Can you flash T-Mobile Rom on At&t Gs3? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have an i747m galaxy s3 which is unlocked, i downloaded the Wicked rom which has the multi carrier feature, i accidentally clicked on T-mobile device in Aroma and continued with the setup. What surprised me was that it worked perfectly ( I prevoiusly flashed an t999 international rom and bricked my phone) but i was just wondering if that is an exception with the Wicked Rom or do t-mobile roms work on the at&t gs3? while were at it do sprint roms also work on at&t? I'm new to flashing, any help is appreciated

Yes you can flash a t999 rom to your i747, I have flashed many of your i747 roms to my t999... There is no such thing as a t999 International version, though. International S III has a different ChipSet so they brick our US S III's. Read some more and be careful what you click or you'll be sitting on 500$ paper weight bud.

Yes you can. You may have to do some build.prop edits to change from d2tmo to d2att to get everything working right

glad you like the wicked rom on Att...look out because Evil1Art say wicked 10 should be out in couple of days.

You can use RootExplorer or Solid Explorer to edit your build.prop file located under your system root in the folder "system" (/system/build.prop)
Your build.prop is basically a configuration file that stores information about your phone.
The lines that you would need to edit are "ro.product.name" and "ro.product.device"
Once you flash the tmo ROM you would edit the above lines accordingly. Then, reboot the device for the changes to take affect.

T999 is the TMobile version. The other ROMs (Verizon and Sprint) CAN work, but you cannot just flash them like the t999 ROMs. You have to make some edits to port the ROM over before you can flash, otherwise you may harm tour device. I'd recommend searching XDA on "ROM porting for the S3."
Also, just so you know, for the build.prop, the code names for each device is:
"d2att" is AT&T
"d2tmo" is T-Mobile
"d2spr" is Sprint
"d2vzw" is Verizon
There are some great tutorials out there, its a little more in depth than what I can go into here.

[Q] Is there a way to enable call recording in stock ROM?

Hello there,
I have a rooted t999, unlocked. After going through multiple posts on this forum, I have realized that to enable the call recording feature on your samsung galaxy s3 t999, you got to install a custom ROM.
But, is there any way to update a .apk (or any other method) , compatible with the stock ROM on t999 which might enable the call recording feature back?
Cheers!

Here is the one from FreeGS3 r6.
This is NOT my work!
This the stock UVALG1 Dialer app modded by uoY_redruM, dev for the FreeGS3 rom. All thanks and credit goes to him!
(Try out his rom, btw. It is awesome!)
This should work on any stock based rom though.
I'm pretty sure this is where the mod is included. Not sure right now if its dependant on another modded apk as well. Heading to work so will check later if this doesn't work by itself.

So will this not work on custom ROMs?
Its the samsung dialer so itll only work on stock based roms.
It'll likely be dependant on other parts of the touchwiz framework and is integrated along with contacts and such.
You can try it but I would be extremely surprised if it worked on anything like CM or ASOP.

Wait, sorry I shoulda been specific I guess! I don't think you can install like a normal app.
Use root explorer and copy the original from /system/app for your backup.
Pay attention to the permissions it has and copy the modded one over the old. Change permissions to what they were before. Reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik, then reboot system.
Test.

Thanks a lot Doc!
This is quite interesting! Although I have root explorer, I am terrible with the android stuff and so I am worried about replacing this apk with the existing phone.apk. (its the lack of "recovery" knowledge that scares me to go ahead)
Has anyone of you experts made the dialer work so far through this integration of FreeGS3 phone.apk on the stock ROM?
Cheers!
Another thing that I just figured - In my stock ROM, I do not have a phone.apk (attaching screenshot)
Which app should be backed up? I am guessing that the GS3 apk should be renamed as the stock ROM apk. correct?
http://db.tt/t7Ig4rsG
Edit 2:
guys, just figured out that there is actually an .apk called SecPhone_TMO.apk (kept searching for phone.apk )
so, please ignore the screenshot above!
although, will wait for someone to try replacing the stock ROM .apk with the GS3.
Worked perfect on Wicked's ROM. Have to move the stock phone APK out of the system\app directory and replace it with Doc's. Make sure to put the phone in airplane mode first.
Question - where are the recordings stored?
Thanks for the awesome mod!
They are stored at /sdcard/sounds/
Thank uoy_redrum at the freegs3 thread. Its his work not mine.
.....hope he didn't mind me sharing it like this. Shoulda asked first.
Ill check with him to be sure though.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Especially if you make a copy of the original file as a backup on extSDcard.
Titanium backup works really well too.
Biggest thing to remember is the permissions.
If you can boot into recovery, wiping cache is no big deal at all. Wiping dalvik isn't bad either. When you reboot it'll rebuild dalvik but will use the new app you copied into system.
ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE ANYTHING!!!
That's the most important yhing you can do when messing with anything. It basically creates an exact image/snapshot of your current setup so you can go back to it at anytime.
Nandroid = Peace of Mind!

