How can I read books on my rooted kindle? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running cm10 aokp on my kf. When I was stock I had books that my dad gave me in a file on there. They're still on my device but I don't know how to read them. Can anyone direct me to an app to read them?

Wish the lending libaray worked.

You can side load your ebooks by plugging the kindle in, then dropping the books into the Android>Amazon.Kindle folder. The amazon kindle folder is titles something longer but I can't remember it right now. You must have the Kindle app installed for this.

Need Amazon's Kindle Fire Edition of the Audible APK

I tried to upgrade my Audible app on my Kindle Fire (running 6.3) using the more recent APK from Google Market/Play and ended up completely breaking the Audible app.
I can't roll the upgrade back because the upgrade overwrote out the Amazon version of the APK.
Does anyone no where I can get these two APKs:
>> AudibleAndroidApplication-venezia.apk
>> AudibleForAndroid-otter-unsigned.apk
I've searched the web and called Amazon customer support and that hasn't helped.

If got it, please tell me, thank you!
Nope -- still trying to get these APKs. Do you have access to them?

I got the 'venezia' APK but installing it alone doesn't work. Guessing I need both. So still hoping someone will have the 'unsigned' APK.

extracted these from the 6.3 stock rom.
Edit: helps if I actually attach them.
THANK YOU!!!

Uh....yeah....Kindle and no books

Since I rooted my Fire I seem to have lost my books and can't seem to fond them anywhere. This is on the Kindle Launcher. And also Twitter closes unexpectedly all the time. Main question here though is how to get my books back in the Kindle Launcher.

Fixed, just completely unrooted my Fire. I still have GameBoid so it's all good.

You couldve just downloaded the kindle app from amazon and all your books are there, including where you left off.

Yeah, but it's not the same. I bought the Fire over other tablets for the Fire, not the app, I have my phone for that.

Actually that is not true..the kindle app for android screws with your subscription deliveries for Mag's and books. What I did was after root I immediately put root keeper on there and unrooted .. that will help.
When I lost my subset I went into the system > apps folder and reinstalled kindle for otter. Then I ramln a sync and I was downloading my suns again.
My wife bought some subset and books when we first got the kindle fire but when those expire I am going full ice and Ak going to get books and Mags thrum play or Barnes and noble's app and ditch amazon altogether

Good advice here ... thanks. A friend came to me with his KF today saying his books would no longer open (nor did they show a book jacket/title). His KF is/was rooted, but running stock ROM. Found your post and had his books up and running in no time.
Lol dayum! I have since turned my autocorrect OFF...
Heh.. i got that answer from another here by the name of straylight so i must give credit where credit is due but yw

Has anyone got Zynga’s new game Horn to work on the Kindle Fire?

Hey guys I am just trying to see if anyone in the Kindle Fire community has gotten Horn to run and play yet, if you have please let me know your setup? What ROM are you using etc ? I cleared out the 2 gigs required to install the game and installed straight from Google Play Store but with no success. The game says its installs just fine and tries to boot up to a black screen then kicks me out and quits running. I would appreciate any help or tips u can send my way...Thanks in advance

I was going to try it out but yeesh, 7 bucks and 1.8gb?! I don't think I even have that much free space.
Yea I wouldn't recommend jumping in and giving it a try until I can get it running. I already knew it was a pretty good game because I had been playing it on iOS before it launched on Android. I have been checking everyday for an update but so far nothing to speak of. I will update this post if I can ever get it to run. I wouldn't hold my breath however.

ebook lending with ROM

apologies if this has been asked/answered before.
the wife has a kindle fire that i have put CM9 on. and for the most part she is fine with everything.
but she has amazon prime and i guess you can "check out" books for your kindle. but we are having a hard time figuring out how to make that work.
I was able to purchase FREE books and sync them with the kindle app.
but can't seem to get the lending thing down.
any help is appreciated.
thanks!
anybody? nobody reads books on their kindle? lol
Not sure what advice I can give you. I am using a CM10 ROM with a the generic Kindle app for android and I don't have a problem borrowing books. When I am browsing the Kindle book store the books that are available for borrowing (not very many actually) are marked with the "prime" tag just like they are when using a stock Kindle. You may need to be logged in to your prime account to see that but I am not sure since I'm always logged in.

Thanks for the reply - that gives me something to go on..
we would have expected to see what you are seeing, but whenever we press the kindle store icon, it just takes you out to an external web page and its difficult to navigate.
I'll try a clean wipe and install of cm10 tonight and see if that helps
Thanks!

Actually I am seeing the same thing you are getting (the web page). That is the way that the generic android Kindle app works. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the Kindle app built into the stock Fire os and the android app (stock is much better). I have read several threads by people wanting to install the stock app on a custom ROM but I am not sure if anyone has been successful. You might want to try searching for that.

If you find a way to install the stock reading app post the link please. I want to do it too.

[Q] Q about apk files

I was under the impression that apps that run on android are APK files - typically found in the data/apps directory of rooted Kindle Fire. I bought a bunch of Dr. Seuss book/apps I wanted to transfer to my granddaughter's Nexus 7 from my Kindle Fire. They're all installed on the Fire but I can't find the APK files. What am I missing?

Are you serious? Your granddaughter? I was under the impression that there are hardly anyone here over 35 years old, and here we have an awesome granny?
** (No offence. I was seriously surprised)
Most books aren't .apk. If they are amazon books they will be some weird file type in sdcard/Books/ you could then get the kindle app on the nexus 7 and just transfer the files from /Books to the /Books on the nexus 7

@Tobias
I think they're talking about those books you buy as apps and they may read the story to you and have animations. Plus, there's a sale on Dr. Suess book apps for his birthday anniversary, so it's likely they're talking about those.

Yup mnt/asec - not so simple as a single apk I can send. Oh well. To make matters worse, her dad already bought most of the same ones on the sale. I'm going to let him log on to my account and download them for her. Hopefully they will work. I've been disgusted to discover that Calengoo doesn't work unless I'm logged on to Amazon. I've gotten rid of most of the kindle fire version of apps and often forget that's what my tablet is. Good thing I'm an old lady or I'd be madly in love with twa-priv!

I have tested kindle fire-specific apps on TWA's ROM, and as long as you are logged into the Amazon appstore, they should mostly work. As far as Calengoo, i there's a Google Play version, right? If you download that, you don't have to have the Amazon appstore

Not sure why but I have to be logged on to Amazon. Google Play lists Calengoo as installed but there is still a link to Amazon somewhere. I get occasional error messages and am required to log in to my Amazon account. Irritating.
Presumably it is because it is a paid app thru Amazon. I've not purchased it separately from Google. But why does an app that is specifically designed for syncing with my Google calendar need me to be logged on to Amazon??!! Geez!!

I am not thanking you for anything but if I did I'd kiss you too.
Edit: NO KISSES FOR YOU! I'm not giving credit card info to download a "free" file!

I have an account for that site, and use it all the time. All you should need to do is put in a 4 letter code to download. Are you sure you didn't follow an ad? I did not mean to lead you to a false lead. Sorry if it doesn't work out for you.
-- edit-- make sure you click the "free download" link in green under the description.

Same here. Need to login. Does bugmenot.com work here?
- Edit - http://bugmenot.com/view/hiapphere.com might help you.
In reference to the original question, an app that can make back-up apks will usually display every application installed on the device and allow you to make back-ups of those apks. I use "File Expert" but many more are available. That eliminates the need to manually search for the files It's easy to send the back-ups to any folder of your choosing.
