painted on chrome bezel starting to chip off?? - LG Optimus G (International)

Why do phone companies use painted on chrome? Its a nightmare, makes your phone hard to sell if its chipped, just like the galaxy s2 and s3, they should have just left it black,
My htc one x looks brand new because it doesnt have stupid chrome/metallic paint
Rant

Ive broked my screen once, so the chrome on my phone got a big scratch/deformation. It seems like LG used real metal with black paint lines on it rather than black plastic with chrome lines painted over it.

Has anyone noticed that the silver keys Send,End, Back on the front get scratched up really quickly. Everywhere else on the phone is protected and brand new but the phone has been sitting on my desk for a couple days. Is it a scratch magnet or what?

well what caused it to get scratch? maybe there were objects that were hitting against it in your pocket(if you do put it in your pocket)
or do you flip the phone over for speakerphone and tend to drag it on the desk around?
i certainly have no scratches on mine and i did drag it a little but none
Huh?
I don't have any scratches whatsoever on my phone. I had this baby from December and the only protection I have my phone is the screen protector. I don't what you have been rubbing against your phone but it must be something rough, as posted above.
I've had my TP2 for months and no scratches here.
the screen is definitely a scratch magnet! my screen protector is less than a month old and its noticeably time for a new one

Well that's what you have the screen protector for! That said.... depending on the quality of your protector it will show more wear quicker. For a time I ran on old tilt without a protector and NO scratches showed up on it at all. Then I put the protector on and bam... after a month.. scratched to hell. Same tile the Tilt 2!

Annnd yeah I have had my phone since December and not a scratch on the thing. I keep my phone in a holster on my belt and when I'm in my truck it goes into the car holder. I often put my phone face down on tables and what not and no scratches on the front for me.
It's all based on how careful you are with something that has value. Perhaps it's just you and not the phone.
Actually what I was asking everyone was whether or not they noticed that the chrome keys are pretty prone to light scratches, hardly noticeable in certain angles. There was an issue like this with the touch pro where they were exchanging phones for free at repair centers.I bought the phone a week ago and have barely used it and noticed that the chrome keys were lightly scuffed its as they put so much care into everything and stick some crappy chrome on it to make it stand out. Ive had HTC phones the past 4 years and hate the chrome keys and bezels. My screen is always protected sorry if I confused some.. I treat my phone with alot of care so the user and not the phone comment was unnecessary. I was just asking other peoples opinions. I had the same problem with the Tilts chrome keys where the paint just wore away with regular use.
Ive just noticed that different carriers use different materials and finishes on phones to make it more branded. Also I was talking about a sprint TP2 and I went into the reverse logistics and found out it was a refurb so it wasn't as new as I thought.
Thanks for everyones thoughts though.

[Q] White version: is it prone to dirt?

Hello!
I was just wondering if the owners of the white version of the Motorola Defy
could tell me if they have had any problems with the white part being prone to dirt?
Or is it still looking as new? Is there any easy way to clean it?
I picked up my old white sony PSP today and noticed that the back part (which is not glossy) had some slight yellowish color to it even though I havent used it very often. I figured a white defy might get "dirty" alot easier since I'd pick it up alot more often than a PSP.
Also, is the white part made of some kind of rubber material or is it all hard plastic like the psp?
In short, is this something to worry about? Did anyone here take this into consideration when choosing between a black vs a white one?
I would think that at least some of you chose this one since you perform some kind of "dirty work" (you know, like construction of something)?
Kind of a funny color choice by Motorola then, for a "rugged" device I mean...
I didn't notice any yellowish color on my 6 months old Defy, I think this phone is too new for that kind of dirt. Cleaning is no problem: just take it into the bath. Keep in mind, that the side border around the screen is kind of rubbered on the white model, meanwhile the black ones have some shiny coating, which isn't so resistant. I prefer the white one, looks way better.

totally agree. White is simple cool I mean there is not a single mark of dirt on after 4 months of serious rough use., and it doesnt have any shiny part excep the display. So the grip in hand is quite good. and i have to admit i am a man of black and white(not only for desy, i love that color combination on anything)!

Black/Grey or White?

as the title says, which one? and why
sorry for post
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
Man I went back and forth on this so much, eventually called clove at the last minute and changed to white. Grey looks awesome though! I just thought the white showed off the body styling a bit more, and the glossy edges didn't stand out as much on the white. Plus I can find where I put it down much easier
White without a shadow of doubt... It just stands out and really shows of the curve and design of the phone. I've had the phone a few days now and there is still not many people out there using White phones will also makes you feel a little unique haha.
I was also undecided about which color to get but eventually I ordered the white one.
I like both but after seeing them both I went for the dark one.
It has to be white.
This phone is made to be white, it looks absolutely fantastic.
If I could only get grey, I wouldn't get one at all. The difference is night and day.

