SOD even in stock - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys really need help on this one.
As a brief background on the problem, from stock I have flashed a few custom roms mainly paranoid android, carbon, android revolution hd. Flashing was always successful. No problem with odin flash as well. My concern is this. I noticed that I was getting SODs after flashing a few custom roms. So in order to fix it, I tried to flash stock rom. No problem with flashing however SODs continue to exits. Have tried flashing quite a few stock roms but basically SOD problem still exists. By the way when flashing through ODIN I always just flashed with the PDA option never with the others. Getting really frustrated about this. I can get rid of the SODs temporarily by using SoftLocker. However, I wish to get back to a stable rom base before I try any new customizations. Hope you can help me. Thanks.
On an added note, when I connect my phone to the PC the phone is not automatically detected. I still have to input *#7284# change modem to pda in order for it to be detected. I think this is somehow related because this happened during my encounters with SODs.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I have already checked for the SDS chip and happily my phone doesn't use the insane chip.
Just wondering about this SOD thing.
Should it be enough that I flash into stock (PDA only) to get factory stock?
Should mention that original ROM of phone did NOT have SODs.
So I'm guessing the culprit is flashing the customized ROMs.
However, I cant get stability back even when flashing back to stock.
I can still see some residual effects of previous roms in my current stock rom (like the usb connection not detected).
Just looking for some clues and glad if someone could help.

HI Guys,
Just an update on this, in case someone is experiencing the same problems, it seems I got the SOD fix. I found it out by switching back to an AOKP rom. Suddenly, no more SOD. After a bit more experimenting, I found out that it had something to do with the kernel (stock kernel even!). My basic fix is this: install a stock rom then switch kernel to Note2Core. It seems certain "configuration updates" within the kernel prevents the device from going into sleep of death. (Note that my device now can "sleep" properly ... saw this using cpu spy ... deep sleep is still attained with NO SOD). Hope this helps people out there with the frustrating SOD problem.
Incidentally, if someone could point out how the kernel change fixed the SOD problem it would be a great help.
By the way, usb connection is still not detected by default but fixed by doing *#7248" and then choosing pda for usb.

Fixed! and Solved!

As an end note, I was able to bring back the ROM to stable state.
I believe my mistake was that I accidentally flashed an S3 ROM to my Note 2.
Probably corrupted some files.
The fix seems to be this:
Flash N7100_OXA_N7100XXDLJ2.
It will fail at sboot.bin.
Flash another stable rom (I did it with stock rom Stock_Deodex_Rooted_N7100XXDMC3_N7100OLBDMD1_N7100DXDLK5_THL)
Finish up.
Test for SODs.
CPU spy is the best way to check for it.
If deep sleep occurs without SOD then your phone is back to stable state.
USB connection is working properly as well as bluetooth (which I failed to notice was defective as well).
Hope this helps someone as it took me almost 5 months to get the phone stable. Cheers.

baseband unknown?

hi all, been following the Epic forums for sometime, finally decided to start getting involved
Im experiencing an issue with EB13. when it first came out I Odined EB13, everything worked great. Since then I have ran into the same issue every time I switch ROMS. I will flash the new rom, about half the time it works great. The other half I get no connectivity at all, and the UI is sluggish. Going into about phone, I see that my baseband is unknown, and my hardware version is unknown.
I can usually get it to connect after re-flashing and re-flashing the rom a few times.
Also, noticed that once I get it to actually connect and I get "bars", I will of course then do a fresh Nandroid, after a full nand backup the issue reappears.
Anyone know what this could be? weird thing is just that its so random. I can get it to work most of the time, just have trouble when switching roms.
Set up:
CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4
Just flashed SyndicateROM today.
EB13 (sometimes)
FIXED
FIXED. all the computers in my home are Macs so odining the modem again is not a quick fix option.
Booted into CWM3 and Fixed Permissions.
Booted up and connected.
Interesting stuff
I've been experiencing the exact same problem as the OP, but for me, running fix permissions in CWM (2.5.1.0) doesn't (always) solve the issue.
It seems to happen anytime I flash a zip from CWM, and goes away randomly (usually after sever flash attempts and modem restores with Odin).
Really hoping someone has an idea what's causing this issue, because it makes flashing things very tedious knowing half the time I'm gonna be stuck with a useless phone until I can get the modem working again.
I'm wondering if it's somehow a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to affect everybody.
If it helps, I have the stock deodexed EB13 ROM with the Genocide 0.3a kernel.
I'm definately thinking its a cwm issue.. ill even just do a nandroid backup for kicks, reboot and it will do it sometimes.. eventually I might odin back to eb13 and reflash cwm and custom rom and see if I can get it to go away

Let me know if that works for you, because it happens to me all the time, and it's really annoying.
There also doesn't seem to be a simple way of fixing it.
Seems to just randomly go away as suddenly as it comes on.
Okay, so I just odined back to stock EB13 and I still have modem issues.
Currently going all the way back to DI18 to see if that fixes things, but is it safe to assume it's a hardware issue if even Odin doesn't fix it?
Okay, so the unknown baseband issue is back for me, and I seem to have made some headway on what causes it.
I had just tried to initiate a ROM backup in ROM Manager, but it hung while rebooting into CWM (on the Samsung Boot Logo).
I think I might have been doing something with ROM Manager last time it happened as well.
Can anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do think of a reason it'd happen when using ROM Manager?
I'd very much like to nip this issue for good, because it's making it hard to justify using CWM/root if I'm gonna keep losing the phone part of my phone.
Can I bump this? My battery died, and when I turned it back on, I have the unknown baseband, unknown hardware problem. I've been googling all night, and haven't found a solution.
I have been running ERA Legendary v3 on the EI22 Modem for a few weeks with ACS Recovery that I've had installed since it came out.
Any help would be awesome.

