I bought my Xperia S last year in May, and unfortunately I'm very upset with the phone, the design is very good but battery cover started moving in 3 months after that soft touch on the battery cover became glossy and not soft anymore,I had to buy one from Amazon, now looks as new. As for the phone it's very laggy, luckily I don't have any yellow tint or other problems with the phone, the major problem is dust coming through camera hole and touch buttons at the bottom sometimes lag. So I want to get rid of SONY Products once and for all, I don't even wont the new Xperia Z, because I know that it will disappoint me soon, I had almost 20 Sony Ericsson Phones including X10 and Arc, and I got disappointed in all of them, I was thinking of HTC one X+ but in the end I understood that there is nothing special in it, the best choice for performance and style would be Nexus 4, because it has great CPU, GPU, Design, Camera, it's the best phone for it's price. And if someone has an opinion about this please feel free to comment. I'll appreciate your help!!! :cyclops:
If you want an opinion... at least ask for a realistic challenge!
Nexus 4 is comparable to Xperia Z, Galaxy S3... not with Xperia S.
It is completely ridiculous to compare a model from 2013 with one from 2012, doesn't make any sense.

Anyways... Nexus 4! Theres not even a debate. Aosp, great specs, gigantic dev community, haha I wish I had One.

Nexus 4 is the best phone in Android developers community:
Not expensive, good specs, lots of resources!:good::good::good:
I really wish N4 is available in my region:crying:
Get the Nexus 4... Its not available officially in India and unofficial (online store) price is too much.... I would have bought it if it was available here.
Nexus 4 is better in almost every way compared to XS. Every tech site gave it a high score..

But the rest remains...
For me the choice would also be Nexus 4
Thank you everyone for your opinions! I'll definitely go for Nexus 4 and forget SONY forever.
Go for nexus 4, but dont forget about sony forever
who knows maybe next will be sony nexus 5 or 6. :good:
Don't even go near the xperia s!
Look at what's happening with just jelly bean update.
Xperia s is worst my friend bought it 2 months ago now he wants to sell it I asked him the reason but he is always numb. Its led flash is not bright as compared to my sgs2. Nexus 4 is immortal. If you have few more thousands to spend go for htc butterfly or droid dna.

I got fed up with this sony mobiles. My xperia s not yet completed 7 months. It already died. I got it from UK now i cannot get the replacement also. It was already went two times for service. What the F mobiles it is. My previous mobile motorola is way better than this one. Don't go for beauty Look for how much it worth for long life.
Yea, you are right, just waste of money, you buy Xperia S in two weeks comes out Xperia S something with almost same price but with better performance, this drives me crazy! In 2011 I bought Xperia Arc, and Arc S came out in 2 weeks without announcement and I had to live with it. Don't trust sony!!!
Dunno what's with you guys I've been a Sony user for the past 10 years and never had problems with em.I've had the x8 which was great and also the arc S (smart phone era). 4 months ago i bought the S and so far it has been rock solid.

I am buying it as a gift for my GF who had been an ardent blackberry user ,, and finally wishes to jump into the "real" smartphone market ..
she already has an Ipad so an Iphone4s is a no no ... and the choices pretty much come down to Sony Xperia S vs Galaxy nexus ...
Which is better and why ?
galaxy nexus, since this us a galaxy nexus forums
but i think girls usually prefer the looks of sony
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Xperia S is probably better for girls with its Facebook interaction and social stuff. The nexus would be better if your girlfriend like flashing roms and root and has big hands.

Why is an iPhone a no-no because she has an iPad? They compliment each other great.
Just let her decide.. Don't think it'll matter that much since she's coming from BB.
Iphones are made for girls....well imho anyways
The answer is Galaxy Nexus. It's always Galaxy Nexus.
Unless she really wants an Xperia S... for some reason. And I have to agree that an iPhone 4S isn't a bad idea if she's used to iOS. There are pros to both views.
naha…
Girls like Android even if I do not know why… *shrugs*
My sister got pulled from iOS to Android by an HTC Wildfire (which really isn't a great experience).
She now uses an HTC Legend instead of an iPhone4 and will get some HTC One flavour with the ending of her old contract. (I would recommend the V) which does espc. affect women with all the Sense stuff…
A friends GF got an HTC Sensation XE/XT or whatever and her first move was to get to him and have it rooted because she missed some features he had on his phone (with CM7.x)
If you go the Sony route get her the Xperia P not the S. The aluminum on it super svelte.

