My Galaxy Nexus with the update 3.16, yesterday after reboot it forgets my google account, today after a freeze i remove the battery, i noticed that it was in a boot loop, so i decided to enter in recovery, and flash again the 3.16 and AK 207 kernel with wipe cache and dalvik. It boot, but few apps, about 10 i think, vanished and all apps data lost, my data like photo video etc. still stay in memory. When i try to install from playstore for example "switfkey keyboard", i can't it give me an error 923 or like in case of "Where's my water?" the phone freeze.
Now i flashed the 28 march update, is there anyone like in my condition??Solution? I want recover my apps data
P.s.
i used PA from 11 febbruary and flashed any update wiping only cache and dalvik
THANKS to EVERYONE help me
Seems like data loss. Start fresh, flash factory images and start over - should be quite easier now. Could have been the kernel, or the ROM.

I think that my app all are still in memory, bacause i don't notice more free space in memory, and bacause if i try to install one of the svanished app it give me error "-24" now. What i care is to recover my app data, after that i can wipe all and make a clear flash.
At this point, I don't recommend anything else than a clean factory images flash.
OK, i think i haven't got other choice...:crying:

So I just flashed Juggernaut 3.69 to my GS2 and after it was all done I was very surprised to see many of the T-Mobile apps still on the phone. I was even more surprised to see that I didn't have to go through the setup process again. It even remembered my Google account info. Have I missed something here? Every other device I have ever flashed completely overrode the stock ROM with the custom ROM, why has that not happened here? I want that T-Mobile crap gone!
It should cone with an app called "bloater" you can remove those apps from there. And did you wipe data/factory reset? If not that is probably why your gmail is still there
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

I followed the instructions to a "t" and they didn't say to wipe data/factory reset. I did see bloater after I posted this. I'll do the factory reset and see what happens. I just don't see how a custom ROM can flash over a stock ROM and the device still retain previous settings. If the stock ROM was truly erased I would expect a clean slate when the custom ROM has finished installing.
Wiping data is a choice, you can if you want, but it's not frowned apron if you don't lol

Oh, no you don't NEED to factory reset, I'm just saying that is why your account was still there.

i don't know about you guys
but every time i upgrade Juggernaut from version to version, i need to do a full wipe, else it just constant FC or reboots
that's the great benefit of Ti, just hit restore all, come back in a few minutes, done!

The only time I've wiped my phone was when I test a different ROM on my phone. I use juggernaut as my daily and I don't wipe when updating... No FC or reboots here

If I don't wipe, I feel my battery drains faster than it normally would if I did wipe. So, I always wipe just in case
I was on Jovy's DarthSralker and wanted to try Puremotive Galaxymod with multi window.
As usal i flash ROM with wiping cache, delvik and factory reset. Galaxy mod started well but i make a mistake by restoring data from recovery . then it started giving fc and msg was also not working. So i wanted to go back to previous ROM ( DarthStalker v8) with restoring nand backup but it never succeed. It stoped at boot logo (samsung galaxy s3 ) .
I was able to restart into recovery and download mod.
I i tried wiping cache , delvik , factory reset and even wiping system and internal sd card.
I tried to install three roms that were in my external sd card. Tried to restore nand of my 4 previous roms. But no success. They all says success and end on samsung galaxy s3 logo.
Then i decide to do odin. I was at work so i thought of charging full and doing odin later. So i leave it on charge. The battery sign show up and went. No led working.
After like a hour ; i checked and re led was there woth battery charging sign.
I restarted and it worked. Before i put on charge i did flashed DarthStalker v8 so it was there . wow
I tried for 4 hour on recovery.
Have any1 experience same problem? What causes this ?
Now i am on jovys v8 but i will be thinking 100 times to do flash again .
After working my 4.2 camera is not working and i got this on my gallery.
Now i got this
Not sure of the android versions of your rom but if it's 4.2 you need clockworkmod recovery 6.0.2.3. There are different SD card locations in 4.2 versus 4.12 and lower so it won't recognize pictures and other SD card data.
Double check your android versions and Google clockwork mod recovery. Download it flash it and re-wipe and install rom again.
You might wanna try two things out.
First the usual. Go into Gallery and clear cache and data and then fire it up again and see it that works.
Second, use a file explorer with "show hidden folders" enabled and go into DCIM and delete .thumbnails Then fire up the gallery again and see it that works.
I haven't check out PureMotive's ROM yet, so I am not sure if 4.1 or 4.2. If that is the case, then Tom may be right with the pathway issue being the problem. /data/0 type thing.
Thanks guys. Gallery is not a big issue for me. For me unable to boot phone is bigger problem via restore and new rom.

Did you happened to install Google Wallet there? I actually have issue when wiping dalvik cache after hacking the phone to install google wallet. It might have to do with the state of the phone when the cache was built in the first place. My lessons learned is that if I have google wallet in my nandroid image, don't do dalvik wipe. Don't know if you have the same issue or not.

