Impossible to flash bootloader - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dears,
I finally decide to post here after strugguling for 3 days...
I'm living in China and I've just purchased a GN2 7100. As I did for my transformer prime, I hurried to flash a custom ROM to get rid of the suck Chinese ROM which doesn't allow to do anything. Therefore, a tablet is not a phone... I flashed omega v16 and I met the problem of: not registered on the network. All is fine on operator side, it works like a charm on my iphone. On my GN2, they can see I'm connected but I cannot call!
I've seen it could come from the modem and that's when I started to understand that there were more than one firmware for the kernel and modem. I could flash the modem to the original version but not the bootloader. I could downgrade to XxDLJ2 (instead of xxdll7), but I cannot flash the chinese bootloader: ZHDCM1. It seems the bootloader goes together with the modem but I don't succeed to do so.
I've tried to flash the stock rom through Odin, but it crashes at the sboot.bin (I suceeded through mobile odin but it doesn't update the bootloader version and I'm still not registered on the network).
Even if I flash chinese custom roms through CMW, it keeps XXDLJ2 bootloader...
I'm really desprate... I cant even reset the countdown since it'll always be 1 due to the wrong bootloader...
I don't know whatelse to do...
Maybe a guru here can give me hope... I've tried anything I could do on my own...
Thanks

Make sure it's not a clone.

Hello Gupta
I could register it on Samsung's website so I think it's a real one don't you think?

I've noticed something weird...
My bootloader should be here: dev/block/mmcblk0p1
I've tried to replace it manually through the custom recovery, but it didn't do the trick. I got pissed off and deleted it to see if it couldn't boot and it did... When I check in dev/block, mmcblk0p1 is back there... Is it pulled from another location?
Another weird thing: even if I do full wipe from system/factory reset/ dalvik and cache, I noticed that my default network speed (2G or WCDMA) remained setup as 2G (by default it was both of them when I loaded the phone for the first time). Is there anything which is not reset properly and could make something not working well?
The thing is that I didn't try to put my SIM at the beginning to see if it was working with the factory build so I'm unable to say if it comes from my flash to Omega or from the phone...
Any idea about those 2 weird points?

If your bootloader is messed up then how come you getting device in download mode
Another thing after exynos bug patched, samsung have black listed older botloader, so once you have newer bootloader, you can't flash any bootloader having black listed bootloader.
anyway try to flash same ROM which was came packed with device, and let's check if that works.
you can flash only modem, just extract ROM file 1 level depper and you will find modem.bin, now flash that modem.bin with 'phone' tab of odin.

There is a way to still downgrade if you want.

Yeah I think in android development as 9000 have posted tool to downgrade, but here too much work still needs to sort out exact issue.

[REQ] & My 1st Day with GT-N7105 (UK)

