to my AppleTV & PS3. So I see that as a total cop-out, if true.

www.google.com (keeps reloading)

I use Google.com for my browser and never had any issues with it until today. When I load Google.com it comes up very quyickly as it should but it just keeps reloading and reloading until i force stop it or back out of it. Sometimes it will work OK but more times than most it will just constantly reload. No other web pages I set up to be my home page does this happen to. I'm wondering is Google.com having issues and I just don't know about it, (I hope) Any help would be welcomed.

I un installed the stock browser and installed Chrome. Didn't know what else to do.. BTW.. I'm on AOKP Liquid Smooth RC9 if that makes a difference... It started after updating from RC8.

I am on completely stock and just all of a sudden My stock Google browser starting doing exactly what you just pointed out. I noticed if I signed out of the browser (on the phone) it would stop reloading. I also have the SGS2 using it strictly on wifi and the same thing was happening to that one as well. I signed out of that one and it also stopped.
As I said I am completely stock without root and it still happened so it isn't because you flashed a different rom. Hoping this is a hiccup in the Google browser and will somehow fix itself with a possible update.
Any changes I will let you know by posting it right here.

Well it's good to know this is on Google's side. It started doing this last night for me. I use the page multiple times a day without any problem until now... The problem seems to be in the mobile view so switch to classic for now and it will fix the problem. The mobile version keeps trying to ping your location but gets an error of unknown location. All the GPS settings do nothing to effect it.

Thanks for the tip, I just signed out of the mobile version and all was OK. At least I know it isn't my phone.
Thanks,

Has anyone found a real fix for this issue. As I said I just signed out of Google.com from the browser and am able to use it without it reloading. I tried signing back in and it started reloading immediately. Very annoying. I can not figure out why all of a sudden that Google.com just keeps reloading???
Any input would be well appreciated.
Thanks,
Vinny

Experiencing same issue on my galaxy s3 stock rom.
Just started a day ago, what is going on?
A lot of users are reporting same issue in other forums as well.
And its not phone specific - seems to be hitting all kinds of newer phones...???

There seems to be a few "bugs" going around since the 4.1.1 JB (JellyBean) update. So far I have found the "Refresh Bug" and the "Non-Stock Keyboard Bug".
The solution I posted earlier seems to be working fine for me (Stock 4.1.1) so far.. 'crosses fingers'
Within the next few seeks we should see a rollout of the 4.1.2 OTA update which will solve a lot of bugs us "Stock" users are experiencing + Added features.
Hold tight and be patient as we should find a permanent solution soon.

I have tried just about everything and the only thing that works if you want to use the Mobile Version of the stock browser is just to remain signed OUT. Don't think it is Jelly Bean related because I have had Jelly Bean for a while now and this just started yesterday afternoon I think for me. I use that for my browser, use it daily and it worked great right up until yesterday. ( I think it might be just T-Mobile related because I also have a Verizon HTC Rezound and this isn't a problem on that phone )

You got it wrong buddy. This is not an issue with jellybean or the os.
Read up and you will see this is happening in various os. There is even a thread that is reporting the same issue on iOS.
It is something with the Google mobile site that is affecting some phones.

Been seeing the same issue on my S2. It's become an incredible annoyance.
Noticed just a little while ago that turning off "Precise Location" in the Settings for Google (at the bottom of the page) has seemed to fix my problem. Not sure if it'll last, but for now I can relax again... lol.
Quick Update
I was having exact problems, on ATT Galaxy S3, Stock, running ICS....Today, I updated on Kies, to JB...all problems are gone....I can sign into Goggle, ..and no more constant refreshes ...

