Hey I'm trying to sell my S3 and after a factory reset and wiping everything in TWRP my name, email address and phone number is still under About device/Status. How do you remove this info? I really don't feel comfortable selling it to a stranger with all that info remaining is there a better wiping method? I'm not finding this anywhere. Thanks in advance.

This gets set when you activate. You may be able to clear it with ##rtn# but you will need your msl.

Is it a hassle to obtain your msl? When I had an HTC evo lte it was as simple as running an app with root permissions.
w
Edit : the only is on MB1 and per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t= I need to downgrade and flash an LJ7 ROM which will let me get the code via terminal. So after I obtain my MSL I just go in the settings and delete my info right?

You are correct about the downgrade to get the MSL. There is a root app but it stopped working a while ago. I know that under the ##rtn# screen there is an option to Reset the activation data but I am not positive that will clear the phone number.

Yeah I'm not certain either yet but under edit in ##DATA# or ##rtn# it seems like you able to maybe add all 0's (I hope) for my cell and make a fake email.

Ahh so simply flashing an LJ7 ROM while currently on MB1 doesn't downgrade? I've found this http://www.android.gs/downgrade-sprint-galaxy-s3-jelly-bean-stock-rom/ and it says to use ClockworkMOD recovery but im currently on TWRP. Will TWRP work or is there an easier way to execute this? I flashed an old The Peoples ROM but it still shows me being on MB1. Will flashing a firmware only zip fix this?

I've done this before to sell my Sprint S3 and can confirm that the dialer method does not work when rooted. In oder to do what you're requesting you'll need to transfer your account to another device. After doing this, the best way to clear out your info on the S3 and sell it is to
1) download the app "Get My MSL". It will most likely give you an error when tapping the "Get My MSL" option in the app at first.
2) open dialer and enter ##DATA#
3) When prompted to enter MSL code just choose any single digit number and enter it 6 times
4) once the popup message appears go immediately back into the "Get My MSL" app and select the option again and it will give you your MSL code. Make sure to save the code somewhere safe.
5) Now that you have your code, ODIN your phone back to complete 100% stock with the LJ7 stock tar file.
6) Once done, skip through the setup wizard upon first boot up and go straight into your dialer and enter ##786#
7) select "Reset" then enter MSL and hit "OK" .
8) select "OK" again on the "Reset to manufacture defaught" popup. It will reboot your phone.
9) Let it do it's thing in stock recovery and once booted up cancel the hands free activation and everything should be cleared out in "About Phone" in settings.

Awesome thanks! I'm selling my phone with it rooted though can I do this and wipe all information and just flash a stock ROM? Do I have to ODIN back to stock LJ7 to completely wipe my phone and email address or can this be done with MB1? I was on The Peoples ROM MB1 and flashed an old LJ7 ROM but it still says MB1 baseband in the settings, will this still work? I don't have WiFi access to check if this worked I will this afternoon. The build number for the firmware (aka modem/radio) is separate from the build number of the rom itself. Go into the dev section and search for a the LJ7 modem and flash that

Follow the procedure above actually to the dot. Why? because If you try doing this while being rooted I GAURANTEE you will have problems and will wind up coming back here asking for help again but this time with another issue. To save you the trouble I highly recommend following the steps above. ODIN back to complete 100% stock LJ7. I've heard of some people not having much success trying this on MB1 but I haven't tried it myself as I am no longer with Sprint but I still support the forums. The last I have tried it on was on LJ7 and I along with many others have had success on that build so LJ7 would be your best bet. Modem and build are separate but flashing a tar file through ODIN will update everything, including the modem back to LJ7. If you wanna sell the phone rooted on the latest firmware then again follow the steps and after you've gotten through the last step, make sure to be connected to wifi so you may receive the MB1 update and then FINALLY root it. It may sound like a lot to do but it's really not.. so long as you know exactly what you're doing. Following this procedure is not only your safest way in selling a phone but it's also the BEST way to fully clear your ESN! (even after deactivation) Like I said I did this and my buyer was 100% satisfied.
Good luck!

not difficult at all. You can unroot back to any of the stock firmwares that have been released on the Sprint S3. The problem is that many of the links here are broken and I'm trying to prevent you from unrooting all the way back to an ICS stock firmware requiring you to accept 1 too many OTAs. So Like I said I recommend LJ7 but I just realized I actually did wind up deleting the LJ7 file on my pc when I switched to T-Mobile. My apologies but I did manage to find one of my subscribed threads that will return you back to stock MB1 without a pc. They are flashable zips, just like flashing any ROM, and the op says the MB1 issues have been fixed. Again, I wasn't able to test this out but it's intended to do the same work as ODIN so it's worth a shot and a much easier approach. Report back with your results and good luck!