*Edit: request on Page two*
Hi all,
So today was my first full day with my new device an Orange Note 2 LTE (GT-N7105).
The device is locked to Orange, has the usual Samsung bloatware and the EEsim app.
So I started today with mini battery test, from a 100% charge I dropped 18% in 3 hours with 2 hours screen on time.
- Not a vigorous test by any means but suggest that this device does is not inferior battery wise to the N7100 model. (NO LTE active during test)
I then moved onto rooting, I used the following link and successfully rooted with no problems. READ EVERY WORD OF THE FIRST POST AT LEAST.
I then installed custom recovery using the name guide in the above link.
- Recovery installed fine and did a nandroid (which I later deleted by mistake )
I then checked and my device status showed as modified, and my counter was at 2.
I then flashed a custom kernel with init.d support., again with no issues.
I then installed the sdexternal2sdinternal mod and it worked perfectly.
-
I then wanted to see if I could undo everything.
I flashed this firmware through odin, you extract the file from the zip and place it in PDA (If this cause you any loss in anyway it is not my fault this is not a guide of what to do just info so people know what's what in principal.)
My device booted fine, and still had all it's data, I checked my device status and it said (what ever it says when it's not modified lol), but my counter in download mode showed 3 counts. I hadn't expected to see unmodified status with counter > 0 but apparently that counter doesn't affect that dialogue box. I checked for OTA but none showed, I went to recocvery and wiped data and cache, rebooted, clicked OTA and it found and downloaded. I could not find where it downloaded this file and it insisted on reminding me at least every 3 hours I had to update.
- So now I was on stock firmware, no root, device status unmodified, OTA worked, the phone still locked to orange.
I re-rooted again, flashed CWM as before, wiped data and this time when I booted I got a load of singTel bloatware - I'm not sure why this either didn't appear before or why I hadn't see it. Anyway, I flashed the kernel again and the sd mod and it all work. I used titanium to remove all the extra bloatware. Downloaded a few games with large file sizes, then installed to the removable card and played absolutely fine.
Finally I used Triangle away to reset the counter just to make sure that worked, and it did.
What's next:
Well there are no custom roms for the n7105 at the moment, not even stock roms with root, deoxed, etc, etc, BUT there is someone working on a patch to make n7100 roms work. At the moment flashing an n7100 custom rom on the n7105 will work but no modem activity at all (no network, wifi, data, etc etc) They tried using the n7105 modem on the n7100 but it didn't work, they're working on it but it is harder than they expected. I'll link this later.
Network unlock - the galaxsim unlock app (free from market) is work on the n7100 (apparently) but not on any of the many LTE variants. The dev is working on it, but the way the network lock is store is completely different (at least file names and locations are that's as far my expertise goes I'm afraid) it looks promising though especially if the US handset are different in the same way as ours.
So to recap, the orange (EE) handset can have:
Root
Custom recovery,
A complete SD card for SD internal swap
I'm glad I read your thread, you've done everything I wanted to do to my 7105 but havent been brave enough to try being a noob. Is there anyway you could check the call recording mod works on the 7105 as well before i try it.
Many Thanks from a nervous noob
Glad I could help.
Got a link to the appropriate thread for call recording? Is it an Omega mod?

I dont own an N7105 but if you post a deodexed SecPhone.apk maybe i can enable recording for you guys. No promises though.

Nice write up! To unlock your phone use play store app called "unlock your phone safe & fast" its by unlockunit. They only list n7100 but it still worked on my n7105
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944795 is the link for the call recording mod, its for the stock 7100 so should work on the 7105 but I'm not sure I'm compitant enough to fix my phone if it doesnt lol
This mod crash the phone.

Thank you for trying hopefuly one of the devs will look at it for us. Hope it hasnt caused you too much inconvience
Er just spent an hour getting my phone running again. Nandroid got saved to internal then got wiped! Bed now.

Hope they can come up with custom ROMs soon. This phone is fine on Stock but we can always use some modding!
If anyone can nandroid a stock uk ee locked rom I'd be much obliged if you'd upload it for me.
Edit:
In .tar format would be amazing. Id be really grateful to anyone who could help!

thanks for posting all the useful information so far
Paul
does it have DC HSPA+ 42 the N7105 model
What speeds you getting on LTE and where about's in country are you?
Yes the n7105 has DC H+ 42
In not using lte and don't intend to.

My first day was not as sucessfull as yours lol
I do have a I have a samsung galaxy note 2 im in UK in t-mobile... JRO03C.N7105XXALIJ
but i used the toolkit2 v2.0 to root that was for another build I choosed 1 build JR03C ALIE (teh noob)
my note is rooted, CWM etc etc and stuff but i have no signal no imei ... :silly:
a fellow xda user told me to try chainfire root method...
it roots my phone but not signal, no imei etc...
do you think that i can try to flash that kernel that you mention to see my babe back to life?
( Kernel-N7105XXALIJ-CWM.zip )
Im also downloading the STOCK firmware that you mention in hotfile to try latter..
any help, would be much appreciated
using odin to flash the stock rom did the trick i got signal back !!!!
thanks!!
Glad it's solved. Flashing stock definitely the right solution. Chainfire auto root from the original Dev thread is the wtg
For anyone else who reads this, if you run intob trouble don't flash pit files or re-partition unless a trusted expert tells you to do so. Use pm and be patient.
I'll try to update op later, will attempt a deoxed rooted stock rom for cwm at the weekend if only the Chinese one still exists, just a play thing tho nothing more.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
lol in my noob super excited moment
I wrote the wrong stuff, no need to flash the rom (and wait for hours to download)
the official kernel was enough hehehe
Thanks for you post i was able to get in track, and now that I know i just need to be patient to flash other rom until we get something
cheers!

