Alright, so, I've had my nexus for a few months now, it's been the best phone ever, really happy with it.
The past 3 or so days, the Lil thing started to get FPS drops in every single game I played. It goes all butter smooth for a while, then, for about 5-10 seconds, it just goes with 2-3 fps, then goes back to buttery smooth for a while, and the thing repeats.
Games it happened during: Benji bananas, manuganu, slingshot racers, subway surfers, temple run 2, temple run oz.
All of these games worked perfectly before, no sort of lag whatsoever.
Rom I was using: xenon hd 7.1, I had it on for a few weeks then the lags started, I had ak kernel installed.
Thought to change kernel, tried Franco, same thing happened. Changed back to an updated version of ak, same thing.
Meanwhile this, the new xenon hd 8 was released, I installed it today, thinking it will surely fix the problem, it didn't.
I tried forcing gpu rendering, no improvement. it only happens when I play games tho, at least that's when I notice it happening, phone is butter smooth everywhere else.
Also, tried running the apps with and without any other apps in the background. The cpu is untouched, no over clocking no undervolting no nothing.
Any suggestions?
Anyone has any idea?

So I bought the gameloft games on sale... NOVA2, Backstab and Asphalt 6...
Haven't really tried the other games, but i play asphalt 6 a lot... But now and then it sorta freezes up my dz... kinda random... never ingame, always in menus or when entering a race... Seems like it's not gonna go away...
Has anyone experienced something like it? Should I try download the games files once more?
I'm running virtuous 2 with v6 unity kernel and sense 3 lockscreen... Haven't seen this behavior in any of my other games and i've got a lot of games..
Of course I'd rather not pull my battery if it can be avoided... but how damaging is it? I mean... it can't be that bad, can it?
Anyone?
Sorry I haven't tried running that game on my device, so I can't add anything about that.
But on pulling the battery: no, pulling the battery isn't bad for the device, but it is quite annoying. Something is obviously going wrong if its causing your phone to lock up. If this isn't happening in other games on this ROM, I'd e-mail the developer (of the app) and give them a crash report or some info on whats happening.
I'm guessing you have undervolted your CPU? The game is probably running at your max frequency and the custom voltage you set for that frequency is not enough to run stably. Happens to me too after I undervolted my DZ and tried running at 1.5GHz at 1300 voltage setting.
Awesome tips! Trying them out!
Same here with my galaxy s GT-i9000
Hi guys,
as most of you have experienced, Grand theft auto 3 came out for Android I have been waiting for it quite long, so I am very excited that it's finally here now.
I downloaded the game, and started playing it. It is playable, but it runs very snappy, laggy. I am playing with like 10 fps, wich is kinda slow..
What I tried to fix it:"
-Install the Blackice AOSP rom, so see if there's improvement.
-OC my phone to 1,5 gHz
- play it with Chainfir3D, and put the textures on low.
Like I said, the game is playable, but I think I can get more out of my phone..
Maybe I am wrong, and is this all I can get, or maybe there will come updates soon to optimize the game for this phone..
Let me know if you have any solution!
Thx
That's weird, I'm running it on Ultimate ace with pretty good fps (>30), maybe try changing the CPU governor to performance, or check if there's any battery saver enabled which could affect performance...
Thx for your fast response!
Unfortunately, this didn´t seem to help.. I even decreased the texture quality with Chainfire 3d, but this only gave me 2-3 frames win haha.
I don´t think it is because of the rom, since mine is as simple as you can get ;O
Do you have any other solution I could try?
Maybe try redownloading, perhaps you've got a bad file?
Im using the Black Ice Rom but Game runs quite good. It isnt that fluent but looks pretty good though. But I cant play the game properly. My DHD freezes and reboots after playing about a minute. I turned off undervolting, but problem didnt go away
Can someone upload there handling.cfg plz, I downloaded one for the SE arc and now the cars fly when accelerateing

I do not experience this issue. When you flashed the rom, did you do a clean install? Have you formatting the device?
Yup.. I format everything.. I use the touch recovery and just use every option that it provides and wipe everything.. It even does it when there is nothing installed. I usually delete almost all the useless system apps that I don't use like the google music app and all of the ones civato provides... I even change the animation settings to .5 in the developer section.. should I turn them off all together?

The animations should not have anything to do with it. Does this only occur on that rom? Have you tried other roms and experienced that issue?
not many other roms out there.. I have used stock and his.. had the same issue on both.. Also happens on my brother's a500.. it usually happens when unlocking and going into any app.. it sits there for a few seconds and then opens whatever it is i opened

This is starting to sound like a hardware issue. Before that is concluded, you could:
- Make sure the governor is not set to "conservative"
- Try a clean install of CM9
If the problem still arises, its most likely a hardware issue.
I'm using the OC kernel and have it to 1500.. I also always leave it on performance.. I figure it would kill my battery life but I don't use it much.. and i tried cm9 also.. too many issues as of right now

It doesn't seem it can be anything else but a hardware issue in that case.
NB. Overclocking to a high frequency can cause instability and bring about that issue (but since you experienced it on the stock rom, its quite likely not to be that).
the overclocking helps to speed it up a tad bit.. for the most part it just lags.. i did a clean install just now
Thought I would jump in. Stock ics would slow down and lag on me, jittery transitions poor performance in games or movies, but it took an hour not a few minutes. However testing the T20 kernel before the release kernel had that exact issue, bogging and lagging within minutes.
His release kernel doesnt do it, and flex extreme as well as my cm9 builds don't, even with T20 kernel. Consider flashing that kernel to see what happens.
Side note...what issues did you have with cm9? And what release? My build 1 has been running for 3 days no reboots stable as can be undervolted and OC when needed. Something to maybe think to try to see if it persists. T20 kernel works fine with it too.