First of all, in this case don't worry about flashing any modems. Also, ##DATA# is what you'll need in the beginning to obtain your MSL. ##RTN# or ##786# is what you'll be entering at the end to return to manufacture default. To keep it simple for you, just follow the same step by step procedure I posted in the previous page BUT once you get to step 5, replace that with the MB1 post above and once done proceed to step 6 and so on. As long as you follow my instructions correctly you should have no issues.

My friends has a gs3 he purchased on release day and rooted it. The past week he accepted two ota's which broke his root. So I'm trying to root it for him but here's where the confusion kicks in. On sprints website it actually show these updates are old and not new and there's two more recent ones he never got pushed to him. Right now the phone is on LG2 and won't update any further. What do I need to do to be up to date with root. Should I just look for a way to root this build or try updating it. By the way I haven't seen any root methods for this build which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

The method he used to root it in the first place should work again. Try that.
Then once it's rooted again go to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Download the file "LI3 STOCK WITH AUTO COUNTER RESET" in the first post and flash the file in recovery. That will put the phone to 100%stock, unrooted, on the latest build.
From that point, if he wants to, he can reroot the phone and install the latest TWRP recovery. After that, tell him not to accept any OTA updates. Come back here to the development forum and someone will have the update in flashable form so that root isn't lost.

Yup thats the most easy way of doing it. you say ur not rooted but do you have custom recovery? If so then re rooting before the flash wouldn't be necessary.
It will not wipe data however its recommended that you do. granted it will probably work just fine if it being installed over top of a stock Rom. Then to keep root/recovery just follow the instructions in the post

I'm not sure if he has a custom recovery but I'm assuming if he was able to accept ota's and install them fine he must have stock recovery. I'll have to check and see a lil later as he's at work now.

Yes it is stupid proof but it also makes you have to take an extra step to reset the count. On my phone I just deal with the Odin OC which don't mess with your counts and come rooted then mobile Odin for the rest. Never have to worry about a flash count. But anyways thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to try and get this done tonight. Even though we both going for the note 2 in just a matter of days

I have it don't fix it. It's some left over code if you flashed an LK8 rom and went back to an LJC. I have run throught every format option in TWRP and used Odin to flash a factory stock image. No one seems to know where it's coming from!

Just my 2 cents, my experience with this error.
I'm getting the Chameleon FC, and the persistent HandsFree Activation on every reboot. All started when I lost wifi on the LK8 update zip (I was rooted, thanks to Voodoo OTA rootkeep), and tried to get back to LJC...
I'll quote myself from another post (written in a slight daze late last night:

interestingly, it didn't fix it... "preparing network", "hands free" and chameleon FC on every reboot. this is after the rooted full restore OC. what am I missing? weird.
(history: I was rooted stock w/ twrp from the mskip toolkit method of rooting, got rid of twrp using the mrRobinson stock w/ root, and flashed the sxtp update to lk8, got a wifi failbug and tried to get back to stock rooted using mrRobinson and started getting this issue. lol. ok. so... one-clicked your rooted full restore, still there. is that even possible?)
well, my phone seems to work, as long as I don't reboot.

Installed TWRP with GooManage, restored a BU from my orig rooting using the toolkit, no luck, same two errors.
So then I OneClicked the Full Restore (SPH-L900_LJC_Stock_Restore.exe), and wtf, still there.
As I mentioned in my quote, it (the Note2) works, not broken, but I find the persistent error worrisome.
I am open to criticism, suggestions, whatever. What am I missing?

I suppose that it's worth noting that I get no errors whatsoever on flashing, OneClicks, or Odins. Although, on stock recovery (I think?) I seem to remember seeing the Android on its back w/ a red triangle?
Confounded. :banghead:
Ive never had to do a logcat, but willing to do whatever it takes on the direction from a Dev or one of our esteemed Contributors, if it will help solve my (and obviously several others) issue.

I've try every method but no luck. What in the god's name went wrong.
Sprint is apparently replacing these for this error. If you go into the store and have them look at it. I've been told that Sprint is replacing these devices as there is no fix until the OTA is released. That's just what I heard.
I would definitely be back to stock before paying then a visit.

Thanks! not exactly the answer I was hoping for, but an option. I am at least able to get back to stock w/ 0 flash counter, so I feel safe that they can't tell me it's *wink* my fault *wink*.

Finally a light at the end of tunnel.
Has anyone tried odin back all the way to ALJ1. I know T3project had a link to one the repartitioned everything basically making it completely fresh. This is how he fixed his no connection to network problem.