White looks great BUT get's dirty very quickly and could stain much more easily. I put my white SGS2 down on a desk at work and afterwards had a small blue stain from a drop of ink or so on it. It took a lot of cleaning alcohol and rubbing before that had faded away! With the 'texture' on the back of the One X I'm not sure that would ever come off.....so black it was for me this time ;-)
Grey here.
The White will end up a piss stained yellow eventually, regardless of claims made. The iPhones don't suffer such a fate because of the glass. Any polycarbonate discolours in time.
I also don't like the fact the white makes the phone more easily identifiable in public. People will know what it is as soon as you pull it out of your pocket. That's just asking for trouble.
It's a shame because overall I think the white looks stunning but there's just too much unknown risk for comfort.

I can wipe the ink marks easily. I saw some videos with some one writing with a ball pen on the back of white one x and wiping it so easily. So, I am with white.

i got a dark one... seems better to me
It really depends on how you look after your phone...but here is the real truth. The polycarbonate body isn't all that tough despite what HTC have said. The white one IS stain resistant but not stain proof!!
But the real issues actually lie with the grey one.
1) It is a fingerprint magnet. Even cleaning it with a damp cloth doesn't remove the fingerprints easily. You will need mild detergent mixed with water on the cloth.
2) It goes SHINY when scuffed. In fact, a few grey models I saw were actually slightly marked out of the box from new.
3) Rubbing at it over time, such as in a pocket or from brisk cleaning, may cause the finish to change where this happened.
The big advantage of the white one, is that the texture differences are much less visible especially if rubbed or has fingermarks and is actually, and surprisingly, likely to look better if not exposed to too much staining risk.
Having said all of that, I think the grey looks more refined and sophisticated. BUT, I ended up with a white one for what I consider those practical reasons above. I absolutely hate when matte surfaces go shiny when they get rubbed/scratched etc.
The Xperia S is the absolute WORST plastic phone for a long time. A fantastic phone badly let down by the choice of casing material. The black matte surface rubs off VERY VERY easily. The white one stains almost immediately you have it and the staining doesn't come off.
This is one area I think Apple have pegged. The iPhone 4/4S phones simply do not age with careful-normal usage. A good choice of metal and scratch resistant glass surfaces. OR HTC should do what they did with phones like the Evo 3D, where you can replace the whole back with a new one when it gets scruffy.
Black? they only do White and Gray
Bought TWO WHITES ones... one for me and one for my wife... now having difficulty to differentiate between both ... but White is outstanding..

White!!
Oredered a white without seeing in real life. It was really beautiful when i first saw it. Nog i've send it Doa , and in the mean time I saw a grey one live in a shop. So if I wanted too I could get a grey one now, but there is no doubt I'm getting a white one again!!
I really didn't like the grey one... It looks like just another dark rectangle smartphone... You don't see the design as with the white one.
The grey one in the shop was full with fingerprints, smudge, uneven coloring, just weird. And the white one was as new...
And that from a guy that never tought he would want a white cell phone:d.
White and hopefully an invisishield is made soon incase of spills

Noobish guide -Turning Black T989 into white with white battery door and vinyl decal

This with reference with other threads talking about changing colours:
such as minotauri's thread so check his thread out too.
Purpose of this thread
Just wanted to share my pics (at Bottom) and helpful tips for any first time doers to customizing...or have a place where you can ask questions some noobs might think are stupid but it's cool that what this is for
Obviously i'm not responsable for anything that YOU do TO YOUR phone ...just a disclaimer just incase...obviously this is not rocket science but better safe ...and OBviously Not responsible for the Sellers on ebay...and what they do. Your actions are your own...thanks now that's clear ...we move on.
Ok so i had a black t989d samsung galaxy S II from telus
I bought a white vinyl decal and a white battery door of ebay.
Ebay links of the ones i bought (links may expire over time)
White Door : http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OEM-BATTERY-...785829?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35b9c24ee5
White vinyl decal (basically like a sticker but it will not leave marks or glue on you screen so it's safe)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/White-Vinyl-...495791?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19cd79d3ef
Tips :to applying the vinly on the front
i would recommend buying 2 vinyls just to be safe or mess up sticking it properly...the stickness is best the first time/ second time
Clean your phone first -microfibre clothes are best...like those tiny cloth sheets that comes with sunglasses
I say second time only if you didn't press down firmly on it to make it stick if you just gentle drop on using mainly the weight of the sticker itself it cool to remove it and re-adjust 2 maybe 3 times
Obviously remove the holes for the camera and hearing speaker
Use the bezel, the silver frame that goes around the sides of your phone to guide yourself to being straight
APPLYING:
The way i apply it is holding the top Thick / fat part (front facing camera ) on edges (so it doesn't stick to my fingers) with first finger and thumb rougly around the centre same thing with the bottom part with the 4 android buttons (both hands being above the sticky part not below)
then use my middle fingers to push the lines along the frame to make them come straight....more importantly trying to line up the bottom so the lights light up the drawings on the stick for the 4 button it won't come perfect which is ok but the light should be really close to it if you line up the bottom with the silver frame
Note for the camera part there's an outline sticker that goes around the camera piece as well ...for that remove the battery door is makes it easier
What my black phone looks like after:
Front and back image - Pic 1 and 2
Battery door / camera piece can be seen- Pic 3
LED light 4 buttons - Pic 4
DON't forget to HIT the THANKS button (thumbs up) if you found this helpful

