Ive been using recovery 5.0.2.7 and I flashed new Recovery 6.0.1.4 threw rom manager today and it almost screwed my phone. I booted into 6.0.1.4 and it would not flash anything. I rebooted and my phone was stuck on boot loop. Luckily I made a backup on the old recovery. it took forever when i restored (30 mins stuck on restoring). and it didnt even say complete. I had to pull battery, powered back on and restore had actually completed (lucky) ....Has anybody flashed recovery 6.0.14 and experienced this issue?

Yea, It almost ruined my phone as well. I ended up having to restore to an older version. It wouldnt let me flash anything, constantly hung or restarted, and never actually told me that it finished, though when I rebooted it turned out that it did finish flashing, although much of it was messed up, almost like it only flashed certain parts of the rom.
I've had very similar experience with 6.0.1.4.
I'm glad I'm not alone, I thought it was just something I did wrong.

5.0.2.7 cache wipes and fix permissions do not work for ics hence the scripts. 6.0.1.2 worked great. i've had problems with 6.0.1.3 and eventually started using twrp. no regrets.
I'm using sk8's CWM 6.0.something touch recovery and everything is working.

I didn't flash 6.0.1.4 from ROM Manager (blackwing version), but I flashed it from CWM and I just got a boot loop while trying to install CM9 09-23 Nightly.
Did a battle pull, and tried to do stuff in CWM6 and it was super slow and nothing would flash. I couldn't even wipe caches or do a factory reset.
I ended up doing a Restore (which never finished) but did a battery pull and luckily I was able to boot into my previous ROM.
I never had any issues with 5.0.2.7 thanks to Darkside Super Wipe and Cache scripts, even flashing ICS and JB ROMs.

I had the same issue with 6.0.1.4 non-touch. But the touch version is working just fine.
Make sure you wipe dalvik cache and wipe partition before flash.
wow, I also had flashed the non-touch recovery and that's when I started getting all my problems.
I'm still using v5.0.26 and darkside superwipe, no issue at all roms
Twrp 2.2.2 is stable
another case of a product becoming a paid product while losing quality in the process.
Im currently running a Nandroid backup using 6.0.1.4 and its hella slow... like 20+ mins and still running, this is beyond bad. On 5.0.2.7 it ran in about 5mins.
Is the touch recovery better?
Edit: Now its at almost 40 mins... yeesh

I had the same exact problem with it yesterday. I was trying to restore my backup, so I tried to do a wipe/reset and it wouldn't do anything. So I just restored my backup anyway and it would always just stop at restoring secure.android. So I took out the battery and rebooted and my backup was restored. So I tried ROM manager to flash back to 5.0.2.7. But it constantly forced closed. So long story short, I'm now using twrp and I like it better.
Omg I thought I was the only one with this problem. Took me forever to get my phone working again. Had to Odin back to stock. 6.0.1.4 touch was working fine though (installed using Odin)

on 6.0.1.4 and 6.0.1.5, mine just hangs on "backing up .android_secure" and the progress bar never moves. I've waited up to 40 minutes with no progress. I've never completed a backup since I switched from 5.0.2.7. I'm going to switch to another recovery.
I rooted my phone fine. I unlocked my phone fine.
I installed clockworkmod recovery fine. I flashed clockworkmod. I backed up my rom at the stage after rooting and unlocking.
I then downloaded cyanogenmod from the app's download page. I downloaded it and installed it. I used the default selections which is "wipe delvich cache"
When I turned on my phone, it stays at the blue screen with the alien forever.
Any help on what to do? Thanks!
Reflash the ROM using these instructions. You probably wiped the wrong way.

I had same problem installing cm10 with cwm. In order to get past boot animation you have to use the dark side cache wipe after flashing ROM. Ideally you should -darksidesuperwipe then flash ROM then darksidecachewipe. I like to let it boot without gapps first. Set up WiFi and all that.
Try rebooting and flash darksidecachewipe. Then reboot. I always had lingering problems until I flashed twrp. After twrp is installed there is no need for darkside scripts.
Worth it to just get twrp and redo.

Try returning to stock and try again. Do things in this order: 1. Root, CWM, ETC. 2. CM7 or another 2.3 ROM (usual wipe) 3. CM9 (again, wipe)
I have been using TWRP since I purchased my NOTE 2.
I am now having a problem - When I booted into Recovery today - I ended up in a Recovery BOOTLOOP - NO matter what I did to try to "REINSTALL" TWRP, the same thing happens - when I go to recovery I get as far as the Curtain and then it reboots. (TWRP 2.3.3.3) I also tried 2.3.3.1)
SO I flashed CWM - I was able to get that installed and I can boot into CWM fine - but there are other issues.
When I try to wipe data/factory reset - the phone reboots and then launches CWM - If I pull the battery and then reboot - it reboots fine and nothing is wiped.
When I try to create a backup - the final backup seems very small to me - only 16mb
I am not sure what to do at this point? I can't make backups - and I can't flash anything really - or at least I cant flash if I need to wipe data first -
any suggestions anyone?
(PS - this happened a while back to the original NOTE 2 I had purchased, and I eventually got frustrated and returned it to ATT and got a new phone - unfortunately, I can't do that again)

Odin back to stock, install chainfires exploit fix/root apk and use it only to root then install goo manager and use it to install twrp. Did this to my note 2 and had it rooted with twrp installed before I even got home from the att store.

