[Q] SMS/MMS messaging app - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Are there any messaging apps via playstore or otherwise that resemble the JB AOSP messaging app and/or functionality? I really like the ability to not only reply via the status bar, but also the ability to select "read" so I don't have to open the messaging app for a message I don't intend to reply to.
Also, I really hate the fact that the stock messaging app only says "new message" in the status bar without any information about the message or the sender. Really crappy design. Any help there also?
Thanks!

You could download one of the stock apk's I think.
Also the stock app does show the sender name and the message in the notification Window. Check settings and make sure that it's enabled.

Try go sms? Has a pop up window and you can set the notification bar so you can see the message. It can even unlock your phone when a text message comes, if you set it up.

Stock apk. as in, stock Android? Would that work with TW?
And thanks for pointing that out also. Odd that message preview wouldn't be automatically applied.

Why not Handcent? Pretty full-featured and highly customizable.

I use this as well. Works great. I don't use go SMS cause of all the garbage you have to install if you want a themed key board or something

I wondered this as well, I'm stock and like the stock experience. If you can link the stock Android sms apk that would be awesome.

[MOD][REQUEST][JB]Delete Button for Gmail Notification

Hey Guys,
I was wondering, now that the Jelly Bean notifications have actions added to them, I was looking if someone could help on adding a delete action to emails when they arrive so you don't have to go into the app to delete it.
It could work the same way, when only one email is shown, you could have acttion, 2+ you have to go into the app.
Thanks

Latest update(March 25, 2013) for gmail app bring to us this feature..
from change log:
Reply, archive or delete from notifications - no need to open the app
But in notification I still see only Reply and Archive buttons..
Could someone explain me - how to enable Delete button in notification?
Thanks
Inside gmail app settings, you need change default action from archive to delete, this way they show delete in notification bar.

What app is everyone using for sms?

Just curious to see what people are using besides the stock app.

I came from an iphone and always used bitesms so when I got my gn2 I went straight for chompsms. It's really all I know but I love it.

Just got my Note2 yesterday and I'm still using the stock one for now. I'm trying to turn my GN2 into a Nexus, so I'm looking for an SMS app that is as close to the Vanilla Android SMS as possible.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
i personally prefer go SMS purely because of the crazy theming features + private box
Can you send pictures with GO sms? I heard it just sends a link?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317
I'm using the stock sms app themed
ChompSMS, I love how it renders picture messaging to full screen. Opposed to the stock which looks more like a thumbnail. GOSMS was to convoluted with options/themes for my liking.

Go SMS, been using them forever. You can send pictures, but sometimes I have problems with that. Only since I rooted my phones though. It gives me an error message, something along the lines of exceeding my file size limit. I just used the stock messenger to send mms/pictures.

I am very happy with stock... first time I've ever been able to say that. Prior to that, I used GoSMS and Handsent on all of my other devices. I forgot which one of the two I settled on. I want to say GoSMS was the better of the two IMO.
GoSMS here for years and I've been happy with it.

If you look hard enough in the settings you can change the max size to send and stop it from shrinking your pictures. But like I said before if you see d through go SMS and the received doesn't have go it comes up as a link

In sound options theres a setting for vibration intensity and pattern also on the contacts app theres options for making vibrations specifically for a contact. I think there might be a limited amount though.

It doesn't. I think it's from an older version of AOKP. I'm not really sure where it's from. I found it in the themes and mods section under a similar thread.
Edit: I'm using the APK from here and then follow the instructions here
And this recently up in Themes/Mod sections might help

I don't like the vibrate options because when selecting vibrate in the SMS app, it vibrates in sound mode and vibrate mode. I only want it to vibrate in vibrate mode like my GS3 did on ICS.
For those using Go SMS, can you confirm if Go SMS sends you push ads in your messages? When I tried Go SMS I got a spam sms from them.

