Hello sorry if this is a repost
As the title says just wondering if I where to root my phone would I lose all my info on it? Will I be able to get all the same apps on a rooted phone?

I now have root - how do I remove the bloatware?
Try Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, or Root Uninstaller.

So who wants to write the noob version so Joe Schmoe like me can do it?
Ya, it seems pretty complicated. I've always had someone else root it then I do all the rom business. Is it as hard as it sounds?

Root without a computer?

I know it's possible to root *some* phones without a computer. Does anyone know if it's possible with the Hercules?
No! You need a computer

Wow...... well I guess that answers that one.
lol
Thanks
I think you can not root without a computer (because of all the ODIN stuff), but I guess ROMs can be installed using ROM manager. But using clockworkmod recovery seems easier.
You can't root without PC. Odin is the only way, my adhd girl can do this!

trolling?? or... just plain... nevermind
Rooting without a computer is the DUMBEST idea in the entire world. IF you screw up your phone, like most n00bs these days do, you will have NO WAY to recover your device without sending it in... not to mention no way to read XDA to discover what went wrong.

Rooting is not the part you need a computer for..
You need a computer in order to install cwm so you can flash the superuser zip

No need to install CWM from PC.
For this method you have to download 2 files (CWM.zip & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip) to you phone and you are ready to go.
Check method 1 on this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

This is to give root access, but to gain the abilty to flash SU to gain root access, you need ODIN and a PC. On the T989, it the only way to flash CWM. To summarize, SU is the saddle, but whats really important is the horse, CWM

Yeah thats right, even you can get a horse without PC. There is app called mobile odin which makes this possible. You can flash firmware with cwm using that, mobile odin requires rooted phone, which we did using prev posts.
I have su access with cwm installed on my phone without imcrease in flash counter and yellow exclaimation at boot.
I am planning to install good rom on this. Once I do it successfully I will try to put small tut on it.

That horse doesn't like us, not compatible with the T989

Isn't half the point of the ROM Manager app to install a custom recovery? If you have root access, you can flash CWM through it. It's literally the first action listed when you open it.

Lost Root After Update

Sorry for the noob question:
I just installed the latest update via Kies and lost my root. Is there a way to get it back?

Is there an update.zip?

Is there an update.zip I can use to root my phone from stock recovery? Iv had my phone for 3 weeks, and havent been able to sit still enough to root it with the computer. I know that it has been asked if you can root without computer and the answer was no. Was just curious if it was possible for someone to make an update.zip for people like me

Using an update.zip to flash in recovery would almost be like rooting without a computer.... wouldn't it?
Yes, it would be rooting without a computer. But im wanting to know if someone is able to make one? Or is it not possible?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
the update.zip would need to be signed by Samsung to be flashed through the stock recovery...
Will never happen...
Sorry about that but you need a computer in order to root.. unless an app exists if their is a vulnerability in the stock rom.

[Q] Rooting A GNex with and unlocked bootloader

Hey this is my first time posting on xda but I've looked at this site many times for help with my phone. This is my first android phone and I'd like to root it. I've seen guides on how to root this phone but when I first got my phone I unlocked the bootloader but I left it unrooted for whatever reason.
My question is since I have an unlocked bootloader will I lose any data when I root my phone? Ultimately my goal will be to upgrade to android 4.3 since verizon is so slow with the updates. Will either rooting it or flashing it to 4.3 make me lose data? Thanks in advance
You will only lose applications and application data. Anything in /sdcard will remain intact unless you manually delete that under twrp or cwm

thanks for the quick response. Is there any way to back all that up without being rooted?
I misinformed you. Rooting in itself will not touch your data or system data. Flashing an already rooted ROM will simply because you have to wipe the system partition