[Q] Hello, I don't know what is happening with my Note 2 right now... (Possible noob)

Hello! This is my first post on xda as I have usually been able to find a resolution in one of the already asked questions but I might have just played with my note 2 not knowing what I was really doing a little bit too much.
So I'll try and say everything I've done to make it easier to help me.
I bought the phone and I was happy using GoLauncher and stuff but then stumbled upon rooting and custom roms and being able to get new rom releases that aren't out on the N7100 yet.
So this was all good and well flashing ProBam, Cyanongen Mod, Cerberus, Dr Ketans Rom... and when I had finished having my fun.. I flashed a stock rom and went back to using that, however, the other night I flashed Philz Touch 5 and tried to flash a custom rom that I had downloaded previously. ( Well I tried to flash about 5) These were Echoe rom, Hurricaine rom, Dr Ketans rom, Official stock rom and I can't remember the other.
However, all of these roms came up with the '(Bad) Installation aborted' message on cwm, so now through whatever I've done (i think i flashed original root "CFAutoRoot" through odin' I don't have cwm anymore but i CAN access the system menu, download mode and as far as getting on to the actual phone goes, it get's stuck on the 'SAMSUNG GALAXY Note II GT-N7100' screen, and I read a thread (poet) saying that you may have to wait 20 minutes and not be impatient, so I left the phone for 7 hours (to no luck). I am really stressing out and I cannot find a fix to this!
I am currently trying to extract AP_N7100XXUEM16_CP_N7100XXEM16_CSC_N7100XAEM16_BY_WVAZ_DINK.zip with password 'wagnervaz' and it just keeps getting stuck whilst extracting so...
anyhoo I REALLY NEED HELP
I've tried so much and please don't tell me to 'wipe cache, factory reset/wipe data' cause that just doesn't work I've done it about 1 million times and I honestly don't even know what state my phone is in right now, it probably looks like the containment field from beyond two souls inside.
I hope to hear from one of you very clever guys soon, and thank you so much in advance!:good:

[Q] Am I being SCAMMED with this M919 purchase?

Hi:
I bought a Galaxy S4, SGH-M919 (Supposingly from T-mobile?).
When I unboxed it and power on, it appears to have a 4.2.2 ROM (M919 XXUAMC6) from another region (Great Britain or something?).
I can't flash any T-Mobile stock firmware (>=4.3) back into the phone with Odin (always showing failed security check: sbl2 ....).
Also the custom rom install counter is 10 ...
The seller was selling this phone as brand new, also it came with all original packaging.
Just wondering how is that possible?
Am I being scammed?
:cyclops:
Thanks!
Maybe. Or maybe they shipped the wrong phone.. Get Samsung phone info from playstore and check what bootloader it has

Thanks for the reply.
But I believe my phone is soft bricked when I valiantly(blindly) flashed a wrong ROM into my phone.
Now I just want to get my original firmware back.
However it appears that I'm the only one with M919XXUAMC6 rom on the internet.
Is this real life, lol.

