Can anyone make a mod that will change the H icon to 4G?
I dont want to pay the extra for 4G as it's quite expensive here in the UK and all my friends keep saying how pointless it is having a 4G phone and not use 4G. Having a 4G icon instead on the H will just keep them quite!
Thanks!
Haha very useless
What network are you on? Because O2 and Vodafone are getting it very soon, and Three are getting it in Summer/Autumn and won't charge customers extra for it.

All you likely need to do is change all the H png with their 4G equivalents then push the file back (whilst in bootloader)

Here's my most recent version of ARHD's systemUI with the data icons replaced with the animated att icons. If your rom uses a different base, I'd be happy to do that SystemUI as well..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40844345&postcount=57
Am I missing something? Isn't H and 4G HSPA+ the same thing? Or are we talking about LTE here.
Just talking about the icons. The international roms and the att roms use differnent icon sets to indicate the connection to different networks. Some people like the international base but would rather have the att icons

Thanks for doing this however when I flash the zip in recovery it just reboots before it gets a chance to finish. Any ideas?
Thanks!
EDIT: Extracted the SystemUI.apk and pushed this to system app manually - works perfectly. Are you able to do one with the static 4G icon at all rather than the animated one?

I tried this with ninja morph, I went into the /system/framework/framework-res.apk, then onto the /res/drawable-hdpi, From there i went to look for the file named stat_sys_data_connected_3g.png and the other 3. Anyone have any idea or how hard would it be to make a flashable zip i've never made one so i'm not positive on what i need or how to do it
I honestly can't understand why someone with a 3g phone wants it to say 4g, it's very simple, and pointless IMO, PM me if you can't get it, I will help you out.

UPDATE 11/18 sonny's ICS with H+/4G/battery mod & H+/4G/3G/2G icons for CM7/Nightly
Here's some icons I threw into systemui.apk for cm7. I just took them out of tmobile stock gingerbread for mytouch4g rom and edited them. Some I made from parts here and there and some from scratch. No big deal but I thought I'd share them with yall. I changed the H icon to 4G, left the 3G as is, and changed the EDGE and GPRS icons to 2G. Add H+ icons too. See update below for more details. I thought it looked nice... so there
This will work on CM7.1 and Nightly 225 and above. Probably, works on any recent CM7 build. This isn't for special credit or anything... just thought I'd share since some have been asking for it.
It is just the SystemUI.apk (the stock CM theme that comes applied when you first flash CM7) It's also known as "system" theme... blah blah blah. To apply flash the zip you want in recovery.
UPDATE:
added sonnysekhon's ICS theme v1.6 modded with 4G/H+ icons and modded lower yellow battery 16-39%. Also added grey notification bars so you can see the ocassional black on black text plus new blue data arrows for when connected to google's servers (aka sync) Get it here! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19157526&postcount=3180

Hey! No problem.... I knew it wasn't something in high demand but I thought a few might like it.
I mean I already know what GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ is and all the icons don't incorperate them so I decided to simplify things a bit. EDGE/GPRS is so slow... so to me having a 2G icon for both is fine. I did happen to find a H+ icon in the htc glacier rom but not sure how to use it. I doubt we could... the steps must go like this for it work... gprs/edge/umts/hspa/hspa+. The G2/desire z only registers gprs/edge/3G/H unfortunately
yay!! thanks for this!

If you don't know how to flash stuff... you probably don't have root access anyways. Do some research first. Start at the wiki page for Desire Z/G2 and then read some sticked tutorials. You must have root access and S-Off before modding your phone. Good luck to you!
My phone is rooted, but I just wanted to make total sure that the flashing is correct. Could you elaborate on how I do this?

In the event that I want to undo these changes, how would I be able to do so?
Hey sino8r, thanks for making this! I was all excited to check them out, but then it occurred to me I'm using a theme and I just can't part with it. Oh well... I did, however, just link another user to your thread who was asking about the 4G icon.
Last couple questions, can I not use this if I am currently using a theme? Also, would I call the zip update and then flash it or keep the name SystemUI?

you can rename it but its not required or needed. If you have a theme already you can't use it over that particular theme. you would have to just use the system theme but once you flash this one... you can switch back and forth easily through the theme manager. and if you wanted to revert to stock cm7 there is one you can flash easily that I provided. If you had read the first post, it told you to flash in recovery, this IS a theme, and that there was a way to revert. Its no big deal... enjoy!