I'm a girl who jumped from Blackberry to Xperia to Samsung. My son also has an Xperia Play. I love my Gnex, but I'd honestly recommend one of the new Xperias as an introduction to Android.
The build quality on Sony phones feels a lot more solid than Samsung phones. Samsungs just feel kinda cheap and plasticky, IMO. I have a Gnex now simply because I wanted pure stock ICS and updates direct from Google. If that were not important to me, I'd have waited a bit and gotten an Xperia S instead, simply because it's pretty much equivalent as far as hardware goes, and it's also prettier (IMO).
So my vote is to get her the Sony....maybe she'll want a Nexus eventually, like I did, and maybe by then the current Nexus will be something other than a Samsung.

I bought an Xperia S a couple of weeks ago, originally for my wife.
She hated it so I ended up using it.
If you're going to get one, at least wait for the ICS upgrade to see if it fixes the battery issues with Sony's GB rom (or even better, hang on for a good custom rom).
As it stood, I didn't get on with the Xperia S at all, so it sadly ended up on eBay.
I've just replaced it with a gnex, and couldn't I be happier.
The reasons my wife hated it?
The hardware buttons are a bit fiddly. She was forever pressing the back button again and again, trying to get it to register. I found this problem too.
The battery life (as mentioned above, this should be fixed by a software update, eventually)
Performance: the stock .67 sony rom is laden with rubbish. The launcher is laggy and the gb menus are awfully choppy. Again, hopefully the ICS update will cure this.
The screen was excellent though, and the camera was very good, for a phone. A potentially great phone, ruined by the software.
I am a BlackBerry user (please don't hate ). I use a BB on my main line and the Nexus One on my second line. I plan on getting the Galaxy Nexus. The reason why I chose the GNex is because it uses a regular sim and you can remove the battery. The Xperia S uses a micro sim and I change phones often on my second line. I have many micro sim adaptors and they don't work properly. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but the battery of the Xperia S is non removable. That's a dealbreaker for me. I can deal with the internal memory and eventually when all manufacturer's switches over to the micro sim or nano sim. But I like the choice to be able to buy an extended battery or extra battery if I need one. I have small hands and I played around with the GNex. It's not as big as I thought it would be. Also by looking at the specs of both devices, the Xperia S is not that much smaller.
Another thing to keep in mind is your GF is a BB user which means I'm sure she loves the led notification light. The GNex has it and I'm pretty sure the Xperia S has one has well. Sony has been known to have an led notification light. Thought I point that out to you just in case you change your mind and get her an iPhone or the SGSII and she's wondering where the led notification light is, because there isn't one.

Please only select the main phone you used and the phone you used directly before the Xperia S
Should be interesting to gather the results
Edit: Please only select a manufacture if you had an ANDROID phone, for WP7 etc. tick the respective boxes for those OS's
An X10 but I have to say it was one hell rollercoaster ride. It began with the lows of 1.6 which became pure agony and frustration. Then 2.1 came too late and we felt indifferent about it.
In the end gingerbread arrived but after well over a year on dated software, there was just a bad taste that never really went away.
We hoped never to see a repeat, and indeed Sony Ericsson promised to do better in future but hey, 2 years later and we are back to dated software.
It really is hard work liking the company. Don't have many problems with the phones themselves, just the philosophy of the company behind them that stinks to high heaven.

I love my Desire, but I tried to use it last week and it felt so slow.
I moved from an Xperia arc, I don't normally upgrade that soon but I won the Xperia S from Sony so that's why I upgraded.
@zodiac100 my brother got a cheap X10 off ebay couple months back, with 2.3 it works its just a lot slower than what I'm used too.