You shouldn't have tried to mess with it.. Anytime you see something abnormal in a purchase you should investigate and contact seller but ok, what did you flash and did you factory reset?
I followed an instruction and did a full wipe on my device, data and cache. And I realized Odin can't flash in the room. That's when I got stuck. But I can still boot into cwm and download mode though.
Under the battery, what does it have for a model number there?
Model: SGH-M919
FCC: A3LSGHM919
Post your bootloader. There has been a wave of franken S3's lately with parts from different S3's claiming to be another S3 model. Hopefully that is not the case with your device
Wait, but mine is M919 which should be a S4 right?
Also since I'm semi-bricked already, how do I get bootloader information?
I could try to mount boot block in TWRP and pull up something?
Any suggestion on how to do this?
Try to flash CM, the one for jflte, since its universal it may get you booted
Edit: also don't forget to factory reset
No good. Tried cm-11-20140804-SNAPSHOT-M9-jflte.zip .
When I install the file, it gave me
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed

Try downloading again
Tried the same Rom, redownloaded, same message.
I also tried using this Rom from this thread (Stock Deodexed + Rooted ROM (v1.3))
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2679913
Installing the Rom from TWRP appeared to be successful, however, when I try to restart TWRP still shows me "There's no OS installed".
And the boot hangs on Samsung Logo.
Are you using latest twrp? If so try CWM and latest cm nightly
I'm using TWRP and CWM provided here
http://galaxys4root.com/clockworkmodtwrp-recoveries/
But nope, it is still the same thing.

Is there a way to see the actual installation log? At least i can know which symbolic link is down.
Also whenever I tried to flash using Odin something other than recovery, it gives me "Secure Check Fail: xxx".
Is this because of the boot loader is locking down custom rom?
Those are really old recoveries.. Download twrp from their official site, flash, and try cm again
OMGOMG, it appears it is indeed an outdated recovery.
Gotta love you serio22.
So it works now?
Yup. I still think this is a factory refurbished device though. There is no way to explain custom bin counter was 9 and on custom bin out of the box though. It is really impressive how they come with all the boxes plastic seals etc. Definitely the most well disguised used device I've ever seen.
Don't know, still seems odd to me I've never heard of MC6 firmware

No SIM Card Error after flashing any new ROM

First off, I will say that I am basically new to using stock ROM's and such, though I have previously successfully flashed another phone which worked until the experimental ROM became unstable after a few days, with reflashing yielding the same result.
To the point, using ODIN, I flashed TWRP onto my T999 (after heimdall kept failing for me), and I performed a back up and then proceeded to flash CM 12.1 nightly onto my phone. The nightly worked great other than giving me an error of "SIM card missing" in the setup screens. This of course is a deal breaker for me as this is the phone I wish to use daily. I did my research and found that for many people this was the case, however the network would still work despite the phone's status saying otherwise, though my phone would neither receive nor send texts/calls let alone find any network operators. (I also tried different releases)
I then tried to flash multiple CM 11 official releases but kept receiving "assert failed getprop( ro.bootloader)..... " I even tried the ol' "delete that line of the script" troubleshooting, however the installation would then abort just the same without stating the error.
After both of these failed, I tried recovering my previous back up however it failed every time.
I currently am running PAC ROM's 5.1.1 which yields the same issue as stated above concerning the nightlies.
I have also tried updating my modem as I found under troubleshooting that fixed what seemed to be the same issue for others, yet it never worked for me.
Any advice would be great. I'm sure you'll need more info, so let me know what you need.

What is important here is going to be the base firmware. We need to know what build you are currently running.
To get this, open terminal emulator and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
Let us know what it returns. I really have a feeling this will be the root of all your problems. You need to be running on a matched, 4.3 bootloader and modem. Otherwise the rom will not work right (hence the asserts in the updater-script). If you gave a mismatched modem, none of the radio related functions will work.

Thanks for getting back so quickly!
the terminal returned T999UVUEOH1
Ok. Since that's the latest available, you are going to be limited to only that build. (If you try to downgrade the bootloader it'll hard brick.)
My best suggestion would be to reflash the Full OH1 firmware via Odin, and then factory resetting from the stock recovery. (This will wipe all user data including the internal sdcard.)
Once you are fully stock, I'd the problem continues you can be pretty sure it's going to be hardware related. If that is the case, go to a t-mobile store and ask them to test a new one in your device. (They'll often replace it free if the Sim is the problem. )
Hopefully, everything will be working again though, and then you can try again to flash your rom if you so choose.
Sorry I don't have an easier/better suggestion. Let me know if you have any questions though. (You can get the firmware from my thread stickied at the top of the development section.)

