Hi,
I have tried several ROMs on my desire but none of them is working perfectly.
The only rom that somehow makes it possible to work is dj-droid
Leedroid and Chinese rom kept on crashing
The phone keeps crashing if I use it to much. (run a demanding app like waze or o game)
It even crashed when I use the internet for too long.
All of this made me come to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the hardware (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
Now I want to get my phone to his stock condition.
I know that I need to download something called a RUU file.
I found this thread, but I can’t figure which ROM should I D\L.
I suppose it should be something marked as WWE and the numbers are the radio version.
From what I can see my radio version is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 (found in setting-> about phone -> Software information Baseband version) is it really the radio or I’m looking at the wrong place?
Can I use any RUU file is there a specific RUU should I D\L because in the thread I found the highs radio version is 32.30.00. If I need a specific ROM can some please point to the right direction.
Also I’ll be happy is some will explain to me what are the steps to install the RUU file, or is it same thing as installing a custom ROM ?
Please feel free to throw any other suggestions that might help to set my desire to it’s proper condition.
Thank in advance
Mark
P.S
I had froyo 2.2 and my HBOOT is 0.93.001
In order to return to stock, just connect the phone to the pc and run the RUU (it's just an exe file). The latest OFFICIAL European rom is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828519
That will upgrade HBOOT and Radio, you really need that. In case you'll need to get root access, just download unrevoked (google it), but remember to uninstall HTC Sync in case you have it installed before running it.
After rooting, just reflash the rom of your choice and keep the new radio, just don't change it, it's superb.
Hint: before flashing any rom on top of each other, remember to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and user data, so you won't get any crash.
To restore data I suggest MyBackup Pro, gives less issues than Titanium Backup.
You need a gold card to flash anything other than the one that originally came with the phone. Radio is irrelevent

Radio is responsible of many crashes: an old radio not compatible with the camera app gives FCs.
Why would he need a goldcard if he already rooted?? To go back to stock just enter in the bootloader, select fastboot, connect via usb, start the RUU and you're done.
Thanks,
I'll try the attched RUU and update with the result.
BTW
is the there posibility i'll brik my phone during this procedure ?
Oh and i anderstand that i need a goldcard only if my phone is/was branded.
Ok, I managed to restore the phone but after the installation it entered to a boot loop.
I let the phone rest for 2 or 3 minutes and it started up perfectly.
I suspect that if I'll stress my it's get too hot and crushes.
Any suggestion how can I confirm this theory ?
How did you get it out that boot loop? Resting? Did you take out the battery or smth?
Yes,
I had to to that several time before the phone started to work.

If the OP has a branded phone and wants to flash a stock unbranded RUU you need a gold card. Radio is irrelevent in the flashing of an RUU as you get the correct radio for the ROM included in it
I am just asking because I am trying to flash the Rooted , A2SD+ version of this ROM and after flash it just keeps looping (when the little green android logo appears and the phone vibrates) and does that on and on and on. Maybe I have to wait more.
Which ROM have you come from? IF it wasn't a Sense-based ROM you'll have to do a full wipe before booting

I came from exactly this one (latest OTA). It was rooted and as clockwork recovery did not work , I flashed Amonra. I did a full wipe, I formatted the SD card and then partitioned it, I did everything from scrap. I am almost certain I am missing astep or smth. Phone shows S-ON, maybe amonra doesnt get read of Security...?? I am not very good at this stuff, but any other ROM I flash works, except for the latest OTA (rooted and with A2SD- there is a post here on the forum containing it).
OR you mean a full wipe AFTER flashing, and before the first boot??
Chapter 2 – Return of the Desire
Hi again
First of all I want to thank you all for your assistance I had no problem to activate the warranty.
It seems that the constant reboot issue was a know issue of the A8181 series so my original phone was sent to HTC.
Finely I got the phone back and according to what I've been told it's a new device.
When I tried to use the phone I noticed that the APN settings were not transformed from the SIM card to the phone
(did not had that problem before I shipped the phone).
I tried to ran the RUU I used before and It seemed like I'm also going to gain an upgrade from 2.10.405.2 to 2.29.405.2 .
With a heart full of joy I'm pressing the next button and when the status bar reaches the "updating signature" I get the " Error [131] customer ID" error.
Noting I do seems to help fixing the problem.
I managed to root the phone, I flashed the LeeDroid rom, but i still can't run the RUU.
Any suggestions how do I fix the problem ?
I don't think my phone is branded as I bought an online store and from my provider.
Thanks in advance

Ok, I tried with the GoldCard, still the same error.
I'm trying to install.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.
Also i see notification on that tells me that it is safe to remove my SD card.
Can you access your sdcard on your phone?

nope,
can't access it at all
I think that's your problem then.
Have tried removing it, cleaning the contacts etc?