How to Get Swype Beta or Swift Key Flow Beta on any phone (No root required)

While the AOSP 4.2 keyboard and the Samsung keyboard are okay, I've found that Swype is still better at gesture typing all the way around.
Of course, it didn't come bundled with our phone :sadface
So here's a quick little tutorial on how to get it. Root is NOT required, anyone with an Android phone can do this, I'm just posting it here because our phone specifically doesn't come with it which means our ROMs can't even have it (refer to warez rules). It's probably written somewhere else on the site, but this will be easier to find for T-Mo Note II owners
Real quick and easy, should take 5 minutes. This will get you the latest Swype beta.
Step 1
Go to this website http://beta.swype.com/android/create/
Step 2
Register with your email and password
Step 3
Open the email they send you on your phone. In the email, there is a download link for swype beta installer. Download and install that. Remember the One Time Activation code they send you too. Also, don't forget to allow non-play store apps to be installed (should be under developer settings). You can do this step on your computer, but then you have to transfer the apk to your phone when you download it...it's just easier this way.
Step 4
Open Swype Beta installer that you just installed (it's not the actual keyboard...yet). Sign in using your email and password. Then enter your One Time Activation code.
Step 5
Once that's done, it'll prompt you to download Swype Beta. Do so, then install. If you forgot to allow play store apps it'll toss a thing that says you need to. If this happens, use a file manager to navigate back to the Downloads folder of your internal SD card to try to install it again (since you can't get back to that install screen once you leave it)
Step 6
...?
Step 7
Profit
Afterward, feel free to configure it however you want to. The first thing I did was go to "Personalize" in the Settings and change the theme.
This really isn't a mod or anything special, just a little way to get everyone Swype since our Note II doesn't come with it feel free to share with everyone (especially the other US Note II forums) and don't bother giving credit to me lol. It's signing up for a website, I literally did nothing here except write it out for you guys!
If you're having trouble (which you really shouldn't), here's the popular trouble shooting stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640608
For Swift Key Beta Flow:
Step 1
Go to their official Swift Key Flow website: http://www.swiftkey.net/flow/
Step 2
Download the APK for phones
Step 3
Install like any normal APK file (use your favorite file manager, navigate to wherever you downloaded it to....likely the Downloads folder on your SD card...and install it).
Step 4
...?
Step 5
Profit!
I've personally tested both of these and they both work.
and a screen shot for posterity.

Beta has voice to text, stock swype that comes with our phone doesn't.
But Beta Swype has its own problem. The dictionary keeps disappearing. It seems to be a major bug in Beta Swype according to many.
Can't you not install beta over the pre-installed?
I haven't rooted and custom rom'd the note 2 yet... being lazy
Swype came pre installed. And... What is this a guide for? Are there people who use these phones that don't know how to install apps?

You have to uninstall any prior versions of swype before you can install this one.

Most of the custom ROMs don't have Swype pre-installed. I had to install the beta on Jedi 6.1 last night...and then again on Jedi X5 this morning. Just because you can use it to install on any ROM, rooted or not, doesn't mean it's intended for any specific audience. It's just the way the method works. Most people who will be using this will be using custom ROMs that don't have it included. Personally, my stock didn't have it included. I don't know why (I preordered it, so maybe I just got lucky?) and many people in the IRC channel for this phone don't have it either. So it's not like everyone's running it but me.
Now, as for your condescending comment on installing applications...well I'll preserve my judgement, but I never rested my phone on a NFC tag and couldn't figure out why it was reading the tag over and over again. So don't poke fun, we've all asked stupid questions before.
Great application. I have been using it all day. I like the new word prediction feature.

Couldn't agree more. While I've been using swype beta for a while now, it's always great to see people taking the time to educate and help others. Really appreciate the effort.
My two cents:
1. I found swype beta to perform much better than stock. 2. If I remember correctly, I was able to run both stock swype and beta swype together, although I installed beta from a titanium backup file I had and didn't go through the full setup process, so maybe that's why I didn't have to uninstall stock swype first

I haven't used swype in quite some time (I think it came bundled with the Epic Touch on Sprint, their Galaxy S II) and it's definitely improved dramatically since then. i really like how it handles somethings better than it did before (i.e. website links, swear words, etc). When I typed lol into the older versions, it would come out as "loo". The only thing I'm not a fan of is the dictionary not sticking. So i have to manually type out complicated words like Bryzgalov (or any other Russian hockey player). I'm sure they'll fix it...and hockey is in the middle of a lockout so I'm not too concerned about it right now Definitely a fan of it.