Jelly Bean wifi calling apk

Can someone please share this for me? I am using the i9300 and having wifi calling will be a real improvement for me. I've tried searching, all I get so far is that the apk works only on touchwiz (which is what I have), but nobody's put up a link to this mythical thing
It only works for Tmobile, if you're using international S3 it won't work.
It's not just a apk, it's in the framework too.

its way way more complicated then what you think it is.

The pack has to be built for touchwiz because of the libs used to make it work.
You need the wifi calling provisioning or it won't route the UMA traffic over the right T-Mobile gateway.
Files:
system/app/com.android.kineto.apk
system/lib/libganril.so
system/lib/lib_ril_switch.so <--- may be custom modded for vendor (ie: Samsung, HTC etc)
system/lib/libkineto.so
system/lib/libreference-ril.so
system/lib/librilswitch.so
There may or may not be other files but you can see it's not just an APK.

That is a start but im afraid that's about all it is. You'd also need wificall.apk (com.movial.wifiicall) and probably some binary files.
Also, even if you managed to get all the correct files, you would then need to port the code over to settings so you can use it. There is also probably code in systemui, framework, etc. I just doubt that simply flashing the files to your phone will work...unless the i9300 version of tw has it already and you just need it to work for tmobile. I dont think itll be a quick or easy thing to do.

4.2.2 on VZW GN with 4G/CDMA

Morning managed to get 4.2.2 from the gsm version of galaxy nexus working on my vzw galaxy by changing the build prop and adding and deleting some files in the lib folder and adding and deleting xml's for the vpn.. the 4.2.2 I flashed isn't mine so I take no credit for it just used it to flash because it was deoxeded and rooted already... it was zipped by bigxie (bigxie_magurTA_JDQ39-signed.zip) just look in the gsm galaxy nexus thread. Flashed rom first then flashed current vzw radios and then moded files and set permissons. The files were:
sys-Vendor-lib" libsec-ril_lte.so from 4.2.1 and deleted libsec-ril.so from "lib"
"ECT" apns-conf.xml from 4.2.1 and deleted the original file
"ECT--PERMISSIONS" com.vzw.hardware.lte.xml from 4.2.1 and com.vzw.hardware.ehrpd.xml and deleted com.hardware.telephony.gsm.xml
Modded Build.prop for cdma and lte...(there wasn't to many but not gonna list them all)
wiped cache and dalvik and now have a strong 4G signal and fast data...not a developer here at all, just tried to figure out how to get lte and vpn on 4.2.2 so sorry for bad post...good luck..
Mwalt2 did a complete mod in zip form with bigxie rom that is a smoother and grabs signals better and no messing with permissions and everything like that so way easier...here is the link

There are a few other things that will need changed. I'd think that your GPS and WiFi aren't going to work well or at all. I've posted a list of CDMA files that need to be included on this forum before and I think in the q&a gnex forum (search there first for posts by me and see of you can find it...I would but won't be on a PC for awhile).

yes the permission are set rw-r-r or 644 and it was kind of easy you just have to get lte/cdma files in the lib or ect so the rom knows to look for lte or cdma and not gsm...all they are are xml files and just have to add a bunch of ro.cdma and change the name in build prop..i was actually surprised how easy it was when the baseband showed correct and I got a blue 4g signal

no...I did flash the GSM 4.2.2 on my CDMA VZW GN, there is NO GSM RADIO IMAGE on the 4.2.2 GSM ROM the dev removed it.. so there is not damage to the CDMA GN... so you are just flashing a ROM meant to pick up GSM, all you have to do is replace the files so the rom picks up lte/cdma...and all they are are xml files and one .so file and the build prop to tell the phone where to look...thats all...it was actually really easy

the only way i figured it out was to look at the build prop especially the RIL lines..they give the exact file that needs to be replaced
ex. on the gsm: rild.libpath=/vendor/lib/libsec-ril.so libsec-ril.so is the driver the rom is looking for
I replaced the file in the "lib" folder and build.prop line with rild.libpath=/vendor/lib/libsec-ril_lte.so so the rom will now look for the lte driver
make sure the "telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice" line equals 1 it tells the phone that it is a lte/cdma device..if there is a 0 the phone thinks it is a gsm device
also don't forget to set permissions as rw-r-r as they are in screenshots and to delete out the gsm files ...they aren't named the same so there is no overwrite or replace.. you have to delete them. I don't know how sprint files and radios are setup though but I hope this helps...
You guys may as well replace the files in the gsm zip before flashing it and save yourselves some time. There's no reason to do it after unless you just like using a file explorer on your phone. Also, an easy way to see what is different is to compare CM roms for the gnex.