And I've tried flashing modems/roms and odining modems/roms. Even Heimdalling modems/roms. No luck. I've mainly tried ec05 and up. I will try older ones right now, if I can find them.

Signal problems after update

Hello all,
I just received my shiny new HOX yesterday and it was working very well at first, however last night I updated it to the latest firmware (with Sense 4.1) and now it will not connect to the mobile network at all (no bars, won't find any networks when I manually search). I have noticed that it seems to be stuck in airplane mode.
Under airplane mode in the settings page it says "off", then a few seconds later it will say "turning off...", then it will go back to saying "off" and then back to "turning off.." and so on. I think it must be a bug in the firmware because I have tested the sim card in another phone (worked fine), and it was working fine before the update.
The only way to see if it is a bug in the firmware (as far as I am aware) would be to install a different ROM. However, I cannot find any way to install a new ROM (custom or stock) without unlocking the bootloader and therefore voiding the warranty (which I don't want to do in case it turns out to be a hardware issue).
I should also add that I could return the phone, but I would like to leave that as a last resort because I live in the middle of nowhere and trying to post stuff if a pain in the ass (and expensive).
I have also tried both a hard and soft reset, with no luck.
This is my first HTC device so I don't really know what I'm doing (although I have plenty of experience rooting and flashing my S2)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
same prob
i've the same problem since the last update. hope it will fixed soon.

I'm glad I'm not the person having this problem . Does anyone know if it is definitely a firmware issue? (I might feel more confident about flashing a custom ROM if that's definitely the problem)
Anybody?
Maybe something went wrong with the OTA flash?
First thing HTC will do is flash the RUU to ensure it's back to stock. It will delete all your data, but it's worth a go.
You can use adb backup.

[Q] Constantly losing my 3G Connection with AOKP

Hello, I have a problem with my phone that is driving me insane. This problem started happening a few months back when I rooted my phone and installed AOKP milestone 6 maguro. Every day, at least three times, I have to turn on my airplane mode and turn it off (which is glitchy and takes way too long) to get my data back. Not a big problem, but its INSANELY annoying after this has been happening for months.
Why do I keep losing my 3G connection? I'm with Wind Mobile, and my APN's are correct. Should I just go back to stock?
Try setting your minimum CPU frequency a little higher, say 500-700...

Done and tested for the day, no change in problem.
I think I'm just going to go back to stock. I'll miss my toggles. :'(
Please write here after you flash stock and tell us if it works. I have this problem to.
Any progress?
I have returned to 100% stock 4.1.2. I still have the same problem. Starting to think its something wrong with the device it self

Apologies for not responding. I forgot about this post. I didn't return to stock yet. I'm disappointed to hear that it may be hardware. Probably will just relock it and unroot it and stuff, return for fixing if its still messed.
make a back up first before you return to stock
flash the latest 4.2.1 from google or just flash the latest radio if you wish, i'd just go with stock image first just in case its your rom ****ing up.

if you are still losing connection with stock rom AND stock baseband everything stock with latest update, then yeah, it is probably hardware issue.

Cell connection dropping every few min...

Hello everyone, just got a quick question to ask.
I was running CM10 stable and had a problem with my SD card a while back (which I never figured out), so I decided to preform a clean wipe of CM10.0 and a stock rom as a troubleshooting method.
I finally stuck back with CM10.0 and I've been rocking that install for some time, but have a problem. Every fifteen minutes or so the phone's cell connection would drop completely then pick back up a min or so later. It's very temperamental and I have no idea what was causing it. It never inhibited the utility of the phone, so I just dealt with it.
Today I flashed a clean install of Paranoid Android, gs2usr's unofficial version, and it still has the same issue.
I've flash different modems and the issue still remains, but I have no idea where to troubleshoot beyond that.
Any ideas guys?
|EDIT| Solution was taking it back to stock by flashing with Odin then re-rooting and flashing CM10 stable. No issues so far!

Your opinion: is this a hardware or software issue?

I've been having ongoing problems with my GPS for awhile now. At first I thought it was due to a problem with the Lineage OS ROM. Now, having gone back to various stock ROMs, I've found that it's occurring with them as well.
The problem is this: the GPS works great the first 24 hours or so after a boot. After that, the GPS seems to die, showing no satellites in GPS Test or similar apps. HOWEVER, after a reboot, it works great again. Given that it works great after a fresh boot, I'm inclined to think this is a software problem, not hardware - and I'd like to hear from you as to whether you agree with this thinking.
If it is a software issue, the question is what else I can try other than what I've already done (flashing stock and other ROMs). Maybe there's some software that isn't being wiped/overwritten when flashing these stock ROMs with Odin? I tried using KIES, but it doesn't allow me to initialize the device (I'm assuming because Knox shows I've already installed a custom ROM onto it at some point).
Any wisdom appreciated - even if it's just a suggestion of where else to ask about this!
