I've tried it, but you do not delete the messages.
I also tried history eraser but does not work

Once backed up/synced go to:- settings/apps/all/contacts storage and press clear data. it pops up a warning to say everything will be removed. once its done sync contacts from google account. just tried this and all my contacts are back but not the frequents

Are you using the stock HTC messaging app? If not, that could be the source. Also, have you installed any apps that have ads? That could also cause your popups.

I am using stock messaging app. I have a bunch of apps installed, but how can I know which one is the culprit.

It's not something to do with your carrier is it? For example, with Vodafone you can get stuff text daily from them. In the app draw there's a Vodafone one that I can select news, weather, jokes, horoscopes etc.
Thats an alert message. I stumbled across how to make that happen on any phone a while ago.
When you send a text message put !! As the first two characters. It then by passes all app settings and pops up.
Never posted as it would be abused.......

Hi does any one else get a problem with the stock message app it sometimes shows the contacts number instead of there name upon receiving a message but if u click there picture and then send message it flicks from there number to there name which fixes it until u next open or receive a new message then it flicks back to the number
It's driving me nuts because half the time I don't know who there from unless I click there picture and click view or send message
Does anyone have a fix I'm willing to donate some money

Try to backup your sms/mms messages with MyBackup Root from Google Play, delete all messages from the messaging app, restore the backup and immediately reboot your phone.
Something like that already happened to me and I fixed it this way. Good luck!

What I write below applies to the EQDKP Sense 3.5 Rom.
Are you using a startup app manager? If you do make sure you don't disable "Messages" app on startup.
If you do you won't get names on your sms. Only numbers. Happened to me. I spend lots of time fine-tuning my phone so that it does not load unneeded stuff.

I don't use any startup manager
I've also noticed that it always shows numbers in the notification popup and in the pull down bar if there clicked but if I click messages it shows the names
Very strange anyways thx for ur imput

Make sure you have the contact's full international number in your contact list, ie. +44 for UK numbers
Got it thx man
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA Premium App
That was usefull. Thank you.
weird i have the same problem and i dont think adding the international code before the contact number is a valid option cz this didnt happen in the stock rom so i believe there is a fix out there !
Hey guys just help me out here I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove the Facebook Contacts that I have synced by mistake.
Have tried every method including full erased my fone(Yeah!) but when I install Facebook they just appear again.
Even if I turn off Facebook sync.
Its ****ing killing me.

Go to your contact list and click phonebook in the top left. Uncheck facebook and follow any confirmations.
This needs to be turned off at two places.
1. Go to Settings > Accounts and sync > Facebook > Untick contacts
2. Go to Facebook > Menu (hold app switching button) > Settings > Sync contacts > Remove all data.
This should take care of it. Hope it helps.
Thanks a lot guys
Its done now.

hi people in previous month my cousin has inserted her SIM card in my phone so all her numbers saved to my phone book and then to Google account, i was thinking that i can use phone and just ignore those phone numbers but after some time they started annoy me. I deleted them and when i connect to wi-fi they appear in my phone again. I can't off contact sync because I'm always testing my new ROMs ( if I turn it off there wont be any contacts anymore). I searched lots of forums but doesn't found anything about it. Do you have any ideas about it?
You can do it from your gmail account

can you tell me where exactly you found it?
If i remember correctly there should be a tab called contacts on the main page after you login. Was it the upper left corner?

I know this is a general question but it applies to any Android device but since im on a s4 ill ask here.
Since the new Gmail update with the new Colorful interface look, which I find useless.... is there a way to multi select all emails in the in box ,to delete instead of long pressing one by one?

Clicking on the colored letter / picture will select the email (as if it were a checkbox).
You can also disable the new look by unchecking 'Sender image' in settings.

:thumbup:Nice, that partly resolves the lengthy one by one delete process, but I sorta meant like a multi select/select all at once, then after just uncheck each one you want to keep.
But I guess only way is to check each email one by one .
Thanks though

Ah, yeah the app doesn't have a 'select all' feature. I suppose the app is designed to cater to users who keep more e-mail than delete.
You can long press on one email then select many.... It will highlight all and you can then delete several at a time.
