Is there any way to improve my 4g reception?? When I'm at work my phone is constantly switching back and forth between 3g/4g and I'm sitting in the exact same spot in the building. This is very annoying cuz sprints 3G is worthless. Is there any i can do about this? Maybe some tweaks that could help me resolve this issue?? Or something in the build I could change?
Currently running Lifeless Rom (V14)

I have the same problem

It's ridiculous!!! but at least I'm not the only. Do you think I would have better luck on CM10?

My phones did that at first when 4G was just getting started around here. And 4G signals and usually bad in buildings because of the bands that they use.

So are the bands something you can't change or modify?

Maybe try going to the hidden menu by dialing 3845#*970#, scroll down to the bottom of that menu and click "IOT Hidden Menu", from there select "system selection", network mode, then LTE only. Hopefully that forces you to stay on LTE and won't give it the option to switch back to 3G. Obviously you're going to have to go back into this menu and hit CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto if you want 3G access again.

Nope. That's up to the carrier.
sprints lte is currently on the pcs 1900 band, verizon and att is on 700. by the end of the year sprint plans to have lte on the smr 800 band also. so coverage will be about the same as verizon
Perhaps try different radios such as the zvb one.

No. But it's a good speed.
You can check by going into settings, about phone, status and see what network type says.

Correct. Not LTE, but fair speed for H+, arguably slightly faster than the typical 3G. You're getting the speed I used to get when I was on my SGSII (non-skyrocket) until I upgraded to the SGN2 with LTE here in San Diego.
Thanks. Its says im running LTE:14. So I guess the question now is why am I not getting lte speeds!?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Just ran another test, slightly faster speeds but you can see in the status bar it says 4g instead of h+.
Im running jellythunder perfect storm..which I thought h+ meant lte.
Ideas?

Ok. Than u are getting LTE. The rom u have just isn't showing show in your status bar.
Did u flash an international theme or something that may have caused this?

4G=LTE
H, H+ = HSPA (3.5G)
3G = UMTS
This means that when you are in LTE you won't see the LTE symbol but instead 4G.
Depending on the rom u are using of course. In order verify that your ROM is actually using LTE go System Settings --> About Device --> Status. Look under Mobile Network Type.

I am in a lte area and my status bar now says 4g which means lte. What are normal lte speeds? My last post was the speed test on the lte...that normal?
Thanks again!

No, this is what it would look like. Look in between the alarm clock and the signal strength meter.

LTE = faux G as far as I am concerned.
AT&T is still on 3G .. its just 3G+. According to what I have read, LTE (and WiMax) was originally a "transitional technology." Then it was upped to 4G and HSPA+ is now a a transitional tech. Then some1 dumped a lot of money into an offshore account and transitional tech is 4G.
Cue the nerd rage at this point.
LTE Advanced (as well as WiMax v2 or whatever they were going to call it.) are 4G. These are some way away. With big V saying LTE deployment going into 2015, one could guess we won't see "pure" 4G until almost 2020.
Edit: LTE is 100Mb/s down AND up. LTE adv is basically gigabit. As far as the original spec, 4G = gigabit. So .. we aren't quite there yet.

Well, the symbol at the top left says H+. So, no that not LTE, if it where it would say 4G.
But if its an international port than it says 4g, jedi states so in first post

haha .. nothing like downloading (theoretically) a DVD iso in under a minute.
I'd rather have the lower ping time and the lower bandwidth connection than the higher ping time and larger bandwidth connection.
The fact that your ping is so low makes me believe that you might be on LTE. But it could be an excellent 3G connection or whatever ATT likes to call it to make themselves feel superior. I've seen speeds that low however for LTE when the signal isn't very strong.
So I'm watching my phone jump back and forth from h+ to 3g and I'm wondering why it might be doin this? Any ideas

See the same thing, pretty confused.
Speed tests show 3Mbps down and 1+-Mbps Up
but it usually sticks with h+ anytime i do something
Well I was in a major city yesterday and they have 4g but it was jumpin when I was sitting still in the middle of town
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
With the newer ROMs the phone knows when there isn't a need for 4G or H+. It drops down to 3G to save data and battery. As soon as there is a need for higher data speeds the phone automatically adjusts to meet the demand. Trust me you are getting your 4G when you need it.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
When you go into menu settings more settings under the network tab, the default network mode is lte/cdma. My question is is that the best setting or do some of you think automatic would be better? Thanks.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Depends on if you have lte and use it. It could be left on cdma. That's what I do cause I have no 4g.
Why is there a GSM setting

I think sprint can unlock the GSM radio inside the phone for whenever you go where there is no signal.
I could be wrong though.

Interesting. So gsm is like at&t and phones that use sim cards correct?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
GSM is for international roaming. It uses the embedded sim card to access partner networks worldwide.
I like to break stuff!
I upgraded to stock MA6 and MA6 firmware(modem)
-I live in an area where there is no 4g lte- when Im on cdma only I can get internet connection
however when I switch to lte/cdma and open browser it says "no signal found for mobile networks"
why cant I connect on lte/cdma ?
Just stick with the CDMA I do the same I don't have LTE ether and when I pick lte/CDMA I have the same issue. Don't waste your battery looking for a network that is not available for you.

Does anybody experienced having weak cell signal after tmobile update?
Mine I used to get full bars of cell signal til I update, now I only get 1 to 2 bars.
What could be the cause of weak signal?

seemed like it for me as well so i went back to the uvall4 modem. btw, i'm in south florida.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
It could be due to connecting to LTE if you have it. My signal becomes worse because of it, but if I switch to 4G/3G/2G mode only my signal jumps back to being better in 4G mode.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Same here, with LTE my signal sucks take it off and presto full bars.

If you go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode, click GSM/WCDMA preferred, which stops it from looking for LTE.
There is no LTE near me and I dont want it to be draining battery when I dont need it to, so thats how I set it. I had weak signals too after the new MD1 update and went back to MB4 using Odin.
