So I was having the same issues as everybody else was with Aroma freezing a million times when trying to install a ROM. I tried a few things but eventually stumbled apon a workaround that seemed to work.
I'll explain what I did then others can try it out. If it works for more/everyone else then happy days. If not then maybe I just got lucky.
OK so firstly I was on rooted stock ROM. I'm sure that it's not important really. But I want to mention every step.
I flashed TWRP recovery.
Rooted etc...Standard stuff
Then I used ROM managed to flash non touch recovery via the app itself.
Then made sure CWM was my default recovery in Rom manager.
Rebooted to recovery from Rom Manager.
Wipe data + caches
Install zip. In my case Trickdroid 5.1.0
Then as Aroma is booting up don't touch your phone for a good 2 minutes. I was actually out doing shopping and got to the till so left my phone untouched as it as on the welcome screen.
Then using the touch screen to select what I wanted etc I just went straight through. Not one freeze or install crash. First time.
I think it could be a few things perhaps. Maybe heat with Aroma putting high loads on the phone. Maybe the extra time sat let it cool a bit before getting going. Also perhaps Aroma just needs a little extra time to fully load properly.
Anyway please try my guide out. Maybe you cab miss some bits out. Hopefully it works. Post up if it did or didn't.
Good luck and happy flashing!

My suggestion is that do not connect the USB cable when using Aroma, you should get less chance of freezing.

Yes. I think this may be to do with the heat increase.

I tried your method this morning and Aroma froze on 30%. Tried it again and it froze on 3%.
Restored my nandroid and half an hour later tried the 'normal' method for installing a new Rom and it went though without a problem.

Tried it ...
It freezed on 80%
Damn seems like I was just lucky then. That sucks a bit.

Actually does it matter if your AROMA freezes or not? Because my AROMA has froze on 2 occasions for both installations (One was 30% and the other was 97%) on both ROMs (Renovate and ARHD) and there were no errors or whatsoever when rebooted right after the freeze. Is it just me or..? Hmmm.

well if it doesnt go fully through i would not trust it flashed fully one bit. i am too paranoid.
Dont use the touch function in Aroma Installer! Choose the options with volume and power button... It works for me!

It doesn't harm your phone it just means it hasn't worked. You have to long hold the power then just try again until it works.

yes only with volume and power button to operate the Aroma installer ...
works for my (previously only problems)

Yes it has been successfully flashed, I was on Renovate ROM before my AROMA installation (for ARHD) froze on 30%. I might have left it there for awhile, thinking that the installation is still going on. I long hold the power button, rebooted and I've successfully flashed ARHD when I checked my settings. No crashes or errors at all.
Try clockworkmod touch freezes less, also I did what someone mentioned to clear dalvic and cache before attempting to install a rom, flashing everything else like trikdroid tweaks works allright..

It will hang on 30% for a while anyway but still be installing. Perhaps you missed it finishing up?

None of these work for me....I managed to get through a full ROM install ONCE but since then I haven't had any luck. Talk about annoying....
aroma kept freezing on me. what i did to finally get it to complete was dalvik/cache wipe in cwm classic first.
once aroma was booted be quick choosing your selections using the power button/volume controls then stuck my hand in the freezer with the phone monitoring the install so when it would complete i could be quick to click the next and reboot buttons.
I tried all recoveries.
Aroma always freezes/crashes.
This is so annoying.
I think at this point it is more of a luck of the draw type of things. I have tried a lot of combinations and after trying like 20 times, it finally went through. Still freezes if I want to install tweaks or themes but less than for a ROM....go figure.
I think everyone should have a go at unchanging between the home key for advanced and occasionally if it's stops vibrating feedback then use next button.
I've had a lot more success this way

What works for me EVERY time with zero freezes is when you are at the first Aroma screen, hold both volume up and volume down at the same time, then push power while holding all three. It will advance to the next screen. Do the same for every screen and dont touch the screen unless you are selecting to remove or add something. I also found that if I wait too long on a screen before making a choice, it will freeze.