Do you have the download link for the ALJ1? I'm gonna try that to see if it work.
I went back to lj1 and let it update to ljc. Errors stuck around. Only way I've avoid the errors is by leaving phone with lk8 which lucky for me works perfectly.
I did try the store replacement thing but they wanted to give me a refurbished phone as replacement. I am going to wait for an update and cross fingers it works without error.

I bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S 3 LTE with model number SGH-T999L. I used Odin V3 1.85 to flash TWRP recovery and CyanogenMod 10.0.0.
Everything went well but my camera doesn't work. On launching the camera, I get a "Can't connect to camera" error and it quits. The same behavior is observed when using other camera apps. I tried the instructions in this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239414) but it did not fix my problem. I now want to go back to my stock ROM. I successfully downloaded and flashed stock recovery using Odin. However, Odin fails when I try to flash the stock ROM obtained from the samsung website. It gives me a "write failed" error and stops. Any tips or suggestions to help me out would be appreciated. Thanks
Is it supposed to use T999 firmware?
Only odin flash T999L firmware. I dont see it released yet at samsing-updates.com though.
Maybe samfirmware.com? I can look later.

Why not reflash the stock ODIN flash rom and make sure it all works ok for you, that will tell you exactly what the problem is.
If the stock rom is working properly, then there is only one thing left which is the culprit and that is the CM10/AOKP/AOSP
or PORTED roms which many people seem to like flashing.
The CM10/AOKP/AOSP and ported roms are excellent if you are a developer or if you like to do a lot of experimentation with your phone.
So the thing to do now is reboot your phone to recovery mode, do a "Factory Reset", "Wipe Cache", "Wipe System" and "Wipe Dalvik".
When that's done Open Odin and put the stock rooted T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 into Odin's PDA slot, go into download mode
and once you see Odin is connected to the phone start the flash. Have patience for the phone to boot after its done flashing.
Here is the stock rooted Odin flash T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 rom that you can download if you like: T999_UVDMD5
Official JB Firmware - Latest JB 4.1.2 Firmware
My suggestion to you is to only flash Samsung T999 Tmobile stock based Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 roms in the future.
But who am I to say whats best..... This is just my personal opinion...... Which usually is not worth a dime. LOL
Sorry, but untill we know more about it, I would not flash T999 firmware onto the T999L.
Its only been out a day and tgey are different model phones with different hardware.
If you decide to try anyway, please post your results

I am a newbie. I thought the T999 was the same as the T999L. That would explain why Odin doesnt flash stock T999 onto my device. Can anyone here post a link to the stock SGH-T999L ROM?
Just did a quick check and I dont see that the firmware has been made available for download yet.
If you want stock I would flash one of the stock based custom roms via recovery for now.
Out of curiosity, what is your current baseband version?

I had the same issue with the same phone. Got it 2 weeks ago haha. Did you happen to make a backup first using CWM Recovery? If so, you can just restore that backup and you'll have your camera functionality back. It's pretty annoying switching back and forth from CM10.1 back to stock just to take pictures but Rom manager makes it pretty quick and effortless.
Actually now that I think of it, they prob wont release the original firmware. Seems like the first build is never available, only when an update is released do we get firmware we csn download.
I am working with another member on getting something going for the T999L, but right now we are stuck until a verified safe method of rooting is found. (Dont want to flash a recovery or cf autoroot w/o knowing it wont screw something up)
Itll happen, but we just gotta be patient.
Just reread the op and see that you say you flashed TWRP. So you were able to initially gain root without any problems?

I used Odin to flash Clockwork Mod recovery first. I did not like Clockwork Mod's interface and reflashed with TWRP. I had no problems to gain root with either of these methods. I also tried Cyanogenmod stable 10.0.0 and then 10.1 RC2 without any problems. As far as I can tell, all apps work except for the camera. One word of caution though. As you can see from my posts, I am new and dont know what I am doing. I might have just gotten lucky since my device is still unbricked. I had only one "scary" moment during the entire process. I used TWRP to wipe my phone clean and was stuck with no OS install file. ADB sideload did not work since it could not recognize the device at that point. Luckily, I had a micro SD card lying around and was able to put in a new OS install file using my laptop and then TWRP was able to handle it.

Wish I had made a backup! Could you zip up the files contained inside "/system/cameradata/" folder and post a link here? It would help me and anyone else with the same problem restore the camera's functionality. In case you want to try it out, follow the instructions in this link but using the files from your stock backup

Mine was failing with this same error. I reverted back to stock, re rooted, then downloaded the flash directly to the phones internal storage. Worked like a champ. I think in my case, there is an issue with the SD card, its kind of old.