Hello guys,
after the long wait for Jelly bean on my Xperia S ive had enough of that phone. It lags a lot in the Homescreen, its slow very often, the walkman random pauses, its sluggish and the support is as good as dead. So now im Thinking of buying a new phone in mid Juli. So my question is: What phone do you think i should get? Ive got my eye on the Z and the SP. I know SP is only a midrange phone, but I completely love the design of it. The Z is more expensive, but probably the better phone. I like Sony a lot, because of the general design and the UI. I wont even start about the support because,... well you know.. And im begging you, no Samsung suggestions )

If you are going to spend your bucks on Xperia Z range phones, I would suggest you to buy the HTC One...
Don't buy the SP, it's a mid - range non flagship phone - - - - - SO FORGET ABOUT LONG TERM SUPPORT(Look how Sony is treating their last year flagship XS, so SP will suck big time in terms of support from Sony)..
Yeah the xperia S is almost dead to Sony, thats the only thing ( except the the bugs) that i really hate about this phone..
Don't think and just go for Z. It has amazing support from Sony and should even have long term support. I think that it even has good developer support on XDA, No need to say anything about the performance. I can easily run any game or app without a single lag on my XZ. There is enough ram to anything that you want. Around 1-1.2 GB free ram is perfect for all user apps. XZ and SP are not comparable. If money doesn't matter to you, just go for a XZ. Believe me, you won't regret it.

Yeah HTC One is better in my opinion (even though I'm a total Sony fan). It's chipset and display is top-notch. Battery life is also better than Z.
HTC One - over 10 hours of video playback, almost 10 hrs of web browsing and 13 hrs of 3G talk time
Xperia Z - 5 and a half hour of video playback, 6 and a half hour of web browsing, 16 hrs of 3G talk time.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.. Lets just hope the JB for Xperia S really fixes everything
Leaving my own personal rants on Sony's software support out of it; i too am in the same boat currently owning an Ion.
As far as the big Android phones for 2013, this is all i've noticed so far...still have plenty of time to figure it out before my upgrade, and i'm hoping i'm happy enough with JB to just wait it out until next year.
Sony Xperia Z/ZL: by far the absolute best physical design i've seen so far in a phone. 5" screen freaked me out at first, but its barely bigger than my Ion, just much more screen. I haven't held a ZL yet, but the Z is pretty incredible if you haven't seen it in person yet. At the same time, its a big 'who knows' on its support. Going by 2012, it'll get one update late summer...then barely ever get mentioned again...Soon after 18 more phones will be available, and Sony will continue having no realistic way of supporting devices they already sold.
HTC One: Good design overall. Most are reporting its very durable, good for me as i love dropping things that are expensive. Not sure about all that layered UI stuff they're up to yet though. Only bad thing for me would be the lack of SD card support.
Samsung Galaxy S4: By far the most popular choice, creating a community of users that rivals Apple, and the support that comes with it. Too bad, though, it looks like a toy. I wouldn't be surprised if the box included a Sesame Street DVD.
for all the above reasons, i'd be very happy just waiting it out and seeing what 2014 brings. maybe sony will turn it around company wise, maybe not. But i still think the Z is too early in this mess for it not to share the EXACT same fate as last years flagship.

Good day everyone!
For the past two years I've been using Xperia Arc, and it lived a long and exciting life, but not it came the time to move on to something faster. Unfortunately, I am very limited in the amount of money I want to spend on my new phone, but I want to continue the tradition and keep with sony products. That is why I am here asking a question, what would be the best alternative for Xperia arc, which will be both quick and relatively cheap. I've considered Xperia V, Xperia Acro S and Xperia T, but i haven't found much of a difference between them, therefore, i need your help. What is the best Arc-like smartphone currently on the market for the cheap? ( I do apologize if I've wrote the question in the different thread, but I thought that it would be best asking Arc users for their advice)
if you want it with similar specs then get xperia J, it has a JB update and its cheap, plus has an appealing sony look

well, yeah, But I ment looking like Arc, not being slow as it is now! That's why Xperia V looks like the best of them all, cz looks like Arc (curvy) and ahve quite enough power.

sorry for misleading you guys before, my English is not Brilliant
HTC has some dual-core alternatives, the One SV or the older One S. Basically any dual-core HTC from 2012 would be lightning fast compared to the Arc.
I'd stay away from LG altogether. Anything below an Optimus G is a junk. They all have horrible build quality.
I don't want to step any toes here but the Galaxy S3 Mini is a hell lot of phone for a very reasonable price. Phone prices depend on the market but in Europe, this phone sells less than the Xperia T (despite the price cuts on the T) and is a better phone (in my opinion).
Recently a friend bought an Acer. Forgot which model it was but it had 720p display in a 4.3 inch screen or something similar. He is pretty happy and I've seen the screen, it looks pretty clear and amazing. And the viewing angles are a million times better than the Arc (well, that's not fair, all Sony phones, the Z included, have terrible viewing angles. So maybe I shouldn't compare).

