I have a Samsung Galaxy 551 (GT-I5510) and I have severe problems with my gps.
Normally, it needs about 15 minutes for a gps fix (without agps). To make the fixing faster, I installed a gps-logger to check my position every two hours. By this, I could improve the fixing time to about 2 minutes (without agps).
As the summer gets really near, it's warm outside. Now, I have again problems with my gps. During the past days, I did not get a fix within 1 hour. Then I gave up. I checked the satellite connection with a gps-software. Mostly, I did not have any connection. Sometimes, my phone saw 2-4 satellites (although it was really brilliant weather outside --> no clouds).
I supposed, that the bad connection is influenced by the temperature.
Then I started putting my phone into the refrigerator. After about 10-15 minutes, I took it out.
Result:
Even inside my house, I have connection to 6 satellites. But after about 10 minutes. I lose any connection.
I don't know, how the gps antenna is installed inside the phone. But I suppose, that due to heat expension, I have problems with the connection between gps antenna and the gps chipset.
Could you help me please, to fix this problem? Where is the gps antenna located? How can I improve the connection between gps antenna and gps chipset? Can I install a better gps antenna?

Hello, for about 2 weeks my gps has been working and has been taking a little bit longer than normal to lock. but thats not the problem.
the problem is when it does lock the position will be off by 1/4th mi to about 3 miles and its usually connected to 8 or 9 sats and says position within 10-20 meters
im not very good with the metric system but im pretty sure that 20 meters does not equal 3 miles and the little blue circle is not that big
and keep in mind this is outside clear weather and no big buildings around
i was wondering because i heard that there will be no more funding for the gps sats and would slowly start failing because they wont get the upgrades they need and also i heard about a month ago that there will be some big solar flares that could mess up the sats
another thing is using gps test. is showing that the sats that are connected are lower signal than they usually are. mostly in the yellow. but i see no reason for that...
this only started happening for about a week or 2.
anyone else having this problem? can a radio update fix this? if so which would be the best one for t mobile usa (link if you can)

turn off your agps, as it uses cell tower signals to locate you, and can over ride the gps signal you are getting. the agps is triangulating your position and is generally only accurate to 300 to 1300 meters.
i thought agps was only used to get a faster lock on the sats

I had a 1 month old Desire HD and i had it without any casing for days and had very few problems. But ever since i got my resin case for it, i start to have problems receiving GPS signal. I tried it many times, with the casing i receive no GPS signals at all, but other signals like network and wifi, it works fine. Without the casing, GPS signal is back but locking would take sometime and it will not lock at all indoors (at home, usually i get locks from my old nokia N82)
Anybody having the same experience? mind sharing?
Hopefully there's a fix sumwhere or a case that doesnt have such issues...

I have recently bought a Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, brazilian version T211M with 3G and digital TV.
The idea was to use it as an in-car multimedia and GPS device using Waze. I made some tests using my Nexus 7 2013 for this purpose, and it worked flawlessly. So I bought the GTab 3 to be a dedicated tablet for this.
The thing is: the GTab 3 GPS is nowhere near the Nexus 7 GPS performance. My N7 is able to find three or more GPS satellites and lock position in a couple minutes inside my car's garage (which, BTW, is not underground, it's the building's third floor). And without A-GPS (it doesn't have 3G connection, it's the wifi version). In the same situation, the GTab 3 keeps looking, looking... and nothing. Yesterday I went out driving, and it took 15 minutes for the GTab 3 to finally lock GPS position.
Another funny thing that happens is when I stop, for example, in a traffic signal. The GTab 3 GPS gets confused somehow, it's not sure if I'm moving or if I'm stopped. Its speedometer marks 0 km/h, then 2 km/h, sometimes even 10 km/h, then 0 km/h again, the speed keeps going a little bit up, then down. Again, different from my N7, which was very precise.
As a last test, I put both tablets in my place (I live on the 9th floor), over my sofa, right beside a window and a door to the balcony. Using GPS Status (you can get it from Google Play), I tried to find GPS satellites and lock position. The N7 could do it in a couple minutes. The GTab 3 couldn't do it. I had to go outside to the balcony, stood in its end, and then finally the GTab 3 got a GPS lock. But when I go back inside, it loses the GPS signal.
I'm very disappointed about GTab 3 GPS performance, it really ruined my car tablet experience. But before I sell it and lose some money, I have to ask: is there a way to improve it's GPS performance, so that those issues are gone? Or that's the way it is, and I can't do anything about it?
I recently bought one too, haven't tested the gps yet, but comparing with my Note 3 with AGPS, it´s surely much worse.

Does anyone else have this issue? My GPS loses connection to the satellites every couple minutes. And yes, I have the latest map update.
Must be the bug in update. Try to use 3rd party app! Just because i never updated mine, and is working like a charm

The GPS in my phone is not very accurate. Maybe its just this phone. I only get relatively good GPS reception at night.

Thanks guys. I'm starting to think it may just be this phone as well. The first map told me I was 3 miles away from my house....lol...and the second was accurate but keeps dropping the signal. I do have carhome. I'll try that and see what happens.
I also have this issue though the GPS (which is used a lot by me) was quite OK in the beginning after I bought my LG OG PRO.
I read in one of the Samsung NOTE forums that people mention the same problem claiming that the drops come when there is an "interruption" (which can be an incoming call or SMS or switching from 3G antenna to 3.5G for example). After reading this I realized that my GPS gets lost always after an incoming call plus I see at least a couple of places along my daily driving routine where GPS is lost exactly at the same place every day (making antenna switch assumption logical).
There were no any conclusions or suggested solutions in these forums, people even do not know if it is software or hardware related.
Anyone has such an issue too? Any recommendations for possible fix?
I can't believe but it seems I solved the problem with GPS - 15-20 seconds for GPS lock, no dropping and GPS test application shows very nice picture of 8-9 satellites constantly locked up while most of the signal bars are yellow (i.e. the signal strength is good).
I searched a lot as it really bothered me because I use my GPS very much plus I can say that beside this annoying thing I am very satisfied with my LG OG Pro, but nothing helped until I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBpNtWvY454 (it explains the solution for Nexus 5, but my problem is identical)
Basically, the problem is that there are special contacts on the motherboard connected to the GPS antenna which is part of the back cover and the contacts are not tightened well to the GPS antenna (look at the attached picture where I put the red arrows at the relevant places). Due to the bad touch between the contacts and the antenna, the GPS does not work properly. So, all you need to do is to remove your back cover, gently "un-glue" the GPS antenna end (the rectangle part on the back cover containing 2 golden dots), lift it up a little and put a piece of paper that will tighten the antenna and mother board contacts when the back cover is returned. Good luck.
It is NFC Antenna, you cant fix GPS this way.
I have same issue, but i think NFC and GPS antennas are different. I am disassemble the phone and pull up all golden springs - but gps still very weak(((

I realigned all the pins inside the phone and fixed it for a bit, but the signal was still weak. I figured it was the modem. I installed a custom rom and it worked like a charm!
Hi. I noticed that during the cloudy sky the phone can not find the signal GPS. When it is cloudless, it takes a few seconds to find the signal. Whoever has problems with this. Unfortunately I live in uk and there is no sun so this is a big problem
For GPS to work, your phone need to be able to receive signals from multiple satellites. Clouds can block the signals. Not a lot you can do.
Possibly the receiver in this phone is impacted by the metal case? Keep it screen-up?
I noticed that FM radio reception is not as good as my previous phone...