[APP]Disable SMS to MMS Conversion

I have not created this App this app has been ripped from other Forum thought this may help as it did for me so i am just sharing it here as i did not find it here
Disable SMS to MMS Conversion
This modification disables the incredibly annoying "feature" that Samsung chooses to add to its messaging app, where any SMS message of a sensible length (ie. longer than 3 SMS messages) will be converted into an MMS message.
A brilliant idea for those who pay for each message they send, as 3xSMS is about the cost of an MMS, which can carry much more text. Unfortunately for Samsung, they're a few years too late here - most people don't pay for their SMSs individually any more. And they likely would need to pay to send an MMS.
Enter this modification, which lets you send long messages again without issue.
Attached is the LEGACY version of this plugin for Xposed API 2.0 RC2. DO NOT USE THIS VERSION. Use the up-to-date one in the download manager.

disable sms to mms conversion
Thanks all for help so far.
The Creation mode doesn't seem to make a difference. Reason I want it disabled is because my company don't allow MMS, so long SMS just change to MMS and fail to send! I was wondering why this guy hadn't replied to my text........
I have tried the Application, and it appears to install but makes not difference. Reading more it looks like I need to use that general Tweaking app, and that you need Root?
Please confirm, because I cannot root my phone as I need to use Good, and my company have Good set to not run on Rooted devices.
I'm really not bothered about having to use another app, as I already use Whatapp wherever I can to keep my SMS (which I have to get billed by text for) down, so would prefer not to have two seperate 'Text' apps, further to the core Android one, which I am generally pleased with?
Solutions appreciated... or, is there an app that brings all Whatapps, texts and Emails into one 'stream' that you can disable SMS to MMS on?
XDA rules...
The app needs xposed framework to run. You have to be rooted to install xposed but once installed and activated you can unroot again. I don't know of any way to disable the mms conversion without rooting first
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm a little late on here, kind of a noob when it comes to this as well, but anyways so i've installed xposed installer and got a couple modules to download, install and work properly but when i try this one, i get "Parse error". Any ideas? I absolutely HATE that Samsung has this limit!
You can use wannam xposed from the play store, it has this option in it. Sounds like a bad download though

Chomp SMS is a complete SMS app that's fully customizable with the pop-up option. There's also sms pop up... Both have free versions in the play store.

I'm not sure exactly what is meant by a popup app, but Ninja SMS is working great for me.
What I meant by popup is the notification method.
I would like my screen to turn on with a text box that I can reply to vs having to open the app.

I've always used Go SMS. The ads are worse now than I remember them being (but still not terrible).. So I paid the $5 to get rid of ads. Its a good texting program. No real complaints.
You can also use Facebook messenger for texting too.. if you want system-wide chatheads

I don't have it configured that way, but I believe Ninja SMS is able to put a popup on your lockscreen. I'm not sure if it will wake it though.

Yes it does, you can set it to unlock the phone automatically in settings.
That said, I've since switched to Textra, which also wakes the device but sadly does not unlock the screen, so the popup only appears while you're working on the phone already.
I'd recommend 88sms
It was developed by the CM team and has a very stock feel to it.
Plus it has the popups, screenwake, Emoji support, dark theme, and more.
Just tried out 88 and I'm really liking it compared to textra. However, it doesn't have support for Apple emoji icons does it? My whole family uses them and I'd like to be able to send them back

And, as @imablackhat revealed, the Play Store isn't offering the latest version (v2.0.122 (904984-30) to everyone, which actually features SMS/MMS.
As of right now, you're linking to version 1.2.018 (without SMS/MMS).
BTW, the Play Store link doesn't mean much when users from different countries may not be able to access it anyway.
Hi everyone,
Let's keep it friendly please, no need to bicker over something as little as an APK post
This post, however, is indeed correct:

Google is pushing out Hangouts 2.0 at a different rate across the country so even by linking to the Play Store link it does no effect if Google has not pushed Hangouts to that usergroup yet.

I haven't tried disabling it, but I cannot see that it would cause issues. I have not disabled/"turned-off" mine, but I also haven't had it open up randomly either after disabling all notifications for it.

Doesn't really make a difference unless you actually use hangouts. Otherwise it's just another SMS app.