Umm sure but the screen protector should ideally, either cover the entire front including the top, like around the front camera etc...or be the same size or smaller then the rectangle that fits inside the frame of the white vinyl ...only because it will have a weird little raised outline underneath of the protector...if you don't mind that then yeah should be fine...hopefully that makes sense what i said and it's not confusing LOL (PS unfortuantely it doesn't come a protector for the screen)
an alternative...just an opinion ... would be you could get another screen protector (i know a lil more costly) then remove the old one...place the white vinyl on the phone take the new protector (without pealing the back thingy that protectors the stickness) place on top of the phone trace with a marker (on the side that peals away of course)cut the outline with an exacto (X-acto) knife *after tracing, take it of the phone to use the exacto lol just saying to be safe...never know people may try exacto on top of their phone LOL *
Hope that helps...feel free to ask any other questions
Looking for a front vinyl without the four android buttons printed on. Just clear black, white, or carbon. Does anyone know where to get one for the T989? Thanks.

yeahh that is a bit tricky but if you look closely i'm not exactly on the light i'm slightly off ...it's nearly impossible to get it dead on 100% but if the light falls under to light up the printed button it should be good enough....i actually mainly focused on the framing the whole as straight as possible using the bezel (silver frame of the phone) as the guide...the button should line up roughly 95% if you get it straight frame on frame... if it helps my top corners both left and right have a lil black space showing (around the curves) you can't even see it really....it cuz i focused on making sure my front camera and senors were not covered and then lined everything up downwards.....hopefully this makes some sense...LOL
wow nice job looks just like my white SGS2

Turning black galaxy s2 into white

I've been a while wanting to transform my black galaxy into a white one. I've been reading a lot of posts and I can see that the main problem is that it's pretty difficult to change the frontal screen into white, cause if you change that part the screen is going to break, And of course, buying a white full screen is insane cause it's just too expensive. However, I've seen a screen for 8 dollars in ebay (apparently it's not just the frontal, it's the full screen) and I would like you guys to tell me if you would recommend this screen:
"White LCD Touch Digitizer Screen Assembly Display For Samsung Galaxy S 2 i9100" en ebay.com

It's way too much trouble. If you want to change the phone to white, you might as well buy a white GSII. If you change screen, you'll need the chrome bezel-ed frame as well.(black screen has a black frame). Then you'll need a new white housing. I wonder how many internal hardware components will break in the process?
Or you could make it black and white. Mine was originally black. All I did was change the back housing to white, and viola. All for just 12 bucks on ebay. I want some uniqueness in the World of monotonic black and white, red and pink S2s. A certain combination. Mine is a 2000Mah setup so it'll appear thicker because of the supplied battery cover.
(Also in my sig, but I uploaded higher res pics + more of them.)
Good luck.
I opted for an all aluminium-glass-carbon fiber appearance and feel for my black GS2. It feels like a completely different phone!
That is one good looking s2 man were did you get that???
MS1 Neatrom 4.4 Jeboo 4.x +
It's a normal Galaxy S2 with a Sweet-armor and some carbon fiber 3M Di-Noc cut to size on the battery cover.
The "chrome bezel" bit is part of the metal plate that the lcd is glued to.
Take your phone to Charlie from Boyd Coddington (American Hot Rod).He could spray it any colour you want.
I think it doesn't look that great with the back covering in black and the front part in white . Anyways I think the screen was good and I've just made a mistake. I think there was an error, and the screen costs now 86$. I should have bought it U_u

There was no error; $86 seems like a much more appropriate price for a GS2 AMOLED panel. You can buy the glass separately, and install it separately, although it is highly recommended that you don't. And do you mean front part in black and back part in white?

So you changed the front screen to white and the back to black? Or are you saying I made my S2 uglier than usual with the black in front and the white behind? haha I thought the black will blend with the screen well enough at certain angles. I don't like white front phones either, since screens are usually bluish black. I can't imagine what it'll look like with a white front and a black back.
Anyway for those wondering whether if the camera and vibrator modules are stucked on to it permanently, no they are just held with a piece of tape to the assembly and it's easy to pry them apart with a pair of tweezers with careful handling.
This 30 minute highly detailed and carefully explained, about disassembling the S2 should do it. Good luck.

Yeah, it might be a bit bulkier, but it feels like much more of a phone, if you know what I mean. From the top of my head, the S2 weighs 116g, and my S2 with case and battery and all weighs about 158g. It is much heavier, but I like it.

It is true; officially, the Galaxy S2 only supports up to 32 GB, but that's because SDXC cards are formatted using exFAT by default. If you format it using FAT32, then you're good to go.
You can always buy those colored screen protectors.. I dont know what they're called. They're very cheap too. Just change the back to white and buy one of these for the front
