Hello,
I'm somewhat new to flashing ROMs (althought I stay up to date with Franco's nightly kernels), so I am kind of hesitant to flash all the time (especially since backing up constantly is a pain). The first ROM I flashed was Redemption ROM, which was a pretty zippy stock experience, but I wanted something more featured, so I switched to Axiom Crossbreed because I heard good things about it.
I like Axiom Crossbreed, but it's no longer being supported and updated by DroidTheory, the dev, due to moving onto new projects. It's based off of AOKP, but I'm hesitant to flash even another AOKP ROM because I know for a fact that Crossbreed is relatively fast, gets good battery life, and stable.
Among other things, it has features like custom lockscreens, double-tap to open Play Store (which I have grown extremely accustomed to), and just a customizable interface in general. But like I said, it's not being maintained, so in a long-winded way, what I mean to ask is: What other ROM(s) could I try that are practically guaranteed to be fast, stable, offer customization (octo lock screen, double-tap homescreen to open Play Store, custom battery icon, etc), and have great battery life--while also being updated and maintained on a regular basis?
Thanks a million!
Check out ICSourcery version 3.1. Best ROM by far I think. The amount of customization on it is amazing.

Try each out and decide for yourself

Hey all,
Just wondering what rom people on this forum are using on their note 2.
Also, if the sound recording is an issue on official cm nightlies, does that mean all roms based on it like the unofficial, or vanilla rootbox, liquidsmooth have the same problem? Because they are based on also?
Thanks for your time
maybe it's time we run a poll for all the roms out there?
I bind around between a bunch, but I spend most time on the Jedi series

check the development section to see what roms people are using
and, yes, any problems that cm 10.1 has, any rom based on it most likely will have..
It's not easy to do an actual poll on here. At best you'll get pages and pages of people listing roms. No value add, no data collection or analysis. So yes, the easiest way to see what people are using is look at the roms available. And lots of people flash roms like some of us shower; what they use today may not be what they use tomorrow.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

I've been testing out a bunch of ROMs that go by just to see what works and what is needed to be fix (let's face it... that's what this site is for... It's a developer's site that lets us alpha/beta test out their skills and report what needs to be fixed). Each ROM has their unique features and such.
It's not a popularity contest, so no, I don't think there should be a poll since it will not matter. What does matter is if you find yourself a ROM you like, support it, support the developer by saying thanks and if you can, donate. Don't be afraid to try other ROMs as well. I've said this before and I will say it again... You have nothing to lose but a bit of time depending on how much you make a ROM your home. Find which one works for you.
Nandroid backup, wipe, flash, test. Like? Say so. Something broken that hasn't been reported yet? Say so.
Try not to treat this site as a free custom workshop for your phone. Treat it as a test site and be happy the devs take the time to do these things for us users/testers.
Check my sig. Best rom!

So I have tried most all of the top 6 ROMs. Clean Rom is very stable, Jelly Thunder has nice eye candy, but hands down the best ROM for me is SkyNote 7, aka Sky Wallet. Love the light saber sound for s pen. I worked with Seanz testing wallet, so I KNOW it works. I did put the latest Perseus kernel, Awesome beats, and Apex launcher on it to customize. IMO, this ROM is the pinnacle of Note 2 development!:silly:

Cleanrom is my choice.
I've been on CleanROM for a while, but right now am trying Jedi XPX.
CleanROM is a very safe ROM to use. It's as close to stock as you can get. Hard to quantify exactly how much better performance and battery life are, but my impression is that it is better than stock. Nothing that blew my mind, but when the Note 2 is such a beast from the start, it's hard to say that it is, or isn't a vast improvement. This ROM also pairs well with a couple of custom kernels (Perseus and Saber are the ones I've tried). One awesome thing about that the developer of CleanROM does is package it with Aroma installer, which allows you to pick and choose what you want in the ROM.
I've only had Jedi XPX installed for a couple of hours and so far, it's really good. Seems to be smoother, but I can't really say with absolute certainty. You'll love this ROM if you're a Star Wars fan as the developer integrated some Star Wars soundbites with some of the actions. The developer also added his/her personal touches like having "Jedi X" at the bottom of the lock screen and "Deviant Development" on the notification bar as you're swiping it down. Personally, I don't care for it. As I've just loaded it, I can't really say much about battery life yet.
Seems to me that you really can't go wrong with the two I've mentioned above and the developers are active in supporting their ROMs.
JediXPX is the best fit for me, the battery life is just insane with his Saber Kernel........its stable as ****, and runs super smooth. i have been on it since Jedi 3. something or other.
i have tried them all as well, not just the top 6 and Jedi seems to be the one that has them all beat in my OP anyway. but there works of art so pick one and run away.
Skynote for me
JediXPX is the smoothest ROM I have ever used. And I go through a lot of roms lol