Sorry I don't have an easier/better suggestion. Let me know if you have any questions though. (You can get the firmware from my thread stickied at the top of the development section.)

I took your advice and used your download links, using https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407581038 as was linked to UVUEOH1 on the firmware page and followed your guide .
The phone has now been on the Samsung bootloop for 10 minutes after rebooting it while it was in bootloop for 30+. Any suggestions?
Did you factory reset? You always have to when going to/from TW/CM because their data is not compatible.

I just realized that I skipped that part and it is currently rebooting! I'll let you know what happens!
EDIT: Thank you so much! Is there a particular rooting guide that you recommend? And also, from there, should I be able to flash the ROM normally?
So the network still isn't working, however my SIM works in another phone that I've been using in the meantime. Do you still then suggest that the SIM could be the in error, or would it be software at that point?
Does it see any networks or show any signal with the Sim removed? It should allow for emergency calls only at least.
If it does, go to T-Mobile and test another Sim. If it does not, it's probably a hardware problem.

Having trouble with the service.

My problem started some months ago, when a friend tried to root my phone, he told me that he rooted it but every app that checks for root told me that it wasn't rooted and i couldn't use apps that needed root also, the downside to all this is that i couldn't use apps that do not allow root, like the banking app, or Pokemon Go, but i used the phone like that for some months until last week when i decided to try and fix it. I thought that if i flash a stock firmware everything should be fine and the phone should be as new. On the phone, it says that the model is SM-N910F(behind the battery), in the settings it also said SM-N910F, so i tried flashing a rom for this model at first and it kept failing with me not knowing why. After trying different thing and googleing some time, i finally noticed that in "Fast Download", it says that the phone's model is SM-N910P, so i started searching about this, i didn;t understand why there were 2 different models on my phone, then i found out about searching my IMEI on imei.info, so i tried it and here it was SM-N910C, i had no idea what all this meant, but at this time i already got stuck into bootloop. Eventually, i found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/help-sm-n910f-sm-n910p-bootloader-t3299285 and did what cam_bob22 said, it worked, i finally flashed the firmware on my phone and it worked, i could use the bank app, pokemon go, everything was fine except the fact that i couldn't select or change my mobile operator, when going to mobile networks, the mobile operators options was greyed out and couldn't be pressed(i want to mention that i did have service and that data worked but the internet would work only in roaming and i couldn't get 4G). So i tried updating the software from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 like it was said in the instructions and hopping that this update would fix the issue, but unfortunately for me after the update i somehow lost service completely, the signal sign was in the shape of a triangle with no bars, and the mobile operators setting was exactly as before.
So far i tried going back to 5.1.1 but besides the Hands Free activation that i can't make to go away, i still can't use the mobile operators setting and my data only works with roaming activated and doesn't get 4g. One thing that i forgot to mention is that the IMEI with the 5.1.1 firmware was of a samasung Galaxy S5 not a note 4, i checked it on imei.info.
I was wondering if there is any way for me to go back to the OS i had before my friend tried to root my phone, when it said in the settings that it was SM-N910F and everything worked as it should have.
Thank you for reading and i really hope someone can help me.

There is no way to go back unless he made a backup. Which is why you should always do this before you flash anything.
I'm not sure if this will help but you could try flashing a international custom Rom after you have correct firmware. But if your phone is a Sprint version, you'll have to use a special data fix and kernel.
What firmware did you end up using to flash? Was it Sprint? If so, and you use gsm service, try flashing my Gsm stock Rom for Sprint phones. It's in post 2.

You'll first need to be on current marshmallow firmware. So flash firmware with Odin first, then install Twrp with Odin. Then install Rom with Twrp.

