Are there any apps available that allows you to use the nexus 4 hardware keys (volume up, volume down) as camera buttons such as a shutter button. All solutions so far require a camera app replacement but none work on the stock camera app. It would be a really nice feature to use the volume keys as a shutter button on the stock camera app.
There is a ROM on the Galaxy Nexus called Cataclysm which has the stock Google (with Photosphere) app modified to use power button for shutter and volume for zoom. Would be nice if someone did something similar for the Nexus 4...
EDIT: I've PM'd the dev of the GNex ROM to see if he can mod the N4 camera app. Here's hoping!

Hi, first excuse me if i make some spelling mistakes i'm french
So I just want to know if there's an app wich allow you to take a photo by pressing the up or down volume button. It would be a very easier way to take photos.
Thank you !
Search for AEButton Plus and remap one of the volume buttons to the camera-function.
Works fine here
can you give an extra help with that?
All i could do is to make the volume button to open the camera.
How to take a picture with the volume button??
thanks
Oh, you actually want to use the button to take the picture. Well I don't know
It's not possible... I was trying hard to find out in past but the only thing I was able to do was mapping stylus-out event to press enter action using MobileMagic, but it worked only for taking exactly one photo, then it just stopped working and never worked again (probably until next hard reset )
help....please tell me how to take photos with volume button....?
It is not possible, the volume buttons are disabled when the camera app is running. Open the camera and press the volume buttons - does it change volume? No, it doesn't.

btw im using kwbr 3.5.6 rom just in case
Is there a mod that will let me use the volume keys to take a picture? And what app do you guys recommend to take pictures or just stick with stock?
I think it would be better to use the power button to take pictures, that way u could use the volume buttons to zoom in and out
App called Camera Zoom FX allows you to assign volume keys to camera. Pretty good app, too.

Plus it was $0.50 for a while, so I'd get it while it's hot

I'm just wondering if either the Home button or Power button can be used as a camera button.
If you use Apex or Nova launcher (and probably others), you can configure the home button to open the camera app, but not to actuate the shutter.
On my skyrocket a dev implemented volume down to take a picture. Personally I love that feature. I know there's an app called ics camera that you can set up the volume buttons to take pictures, but I actually really like the stock interface of the touchwiz camera.

Are there any tweaks for camera in Galaxy Nexus running stock Jelly Bean to take pictures using the power button instead of the on screen button and use volume rocker to zoom in/out without loosing their functionality ie they act like shooter and zoom in/out buttons when in camera and when not using camera like power and volume rocker? And even if possible burst mode?

On the stock JellyBean nope there is not. Some ROMS do have the option to change it.
Or you can buy this small app from the PlayStore called Camera ICS + which allows you to change the Volume+/- functionnality.

But it completely changes power button to camera shooter. Can't I make it switch its functionality automatically when I'm in camera and when I'm not? So that I don't have to change it every time and also it reboots every time I change it. And what happens if I don't check the option to hot reboot after the changes are applied?

Thanks. I didn't notice it.
Guys is this possible or not, someone please help
only Rom I know is cm10 which has this option working fine. Other mod are either for vol buttons or do not work correctly.
Edit. Aokp nightly I'm trying now has same option
I don't know if this has been posted already. I did search and saw nothing on it. Basically I don't use quickmemo. So I decided to assign the quickmemo button to camera. Just found out if the button is assigned to camera and you press it in the camera app, the button acts as a shutter. Pretty cool I thought. Just wanted to share.

The videos taken while in that orientation though (such that the right index finger sits on the quickmemo button) will be upside down when transferred and viewed on a PC. I didn't update to the value pack so not sure if the problem is already addressed in the later software version.
actually u dun need to set the quick button as a shutter, the default button is vol-
Actually, both - and + volume buttons work as shutter... ?
Thank you for the replies. They must have fixed the video orientation as videos are the right side after viewing on my phone and transferring to my PC. I did know about the volume keys, but I find the qmemo button more natural.