Get a TX I'll be getting one in a couple of days :highfive:
if you want a good looking smartphone then go for HTC One, I know that is not sony, but it will provide you with a whole new experience. It is made out of aluminum so rock-hard. it has probably the best camera on an android smartphone (ultrapixels), and I read everywhere that the wifi range is breath-taking, the wifi range can simply blow our xperias away.
And you can see the rest of the specs HERE (not all info here are true, eg:camera)
Xperia SP (if affordable would be the best choice)
Xperia T
Xperia ion
Xperia L (cheapest of em all btw worth it)
I really hope US consumers give this phone a chance it's been awesome thus far.
1) If you want a 5 inch phone, the ZL is by far the easiest to hold in one had, almost no side bezel.
2) Even though its a tad heavier than my N4 the weight is distributed to evenly it feels lighter. I actually prefer not having a glass back and I got the red color which looks very much like metal even though its plastic.
3) battery life is much better than my n4.
4) Im happy I have something unique and different as most everyone I know has an iphone or a samsung galaxy s3 and soon to be s4 etc.
5) Screen, while not as vibrant as samsung oleds is more than clear enough, no flagships are coming soon but I think Ill be happy with this phone for awhile.
6) Im using my ZL on straight talk and bought 2 different 6 month cards on amazon and thus Im getting unlimited everything for around 35 bucks month, which is impossible to beat. (atnt 4g network)
Now if I only I could find a decent minimal bumper that wouldnt cover up too much of this beauty!

I agree with all your points. I also upgraded from the N4 to the ZL a few weeks ago. I got a white one and I love it. Definitely much better life than the N4, I was always keeping my screen brightness low, which made the phone dark, and I could still barely get 2 hours of screen time on good days. The camera is better and I love having a dedicated button.
I do miss the ease of flashing ROMs on the N4, but I still kept it to play with the latest software. The community is not as big as the N4 or the Z, but luckily both are pretty similar and we have Nut and DoomLord doing awesome things. We also just got 4.2.2 rolling out! If you got one with an unlocked bootloader, you're set. Welcome to the forums
I also get a LOT of compliments on my phone. It's very unique.
Yeah having a phone that's not cookie cutter common is pretty sweet. I'll never understand why you'd want to have the same device as everybody else you know.
Bought my ZL yesterday and am waiting for it to arrive. Was debating whether to either get the nexus4 or the ZL and I settled on the ZL after a long and painful comparison process.
Also, welcome to the ZL forums.
Same here: sold N4 two weeks ago, and bought this awesome smart phone- Xperia ZL.

I was similiar. I switched from the AT&T LG Optimus G (similiar internals + sd card) to a white ZL and love it. I like the smaller footprint/bigger screen. None of sony's apps have been bad and a few have been great (camera).
compare with my friends who using nexus 4.. ZL is much better from battery aspect.. both are almost identical hardware.. ZL do have microSD support which is useful for me.. :good: choices for ZL.
I am now deciding between zl and nexus 4. So i should get nexus 4 i guess?

Umm why? Every one of us in the thread who had a Nexus 4 are much happier with the ZL. You can't beat the price of the Nexus, so that is one huge advantage it will have over the ZL.

Oh ok haha. Wow, they're really making money with the Nexus 4! Google sells it directly for half the price of the ZL without a contract.

well here in germany the 16 gb model of the nexus 4 is 350 euro in the playstore but other stores sell it more expensive, about 379 euro. The ZL is about 480 euro but i got a pretty good deal to get it with a decent contract for free. The same cotract can also get me a nexus 4.
