[Q] Greetings, I understand I have a hard brick? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I first rooted and flashed a KANG JUGGERNAUT ROM 2 years ago, back when I first got my phone.
Just two days ago, a friend recommended flashing CM10 cause it's nearly up-to-date and stuff.
Was instructed to flash CM10 then GAPPS and wipe after; did so, boot loop.
Told me that I was supposed to wipe beforehand? Wish I known, still had soft bricks / boot loops.
Kept restoring and re-flashing; came to a point CWM became super slow, kept hanging when trying to restore/wipe.
Then I chose to flash ROM again, this time it kept rebooting/looping into installation process, hang, fail then rebooting to continue this cycle.
Told friend about it, said he'd look at it when he came over; cause my Odin kept crashing for some unknown reason.
He couldn't get it to stop boot looping so he offered to take back home where he said he had all the stuff he had installed on his PC/MAC.
After awhile he said it wouldn't boot anymore, hard brick.
Afterward he returned it to me, I confirmed a hard brick according to what I have searched/researched online.
Plugging into the USB gives me a connection beep but hitting the power button, gives a disconnect beep? So unable to go into download mode.
I have looked around and found a couple of possible solutions: JTAGGING and USB JIGGING
I'm not sure but I kept seeing a lot of testimony that jigging it wouldn't work on a hard brick phone, can anyone confirm this?
Not sure what JTAG is but apparently is the sure-fire way to get the device in working condition again; is this something I can do by myself?
I see the costs range from $50-100 but I'm not sure if I can afford that right now/tight pockets/strapped4cash/whatever as an unemployed student from LIF with other crazy stuff to deal with.
Worst come to worst, I will probably opt for this JTAG thing.
EDIT: I have this QHSUSB_DLOAD shown in the device manager as I connected the dead device; while searching/looking around, someone said it was fixable but it wasn't in the T989 thread so I'm unsure.
Is this really fixable? and if so, what would this exactly permit me to do after?
Any insight as what options I have? I really would like to get this resolved ASAP.
Thank you for reading; I am also located in NYC, if any locals can help.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S III Rooted/Installed ROM... Now won't power on. Help!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a little help today.
I rooted my new Sprint Galaxy S III using Odin3-v3.04, and CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7. Afterwards I rebooted and all was good.
I then downloaded I9300_Omega_v6.0_XXALF6 ROM and loaded on my phone and rebooted into recovery to install the ROM. I went through the install process, selected remove bloatware and installed. When finished I checked the reboot phone and clicked finish. The phone turned off and didn't ever turn back on.
I have pulled the battery and tried to power on using recovery, download mode and just power but nothing works.
Anyone have any idea what I can do?
Thank you for your time and help.

development area has a thread for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727171
ONLY use ROMs that you'll find here in these threads not the I9300; that s a different phone from ours.
Thanks I'll check there.

New phone on the way!
I was able to get a replacement sent from Sprint. Had to go to a corporate store and have a tech look at the phone and they agreed it was toast...
Luckily they didn't know it was due to my failed attempt to load an unsupported ROM.
Lesson learned... new phone should be in by the end of the week.
I'll be waiting for a supported ROM this time.

Oh man tell me about it, I almost stupidly went on to the CM9 nightlies and downloaded the I9300 version before I thought to myself, "well wait a minute, that's not my model number!"
Duh, shoulda had a V8.
I didnt install a GSM rom but still managed to brick somehow. Didnt touch any system files or do anything to where i should be bricked either. Any idea when a full stock Odin package will be made? My phone has been bricked for almost 2 days now
Edit: i started a tread here a few days ago -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731416 if anyone cares to look or has any advice for me
Thanks

Any luck?
My phone got stuck booting, so I tried to install the omega rom. The install worked well, and I clicked "reboot." Now the phone won't turn on. I can't get to ODIN or recovery anymore.
Did you guys find any fixes?

What happened is that you flashed a rom that was meant for the international version of the S3 and your on the US version. The only fix I have found is to send it to mobiletechvideos.com. I did and they say they can fix it and maybe save my data I have on it ( I just sent it in)
My fingers are crossed for the data recovery but as far as the phone I am going to send it for a exchange anyway.
Welp, I'm sad to say I just did the same thing too. Should have read. I'm a stinkin noob at this. I installed the I9300 version on a US version phone. Has there been any more development on this? Is the hardware fried, or is there a fix through that mobiletechvideos.com that was mentioned? What was the outcome of that, Taygutta, if you don't mind me re-bringing back up a potentially painful topic?? This thread made me a little sick, since it's my brother's new phone (someone else that knew what they were doing rooted it for him but he didn't like the rom, so I thought I would help him find a few other options to try flashing.)
Anyway, any confirmation that I'm buying my brother a new phone (so I can emotionally prepare for the purchase) or are there some other options?
There's one more thing you can try. There's a little device called a USB Jig. It was made for SGS-2 to clear the yellow triangle and reset flash counts in ODIN mode. It also puts your phone in ODIN mode by simply plugging it into the USB port of a powered down phone. Once in ODIN mode, you can reflash a stock ROM, recovery, etc. You can buy these for around $20 or less on the web.
If this does not work, I'm afraid nothing will.
Good luck.

