[Q] Browsing is blurry and slow - can it be fixed? - HTC One V

Ok, so I just got the HTC One V and I really like it - except for when browsing the internet.
I've tried stock browser, dolphin and chrome, but they all have the same issues:
1) When zooming any text will blur stay that way for 2-4 seconds.
2) When scrolling down or up somewhat fast pages won't show for a few seconds - all I'll see is big white and grey squares.
3) Zooming and dragging seems pretty unresponsive.
The phone is up to date software wise and I'm running complete stock Android.
Is this just the way it is, or can it be fixed? I'm comparing to a HTC Desire which was my old phone, and it's far inferior on the One V - but only when browsing

I'm trying opera right now and it's better, but still not very good.
But is it fixable on custom roms?
I plan on rooting anyway, but I won't bother if this issue exists on custom roms as well. Too much of a deal breaker.
How is it on the the custom rom you're using sera??

Well a working camera/camcorder is an absolute must for me, so I'll have to wait for 4.2, but that's ok.
I'll look around and see if I can't find that rom you mentioned and try it out. If it works that would really be excellent

Hmm ok, so I tried Opera - last one I tried was Opera Mini - and it works really well. No blurry at all, so that's nice...I still just can't abide the fact that I can't use Dolphin or Chrome.
What's your experience Seraz, do other browsers than Opera work well on that rom of yours? It'd be awesome if I could get Chrome or Dolphin working - I would really hate being forced into using Opera.

You should flash a custom Rom to improve your overall all performance or go to settings>developer options select force gpu rendering it should help out

Tried the GPU rendering aswell, but didn't really make a noticable difference.
I'm getting rid of the HTC One V, giving the HTC Desire to my mom and buying a HTC One X for myself. That should solve it.

I made this app for educational purpose
Glad to hear if someone likes it
On my old SGS, everything works great, the animation is smooth just as without SA
Stock browser the same
So far, only ppl with SGS2 and TranformerPad complain about it...
A few days ago I bought SGS2 and I don't see any slowing down
Probably it is related with soft version, I have KH3 (I didn't test on old firmware)

Good Job mate, Just tested the new version and there is no graphichs glitches.
Unfortunately I don't have Galaxy S2 now but I tested it on HTC Sensation which is suppose to be less performer than the S2 because of HTC Sense and had no problems what so ever with it as before the graphics seems slower and animation is jumpy.

Nice app.
The Galaxy S II has a blue tint and I wanted to adjust the colour temperature to be more accurate. Though whites are now actually white, it looks like there's a thick weird tint, kind of like a beige layer placed on top of the bluish under layer.
I was wondering if providing a negative value options for colours would help?
Cheers and great work on the app.
Seriously cool app

Are you noticing lag after 4.0.2 update?

I'm not talking major lag, just a tiny bit when browsing the apps deck or widgets.
Yes, especially when scrolling through the Widget screens. Also had 2 Launcher force closes since flashing 4.0.2 Yesterday. Hope 4.0.3 will take care of that..
Yeah I noticed that as well... it's very slight, but it was noticeable for me right away.
Did you guys have yakju from the start? or switched over from another build?
I immediately noticed it with the keyboard. Slightly annoying .
Same here. GO Launcher is really bad. Stock is a bit "sticky" too.

Switched to the latest version of the 4.0.1 stock build, and things are back to normal again. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't in my head lol
I think I'm gonna wait it out with this image till google releases 4.0.3. Because they obviously broke something in 4.0.2 :S
the only lag Ive really experienced is with google voice commands. After hitting thehome screen button you have to wait a second before hitting the microphone- if you hit it right away nothing happens. Maybe a little lag with the keyboard in the firt 30-45 seconds the phones on but thats it for me. Now signal thats another issue and that ones annoying.

It has to do with the CPU governors, not everyone seems to be experiencing the lag issue which is weird. Got 15min left on mikes 2.1.1 will see if his release runs better, if not restoring to 4.0.1 until 4.0.3
Just rooted mine and my speed issues seem to be gone on 4.0.2. No idea as to why that is.
I too noticed this on the homescreen, browsing apps/widgets, web browsing... I use a live wallpaper and when I scroll to the left or right the live wallpaper stutters and just pressing the home button repeatedly while on home screen... the live wallpaper stutters...
like someone else said... I think it's something to do with the adjustments they made to the CPU governor
Just upgraded to it 10 minutes ago

I personally use MyBackupPro, works great for me. Titanium Backup is a very good app as well. Also suggest to always do/have a Nandroid Backup to go back to just in case.
UPDATE: Anybody that's interested, 2.1.1 eliminated most of the lag I was experiencing on Stock 4.0.2.
thank you sir!

Android 4.0.3 + Franco's kernel is a speed demon!

Just recently upgraded to a 4.0.3 build and wow... The difference is tremendous. 4.0.2 felt really smooth and lag-free but this is really taking advantage of the hardware. It's by the far the smoothest UI I have ever used on a mobile device. Android has really come a long way! I don't think I could ever go back to using a Gingerbread device again
In case anyone is interested in giving it a shot, this rom + this kernel produce amazing results.
EDIT: Removed the video. Just realized some of the phone numbers are readable.
Can't wait for my Nexus, gonna unlock bootloader , root it, and then install 4.0.3

4.03 by itself is a lot better.. recent app button lag is practically gone from that alone..
Franco's kernel does help, of course.. but it was better than 4.02 even without it.