Nop i dont have google wallet in any of those roms.
I remember After few times i was getting error on delvik cache wipe .
sometimes installing mods can mess up the rom. so i try to avoid it
i just tried restoring v8 but stocked on samsung galaxy s 3 logo.
Okay all the sudden on CFX 4.2.2 I am having weird issues, I converted google search to a user app, then back to a system app, and it would constantly crash, I now try and format the phone ie: wipe date/cache/dalvik and reboot into the ROM, I no longer get a prompt about a gmail account or anything like that and the ROM boots right up with no gmail notifications or anything, and google search still isn't working, why can I not format my phone lol?
I even tried re-flashing the ROM after a full wipe/format and it still is all beyond messed up?
WTH, even after a fresh ROM install with no flash over with GAPPS, it's still on the device like it was never formatted -.- im using CWM 6.0.1.5, i've never had issues with this recovery or anything, now all the sudden it's like GAPPS will not delete from the ROM.
Okay, a different attempt at flashing a completely different ROM then reflashing CFX, reflashing a different ROM got rid of GAPPS, so now im in the process of reflashing CFX to see if that fixed my problem, if it did idk why wiping the ROM itself wouldnt get rid of GAPPS.
Okay that fixed it =S.
I take that back, nope i guess im just screwed lol.
Okay i've come to the conclusion that something is just wrong with the ROM
Did you wipe the System partition before installing the new ROM? When you flash the GApps zip file in recovery, it writes those to System. Therefore, if you just wipe Data, they will still be there. Also, always do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) when switching to a different ROM.
I was using Xylon 2.4.2 with AK Rubic r3 kernel for quite some days. Since yesterday the phone started to re-start randomly. So I decided to flash new version of AK Kernel.
Went recovery and flashed the new kernel (Diamond 99) then wiped cache and dalvik. --> ROM stuck in bootloop. Went back to bootloader and flashed Rubik -> Started, "Android is upgrading" -> Optimising app x of 214. Then stuck forever on "Starting apps".
Flashed the ROM again along with gapps -> Stuck on boot.
I don't know what to do :crying:
Any help?
I don't want to do a factory reset
unless you did a nandroid before you did all of that crazy flashing, i'm guessing factory reset and start over is in your future. not that big of a deal, you won't lose anything on your sdcard. plus, you get to start fresh and install the kernel you wanted to originally install.
1. Make sure you have the ROM, Gapps, and kernel you want on your phone.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Wipe cache, dalvik, and system
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash Gapps
6. Flash Kernel
7. Boot
If that doesn't work, you might have something screwy in your data partition that will require a factory reset.
I tried, did not work.
Ultimately restored a Nandroid taken 1 week back :/
What does wiping how /system do? It clears all installed apps ?

It clears the entire /system partition (your ROM installation). Installed user apps are left alone (since they're stored in /data/apps). Most ROMs do that as part of their install scripts, but some still don't and they can sometimes have issues with files that are left behind from other ROM installations. I've gotten into the habit of doing it every time I change ROMs, even just on my Jellybro CM10.1 nightlies updates.
Ok great thanks for the headsup!
App data will remain intact if I wipe system right?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
App data should remain intact however some of your data left over can impact system apps also so if you have problems wipe it all. Also if you run into that problem again you can erase the boot partition and flash kernel again. That has worked for me in the past. In adb:
Adb erase boot
You can do the same for all partitions. If I really want to start squeaky clean I do this. Not sure if it matters or not butbit makes me feel all fuzzy.

Hi, in the last minutes i've flashed the 2.7 build of LiquidSmooth Rom from the Paranoid Hello Halo rom... I've done the prcedure like XDA said : Wipe Wipe Wipe (cache, dalvik, system) Flash Rom Flash Gapps. It booted fine but all my apps that i've had on my previous rom was still there... all of them. The most disturbing is my settings were also like I've left them ( disabled pie wifi etc) also my Google Accound was already setuped and good to go. Is it a new feature from flashing 4.2.2 rom to an other 4.2.2 rom ? I've never seen that before. I've also rebooted to make sure it wont boot loop on reboot, and it booted like a charm!
Any clues ?
Weird, never seen that before. Tell us what recovery you have and exactly what you are wiping. Can't think of anything else at the moment I'm sure others will chime in.
Sounds to me like you're not wiping /data. This is where your apps and setting are stored and unless you factory reset using stock recovery, deliberately wipe/format /data, or flash a Rom that wipes it for you, all your apps and settings will remain.
Seems like normal behavior to me.

Ya I re-read it and he just wipes caches and system, definitely need to factory reset lol.

Got it that's why. I was sure wiping system would wipe data too. But do you think its dangerous to not wipe data? Because actually my ROM is rocking right now without issues? Should I reflash it for safety?
It just depends....
It's always best to start clean, especially if you were having problems. But if you want to keep data intact, you should be ok as long as you don't go to an entirely different rom, base, or build.
If you are updating to a newer version of the same build, you're fine. Also if updating to a newer build/version you should be ok, but may have a few hiccups.
However, anytime you go backwards (4.2.2 to 4.1.2) you should wipe it all. The same is true if you are moving to a different base, such as CM to TW. Keeping your internal sdcard data is usually ok, but sometimes it can cause some issues.