On both Blazer (w/ rogue and Lost Kernel) and Calks 2.0 (only tried rogue) whenever I reboot my phone nine times out of ten, it hangs on the lockscreen with a random date and random time flashing back and forth between no signal and the regular status bar symbols. It is unresponsive to touch and repeats the process of the keys lighting up, screen comes on for about 4 seconds, keys turn off, screen turns off. Repeat... If I hit the power button, the pop up shows up but I can't touch anything so I end up having to do a battery pull and reflash the rom. I've re-downloaded both roms to rule out a bad copy. I over-wipe every time I flash a new rom formatting system, wiping data, cache, and dalvik, and then flashing Calk's format all.
I messed with it last night and it seems pretty random but more often than not, it happens. If I try to restore a nandroid I had made recently, it does the same thing. In other words, there were multiple instances where I flashed the rom, got it set up, booted to recovery to make a back up, and then it wouldn't boot back up NOR could I get my back up to boot up.
What in the hell could be causing this??? Please and 1000 thank you's!!!!
First of all, sorry to tell you I don't have the answer.
I have this exact same issue and have tried almost everything you have tried, (I didnt have a back up since I just got this phone not too long ago).
My issue started at work when my battery died really fast in the middle of the day after being fully charged. The phone got hot and I just pulled the battery to stop it. Then I came home and am having this exact same issues.
I've spent the last few hours working on resolving this without success. Hopefully someone out there knows how to resolve this issue.
Edit: I am on Rogue recovery 1.10 (cmw v 5.6.2.7) and on Blazer ROM [11/26/11] [v1.2]
Might be the rom since we are both on Blazer...Im gonna try another. Hmm we are on the same recovery too!
Thanks!
Why not flash back to stock and start over?

FIXED!!
I've got it working finally. For me, I just had to check Go Launcher as my default launcher. Now when I reboot, it loads up just fine. I guess it was hanging when it tried to open up the pop-up where you select your launcher if you have more than one and don't have one set as default. So, to the few people affected by this, set your favorite launcher as default and give it a try. Thank you to everyone for all of the suggestions.

Yes this has been an ongoing issue and posted in a few places. Also remember that when Go Launcher updates this may happen to you again. You can always use adb and push a launcher over to your phone incase you find yourself stuck like this again. Or delete launchers so there is only 1 choice
I finally got rid of this loop. I was able to flash a rom via the recovery menu in clockworkmod, since for some strange reason it won't recognize my sd card now.
Playya, so if I wanted to push a recovery on my phone (I have clockworkmod v. 4.015 installed but it won't recognize the sd card no matter what I do to it), can I do this from Root Explorer? ADB? What commands would I use? I am on Linux and am looking for a guide. Thanks.
Hello, I am flashin Viper 2.0.0, but it seems to be extremely slow.
First flashed boot.img, then the rom .zip - all works.
Rebooting took a long time, but it's the first boot, so no problem.
Now instead that I should be setting up the ROM, but it's upsetting me:
The setup is extremely slow, needing at least 15 seconds to navigate from one page to the next.
The languages page took almost 30 seconds and the Install apps page took over two minutes.
It is almost impossible to enter anything because the on screen keyboard does respond slowly.
Connecting to HTC sense did not work, even though Wifi was on and user/password were ok.
Please help!
btw: I also get warnings that applications do not respond anymore (setup/instellingen) then I click on 'Wait'
Installed everything except Sense (finally getting rid of Sense, I hoped...)
installed Apex home screen

Did you do a full installation with wipe? The ROM recommends that you do a full wipe, and mentions the testers had serious slowdown when they didn't.

Yes, the Full wipe (second item) was checked.
After a long time I was able to go to the memory information. It shows that the SD card was not availlable!
So, I went to ES explorer and saw the card correctly.
When I went to the information again, it did show me total space of 25,24Gb and 1,41Gb available. (card has a lot of information, so that could be right)

I thought the idea was to not post in the ROM thread, but in the Q&A instead
I went back to Factory Defaults, now it seems to be much quicker
However, Dropbox has disappeared!
So I will reflash the ROM, but this time completely default.. (including full wipe once more)

so you've only got 1.4gb left on ur sdcard? there's a couple of threads in here somewhere with other people having the same prob when the sdcard is nearly full (apparently the phone is reading/checking all 24gb of used space in the background which slows everything right down)
solution ? delete some stuff until htc fix the bug
Instead of doing a wipe in viper's aroma installer, download arhd supe wipe script, and install it from recovery before flashing boot.img, and then uncheck full wipe in aroma. It worked for me

Hey guys.
This has only started to happen since I installed a rom that seemed to come with twrp and has removed my cwm..
My phone now seems to be very laggy when scrolling, even the notification noise lags and when it goes to into standby nothing happens it just goes off and the only way I can use the phone again is by taking the battery out.
I've tried flashing a new rom but thats not making a difference and i'm at a loss at what to do now....
Thanks for reading and any advice is appreciated.
*Forgot to mention, when being attached to pc via usb its not being recognised as being there, doesn't show as attached, just does nothing*

Could you please specify what Rom and version that you flashed?
Sent from the rabbit hole.
Did you install one of the other custom recoveries manually yet? Btw. IMHO TWRP is the best anyways. Did you do a full wipe before installing new ROM? what kernel/version are you on?
I went from using the Android revolution HD 10.0 version with stock kernel, I changed to AllianceROM N7100 XXDMA6 JB V1.0 but didn't find it smooth enough so I swapped back to Revolution, thats when I found twrp had installed.
I've tried flashing the stock recovery and i'm still getting the same issue.
I've since reflashed cwm but this hasn't solved the problem unfortunatley.....No idea what to do
You should at least wipe cache/dalvik, or even after doing a backup with TB, a fullwipe.