Devs:
This is a modified Nfc.apk taken from a Sprint build.
Here's a rundown of what's happening:
NfcService looks at /system/etc/nfcee_access.xml and checks for the Google wallet signature.
It also looks at /system/etc/security_nfc_profile.dat for certain files and their sha-1. If it can't match the file with it's sha-1 it marks the system as tampered and will not allow access to the secure element.
This modified Nfc.apk will always return true when it looks at security_nfc_profile.dat.
To-do:
Create a script that will modify features.xml during install.
Download:
SGS3_4.3_TW_nfc_fix.zip
Report: I just installed wallet according to the new post of yours and it all went well. I'm on MBJ bootloader and also on yours att deodexed 4.3 Rom. Here's the screenshot:

Thanks a lot for this, got it working good. Had to mess with it some, had some previous wallet files that needed to be removed and the like, thanks, I've always wanted to use tap to pay but never wanted to screw with the secure element

Works great! Been trying everything in the Wallet thread for weeks and never got it working until now!

Also, after I made the changes to the feature.XML file, I made a copy to my sdcard so I can just paste it should I have to reflash my ROM. Might not work if I upgrade or change my ROM, but if I bork and have to reflash it.

This is the s3 forums, I have a working zip for the note2, but androidfilehost is down right now. So here it is. I'll probably be making some threads soon.
I can finally upgrade to 4.3, just needed a working Wallet. Thanks so much for figuring this out!
EDIT: Finally flashed to 4.3. This is what I did. I forgot to disable Wallet, so I did so through the website, wallet.com. After flashing I edited the xml file, then I booted into recovery and flashed the nfc fix. Then I downloaded and pushed the new .apk. When I booted up, the wallet icon did not appear in the notification bar. And after setting up, I have tap and pay not available. What went wrong?
T-Mobile SGS3, Stock rooted T-Mob 4.3, nfc fix from your thread and modded 2.0-R141-V14 .apk
EDIT: I just noticed that auto-upate is on by default in the playstore. I didn't notice any update, but I wonder if that's what did it. Never mind, somehow I got the wrong .apk.
EDIT: Turns out it was the old MD5 modem. I was on wifi the whole time after flashing and didn't notice I did not have a cell signal. Wallet tap and pay is setting up! Thanks!!!
Thank you very much for the work that went into this NFC fix and for the work that has gone into the modified Wallet.apk. I had forgotten to reboot after pushing the app to system/app and the tap to pay feature kept failing. As soon as I rebooted and tried again, it worked. The real test will come when I can actually make it to a store to test. Thanks again.
After I pushed the right .apk and flashed the right modem to get a cell signal, everything set up fine. Used it tonight and had to explain to someone who was so impressed he wants to buy a Nexus or a Sprint GS3.

This worked for my TW 4.3 Note 2
Thanks so much for this thread. I'm happy it give the technical nitty gritty details as well as instructions. Tap to pay is now working on my T999 running rooted stock 4.3.
will this work for a vzw sgs3 with isis as well? i have isis and wallet on my vzw s3 and both are working right now. but not when i upgrade to 4.3 so i've temporarily reverted back to 4.1.2
Does this has to be done on s4 running 4.3 rom?

[APP] Sprint Diags - Easily Get MSL and Write PRL

Sprint Diagnostics AppEasy Method for MSLChange PRL on the Fly
Discalaimer: All features do not work but for our intent, this is a SUPER easy way to acquire MSL and write PRL files.
Cheers - TD
Prerequisites:
Touchwiz Rom
Your phone must be rooted and deodexed!
Signature verification may need to be disabled. If you do not see the app in your app drawer, please pull and post the services.jar file from system/framework.
Please include build and phone info and I will modify the file and resend it to you.
Installation:
Flash this in recovery.
Usage:
Getting your MSL code - in the app select Get MSL Code!
Write custom PRL - place .prl file(s) on internal SD, select PRL Manager then Write PRL. This will bring up a list of available prl files on SD for you to choose from.
Note: Not all of the features listed in the app work for the Galaxy SIII.
Does this app work for cm roms or just tw thanks

Thanks for trying. There is a file dependence that is required. If the file is missing the app won't even launch.
For the Note2, yes it should work on quite a few Touchwiz devices but the PRL write feature may not. It should least acquire MSL though.
The only issue I've noticed is that acquiring MSL does not work on all carriers.
Thanks I'll keep trying at least Ill have it when I go back to tw pretty sweet app I'm on sprint also

stupid question.
I flashed the sprint diagnostics app and I can't find it in my apps list. The app flashed successfully
where does it go?
I'm using a note3.. that may be the issue?
thanks

Pull your services.jar from system/framework (or extract it from your rom.zip).
I use root explorer built into Rom Toolbox, navigate to system/framework and copy and paste services.jar to SDcard.
Zip it up and post it here and I will modify the jar file so signature verification is removed and send it back to you in flashable form.
Edit: And you're on a Touchwiz rom correct? This is for Touchwiz only.

Awesome!
Been procrastinating flashing my second S3 to Cricket and this made getting the MSL so much easier...Think I'll flash over today! The only other ways I knew involved downgrading to a ROM below 4.1.2 and using the Get My MSL app or buying CDMA Workshop (which is just north of 100 bucks.) Had the MSL in less than 5 minutes total with this method. Thanks!
