[Q] Vol Key wake - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Running Jedi Mind Trick and I would like to disable Volume Key wake. /system/usr/keylayout says that the keys are dropped yet I can still wake screen with volume keys and it's rather irritating.
How can I fix this issue? I can't seem to find anything in the rom thread

Is this not normally an issue or is it the norm? 50+ views and no advice? Not impatient, but curious if this is jellybean related, cuz I've found stuff for ics but none of them work.

First of all volume wake is not aJB function...it's a dev creation. As far as ptmr3's rom, it's built in, and a few people have requested a way to disable it. ptmr3 commented he will keep it in mind. Stay tuned to his thread and see if he makes a zip to disable it. He's aware of the request.

[Q] Is there a way to disable volume button wake?

Its a silly little thing, but the volume button wake 'feature' really kills me because the phone will wake itself all the time while sitting in my pocket in class, because the volume buttons are so much more sensitive than the lock button;
But I was wondering if there is a simple way of disabling it?
Perhaps a system file replacement?
Thanks in advance!

Pretty much every popular ROM I have seen on here has it enabled, but for reference I'm running Darkside v2, darkside kernel, CWM 4 recovery. And its not configurable through launcher, unfortunately.

since you're using darkside... it has been mentioned several times in his thread and you should know tdj included a mod section at the bottom of his OP that disables volume wake right?...
You can also do it manually by modifying a system file.
Its pretty easy, actually. Navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/ and open the file sec_key.kl. Then you just modify it by deleting "WAKE" and "WAKE_DROPPED" from the volume buttons.
You are going to need a system file editing app like Root Explorer, though.

Oh, thank you very much. And it never showed up when I viewed the OP and I had already combed through all the pages. I'll use Root Explorer
You really don't see it in the op?

App that turns off keyboard light

Is there an app that will turn off the keyboard lights? i know about Display > Touch Key duration. Thanks
Doubt it. Why would you want to turn off the keyboard lights?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
Waste of battery in daylight
Another really great reason to turn them off is so you can watch Netflix at night. Screenfilter works, as do Keyboard backlight controller and AdjBrightness.
You can change it's duration to the lowest settings which is 1.5 seconds in the settings.I did that and trust me it's hardly on. It's in settings - display - touch key light duration.

At some point I was running a battery saver that did this when I dropped below a certain percentage of battery life. It might have been Easy Battery Saver. Then again, it also could have been the built in Power Saver function. Has that been tried?
Did the last two posters even read the thread? Not only did OP say he knows how to reduce the time, I just gave the names of 3 apps that can do it and people are still posting suggestions to reduce the on time.
Yeesh. No need for the hostility. My suggestion was not for reducing the light timeout, but shutting the keyboard light off completely, as was requested. I did see that you posted some apps and I was merely suggesting another app.

Take it easy....I was simply stating that at 1.5 seconds it is hardly on and does not waste much battery.

So that you can save battery and BTW our mind is good enough to remember where the touch captive keys are...
You can use Screen Filter app to do this (just set filter to 100% and unset Enable buttons backlight checkbox)

link Ringer volume and notification volume

Anyway to do this. When I put vol up and down it only does ringer volume and not notification. On my s3 they were linked. Any suggestions?

I was about to post the same question but I found your post. I have exactly the same problem and just wondering if you found a way to fix that?
There is no way to link up since ICS. It was like this in Note I too. So Note 2 is the same is normal.
Now I am using Audio Manager Pro and set 3 shortcuts widgets - silent mode, very loud mode and low volume mode. Its linking both Ringtone and notificatuon when I set as profile widget only. Hope it helps.

How come this isn't possible anymore? Been looking for a way to make them link but big ended up with nothing working

I've got the same problem & i just noticed before that sony‘s devices had that choice to make them link or unlock although they were not ics device.
But i still believe there is a way to solve it...
Im wondering if its jelly bean related. As my Mrs s3 could do it. Then she did an OTA to JB and it stopped working.

