[Q] Change in rooting procedures for 5.07 build? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for the probably newbish question, but I did search. I've looked through all of the recent threads but I can't see anything regarding the procedure for this build. I think this is a new build - I remember some type of update coming through a while ago, but I don't remember how long ago it was.

Yep, noob question, but all is forgiven.
4.67 guides work for 5.07 generally.

[Q] New EVO w/2.2... where to start?

Ok, so I'm not new to rooting or flashing... but I'm used to Samsung devices. I have a rooted Epic.
I just picked up an EVO for my kiddo, and was hoping you guys could give me a quick list of the newest/most efficient recovery, root method, ROM, etc. Please post up what ya got. The phone comes out of the box with Froyo 2.2. I know everyone has their own opinions, but I don't want to risk bricking a phone by using an old root method that's been found out or something.
Thanks everyone!

Not new to rooting and flashing yet you dont know this is the developement forum not Q&A? As for a quick list of the newest/most efficient recovery, root method, ROM, etc.... Thats pretty much what the dev forum is... or is supposed to be anyway, except people keep insisting on starting threads here featuring lame questions....
Everything you are asking for on on the Evo Wiki page. The link to it is one of the stickies on this particular forum:

Thank you, rugedraw. I really appreciate it. I know my request came off a bit lazy but I was typing it up right before I left for work. Thanks a bunch.
I rooted my Samsung Epic in just a few mins, but this Evo is a PITA. I've run through the unrevoked 3.21 a few times and it just doesn't complete. I've followed all of the instructions and it runs, but doesn't finish.
I'm not sure where to go from here because it seems everyone else is having no trouble at all. I am currently on a brand new EVO with 3.30.651.2
No one is willing to point me in the right direction?

I don't know where it is, but there are posts on how you can root the 3.30 build, it just can't be rooted the same way you root a 3.29 build.
Sorry bout all the dicks on here but I actually just rooted my evo running 2.2 froyo with unrevoked3 it took 2 attempts but works perfect just go with that and you'll be smooth sailing.

I appreciate the response. I've tried all of that. It's not working because I'm 3.30.651.2.
You probably have a new version of the phone with hboot 2.02.
Go here and read up.

[Q] Radios: where to learn

Hello,
I've looked at the wiki, but it just seems to be links to downloads.
I want to know if it might be possible to configure the radios. I know there are custom radio images. so my question is:
what are these radio downloads
how are they used
why are they used
how are they edited
and how can i learn how to do it myself?
Thanks
Laser
surely someone can help me?

To my knowledge we don't have custom radios they are simply taken out of the update files.
(Not sure how true that statement is)
But talk to caulk or the guy who does the fresh Roms those are the only 2 i have seen post radios....
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
From what I understand, radios are developed by Sprint and/or HTC and are not open source. So hacking them and posting here would be illegal. This is just my best guess though. Plus, I don't recall ever seeing custom radios in the EVO forum.
Sent from my HTC Supersonic
none are custom. just you cant ota with root so you need to flash the updates (including radios) manually.
oh ok, that's a bit disappointing, but thanks guys

Well if they say, you can't then you probably can't this time. Also in other threads were updates - people are working on it. It will be on the forums, when root is available.
thanks alot
You have to wait either for HTC to release their boot unlocker or someone else who manage to root it. It's a race. Wonder who will faster.

aren't there rooted stock GB roms in development section? maybe you should ask developers how did they do it?
Here's an idea, search before making a new thread. Its right there in the rules of these fora. There are multiple threads about this subject already. If you can type then you can read, right?

You do read that its not about rooting an ordenary gingerbread device, right?
After HTC released the official upgrade to 2.3.3 alot of eager smartphone users have left their cooked 2.3.x rooted devices stranded on the upgraded 2.3.3.
As did I. Now I am too looking for a solution to get back to the much better 2.3.x rooted version gingerbread that I had before.
I understand threadstarters frustration. Maybe so should you instead of flaming?
Have a nice day...
EDIT: just found the other thread about downgrading to bootloader 0.93. But still think a decent reply to a kind would be nice, eventhough there are other threads about same topic.
Yes and as we all said there are already multiple threads about this exact subject. I understand that the thread starter is frustrated but there are others with the same problem already. Thats why you're meant to search before posting new threads, because there are already threads covering this topic.

This can be done.
I s-off and rooted my desire running official gingerbread today.
You need this tool from revolutionary.io (sorry I cant post links yet)
It was quite easy (after finding a guide on google).
I needed to root so I could updated the radio and have 2 way call recording, it's working perfectly. Well happy

Help me get from 4.0.4 to stock 4.2 please. I am rooted

Hey folks,
I rooted my GS3 months ago and recently tried downloading the OTA update. The update failed and now I am stuck at 4.0.4 and when I tried to update I have a grayed out continue update option. I don't mind manually flashing the update via usb but I want to stick with just a stock rom just rooted so I can remove the bloatware and use Titanium Backup. Could someone point me in the right direction please?
Try getting a clue and posting in the right section moron.

Hey, he's just trying to fit in with the rest of the stuck-up XDA followers whom have a false sense of entitlement lol.
For the OP, 4.2 is not out just yet. I'm sure you meant 4.1.1 JellyBean. Take a look here, it's a great tutorial to get to the new update for the brand NEW stock GS3 Touchwiz Jellybean. It allows you to keep your root as well:

Now, wasn't that easier than just telling him that he is an idiot? Yes, it's the wrong section, but damn... some people.

Wow. Attitudes like that are certainly NOT what this or any forum are about. Who the hell do you think you are to think you are so damn entitled? Quick tip, GTFO. The guy doesn't know so cut him a little slack.

Also good advice. I'm sure there are a few stock based TW ROMs in the development section that the OP can flash. I wouldn't know as I'm an AOSP head. Anyway, the OTA update probably failed due to the fact that he's rooted and probably removed some bloat. My suggestion to the OP would be to flash any of the JB Touchwiz ROMs in the subforum I mention if that's what he wants. There's also tutorials floating around on how to do that if he's unsure of what to do.
Also, thread reported for movement.
Silly Humans. All you had to do is report that it was in the wrong section and one of us would move it out of Development and into the appropriate section. Oh wait, that is what 1 user did do.
I was going to clean this thread out but instead, I'll leave all the responses so that if anyone comes across this, they'll know what not to do and how not to respond to threads started in the wrong section.
Moved to Q&A
Thanks Wood. I have that magical mod power on other forums and miss it when I visit forums I don't have the power in. The responses some people give are just aggravating.
Thanks guys!
Sorry for the wrong forum. I tried posting in another forum but it said I was restricted because I had less than 10 posts. With your help I am successfully at 4.1. :good:

If you want to keep root i would recommend installing root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar.md5 from odin assuming you have a att phone. This is probably the easiest way.