N7105XXDMA6 is what I've decided to stick with for now.
Paired with Perseus kernel seem to do really well for me. I love AOSP roms but can not stand the absence of the S-Pen/S-Note features, then again, there are mods for N7105XXDMA6 that have allowed me to mimic CM 10.1 very closely with color scheme, features, CRT animation....all that good stuff!
After going through about 6 ROMs and trying them out for a day or two. The one I have settled on is Paranoid Android 3.00 for the N7105. The vast majority of this ROM is flawless. Super smooth running with zero lag, lockscreen or otherwise. PA-Colors is a really cool feature. I thought i wasn't going to care but it really evolves they seemlessnes when switching between apps, the notification bar fades into each one and is completely customizable. Photosphere doesn't work just yet. But I expect that to come in a few updates or so.
I simply hate touch-wiz. I hope I'm not alone in feeling that way. Also, after coming the the i717 running Slimbean, the stock DPI is just way to huge looking. Touch-wiz and the stock DPI doesn't make good use of the size of the screen. I like being able to scale down the entire DPI and make it look like I'm not looking at it through a magnifying glass.
Honestly I will say that I may not completely understand the power of the S-Pen but it has enough functionality in non-touchwiz roms that i don't notice it lacking. But I do miss multi window, I really do.
Im open to suggestions and skyrocket intrigues me. I think im going to check it out.
*end rant*
The Jedi series is top notch. My personal favorite. A very good stock rom but added a few things to give it a different feel. Love it.

Jedi is really a beast. Great Bergey life and smooth as silk. Also something g that is super important very little problems and very stable. I have flashed other rooms but nothing else gave this combination. The saber kernel is amazing also. Quite a few themes that are not even built for this tomorrow flash well with it.
I have ever recently just starting g reading up on Jdevil rom and it seems to be getting rave reviews for speed and battery. It is based on the new international base and said to be super fast. People are getting huge quad scores without even oc. Something to keep an eye on.

Hi!
Do you know what ROM is the fastest (with better performance) for our Nexus? I don't care if it is Stock or Custom, all I want is the better performance/battery life rom possible.
I am now with CM11 unoficial by playfulgod and I like it because it is 4.4, but the phone takes too long to open the apps and lags a little bit in fast transactions....
EDIT: I also don't care about the version, 4.4, 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, anything... the changes are minimal from 4.1 to 4.3 and 4.4 has its pros and cons
Flash and find out. Thats your best option.
Edit: Wrong section. Sorry. How the h*ll did i end up in Galaxy Nexus section.
I'm using CM official nightlies and find it quite good. I found 4.3 faster but like others have said it's a case of trying different rom / kernel combinations. What works well for me night not be much good for you and vice versa. A lot of different factors come into play. Apps used, background apps etc.

so far after 1 week experiments.

I have just flashed Gummy's 4.4 rom just trying it out from BelieveRom. I was looking for something faster with some of the new features and this had most of them. Real smooth so far with steady battery use on stock kernel. Will try some other kernels to see if it will add the butter.
I'm running swordrune10's cm11 its pretty good

Care to lay out all the tweaked build prop, performance scripts? How big is this extended battery? Is it the one from Verizon that Samsung made or is it one of those big 3,000+ sized ones that makes the phone super thick? seeing 4 hours of screen on time and only half battery used seems too good to be true.
thanks guys!
I will try a few roms here and give you the feedback later
The performance were only good on 4.1.2

im use the super big extended battery.. 4000 mah.. its big but worth it.
i dont like to use power bank as alternative.
im using pure performance™ scripts.. but carefull in scripting, it may cause overwrite the existing build.prop.
additional of using performance control. apk> download from fdroid repo. its seem to be easy to use for tweaking ram performance. especially for noob likes me.