Just wanted to say thanks and apologize if I misinformed another user with my comments earlier. Take care, man.

well i got sprint to cancle me because of changes to contract flashed to cricket and that was cool for the price but i still had crap data sold my 3d and put a down payment on my phone

hope to get to know more of you over here just when i started to cozy up in the evo 3d section i landed myself here
so anyway asoon as i got home i rooted it of course and i thought i would start slow and flash a rooted stock rom i saw on cyanogens site they list the galaxy s2 but the picture of the phone doesn't match is that for a different variation
thank in advance

yes it's different, that's for the international version. each carrier has it's own version of the s2

Im sure you know this, but it is a common mistake that happens and I dont want you to ruin your phone. Do not flash any other ROM for the S2 varient that is not specifically designated for the T989. You can flash Skyrocket roms, but still. Be very careful when flashing a gs2 rom! I would recommend the Darkside Warefare rom or Juggernaut 5.0. Both good roms and plenty of other nice ones to try out like macnut. Anyways, happy flashing and make sure they say for T989 or you risk a brick.
You can flash skyrocket roms? How do you go about that, just flash a T989 Kernel?

I cancelled Sprint last week too. Had the Evo 3D as well. I actually hated the qHD screen after having the OG Evo. The screen width cramped the keyboard too much. Loving this screen, battery life and data speeds.
I came from sprint and the evo 3d a few weeks ago not missing much love the data speeds going to miss unlimited data already I use a lot of data. Try Juggernaut rom I have been using it with launcher pro so I can change the shortcuts on the bottom and the paid version has some sense like widets. You can also download smart keyboard its more like the HTC keyboard after my last 4 phones being HTC a few things I missed and adding them makes it more like I'm used to.
As far as the 3d I don't miss it at all in 5 months had the get it replaced 3 times. The screen was crammed after the evo
This is the best thing about the sgs2. It almost seems that the battery is twice what I had with the 3d. Overall a better phone by far.
Evo 3d couldn't make it thru the day even being oc sga2 a good day and a half

I downloaded and installed the green LTE file, but when I rebooted my phone was acting extremely weird. I had lost a few of my system settings. Thankfully I followed the advice in the OP and did a backup before I flashed!
Could the issue be that I'm running stock stock, i.e. an odexed stock rom? Do these require a deodexed rom?

I looked at his version 4 and there is a bug regarding applying Sammy stock green battery. These batteries would fall under that since they replace stock. That ROM is also very themed so could be customizations that were done to the ROM which are preventing the stock batteries from flashing.

you should return it and wait for the T-Mobile's LTE S3 version:

No point in getting an out-dated phone
You should of went to radioshack then used the gs3 hspa model for a month until the lte one arrived. There's gonna be a lot of pissed off customers, I would have been one of them if I didn't leave T-Mobile for sprint a few months ago lte is worth the wait .I thought hspa was fast buy it don't compare.

hahaha nah im good! ive wanted this phone forever! and i dont really care for LTE or whatever, i have wifi at work and my apt so im set! =)
Since you are on MAC, you might want to check out this thread: Rooting JB OTA from OS X (no flash counter).
I'm a PC guy so I am not sure it is possible or not but you might be able to boot Linux from a liveCD and use ADB to root it that way. That is if you know how to use ADB/SDK. MintLinux and PuppyLinux are both pretty good versions to do that with.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.

+ 100..... By the time T-mobile's LTE is widespread, maybe you'll be on S5, S6, or S7 if you still like SGS's. Just my 2 cents.

I recommend installing Swipepad, fantastic app. It's basically a quick launcher for any app off any screen you're in.
If you wanna switch keyboards then Def go with SwiftKey Flow beta. The beta isn't on the play store tho. You have to download it off the SwiftKey website. Non root required btw. Just hit download then open the file. Nova Launcher is my favorite launcher. Battery Stats Plus and Pocket are nice apps also. Must have Flipboard as well.

Unless I am reading this wrong...
Our current phones will not support LTE and would need to upgrade to the ones coming out here in the next couple months.
I see no reason to waste monies like that as HSPA+ is fine and won't be a hog on the battery.