Questions for Fire phone users

Hello,
I'm thinking of purchasing a Fire phone and have a few questions.
1. What's it like having no back & recent apps button?
2. Have you managed to install any launcher that makes it look like what Android normally looks like with working widgets and kitkat/lollipop notification bar?
3. Anyone tried Nova Launcher?
4. I read you can sideload google play without root, does that work properly?
I currently have a Moto G, I like it but at times I wish it was more responsive.
I don't take many pics but when I do I often wish they were a little clearer.
I'm looking for a phone that isn't too expensive and isn't too big (most phones seem to be getting huge).
Thanks
I wouldn't. For the price, any phone with android would be better.
Find one that you can unlock the bootloader and your in business.
IMHO.
I am happy with it and the specs are great... not any android is better. Just need to get used to ir... back button is not necesary as you swipe from the bottom of the screen up and the job is done. And the price is really good... i paid 99 pounds...

Have you tried any launchers to make it look more like normal Android?
It's a good looking, very fast smartphone that is hamstrung by the OS. Amazon will not unlock the bootloader and let folks root it. If these things don't bother you, and you're willing to try something new, then for $99 it is an incredible deal. Although the same great specs in a true android phone would be better at this price, such a thing doesn't exist: the specs to price ratio is tremendous.
Finally, although I use it as a second phone, I have grown to like some of the apps I'm stuck with. For example, I like the phone's email app as much as the gmail app. The feature's on the phone's email app work better for me across various email accounts.

I have had the unrooted unlocked 3.6.8 version for a few months now. I had no issues side loading any of the Google products to the phone. I did have install older android 4.2 versions of the 4 files and that worked on the AT&T version. Google Maps have the double texted which is annoying but i have been using either the chrome version or Here app for navigation. Weird thing i could be wrong but my Zillow app has a map feature that does not have that issue. Not sure if it using GMaps but I thought it did. Someone smarter than me might want to see what the Zillow app does differently. My home screen is the Google Launcher with Zooper Widgets. IT runs and fells like a normal android device. Not having a back but does cause issues with some apps that have their own back button. If you press the home button once it takes you to the main screen you set in the launcher just like normal Android devices. If you double tap the home button it opens the FireOS recent app/app killer menu which I like MUCH better then the Lolliop way. The camera is great it takes wonderfulphotos much better then my Nexus 4.

I have installed a back button apk, which works well
I have also installed lightning launcher, i wasnt after the pure android look, but i never went back to the main screen always stayed in the app drawer, so thought why not
Nova didnt work, the wallpapers didnt.

1. Actually, you can wipe from bottom to up to perform a BACK operation.
2. I tried google now launcher. No widget and no wallpaper.
3. Not yet..
4. Google play actually works for most of the apps. I'm trying to figure out how to back up photo to google photos, as google+ can't be installed.
I think fire phone has a great camera. And if you're a heavy amazon prime user , I mean things like instant video and prime music, maybe getting one is pretty good.

I dont regret getting it. My prime was up soon so at a hundred bucks i say its an awesome phone. I did use google now launcher for a couple weeks but then decided to give the amazon launcher a try and i'm still using it two months later. The swipe up to go back isnt perfect but you do get used to it. I have a pretty thick case on my phone so the only time i have a hard time is in landscape cuz my finger hits the case. For notifications I use heads-up and it works really well. You really just need it for for apps you load through google play. If you use facebook messenger you can use the bubble thing. I dont use it but i have. You just have to mess with the messenger app settings. As far as sideloading... what do you want to sideload? I gave the link of google plus that works so that fixes that... hangouts notifications is fixed by heads up cuz the regular notifications disappear in one sec. Maps doesnt work cuz of the text but nokia here works really well and i've come to really enjoy it and dont miss maps at all. Other than that everything I loaded through google play works very well... clash of clans, pebble watch app. youtube, drive, google play music, keep, gmail. The only app I havent had the opportunity to use is wallet but i did install it and it loads fine. Just not sure if the nfc side of it works. If anybody has info on that it would be appreciated.

Oh and the firefly app is awesome plus the amazon prime music app has gotten really really good. Maybe theres room for improvement but I love it now. You dont have to add each song to your library to listen. You can just search and play and there's a lot of music included and new stuff is added all the time.
Which widgets are you referring to that don't work with the Google launcher? My Zooper, Hangouts, CNN, and Google Music widgets work for me.