Yeap, I was on 4.0.3 alone before switching to franco's kernel. Both are much faster than 4.0.2. The kernel just gives it a little extra oomph.
As an CDMA/LTE user I guess I can just watch.
Nice, I'm going to wait for the official OTA or flash it manually once it's available because I don't want to lose all my settings.

Quick controls is the feature you activate in your browser. Just go to settings, the last option there is the Labs. Go there and you'll find two "experimental" features, quick controls and full screen. Both are pretty decent. With quick controls you just touch the edge of the screen anywhere on the left side or right side and they'll show up giving you quick shortcuts to settings, tabs and to the address bar.

[Q][JB][ICS?][Stock] Side zoom in "Browser"

Hey guys, just wondering if you guys know how to disable the side zoom in Browser?
I noticed this first on JB roms based on leaks, but I don't remember if it was in ICS.
If you don't know what I mean, basically when you're using browser and navigating horizontally through a webpage, the very side of the device, left or right, will initiate a zoom function. I can only imagine it's a test to get around any possible pinch to zoom lawsuits.
However, it's really annoying! Couldn't find a setting.
hmm, now that I think about it i'll try about::config or one of those. I'll report back, please let me know if you all know how to disable! TY
No, it's on ICS too. It's in the Setting/Emotion.

How odd, I don't see it in the settings motion area.
Just bringing this thread back to see if anyone has a solution. I can't find a way to disable this in Settings/Motion either, and entirely turning motion off doesn't fix it. Really annoying to be happily scrolling around and suddenly have the page start resizing for no reason.
Nope, this is a new "feature"!
Will require decompiling and modding.
Im planning to look into it but not right away. If I get time this weekend ill see what I can do with it.

Anyone figure this out yet? This crap started with jellybean. Stock browser and Dolphin both do this stupid side zoom crap. Firefox and Opera don't. It's so annoying I actually might switch to Opera instead. Dolphin was the greatest but this 'feature' is radically annoying.

Things everybody should do with their Xperia Z/ZL after unboxing.

I'd like to reach out to the ZL community regarding a guide I've written.
It covers common topics:
Get Adobe Flash Player working.
Rooting the phone.
Full-screen navigation - no onscreen buttons.
Calibrate the Xperia Z/ZL display for bettter colours.
64GB microSDXC and exFAT.
Xperia Z/ZL Accessories.
ClockworkMod recovery and Improving Xperia Z/ZL Audio Quality.
Because the Z/ZL only differ in physical build and supported LTE frequency bands, and are otherwise the same phone I hope this guide comes useful.
Link is in signature ↓ thank you!
EDIT: Link to guide for mobile users.

Have you even tried? Because flash is working, and it's working well. But not in Chrome of course,
I've refrained from posting the entire guide here because it's too much to maintain, and I have a limited amount of free time. Will hopefully post a bigger guide in the future, then it might come to the Xperia ZL forums aswell.

Apart from being built differently, they support different LTE frequency bands - they are simply made for different countries.
Otherwise they are the same, the Xperia Z even has the same .434 firmware as Xperia ZL.
The white balance screen calibration is a good step to improve screen image quality. I read somewhere to get 6500k color you need to put it like so. I disabled Mobile Bravia Engine 2 because I prefer neutral color
EDIT: Other thing to add is to remove Chrome and add the standard Browser, much faster and more responsive than Chrome or any other browser I tested. Also use any CPU control app like setCPU to reduce CPU frequency to improve battery life and better thermals

But, after trying the stock I'd have to agree with you n others that it's the fastest, most responsive android browser with flash n full screen support. I was dearly missing it on my ZL (having used it on note2 before). Full screen mod (lmt) with stock browser is simply awesome web experience on ZL screen :victory:!
I'm not fond of rooting or jailbreaking. What is the best browser to use other than chrome.

Sorry if I missed it, where can the stock browser be obtained? It's obviously not in the PlayStore. I've been using Dolphin for Flash which hasn't given me any problems but would prefer Stock,
EDIT: Found the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213079&page=2
The reason stock browser is not included in the guide is because you can't login onto Google to sync your passwords.
Since it's not a fully working solution it's not included, as suggesting it creates more problems than it solves.

also the added benefit to sync webpages viewed on your computer to your phone
For the persons who've got the ZL already:
- First feelings of the screen, colours, viewingangles, contrast? All Sharppanels?
- What are the first feeling of the device, the shape, the size, the weight?
- What about the hardwarebuttons on the right side? Nice, cheapass?
- Do you love the notification led? Can you manually change it? Settings?
- Does the notification led works fine with Stamina Mode on? (not on the Z!)
- More people with a faulty vibrate-motor, that you can hear and not feel?
- What about the little backcover, cheapass, or okay for just use it sometimes?
- Other things you wanna say about the Xperia ZL? Software, hardware?
I had my ZL (6502) now for 3 days.
I love it (coming from Nexus 4).
No issue with the angles and washed out colors...I mean I look at it from only regular angles.
To be Fair it is no Super AMOLED but then the colors look more normal that way. It is all taste.
I love the shape, the small form factor with a 5 inch screen is nice.
The curve on back seems cheaper maybe but is easier to hold. I don't need waterproofing and want to be able to access my ports and also the IR is cool (+ it is $100 less). Mostly it is smaller, I like that.
The power button initially seemed weird, but it feels better in say the left hand than a button on top right.
Love the Camera Button !
Notification led is sexy but I have had stamina mode on so not seeing it unless it charges.
I love the software, just enough to seem nice and not enough to drown you. I did disable google + as I'm not a fan of it.
Hope that helps
Thanks, nice!