Help! phone won't turn on (t959d koodo)

Hi,
I just got the phone and flashed a custom recovery. I flashed a new rom (liquidsmooth) and it looked like it was successful. I selected reboot and the screen shut off. Now, It won't turn on. It's possible that the battery died but shouldn't it turn on again once I plug in the usb cable? Is it possible to brick the device from cwm?
thanks
Dear lord I hope that's a typo because this is the t989(d) forums. If it is a typo and you're using a t989 then you probably need to wipe cache/dalvik.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
As Mr. Mintharis said... I'm hoping as well that you had a typo and you didnt flash a T989 (GALAXY S2 TMobile) rom on a (GALAXY S) device. If so your probably hard bricked. If that was a typo and you did flash a rom and it wont turn on then there may be a few problems that are solvable. I got a few questions.
1. DId you do a factory reset before installing? Did you wipe system?
2. Can you get into CWM?
3. Can you get into Download Mode?
If you cant get into download mode, recovery, or get the phone to boot then you are in serious trouble because the phone is a a fancy paper weight. If you can however, you could try doing a full reset on all the settings and deleting cache/dalvik and then reflashing and trying again. However you may be in luck since you said you just got the phone. I'm assuming you got it from your carrier (I'm guessing its T-Mobile, idk any other carriers for this device) and they will replace a broken device (that does not have extensive physical damage or water damage) within 20 days of purchase date. Since your phone is hard bricked they will do it completely for free with no charge (usually... if they do.. it will be about 5$) and then you're good. They will overnight a phone to you and you just send your old one back when you get it (MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PROPERLY SEND IT BACK!).
Sorry for the long post but wanted to be through and give you alot of answers in 1 time so we dont drag this post out.
That's my mistake, it was supposed to read t989d.
1) I did do a factory resets
2) & 3) I can't turn on the phone or get into download mode
I bought it from koodo (carrier in Canada) yesterday. I'm going to try to exchange it today; hopefully they'll do it. For future references, is there a specific way I should be flashing? I used to have a t959, the t-mobile vibrant, and never had any issues with cwm because it never touched download mode. Anyways, thanks for the replies.
Edit: I did flash using odin which hung a couple of times. Regardless, i eventually got it back to original condition by flashing the custom recovery (by odin with green pass) and doing a nandroid backup. The bad odin flashes should have been negated when I did nandroid backup, no?
You said you had the problems after you flashed liquidsmooth? Exactly which file did you download and flash from the site?

[Q] Please help I'm soft bricked Sprint Note 2

Yes I am an idiot (point and laugh now) I did something wrong, but have no idea exactly what yet. I searched and couldn't find anything for this version of the Note 2
About 3 weeks ago I updated to the newest version of Whomp, as soon as I did that I would get the hands free activation alert on my phone every time it booted up. It would always error out for code 1500, which is an internal error according to sprint. I was able to still use the phone so I didn't worry about it to much.
Last week the phone stopped switching towers during a phone call. It would drop the call and pick back up at the next tower milliseconds later with full bars. Called Sprint and was advised I needed to update my PRL and Profile, etc. Which couldn't be done because my phone was showing that it wasn't fully activated.
So my plan of attack was to unroot the phone, update everything, then get my root back. Simple enough.
Trying to go back to Stock really broke the phone!
I was trying to flash the stock ROM through Odin last night and it kept erroring out. Now when I try to turn it on or when I try to boot into recovery I get
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I can boot into download mode, so I think it's soft bricked. There has to be some way to fix this... I *might* have impulsed purchased a used Note 2 on ebay last night and the person *might* be overnighting it to me since I seemed pitiful enough. So I have time to get this one working correctly.
I'm just out of ideas... I know when I hard bricked the GS3 (That took a special level of stupid) I mailed it to some place in TX. Is that my only option here? Help please! Also I know just enough to be massively dangerous so use little words please... LOL

i may be wrong, but it seems that for whatever reason you are back to stock recovery, but the rest of it went bad... i would follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 there is a flashable TWRP ODIN tar, so boot into that, flash his MC2 ZIP and you should be good. similar thing happened to me, but i would just at endless bootloop, flashed that MC2 zip and im back to stock. Best of luck
Ha! That's the thread I was searching for. I found the one made for the GS3, but couldn't locate the Note 2 one. Thanks so much! I'll fiddle around with that tonight after work
It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked! You have no idea how happy I am right now!
So now I'm unrooted and back in the stock ROM. I'm going to update my profile/prl/system/firmware then root later on tonight and probably flash the Jelly Bomb ROM
Thanks you for your help! Phone is no longer soft bricked and is activated onto the Sprint account again.

