Yes. You'll need to use Heimdall to flash TWRP. Then use TWRP to install SuperSU. You can get TWRP 2.5 from their website, you should also be able to find guides on how to flash a recovery.img using Heimdall on OSX.

Hi all,
I am new to android as my personal device, but I am familiar with the OS. I am pretty tech-savvy. However, I just rooted my I-747, and no matter how hard I try I cannot flash custom roms through CWM. Keep in mind both ROMS I have tried are CM9 and 10, 10 ending in a status 7 error. 9 might have as well, but I am not sure. I just know that it was aborted. Any help here, I am not sure what is going on? Any advice would be appreciated.
Are you using the correct CWM recovery? I am downloaded rom manager and installed cwm from there, have had no issues with installing either of those roms. Don't forget to do your wipes before you install a new rom!
Hmmm that may be the issue. I rooted without tripping the flash counter and then had to use adb to get cwm working. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it from Rom manager?

You can always try TWRP out as well.
Just push it to the phone via ADB or use a terminal app on the phone.
I like it more than CWM. :good:

Hey codycorexxx.... quick question on that. I have twrp as well...might sound silly...will it restore a CWM backup? I made a copy of my nanorid backup to the twrp folder. It shows up under the restore option when IN that recovery...just wanting to make sure should I need to use that backup....twrp won't have a problem flashing it.

Good thing you asked. Who knows what might have happened. I just remember reading in the TWRP thread it was incompatible. Not gonna take any risks trying myself haha.
I have searched and found no answer. Is there any other way to update the boot loader, because I have no access to a computer to flash with Odin.any help or advice would be appreciated, thank you.

It needs a computer version of odin.
Unfortunately bootloaders can't /shouldn't be flashed in mobile odin as per the dev Chainfire.

That's horrible news. I guess I'll have to find a way to get a hold of a computer
Actually, you do not need Odin or a computer to update boot loader/firmware.
Here:
http://invisiblek.org/sgh-i747/
You can find the download links for the latest firmwares for the i747. Download the zip package and flash it in recovery and you will be all set.

You can check out this link. The OP put together a recovery flashable zip that flashes JUST the boot loader. LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310

...but im really confused by it all.
Im not new to rooting or flashing roms etc but im confused with all the different builds and my efs folder and what not.
I came from having a moto atrix and a htc desire before that.
My phone is currently on stock XXDME6 with baseband DMF1 and im in the UK.
Can someone point me in the right direction to be able to root, install TWRP recovery and flash miui v5 please?
Any help would be much appreciated.

For TWRP: HERE
MIUI thread: HERE
Once TWRP installed make sure to make a Nandroid Backup and check EFS partition.
Then you will be able to flash MIUI safely.
The easiest way to root is chainfires autoroot but that won't give you custom recovery you will have to flash separately. Dr ketan has published a gude that is stickied, you can't go wrong if you follow that and dr ketan is always helpful and friendly if your confused

Thanks for the replies.
If i root using CF auto root, how do i flash the twrp recovery?
Is it only roms built using a stock base that i have to worry about the build number then?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
You can flash any build number I think the issue is with the latest modem which once flashed can't be downgraded . There are a few threads on it. If you want to use auto root you can use something like rom toolbox pro or I used mobile odin to flash a custom recovery. Personally I recommend phils touch recovery. I think he has an all in one root and custom recovery package that you just flash with odin

If I remember correctly you can downgrade to an earlier rom as long as you reflash your modem

The T999L is the Superior Cousin T999 never was. It has an LTE antenna that the T999 is missing. Practically all the Custom Roms will work fine from one to the other.
If you want to flash custom Recovery then use Goo Manager and hit Install Custom Recovery Script.
Yea already tried goo manager but it said no recovery scripts were found for your device

You need to use ODIN to flash that Version. There's plenty of Tutorials on How to use ODIN.
I know how to use it, I tried it last night but everything fails.

Could be your Bootloader is locked.
Are you absolutely sure you are successfully Rooted ? Please use Root Checker App if in doubt.
When you tried to flash the Recovery via ODIN, what was the error ? Can you post a screenshot ?
With due respect "Everything Fails" doesn't really tell me squat.
I'll do that when i get back home.

Does anyone have it backed up
Good question but how does one do that? Initial OE1 root users only?
Easy way is to root OE1 in Odin but leave stock recovery until Flashify is installed in Google Play (root only devices) and backup stock recovery. That could be shared to install with Flashify easily as well.
A harder way may actually require custom kernel? ADB copy the recovery to sdcard. I don't think that's possible with stock recovery and enforcing kernel?
Hopefully one that reads well before rooting OE1 the first time will come across this and help out accordingly. The adventurous trying the incremental OTA to get the 5.1.1 OTA, whenever that is, could make a short root and unroot quick stop along the way to 5.1.1 OTA to help out those stuck on OE1 without stock recovery. That would be helpful if so bold. And if so willing, root/TWRP/backup everything on 5.1.1 and try to Odin another stock to see if Odin is still broke. If you're thinking, "you first", I'm not that adventurous myself but rather patient, waiting for the tar or all clear on Odin. Regards to unfortunate on OE1, especially if they have to wait for a tar.

I think I understand your request. But you need stock recovery and unroot to take the next OTA if not waiting for a tar.
Unroot can be done within SuperSU app.
What am I not reading correctly?

I know that if you don't have it, you need someone who still had it to help. Forgive me but I wasn't telling you how to get it but asked someone who could help to get it to you.
I quoted you to say you ask a good question. But for the benefit of someone not knowing how to get stock recovery, I made a suggestion. Sorry if I'm failing to explain myself.

Didn't you just get a swapped refurb? Stating it came with bob7? Did you flash oe1 on purpose after all that?? Lmao it's cool. Just curious. I like oe1. I'm fine. But to upgrade. Not sure which device yet. Sprint is offering early deal. Some free some 15 like S6 edge etc. Lg g4. M9. Not sure if I want these. Might wait for note 5 or go ahead and buy one now and pick up note 5 on release.

Per the developer, Flashify backups of kernel and recovery are raw .img files.
He says you should be careful using these with compression formats. I would think the .bin extension got placed there by the process of uploading and storage and downloading. For those downloading, to remove it or rename without knowing how it was uploaded is risky.
To answer the questions that followed your upload, can you share with us the process you used? Did you convert it or just upload the original raw file with no extension? I suspect the latter is true since it appears to have no compression.
If uploaded as raw/no extension, I'd say just remove the .bin extension to flash as raw in Flashify before unrooting. (When trying to return to stock.)
Thanks in advance.
