Galaxy Note 8 keyboard on T mobile GN2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi. If you are the sort of person that likes to peck away at the keyboard with your stylus then you might consider porting the Galaxy Note 8 keyboard
to your T mobile Galaxy Note 2. Actually it is fairlly finger friendly too and fun to play with as it has option for making split keyboard and floating keyboard. The zip file and instructions for it are in this thread. Please thank xperiacle as his hard work brings us this nice app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228836
please check post #41 for full instructions on odex roms and thank that poster (andnote)!
The only differences for me is, when using xposed framework apps settings module, set dpi to 320 and set Screen(dp) to 800x1280 (I know it doesn't match GN2 but works ok. Perhaps someone can fix to give option of 720x1280)
EDIT: Don't forget to check out the writing recognition option! (added a screen shot)
Here are some screen shots from my T-Moble Note 2

I followed the instructions but get FC when trying to open Samsung Keyboard settings. Should I try to rename the old .apk and reflash?
EDIT: nope, that didn't get it working either. On Tweaked 2.0 (UVMB4).

Did you follow the instructions in post #41 of the thread I referenced? I had added that reference as it had more complete instructions. Sorry if you tried this before reading that post as it is helpful.
Also make sure when you start out that your default keyboard is not samsung. Use an alternate keyboard to edit the samsung keyboard setting such that Key-tap sound is not checked (its in the advanced part of samsung keyboard settings). Apparently enabling Key-tap sound can cause FC. Anyways, once you disable Key-tap sound, make samsung keyboard default. One more thing. Did you wipe Dalvik cache?

I tried everything but changing DPI. I assume then that this is only for Paranoid Android-type ROMs with per-app DPI then?

I'm not using Paranoid Android ROM. I'm just using the basic BMB4, rooted, and philz recovery. I use Xposed framework to change dpi among other things.
Here is a link to Xposed installer and module for changing dpi

Ah I see, sorry about that, I'll give that a shot.

Are you on DPI 320 and just flash the keyboard it will give good layout?
As im at DPI 240. And flashing this keyboard, the layout not align well. Plus, using app per settings giving bad alignment too.

Yes. I am using 320 dpi all the way. While I especially like the option of a floating keyboard, I find it's just tad too small but I still have it as my default (at least until the novelty wears out!) and switch keyboards as needed (I use hackers keyboard a lot because I need Ctrl, tab esc.. and thumb keyboard is nice in landscape) . Perhaps someone can come up with a more optimal configuration.

Should this work on a Sprint Note II also?

finally it work.. with 240dpi :good:
after more then 5 times rebooting to test the current dpi

My S Note will not open. It gives error "Unfortunately*S Note has stopped". FC. Other wise it works well with dpi to 320 and set Screen(dp) to 800x1280. I reflashed my rom. All is well. I would like the Note 8 keyboard though.

One possibility is to try S Note for the Galaxy Note 8. I tried it and it does seem to work but I have not found the optimal dpi. Currently I use dpi 320 and Screen (dp) 800x1280 with no FC.
Here is a link to get the S Note for Galaxy 8 plus a treasure trove of other apps to test! Try and let others know your experience.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217662
EDIT:S BTW, S Note 8 seems to work nicely when setting apps dpi to 213 and screen (dp) to 800x1280 via xposed apps setting module. If you are finding that S Note FCs when starting up, a possible solution: If you have titanium backup, first delete the original S Note via TB. Then flash S Note 8 via recovery. Do a dalvik wipe cache, reboot and change settings as described. This has worked for others as well.

choco376 has pointed out that voice recording causes FC with S Note 8.
I noticed if you check permissions in the Xposed App Settings module you will see that there are quite a few missing
shared packages including app to record audio and others to integrate S Note 8 better with phone and other applications.
Perhaps if we could flash the S Voice app (among others) for Galaxy Note 8 that would go a long ways. Anyone know where to find this?
Thanks!

Just FYI, pixel density is not the same as dpi. A lower pixel density leads to an increase in dots per inch.