[Q] HELP I think that I have finally bricked my phone!

Hey XDAers,
I need your help. I think my phone's eMmc chip is dead. Today my phone's screen didnt turn on, I suspected it to be just a buggy kernel or ROM so as any other person would do, I removed the battery and rebooted. Well it did reboot although the boot animation (of Vanir) was lagging. Then I got to my lockscreen but when i was entering my passcode it was extremely laggy and it continued that way for like a min or 2 just freezing for like 5 seconds then continuing until it finally froze for like a min and I decided to reboot. Same thing happened, I kept trying to reboot sometimes it would just freeze others it would reboot on its own. Then I went into recovery and fixed permissions... same thing. Then I wiped dalvik cache, same results. I finally decided to connect it to the PC and pulled everything from the phone using adb and made a nandroid backup to my USB flash drive using my OTG cable and CWM, because when I tried backing up normally to the internal memory I was faced with errors. So then as a last resort I just was gonna flash to stock using fastboot (by the Nexus toolkit). While flashing I got an error telling me that the baseband version I have is different than the one required. even though the baseband from the .tgz or whatever file was successfully flashed. So apparently my radio is UGLL1 (I think) and the radio included in .tgz package was XXLJ1 and even though it was flashed, it didnt change. I tried manually flashing the radio and it also didnt change. So i went in the .tgz file and edited the android-info.txt file inside so that it doesnt require the XXLJ1 baseband to be present and instead just the UGLL1. It started flashing but got stuck at flashing the system partition after it was "sent". At this point I started paniking because normally flashing stock solves everything. So I tried using ODIN (my first time with it) and it took 30 mins to flash everything (25 mins just for flashing system. I was feeling optimistic since it was successfully completed.
Then it rebooted and I see the Vanir boot animation >_> WHATTT??? after all these system flashes and wipes Vanir is still present?? Then after it boots it takes my right to my same lockscreen, like the data and system partition weren't even touched!!! And its still lagging and freezing. So I go to TWRP recovery and try deleting everything from /data/media which works then I reboot again in recovery and everything is back ??? I cant wipe anything. I can add things because I remember earlier during this process I pushed a zip file.
I AM DYING HERE OMG MY PHONE IS LIKE MY LIFE. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! I THINK ITS DEAD BUT I'LL TRY ANYTHING :crying:
Same issue I had; unfortunately that is describing the painful EMMC death. Had to buy another GNEX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909331 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354641)

You are not even close to being bricked.
You'll have to give me more information if I'm going to be able to help you. I assume you're rooted. Are you running a custom ROM or stock? Custom recovery? Have you updated your firmware by flashing a file?
When did you first notice you didn't have wifi? Did you do any mods around that same time?
Don't worry dude, we'll get this fixed.

As far as I'm concerned a device is "bricked" if it's about as useful as a "brick" in other words, it ain't doing sh!t. You can only use it to keep the door from slamming shut, or as a paper weight.
Completely dead = Bricked
Can go into recovery/bootloader = Not even close to anything related to any "brick"

That is super weird dude. I would call your service provider or HTC. If you call them on a landline, they can probably push a fix directly to your phone. If you don't have a landline, they will guide you through the steps to fix it.
If it is having issues when it is unmodded and because of an OTA, you don't want our advice. You would have to modify your phone and void your warranty.
There may be/probably is a solution that someone here has that will fix it, but your best bet with 100% stock is to go to the source for a fix.
Good luck buddy!

Let me know how things go. You can quote me here (so I get a notification), or send me a PM. I'm interested in hearing about your results and the fix, in case anyone else on this forum comes across these same problems.

I've seen a couple cases of OTA killing WiFi lately. Most of us are used to seeing broken WiFi as a result of flashing a custom ROM and outdated firmware, so yes its a bit odd to see it after an official OTA.
I agree, that aside from trying a factory reset, the OP shouldn't tinker with a phone that is stock and still on warranty. Just contact your warranty department for a repair/replacement.

"Reset" or even "hard reset" is a bit vague. Did you do a factory reset to delete user data, or just rebooted the phone? Factory reset will sometimes clear up random bugs after an OTA.
Sprint has basically said that they don't know what's wrong with it and I need to send it to them.

For a stock device (not modded) if you've tried a factory reset, and the issue persists, they I would agree that warranty service is the best solution.
