I've noticed that subtitles have a 1 hour delay on stock Video Player, when loaded from a separate file. I can't understand why, I tried to compensate that, but still can't synchronize the subtitles properly. Can anyone test a mp4 movie with external subtitles to confirm my issue?
I know there are many superior players, I use them, but stock player almost consumes no battery through media link. From my tests, in a 12:50 minutes clip from a 720p mp4 movie spends 0% battery as opposed to near 10% of MX Player or BS Player.

I'm trying to play some blue ray rips on the GN but the playback is a hit or miss. Sometimes I get sound, sometimes I dont. At times the whole handset crashes when I click the play button and I am forced to take the battery out.
I installed MX player from the market and now I can play them fine, but only in SW Decoder & SW Decoder Fast. The HW Decoder lags, does any one else have this issue? Shouldnt the hardware decoder be much faster ? Maybe my GN is faulty?
i have had 2 GN's now and both of them were choppy in in mxplayer on HW but fine on SW. so not just you.
Cool. Thanks for that. Any idea why this is happening ? Also I can't seem to make Mx player go full screen and hide the on screen buttons, It did it on first launch but not anymore

Yep, it lags as much as mx player does in HW decoding mode. Mx player with SW decoding is buttery smooth but I don't understand why
What file compression are you trying? I'm guessing you ripped it at 720 also?
dice player appears to play it fine on HW so im guessing its a problem with mxplayer.
also i have never got the menu buttons to go. it was bugging me also

I'm not sure if it would matter but do you know if its mp4 or .264? Also make sure you don't have any background operations happening.
yeah i was in trial mode also. dont know what to say. i was running a 720p mkv file as far as i know.
sorry.

Yea mkv runs fine in hw. Its avi thats acting up in hw.
I just tested a few videos and it they both worked flawlessly on the stock video player and MX. My best guess would be that you may have something going on in the background thats using your cpu as well.

No problem. If theres an option in avi demux to encode in mp4 or .264 or something try that. I've tested those types of encoded files and they work great at 720 res!
Hey guys!
I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a couple days now, and I was thinking of loading it up with some movies I have at home. The problem is, I've ripped the movies in 720p .mp4 format on my Mac - but it won't play with the stock ICS player.. Rock Player works sort of, it shows video but it doesn't hide the on-screen buttons.
Rip details is: 720p h.264, AAC audio
Any ideas?

Cool, I forgot about Doubletwist, thanks.
I currently use QQPlayer, Diceplayer premium and Rockplayer. They all seem to play some files and not others.
I tried Moboplayer but ran into trouble installing the codec during the install process (even when installing 'offline')

Update - I just tried Doubleplayer, and while it plays everything it stuggles at times. More jerky (lower frame rate?) than QQPlayer.
I'd be happy with QQPlayer but the seek doesn't play nice. So if I miss something I have to start the video from scratch. And like I say, Dice, Mobo, Rockplayer and Realplayer (yes I was desperate) all appear to have various problems of their own.
I do recall VLC being released a year or so ago. But I guess it was pulled too?
I'd love to know if anyone has found a decent video app... (*I have a 4.5 hour daily commute into London!*)

Many people reported that it crashes on ICS, is that happened to you too?
I just copied a few videos that I had on my old fascinate sdcard that would play them perfectly using HW decoder mode with MX player.
I tried it on Nexus, and very choppy, and these videos are not 720P, they are just standard SD
I tried the default video player and I guess does not support mkv files.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
That is strange, I play 720p MKV files in MX without any issues.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling and making sure the app is fully updated?
I use DICE Player but I don't think anyone new can purchase their app because their payment is suspended.
MX Video Player is a good alternative and it's free. But if you've purchased DICE Player in the past, I'd use that.
Edit: https://market.android.com/details?...EsImNvbS5pbmlzb2Z0Lm1lZGlhcGxheWVyLnRyaWFsIl0. Looks like their trial version is now "Ad" supported?
Dice Player is the absolute best for MKVs. But as zephik said, you can't purchase right now.

Yeah looks like their "trial" version is a ad-supported version. So I think DICE Player Ad (trial) is now the full-version of the app but supported with ads as a workaround. I bought the app when it was still available and they still do update it, so I can't confirm but I believe that's how their Ad version is working.

I did not even install it myself I guess when I registered my device with my email it pulled everything down and saw MX player there already.
Let me try another video and see what happens.
I will try the DICE as well even though it has ads just to see if it even works.
OK I tested with the Dice ads player..and it works great!
So now I have to hope they get full version soon.
Anyone know how much full version was?

According to the receipt in my email it was $3.95. The ad version is better than the trial version they originally had.
the original trial lasted 3 days and then you had to buy it. so it's very nice that they've added this ads trial since their payment situation is all screwed up.
one thing though, i've had a lot of issues with AVI's in diceplayer, so i use MoboPlayer for them.
there is no hardware support yet. i've had to settle with using MX video player and set it to "software decoder" / "fast mode".

Dice Player has full MKV hardware support and fully supports 720p and 1080p MKV files.
it actually uses hardware for everything, which unfortunately fails with AVI files on my device.

Hi! I have problems playing some videos, particularly 720p movies that I downloaded via torrent. The video format is .avi and i'm using a class 10, 8gb micro sd card. It says unable to play video when i try it on my GW. The video plays fine on my pc through VLC media player, but when I try playing the video using DivX player, an error pops out about audio codec... (forgot the exact error type name) So I assume that the problem is the audio format. Is there any app that can solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

Try MX Video Player. An AVI-File is just a container, so it can contain different video and audio-codecs which the Video player (whether PC or Smartphone) has to support.

I will try it as soon as I get home. Thanks! One more question about this app; what are the other codecs for? should I download and install them all for my GW? Sorry but i'm really clueless about video formats and stuff.
May I..??
No need to download any codecs...in my exp,..it's support any vid format.but in particular case,if u want using h/w(hardware) accelerator playing some vid playback and it says doesn't support, just download mx armv7 neon codec...but if u still in stock rom,no need to download that codecs..

Nahh..no need to download that mx codecs if any 720p vid run...its just wasting ur space...
Buy a fullhd phone if u want a super-smooth fps..!xP..(kidding bro)
Try to switch between h/w decoding or s/w decoding when playback ur vid..tap on screen,u can see on right side there is small decoder option..tap it and choose between s/w or h/w....feel wich one suite u well..there's a small diff in fps on each decoder.

Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...

Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway
you could try format factory http://www.formatoz.com/ and I hear good things about video spirt (get the light version for free) http://www.verytools.com/videospirit/index.html

It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.