So I have my S4 unlocked and am using it with Metro now that they started to offer SIM cards. Everything works great with the stock T-Mo ROM. However, I would just for a day or two like to use the Metro ROM. If anyone is willing to upload a copy or knows where I can get one, let me know. Thanks.
Also waiting on this anyone have any info. Also if anyone does upload or find one will this stock rom bring everything back to stock including the recovery mode to make it look as if nothing ever happened. I guess what im really hoping for is a stock firmware anyone have a download link to one. or know of any info.
You guys should be able to use samsung keis .I used it to get back to stock when odin failed on me and it works .However you must provide the full model number and serial number of the device for it to work and it works like odin but its slower but it works it always a good when you have options especially when you need to revert to stock rom in order to send it in for repair's or exchange after you have downloaded samsung keis on your pc or laptop go ahead set it up and you will see the tabs at the top it will be the one on the right click it and follow the directions to the letter and if you've done everything correctly it will install the stock firmware and rom to your device and when its done it will reboot the s4 and your back to stock good luck

Hey thanks for the advice but for some reason samsung has not support for our device yet i installed kies before reading this trust me i tried looking everywhere for the stock firmware. in keys it just says your device is not supported. but what is weird is i dont know if i should call it a tmobile phone or just a knock off tmobile phone reason for this is. in google play store if on browser it asks u witch device to install to and it says the correct device number but at the end states tmbile. now even in kies it does this it says m919n tmb for tmobile. so im not sure what to do should i just flash tmobile firmware and then just unlock it cuz i mean from everything im coming up with it just seems that this s4"metropcs" phone is just a tmobile phone with an n and if thats the case a tmo firmware should work on it right??
Before you start flashing firmware's did you take out the battery .because thats where you can confirm that it is a sgh m919 if there is another letter at the end of m919 then you should do more research that way you dont end up with a bricked device. However if it's sgh m919 I would flash the M919 firmware for tmobile and call it a day and by the way you can get the stock firmware from chain fire's thread

Since you have a M919n, notice the N at the end of the model number, why don't you do a factory restore and save the image before you boot up again? Once you have that back up you can then upload it and share
This is all assuming you have the stock Metro ROM to begin with.

I really need the Metro Rom cause I just rooted it and wanted to unroot it and I couldn't find the metropcs stock firmware so I used T-Mobile's by accident and I can't switch back to The metro rom! I really need it.

Ok, here's my story. I rooted my MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy S4. I wanted to unroot it but used the T-Mobile .tar file when I was unrooting it and now when I boot my phone, it shows T-Mobile on the booting proccess, though when I am brought to the lock screen, in the bottom it says MetroPCS. Does anyone know how to go back to original stock firmware? I don't know how to get it for the MetroPCS version.
Tired of waiting. Went with 4.3 GPe, haven't looked back. Owning a Nexus 7 I couldn't be happier. Still wouldn't mind trying out that Metro ROM for fun. There is a demand for it. Just saying.

Thx, I look foward to it, also I have a question. How exactly do you upload a tarp stock backup, my family member also has the galaxy s4 from metro and I could borrow it from him and upload it but the problem is I don't know how to.
Well number one you will need to root it and numder 2 you will need to install a custom recovery and number 3 once your custom is installed I suggest cwm and the person that needs the tar backup must also have cwm custom recovery as well .boot into recovery and do a complete backup .When thats done go to cwm backup folder and you should see the tar backup .now you upload it to where ever you need it and that s it on your part is done .Now it's up to person you've uploaded to and all he or she needs to do is download it and then move it to the cwm backup folder and when thats done your ready to flash the backup all should go well as long as the stock tar backup doesn't get corrupt .good luck

The best thing to do is flash back to stock MG2(if you're on Boost/VM) or MD4 if you're on Sprint, via an Odin Tar. Before you do that, if you're rooted, run triangle away, then flash. That will wipe everything except your sd card, including root. There are tars of both floating around. Try android forums if you can't find them here. Good luck.

Use a full restore as it will crash constantly since you are coming off cm or aosp. Also remember you will need to be on md4 to flash back to custom once you diag. Is done so its kind of time saving just to Odin the MD4 1 click full restore then just go in.. BTW why are you going in for the diag any way? Don't worry about loading any apps other than what you'll use as I have had them full restore my phones to "fix it"

i can't use the one-click since I have a Mac, so I'm going to have to use Heimdall (always an adventure). I can't receive texts, and Sprint has no clue why, so they want me to have diagnostics run.

Happened to me once when i was with att. Funny thing was it was caused by Verizon categorizing my number as a landline. I guess we uses so many of Verizon's towers that it completely screwed me up lol.

So I went in today (after trying yesterday, but the store wasn't servicing phones) and they have no idea what's wrong with it. Like no clue. So I'm just expected to pay my bill and not have full use of my phone