Thank you for the reply, i wanted to say that with the Sprint firmware i used, after doing all the updates it unlocked the mobile operators option, but it couldn't find any.

No, the network operators is unlocked but there's still no service, when i try scanning for an operator it just stops with no message, and nothing happens.
I forgot to mention this, but before all this happened, I made a back-up of the phone with smart switch, is it possible to get back to how it was using that? And another thing is that when using the backup, it only restores music and photos, no contacts, no apps.(From what i've noticed so far)

You would have needed a system backup with twrp.
What country you in? What network you on? What firmware you on?

Ok. About the best advice i can give is, because your on pure Sprint Rom, something is messing up with csc or something.
All i can suggest, is maybe try updating to QC1 with Odin and then try flashing my gsm Rom. Which is essentially just a tmobile rom.
And if that don't give you the function you you need. Then maybe try an international Rom.
It's hard to say what the last person did to the phone.

Also. You stated your phone first showed as a 910f. So maybe flashing a international F rom, will provide the correct csc settings for your phone to work. Only problem your gonna have, is because it's Sprint hardware, you'll have to pair the Rom with a kernel that'll work and some lib files for data.
I can help you by putting together some files to flash. But the main question would be, Do you want a stock note 4 Rom?
Also before any of this happened, do you know what firmware you were on? Marshmallow? Lollipop?

I would really appreciate if you helped me put the files together cause i have no idea how any of this works, i'm new. But i wanted to ask, is there any chance for thia to brick my phone?
When it had sm-n910f on it i couldn't update it after 5.1.1, when i pressed update it wouldn't do anything.
And yes, if possible i would like it to be a stock firmware, but if it is not possible i don't mind using something else as long as it works properly.
Thank you for all your help, i don't know what i would do otherwise.

Well, first, let me state, about bricking device. I have to state that it's not impossible to brick. But after hundreds of flashes never had problem. These devices are hard to brick. What hard bricks a device is messing with boot loader and partitions that shouldn't be messed with, like trying to unlock lte bands. But just flashing roms is fine unless you flash a Rom not for your phone and it over writes wrong partition.
All snap Dragon note 4s have the same layout so all you need is correct kernel, csc, and some ril lib files to get data working.
Now, mine main worry is that the phone is still unlocked, because I don't know what possible changes were made to it.
But with all that being said,I'll move on. With another post.

Before we go too deep into this and upgrade and stuff. I'd like to just test a custom Rom on your phone and see what works.
So what firmware are you on right now?
5.01, 5.1.1, or 6.0.1?
I'm gonna take a guess and move on. You last stated you were on OG5 which it's 5.1.1. So if that's true, let's try the following.
First I'm gonna assume you already used Odin to flash that firmware. So now we need to flash Twrp. So download this on pc https://eu.dl.twrp.me/trlte/twrp-3.1.1-0-trlte.img.tar
1 . Put phone in download mode. Open Odin and plug in phone.
2. In Odin options make sure everything is unticked except Reset Flash Counter.
3. Now click on AP and select the Twrp file.
4. Flash it. Let it flash until it states it's completed. Once done. Unplug phone. Pull out battery. Put back in and boot to recovery by holding power+home+vol.up
5. Now you should have Twrp. Just reboot phone so we can continue to next post.

Ok, here you go. If your where we left off, you should be on stock QC1 and have Twrp installed.
Just download this file, boot into recovery, and install. This file will delete dalvick/cache, so phone will take a few minutes to boot up.
I actually recommend before flashing, you do a factory reset in recovery then install.
Anyhow here you go. Let me know if it fixes what your looking for. If not, my only others option is to install a custom n910f Rom. I'll gladly walk you through if need be. But try this first.

Alright so i just tried it and when starting my phone, i can't even set it up because i keep getting a message that com.android.phone has stopped. After about half an hour of trying to start it, i finally managed to get to setting and to app manager, there i looked for com.android.phone and it was nowhere to be found. Apart from this i noticed a N with some signal bars where my phone signal should've been and i didn;t get the hands free activation anymore, but that's all...