That reminds me...setting a screen off profile with the same min/Max speed can cause issues with that, give Max a notch or two higher. And don't have it change the governor leave it the same. So like interactive screen on Myst nit be conservative screen off, doesn't work that way.

I had the same issue on stock. I noticed there are 2 weather applications installed (version 1 and version 2) immediately after I disabled the old weather application (version 1) this stopped happening. I used the ICS GUI to do the disable.
This might not be the case in custom rom, but is true for stock. Post reply and let me know if this fixed it for you also.

I felt the need to add my two cents in this....this has been happening to me for the longest with the flex reaper rom ONLY. I've used stock and ZN's rom and those did not lag after unlock...only flex reaper. I'm currently using flex reaper and still experience it from time to time but doesn't destroy my day at all...
Give the CM9 nightly ROM's a go. No Bluetooth n no HDMI audio, but everything else is fine n damn smooth. Those issues will be fixed though

I installed Flex 100 Reaper with stock and it it seemed to run smooth enough. Then I installed the OC kernal, and started to get lag. I was looking around to find the OC settings, but can't see it anywhere in settings..
Can anyone direct me to where can I adjust the governor/max/min CPU settings?
Sorry for the noob question.

Setcpu from the play store.
The overclock settings are not integrated like CM.
I'm using Arconium ICS with Trinity Kernel (they're all latest versions) on my Arc, so far so good, but whenever I play a demanding game such as Six Guns, Riptide GP, the phone hangs and then reboots. I have tried many times and the problem still persists. Does anybody ever see this problem before. I would love to have some input on that

Go BAck To Stock KErnel For Better Gaming Performance.
Use a different kernel, i recommend Doomkernel for gaming and overclocking (depending if your ROM will let you use Doomkernel)

Hi there
I have a Galaxy nexus on android 4.3 and running 3d games have lots of lag. For example, the game with the most amount of lag is Modern Combat 4 with the meltdown update. Is there a way to improve the gpu processor power on the phone so that itwouldboost the framerate? Its always about 5-15 fps and im so annoyed. If there is a solution, could you let me know? My galaxy nexus is not rooted.
Does it plays smoothly then, for no reason, it gets laggy for some seconds, then come back to play everything smoothly again, then repeats? Or it just keeps being laggy at all times?

It does exactly that, it plays smooth for 5 seconds then ridiculous lag for 10 seconds then repeats like a loop.

What I'm gonna tell you now may be related to what what is happening with your device or not. It was my problem, so if it's not this I don't know what can be happening.
First, the galaxy nexus can downvote it's processors when it's too hot, although it's probably not that, just keep that in mind.
Anyway, go to settings - apps then "running apps" and check the used and free ram. If you have high RAM usage (like, 600 mbs being used) than this is probably the problem. While you're in the game, your gnexus will try to clean RAM for it, but since your gnexus is already out of RAM, it will force close background app's and services, but since those are required to run all the time, all that's going to happen is that they will keep being restarted, causing lag in the apps that are running.
To check if this is the problem, just check how much free ram you have free. If it's too low, open a game (even temple run 2 or sub way surfers will do), then when the game starts, go back to settings-app-running apps and check for things restarting.
If this is the problem, then you need to see what is the apps that are consuming all your RAM (although it can be android itself, just keep reading).
Just check what apps are in the running part of the "running apps". If you have a lot of apps running, then you can try freezing some of them or unnistalling the ones that consume more RAM. BUT! it may be that there's just too much RAM being consumed even though you have few apps running, in this case, the problem is android itself.
I don't know if this happens to android 4.3 itself, the gnexus's version of it or if it's some app causing it, but there's a memory leak that will eventually consume all your RAM. I'll use my case as an exemple: I have some common apps running on background (facebook, messenger, whatsapp, airdroid, 3d watchdog). If everything is normal, my "used RAM" keeps aroung 430mb~. Leaving almost 200mb~ free for apps to use. But after some days using my phone, the used ram will grow to 500, then 550, then 600mb, eventually to 630mbs.
Check if this is happening to you. To check, simply reboot your device, then when it boots, check how your RAM is being used.
If it was normal before the reboot (around 500mb, probably even less) and stay this way after the reboot, then your problem is another one, then I can't help you.
If your RAM was high and after the reboot it's still high, check your running apps.
If it's high but after the reboot it's back to normal, then you just "solved" your problem. Just keep rebooting daily.
If this was your problem, then enjoy your phone. If it's not, you can try checking some other things like the I/O speed (which was solved in android 4.3. Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971852&highlight=trim ).

When I checked, I had about 300-400 megabytes of ram being used. Thank you for the info and the effort though. It has a dual core processor, it should be able to run well.
I figuare out the problem of the game lag, the CPU temperature limt!
If you're using custom kernel, set the limit to 74, and u will find out it smoothly on game play, plus if you of the gpu to 384, its almost lag free, but frame drop is also here coz the gpu power.

FKU also incorporates LeanKernel Updater so why isn't it optimized
And just to add that the above trick of disabling thermal throttling works nicely for me. I always wondered about why playing PPSSPP produces random lag - setting the governor to "performance" won't help a bit - and FKU saved my ass!
