[Q] Can I overclock stock Froyo+Sense by flashing a different kernel? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an HTC Wildfire off eBay recently and I'm quite happy with the Froyo + Sense interface.
The only thing I really want to do is overclock it.
1. I've rooted it:
-Revolutionary-
Buzz PVT Ship S-OFF
HBoot-6.01.1002
Microp-0622
Touch Panel-SYN3KY_01
Radio-3.35.20.10
Nov 17 2010, 12:08:53
2. And I've installed ClockwordMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
I've installed a copy of SetCPU from Marketplace/Play but I've subsequently discovered that the stock kernel won't let me overclock.
I'm not sure what I need to do in order to use a new kernel with the stock Froyo+Sense of the my Wildfire (if I can).
Is it possible? Can I just flash an existing kernel image or do I need to recompile a new ROM?
Other details of my phone (in case they're important):
Android version 2.2.1
Kernel version [email protected] #1 Tue Dec 21 00:48:06 CST 2010
Build number 2.33.771.1 CL306156 release-keys
Software number 2.33.771.1
Kind regards

1) what rom are you using ?
2) there is an over clockable kernel available for sense froyo known as "kylon kernel"
There is also 1 rem puzzle kernel you can try.
3) i recommend you to flash a better sense rom. Either flash kwbr rom which is very much similar to stock htc but ways ways faster. But for overclocking that, you need to flash the above kernel. Btw overclocking kwbr is not needed.
Other great froyo sense roms are jokerdroid 4.2/4.3 and rem puzzle.
You can overclock the above 3 roms without flashing a kernel
For rem puzzle 3.1, you need a partitioned sdcard ... So if you havent than i suggest you to wait for rem puzzle 4 which will be available in 1 or 2 days.
The most updated one is rem puzzle but other roms are discontinued.
For me, the best was jokerdroid 4.3
For everyone else, its rem puzzle...its upto your choice
You can get more details about it in the "android development section"

if u want to stay on stock rom then just flash kernel. i recommend both hdcr or kylon kernel. should work for you (;

i cant oc my wildfire even after flashing the kylon kernel.. where it did wrong? can someone help me?
well i would like to stick with the original rom..
unlocked, but with hboot 1.02.000.. unlocked via htcdev..
installed CWM recovery 5.02.0 and try to oc with setcpu pro and flash using kernel manager pro but it seem there no option to oc.. only the
max 528 and min 480

Do u have clockworkmod recovery? Do u have root access? If u got hboot with 002 ending i don't think so. First u have to downgrade hboot, then make s-off, then root, flash cwm and u are ready to flash custom roms and custom kernels (; then u will be able to overclock willy (;

(Q) Overclock official 2.2.1 Froyo

I have with the official 2.2.1 Froyo HTC Wildfire. Done with the s-off the alpharev, done root and put clockworkmod 3.0.0.6
I am interested can OC the CPU, not to change my rom.
Thanks
Sorry my English is bad
Not possible without changing to kernel that allows overclocking.
Thank you for your response, I thought it could be replaced by a kernel
No, you dont have to change rom, just flash another kernel...
Custom kernel list here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
You can look at nFinity MC4 (First link in the Custom Kernel list). Flash it, and you will be able to OC the stock ROM.
Flash I nFinity MC4 and install set cpu 480(min) and 691(max), works great on stock rom
Thanks

Mate You as per Your specs... I can say that you are already with the best kernel...
indeed nFinity is the best kernel currently.

nFinity is the best kernel at present.
Without wanting to dissappoint you, i flashed infinityplay (v10 flashable) on erwinp's e14 (nightly) and my phone wouldn't recognize any wifi after 1-2 days. I don't think you will actually have a prob on the rom you use, but if you do please state it. Thanks.

infinity by arco (your kernel) or infinityplay by keiran (more governors and IO scheduler)

I would give you two choices
Cyanogenmod 7.2 stable or
Kwbr rom ( sense rom )
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda app-developers app
thanks man
i'll flash kwbr rom
major of roms can be used as daily and have small number of bugs. i can recommend cm7.2 stable, rem puzzle 2.83, kwbr, splash mod, ics style by jm, cm9.1 by jordfaz, slymobi's mookie os but for games... you won't play much games on willy. no gpu and even simple 3d and more advanced 2d games are laggy ): it's not phone for playing. maybe if u install rem puzzle you will be able to play java games through jbed platform

With ICS, test this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063160). I have tested lots of roms with ICS but that one works fine !

Most stable rom for Wildfire

Hello, can someone advice a stable rom for wildfire?
All I need - phone, battlife, minimalistic (clean) and lagfree, .
I look into CM7 but here are CM stable, nightly etc. as for my other phone, I using nightly ROM and it very stable, what situation with wildfire?
Thanks, If question asked before, please point me on it.
My personal opinion would be to just go for CM7 ginger bread is the most stable rom others like CM9 have a few minor bugs.

You can see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075259
On wildfire, most stable roms are sense based roms.
I'd say, most stable include Jokerdroid 4.3, rem puzzle, kwbr rom, cm7.2 nightly ( jan build )
All roms above are stable, fast and with no bugs.

I would say, for fast speed and simple look, and overall just simple, IMO
1. CM7 NIGHTLY 2013 (Screenshot taking bug, you can use mdpi ics theme, its fabulous if u ask me )
2. kwbr rom (No bugs)
3. RemPuzzle_2.83 (Wifi icon bug, showing full signal no matter what, but if we put that aside, with some tweaking can be very good)
Hope it helps...
Odp: Most stable rom for Wildfire
Rem puzzle, kwbr, jokerdroid, cm7 both stable and latest nightly, cm9 by jordfaz and erwin's cm9 (;

Cm7.2 stable/nightly
Rempuzzle ( u need to partition sd card for this )
Kwbr rom
Jokerdroid rom
No bugs in these. There are many others too with no bugs. Depends on you..
Odp: [Q] Perfect Custom Rom
Rem puzzle, jokerdroid, cm7.2 lastest stable. Everything works. First two roms are sense based roms and to work perfectly you have to make partition ext on ur sd card and cm 7.2 is gingerbread rom.

Almost all gingerbread roms are stable so choose any you want