Sorry, I should've said "LCD Density". Decreasing that increases PPI and DPI - well, perceptually anyway, the LCD is still fixed at 1024x600. Given that the actual screen is 6.0" x 3.5" (7.0" diag) that means a native PPI/DPI of approx 170. I've no idea how LCD density relates to these values - can someone explain?
The wiki page nicely explains why I always feel like I can fit more "stuff" onto a Windows desktop than an OS X one though

Did anyone get the Camera.apk to work with low densities? I just switched to 172 and I'm loving it. Everything looks much better.. except the Camera da FCs on startup.
Im using my galaxy note 4 in 460dpi and grren dialer button stretches. Will this fix the problem? Also how can i install this xml file

[Q] LCD density and app resizing

Anyone else found that when they set a custom density not all apps resize, they seem to keep the default density of the Samsung ROM? even though it has been changed. NOVA HD was one but also dialler app and camera for me.
It is also irritating that touchwiz seems to be locked to particular density as well. Anyone found any workarounds for this?
I assume you've turned Compatibility Mode off in Spare Parts? If not, try that first.
TouchWiz seems to misbehave even with that turned off, but I've had no problems with anything else being too small while running at 192 density.
you weather and clock arent squashed up into the top left hand side of your screen then, leaving about 3/4 inch column down the right hand side?
Have to wait for a good multi dpi theme or rom... but I think without cwm they'll have to wait

Yeah there's quite a few oddities when changing density. I basically worked around it by replacing most of the default programs.
Dialer: DialerOne
Camera: One of the numerous camera apps in market
Music: Poweramp
Videos: mVideoPlayer
I still have to find decent replacements for Calendar and Contact list, though the contact list doesn't look bad really.

Ok, using this post as reference, I messed around with the Contacts.apk file.
I managed to resize the default dialpad to fit 200dpi.
Note that this apk was only tested on VillainRom. I don't think the signatures are compatible with normal deodexed roms.
However the scrolling aid on the right side when searching through contacts is still too small. Haven't found how to fix that yet.
EDIT: Also fixed the TouchWiz Calculator. Fits nicely on both portrait and landscape mode.
As I mentioned on another post below, if it doesn't work on your ROM, just replace the META-INF directory in my apk with the META-INF from your original apk to resign that package.
NOTE: Previous version of Contacts.apk still had misaligned landscape dialpad. I've fixed it and reuploaded.

thx for the help!
Well an easy way for you to get it to work on yours is to download the Contacts.apk that I uploaded. Copy your Contacts.apk somewhere, and open both apks in 7zip. Then just copy the META-INF directory from your apk to my apk. That basically changes the signature. Once that's done my apk should work for you.

Let's take it one step further, what are the files you changed in your apk? For example, I know with the dialer, we may only need to change dialer_app.xml.

I actually went overkill on the apk. I basically grabbed the layout_resize java file from this thread and ran it on all layout xml files. Basically the script replaces all x dip references to x * 1.5 px. It's a bit unwise actually, but so far it's working as intended. Gonna test it for a few more days to see if replacing all dips broke anything.

i've used one called LCD Resolution and when it changed it, it didnt do a "full" reboot; but a quick "system restart" . thats how i update my market apps. it's a really quick restart too. just be sure to turn wifi off after it restarts and then back on. it doesnt stick for some reason.
edit: not too sure if it works on ics

The hong Kong firmware has it. LJ4. Its a chinese keyboard but has full english option

I like it as it is. It has stopped some very embarrassing auto correct inputs I used to get earlier with my Note1.

[!] Screen off Memo Note 5 ported [i] Unrooted/rooted

Note 5 goodness on Note Edge!
Enjoy this wonderful app by @xperiacle which gives you the Screen off memo, s-note thingy without unlocking the screen, in an instant! I'm linking the thread instead of the app so you go and thanx him there (and perhaps me? ).
Basic steps :-
1. Change s pen detachment option to none.
2. Run the app once.
3. Profit
Original link by xperiacle- http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/themes-apps/app-screen-off-memo-t3196790
Tested on N9105G 5.0.1, N915F 5.1.1.
Almost every other variant.
Let me know if it doesn't work
P. S. This only works on DEFAULT LOCKSCREEN. If you have any other lockscreen it might not work like Go Locker or something else.
When i pull out the S-Pen the Screen goes on an there is no Screen Of Memory Function. The Air Commander is starting.
Change option to None when S pen is detached.
Then you need to click the app icon once. Next turn screen off by pressing the power button once. Remove spen then it would automatically show the s off and you can write anything you want
915F, 5.1.1, ok.

What is your lock screen setting? Turn it to swipe. S pen detach shortcut should be off instead of air command or any other function.
Hi skyhigh73, the s pen detachment option in s pen setting must be put to none. And the app must be click once. If you have done that, then sorry, can't help you there.
I think it needs some lock screen security to work. Swipe will do.

How did you go with problem?
Thanks all for your help.
Finally I got it to work.
The problem was in the lock screen. I was using (Google Next Lock screen application) which was incompatible with off screen memo. I removed the application and changed the native security settings to swipe instead of pattern which was also incompatible with off screen memo. And it worked finally after rebooting and starting the application once.
Thanx for all for help and patience.
Glad you got it working. I'll add it to OP that it works with default lockscreen only.!