Thanks - I found a similar download from somewhere else- I317 - tar - I used odin - but it seemed to stick on the Samsung logo - after the 'att' boot - and never booted up - how long should it take? I waited five minutes and it didn't happen.
I am hoping this file works better -
Does it take a long time to boot up the first time?

If not - what options do I have?
Can I ROOT and then Flash CWM thru Odin - then flash a new rom?

SO - I did everything you suggested and I was able to get things working again, I am now back on TWRP and running Jelly THunder RC2 - what I am curious about is why did this happen in the first place?
I have been flashing for several years now -and this is the second time this has happened to me with a GNOTE 2 - I NEVER had this kind of problem before and I really am not doing anything different from what I did before.
Could it be related to Undervolting? I am not doing any thing crazy - but I am undervolting by about -50 on all frequencies - Could that be the culprit? Oris the GNOTE II just sensitive?
I really don't want to go thru that again and short of not flashing anything again -I am not sure what to do to try to limit the chances it will happen again? Any ideas?
I flashed TWRP 2.5 and then flashed Task's AOKP 4/9 ROM and everything went down hill from there. The phone kept rebooting after a minute or so, so I did a factory reset and reflashed the ROM. That didn't help, it actually made it worse in that it would not get past the kernel splash screen. So I did another wipe and the same thing. I wiped again and flashed an older version of AOKP 4/5 and again would only get to the kernel splash. After another hour or so I decided I'll just go back to rooted stock, so using Odin 3 3.07 I flashed my trusted root69.stock_ATT_I747UCALG1 image and now it just stays on the Samsung screen.
I've run out of thoughts on what the hell is the problem and thought I'd ask.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get this paper weight working again?

I think it's the custom boot causing this issue. Anyway good luck. I know my heart skipped a beat when my phone would boot loop while to get into recovery. Once I Odined back to stock with root first/only thing I downloaded was goomanager and installed TWRP then flashed 4/9.

I'm back up and running again. A little embarrassed I forgot the factory reset last night.
Thanks for the reminder!
AOKP is a great ROM.
When flashing ROMs always follow these steps and you will be fine.
1- nandroid backup
2- format system
3- wipe cache
4- wipe Dalvik
5- factory reset.
Most suggest doing each 3 times.
6- install ROM and reboot
7- flash gapps
Let sit for 10 minutes.
Follow those instructions and everything will be fine.

Alright, im not completely new to rooting but I have encountered a new problem.
I rooted my phone through odin (galaxy s3 T999), had some hiccups with that so I ended up downloading the stock rom tar and reflashed using that, problem solved good to go still rooted. awesome.
So, I attempted to flash the cyanogen rom using clockwork mod. it wouldn't come past the load screen, went into clockwork mod to recover my backup but for some reason it wouldn't let me access the SD card to get it. next thought was to go back to odin and flash the same file I used previously to get back to where I was, for some reason this is not working, I can get to download, use odin to flash it, says success and all that, then upoon rebooting it stays at the Samsung loading screen.
So from there I went and downloaded the GS3 toolkit and tried all of their recovery files, all having the same issue. about 18 flashes later I tried reformatting from the phone itself, same issue with the samsung logo being stuck. And now, I am currently baffled, anyone wanna help me out? I have a feeling it has something to do with the .pit option on odin, but I am not that advanced and its just a hunch. so...thanks in advance guys!
So I understand not to touch pit, roger, reading other posts makes that clear, but still cant find a fix, the top right of my download says
ODIN MODE
Product Name SGH-T999
Custom Binary yes: 19 counts
Current Binary Samsung Offical
System Status Custom
Qualcomm secureboot Enable
Okay, what is the current state of the device?
Whst do you see when you boot into recovery ( take battery out of phone the put it back in and do the following: hold volume up, home button and power button, let go of all buttons when you feel the phone vibrate and blue text flashes in the upper left corner of the screen)?

have the standard options wipe/factory, install from zip etc.
You flashed a rom that had cwm 6.0.2.3 or did you flash a rom while on 6.0.2.3?

I'd say about 98% of the time, when it hangs like that you just need to factory reset.

tried to factory reset and it does the same logo stuck business. That was the last thing i tried after attempting to back up and reflash numerous times. tried flashing again recently, it will install CWM if it is attached to the rom but still gets stuck on the logo. tried re installing odin as well, it is working as usual, starts, restarts the phone, sits awhile, success. then i restart the phone and never get past logo.
I would do what Doc said.
If it still doesnt work, download a rom of your choice (in the t-999 section) and do a full wipe before flashing the rom you picked.

When flashing a new rom, you have to do a full wipe or youll run into problems like you are currently having.
If you dont know what a full wipe is, then stop what you are doing and put your phone down. Just about every rom thread here on xda explains what a full wipe is, it will be in the first post of the thread.
Like I said, find a rom you like in the t-999 section and flash it after doing a full wipe.

Looked it up, that is what I do by default, didn't know thats what was considered a full wipe, just tried it with similar results, didn't know about the dalvik cache though. im on a work computer so I cannot currently DL a new rom from the site, I hope thats what the issue is, but I still cannot see why my other ones would suddenly not work.

I'm just not sure what you mean by it installing CWM attached to a Rom? Recoveries shouldn't be included with a Rom.
Odin flash the root66 firmware, then reboot to STOCK recovery and factory reset. This will wipe all user data, including your internal sd card. Then try rebooting again.