Bump for answer.
This isn't a JB issue though, my Gnex linked ringer and notification volumes up to 4.2. So I don't know why Samsung would disable this feature in TouchWiz.
Anyone figure this out yet? I installed the NOTEorious rom hoping it would have them linked but it didn't either. I had installed at least 4 roms on my old Epic and every one of them had this link option. Seems weird they would still not provide it. Also, I want the volume keys to change tracks when the screen is locked which even blackberry's had and yet Samsung still can't put it on the phone. All my old Epic roms had that functionality too.
I might try Jedi X rom, any one know if it add these functions?
FINALLY
This app solves the problem! Credits to the developer, can't thank him enough bcos it was such a pain to find something that works for this simple problem...

UPDATE : after 2 days of use, i can confirm that it's perfectly working as intended on my Stock unrooted Galaxy Note II. I highly recommend it if u have been struggling to find something for volume linking.

HOME button after JB update

Hi there. Before update to JB on my S3, when i do my readings on the phone, screen blackout, press the HOME button, the screen will come back up.
Now, screen blackout, press HOME button, screen come back up but the app or browser that I'm using will close down instead of just led the screen on (where the app still there)
Anyone has a way to fix this? Keep pressing on the POWER button to light up the screen is not as Convenient as by using the HOME button.
Thank you.

Glad it's not just me. This has been driving me bonkers ever since I updated. It's really the only complaint I have about the official 4.1.1. ROM right now. Would love to hear some suggestions on how to fix. In the meantime, I've been trying to train myself to use the side power button for screen on action.
Is there anyway that we can make suggestions on this matter?
It bugs me when I read on the bed at night.

this has been happening on jelly bean ROMs (not cm tho) ever since the leas came out - at least for me anyways. very irritating sometimes but yes, you are not the only one.
Bump. No one else is annoyed by this but us or has any idea for a fix?
Only 'fix' is to use smart stay when theres enough light. Otherwise increase your screen on time to one min. I had to increase my time since I use it at night so often.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
An easy fix is just to use your power button as soon as the screen blacks out.
It wakes the screen back up without closing down the current app your in... I just tested it out and it works, doesn't lock the phone either.
But if you don't wanna use the power button then I suggest you increase your screen time out to one minute or more if you don't want the screen blacking out fast.

Very annoying and not something that can be considered useful in anyway, so a bug in my opinion.

Does it work in the dark when reading in bed like the OP asked? My comment was criticism of why they coded it this way,for what purpose?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Its really just doing what its supposed to before the device locks. I guess they expected smart stay to take care of it.
If you keep double press home to open svoice enabled it should also stop this from happening.

Bingo. This is the answer. I'd much rather have the slight lag in returning to the home screen than lose the ability to turn the screen back on with the home key. Thanks!

Disable Capacitive Keys on FK23

Does anyone know of how to disable the capacitive keys on fk23?
I just recently started getting the menu flutter hardware bug of doom and I just can't take it anymore.
I did the build prop mod to add soft keys and I'd like to now completely disable the capacitive keys but the system/usr/key layout is way different on jellybean. I'd appreciate any input...

Never mind, figured it out. If anyone else needs this let me know.

currently I'm on Tim's black ICS rom. I have the menu and search keys disabled through the key layout file. I will be upgrading to jellybeans soon and would also like to disable those keys. any information you can provide on how to do that would be great. Thanks!
just got 20 gigs free cloud storage. Should be available through the end of November if you use this link, up to 100 gigs free with referal. No upload limit. http://www.jottacloud.com/signup?referer=CCB2036802EEB8559E8F798A7A

I would like to know please, this phantom button issue is driving me fnin insane.
Woops sorry guys. I started a thread in themes and apps about this. I uploaded a file I've edited that will disable your capacitive keys in Jellybean.

Why waste the space? It'd be like the gnex right?
Because its worth losing a little space and not having the menu constantly fluttering. If you change the dpi there is not much screen loss from the stock experience. Yeah, looks like the gnex.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Ah my old phone did that not this one
Yeah mine was great and then out of nowhere it came with a furious vengeance of menu opening rage.