Thats pretty nice. It seems way big for me though. I'm not a make the phones a slim as you can kind of person, but i do like a happy medium.
Vanir is pretty smooth and fast. Battery isn't greatest but performance kicks ass on my toro. 4.4 flies but still has black boxes
Yes, Vanir is very smooth. But the most important is to install custom kernel. For now the best are ASKP and Mpokang SuperRAM. If you install one of these kernels, i think every ROM will be smooth.
I suggest to try MetalOmni - very fast 4.4 ROM.
ITS ALL YOUR OPINION. FLASH AND FIND OUT. These threads arent even allowed. And on top of that: how would you feel if you had put alot of effort into making a ROM and people dont like it because its "slow". Just try and find out seriously. Youre maybe the 100th with this thread. This will probably be closed in a couple of days.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
well, then I will have to flash all the roms there are to see for myself which one is the best in terms of speed. considering that there are at least 5 different roms just for 4.4 and for 4.3 (and previous) there are much more roms... I would need to flash about 20 roms (or more) and test them at least a day or two to see which ones are better... By my calculations, I will need at least 1 month. Considering that android isn't my life, I have many other things more important to do, I will spend more than a month doing that testing thing...
So, do you really think I can test them all for myself? Shouldn't I ask here for names of the best roms in terms of speed that many members have tested? This way I will only test the 3/4 most mentioned, not the all 20. I know that the developers do a lot of work in their roms, but there are ones better than others for many things, I don't think the developer of rom X would mind if I prefer the rom Y from other developer because it is faster. Maybe the rom X has more options and other things, but lacks in speed, so the developer of rom X isn't interested in making a rom for speed, it isn't inferior to the other rom, just different.
If this thread is locked, even finding it unfair and kind of stupid, I don't really care. I already got a few opinions and I'm testing some roms here. Thanks a lot for the ones who helped me and aswered this thread.

Well, you got me curious.
I am currently testing SlimKat ROM and it looks fast enough for me.
Unfortunaly, it's still on beta (4.4 KitKat), so you might expect a few bugs.
Still, it's a good ROM, in my opinion.
I need some help choosing a new rom. This would be my first custom ROM on my GN2.
Currently in running 4.3 stock and it has terrible battery life and is slow. Stock 4.1.2 was actually way better.
What I'm looking for is:
- touchwiz features. I don't want to lose s-pen
- stable for DD usage
- good battery life. At least a day on moderate usage
- good performance. At least equivalent to stock 4.1.2 or better
- note 3 features would be nice but not a requirement
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks
You just need to test each and see what you like. Go see development thread and test some.
Touch wiz ones are MeanBean,sky note,ditto, stock 4.3 rooted,alliance

My votes for Mean Bean....
But agree with eZ,,,, No one but yo,u will know if your satisfied with it.
And no one will be running the phone the same way you do, ie: sames apps, same wireless use, same texting, on and on and on.

Research and see what best suits what you want. If you are looking for stability then a stock based rom would be best. If want more vanilla android the a CM based rom is best. Its all about what you want. I personally use the Jedi Roms cause I like the stock stability with the extras thrown in

Agree with all of the above.. Gotta test and see....
I am on Ditto Note 3 with Agni Kernel and it's smokin' hot! Blazing fast and great battery life.
But still you gotta test them out for yourself.
I would say MIUI, after testing many many ROMS which all in the end was quite a like i found MIUI roms to be devoted to appearance and (perhaps mere coincidence) better battery time.
This is really not a question others can answer for you, as eZ says, test and see, you will in the end find a sweetspot.
Miui= ijunk look/Crapple IMHO

Hey there.
I'm coming from Asus Infinity TF700, which was a great tablet but had disastrous storage speed, which made it virtually unusable.
On the other hand, there was plenty of custom ROMs, from CM to Paranoid, and others.
I've done some digging through Tab S forums and it seems so far only 3 custom ROMs are available, and even those are not being developed or are based on stock.
Why is that? Not many devs have Tab S? No people with know-how?
Anything esle?
Are there more custom roms to be expect in the future?
I am actually not sure when this tablet came to market, but it seems like 5-6 months now.
Thx for all the info. Oh, and if anyone could recommend a custom rom for Tab S 10.5 (WiFi only) I would appreciate it.
BR
We have cm11, skyhigh kernels, stock based rom, and blissed rom is being working on now. The best custom rom for the tab s wifi is cm11 in which im running now. Its super fast and stable.
Thanks for info.
Would you be so kind and point me to the CM11 thread - i'm talking T-800, not T-700 for which i have found a thread. But i don't think it is compatible, is it?

How About Battery Life? Is it better than stock?
I've recently discovered the awesomeness of Pure Nexus on my Galaxy S4 and I would absolutely kill to have a rom like this for my Tab S. Google edition experience is buttery smooth, incredible battery life and has really extended the life of my phone. I may try the CM11, but I really don't know if it could be better than a modified Nexus rom.

Ehh well it depends. When i installed a custom rom battery life was a tad shorter. But after a couple charges to get the battery calibrated its a bit the same but A bit better. To get more battery on cm11 what i did was underclock the cpu to 1.3 mhz and set the profile to power save. I now have six hours screen on time at 35 percent. So it may vary. If you dont change anything it would not change battery life but butter smooth.