All done, several times, no difference
Have you considered it could be sudden death syndrome?
You should have nothing to worry about in terms of it dying, since you have a very recent base rom (dma6), which include safeguards against it.
When it freezes, have you tried waiting to see if the phone responds after you press the Home Button?
I ask this because I've read reports of people waiting for over 20 minutes for the phone to become responsive again after pressing the home button when in standby.
Another thing: have you ever flashed a full stock rom after DLL7 (including DMA6)? I ask this because DLL7 and later include a new bootloader that *supposedly* helps address the sudden death issue. It doesn't hurt to try anyway.

Trying to reinstall Stockorama or install S3Rx results, after rebooting from the Aroma installer, in my phone hanging at the “Samsung” display screen. Hence I’m looking either for a way to install one of these ROMs without using Aroma or, even better, for a solution to my problem (or, at least, a map for trouble-shooting it).
I was a happy camper with Stockorama v.2 until the on-screen install button stopped working. After other trouble-shooting brought no joy, restoring a Nandroid seemed to do the trick. But then the phone's dialer tried calling 333223 whatever the number I input. At that point, I was between a rock and a hard place: I could have a phone that didn't make calls but could install apps, or one that made calls but couldn't install.
I tried factory resets, system wipes, etc. I used Odin to install route66. I then reinstalled Stockorama from a fresh download. Not counting various hangups with Aroma, all went well until rebooting, when the phone hung at the "Samsung" splash screen. More wipes. Another install of route66. An attempt to install S3Rx that resulted in another hung Samsung splash screen.
So here I am, back with route 66, but wanting Stockorama or S3Rx. Hence my question: Can either ROM be installed without using the Aroma installer? If so, how?
Even if I can work-around Aroma, and especially if it’snot possible, can anyone suggest the source of my difficulty or how to trouble-shoot the situation?
TIA
Update The likely culprit, at least for the "install button" problem, appears to be an app called Velis Auto Brightness. A little over three weeks after this problem first arose, I switched my ROM to Dandroid. In deciding what apps gradually to add back, I ran across comments like the following for Velis:
Cannot press install from an APK Found a bug that needs fixing. With this app enabled for some reason installing from an APK it renders the Install button useless but the cancel button still works. As soon as I disabled this App, the Install button worked again.

Nice, but one slight issue I really like this app. Very useful and easy to use. My only issue is that when the app is active, if I turn off system auto brightness and try to raise the brightness, Velis overrides this and forces auto brightness.

Please confine your questions to one thread.
You can do what you are asking, but it's not worth the effort when Aroma works fine.

Yes, but I wait a minimum of 20 minutes. On one late-night try, I simply left the phone on over night.
I just performed a clean install of Quantum rom 3 RC2 and all seems to be going perfectly except that, when the screen goes off after a timeout, i cant get it back on (power button or home key). If i hit eitehr key immediately after teh screen shuts off it works fine but if i wait a few minutes, i can't get it back at all.
The screen is responsive to touch apprently (if i hit the power button and perform a swipe to unlock i get the tactile feedback. teh same with long press on power button after unlock (which usually shows the power menu)).
Any thoughts?

Probably if you have underclocked your kernel on the screen off profile that is the issue. Try to add some values. I used to have that issue.

Thanks for your response Prufta.
This is a fresh install so no messing around with under(or over)clocking or voltage has occurred.
It seems that the issue is only experienced when unplugging from charge while the screen is off (and has been for some time).
Strangely enough, it seems to happen much less often with the Nova launcher than the base 4.4 launcher.
I'll try a more systematic attempt to reliably reproduce the issue... this seems a little too inconsistent for my tastes
I'm also having some problems with Quantum RC2... It reboots pretty much every 10 minutes.
I reccomend checking to make sure the bootloader is up to date, make sure you are using the newest CWM and doing a fresh reinstall make sure to Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik and Format /system and then install the rom and you shouldn't have any other problems. Also make sure that you have the 4.4 GApps from 11/18. If you camera starts acting up when you take front camera pictures then delete Camera 2 and Gallery 2 apk. and install the one I will attach. And if you are still having problems after that let me know.

Feeling kinda mentally deficient at this time in relation to your camera comment. How do i delete the camera2.apk (I assume you mean in /system/app) rofs (using es file explorer. also fail to install the apk you provided. I'm sure i'm missing some key silly thing here