I think i messed the card in the proccess of making it a GC
The phone keeps telling me that it's sage to remove it
I dont have this problem when i insert my ap2sd card
try reformatting / remaking your goldcard.
HTH
My Desire recently had to be sent back to HTC for repair. Came back with hboot 0.93.001. When I got it back, I rooted it (using Unrevoked) and flashed LeeDroid 2.3b.
However, the phone has developed the common locking/rebooting fault and I need to send it back to HTC again, but before I can send it back I need to reflash the stock ROM (T-Mobile UK).
However, whichever method I try I can't get the stock ROM back on to the phone. If I try reflashing using HTC sync, then I get ERROR #140 or #170 (assuming the phone doesn't freeze during the process).
If I try extracting the ROM.zip and renaming it to PB99IMG and installing from the root of the micro SD then I get a message saying "CID incorrect! Update Fail!"
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get my piece of crap HTC Desire back to stock ROM?
P.S. if you haven't already guessed from the last statement or read any of my other posts about my Desire going wrong, I will NEVER EVER buy another HTC....their customer service stinks worse than a landfill site!!
The CID error indicates that you need a Gold Card, you could use the Gold Card tool in my sig below to create one quickly.

OK, I've created the goldcard. Now, how do I get the rom image onto the card? When the phone boots with the gold card in, I can't select mass storage. I've also tried the card in a card reader...it wasn't recognised.
Help???

Are you able to mount your SD card in recovery?
Try the following, I am assuming that you are running Windows 7: Try to re-format the card as FAT32 (if present, right-click on the removable disk and select Format).
1) Check if the device is getting detected in device manager. Follow the steps to go to device manager:
- Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
- Search for the name of the device
If the device is not getting detected in device manager, then check if it is hidden device.
- Click show hidden devices under View
- Expand all the nods under device manager
There would be many grayed out entries in device manager uninstall all the grayed out entries under all the nods and then restart the computer and plug the external device to the computer and check if it works
2) Install the latest drivers from the manufacturer website and even make sure the driver is compatible with the version of operating system installed on your computer. check if it works
Link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
Install the driver in Compatibility mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows
3) Check with any other another SD card if it is getting recognized or detected or you may even check if the same SD card is getting recognized or detected on other computer
I have the same prob
still having problems...

OK, I managed to create another goldcard with the goldcard tool in your signature. I then extracted the rom from the T-Mobile (UK) stock ROM and renamed it to PB99IMG.ZIP and dropped it onto the goldcard.
Rebooted with the goldcard in the phone and vol - pressed, got the boot menu. The rom image was detected and started to load (side bar in top right of screen showing progress). ROM loaded 100%, then got the 'checking ROM' message. Then..."CID incorrect! Update Fail!" message again.
I've checked and double checked the goldcard creation process and am convinced I'm doing nothing wrong.
Any other ideas? I'm beginning to think hboot 0.93.0001 can't be downgraded.
P.S. I'm running Vista 32-bit
No, flashing an old RUU over a new HBOOT won't work. The issue you've got is there isn't a 2.2 T-Mobile UK RUU available so unless you've got an AMOLED screen the only thing you can do is flash the stock HTC RUU
it is an AMOLED screen

Cheers Eddy. However, as far as I can tell, it is an AMOLED screen. All I want to do is get it back to T-Mobile stock ROM so I can send it back to HTC again.
Can't understand why there isn't a 2.2 T-Mobile UK RUU available yet.
It's damned infuriating!! Stuck with a phone I can't use at the minute...and getting desparate!

I know t mobile would know that the rom has changed from there own one to the htc one, but are the any differences apart from that if the htc rom was installed?
I mean would it run normally and recieve the normal updates ota, and would that affect if the htc was simlocked or anything?

It'd run normally but would get HTC OTA updates not T-Mobile ones. Seems the latest OTA doesn't work on debranded phones, though

@Eddy,
Since he has AMOLED, there's a multistep procedure he can try.
1. Prepare the goldcard correctly with a Format in Fat32 (and deleting any extra partitions. Only 1 partition should exist-It should be a Fat32 Primary). If Goldcard is correct, phone should not give CID incorrect error.
2. Download the WWE 2.29 PB99IMG.zip, and put it in the goldcard and run it.
3. Run Teppic74's downgrader with goldcard. At the last step, choose to use this PB99img (Run this RUU while monitoring your Temp folder for changes. When the RUU loads and displays a window, search temp for Rom.zip. Rename it to PB99IMG.zip and put it in the root of the sdcard) instead of the Teppic one.
4. At this point the phone will have a completely working 2.1 Android OS branded to TMO.
5. Check for and update with OTA (You will get TMO OTAs at this point). Now your phone will have the latest TMO ssoftware and be as good as any other!
But they'd have to extract the PB99IMG file out of the RUU, the RUU on it's own won't do

Yes indeed, but quite doable. The result would be a perfectly unrooted T-Mobile branded phone.
Edit: Added instructions for extracting the PB99IMG.zip from the TMO RUU
thanks for all the advice.....
...but I've given up on my Desire.
I can't use it for more than 2 minutes at most without it freezing up!! This is nowhere near long enough to do any of the above! I've even tried resting it on a bag of ice to keep it cool, but even that was no good!
I'm just gonna sell it to one of the recycle companies and put the money towards buying myself out of my contract.
Shame really because when it was working, it was a brilliant phone!!
HTC seriously need to get their house in order QC-wise. I know they have been making phones for a good few years now, but people still say "HTC, who??" and while they're QC remains as bad as it seemingly appears to be then that situation will persist!!
Think I'm gonna take a risk on the LG Optimus 2X when it comes out!! Why? because I love Android...I love bleeding edge...only now I hate HTC with a passion!!!

Same here. If anyone can get my T-Mobile (UK) Desire (rooted, hboot 0.93.0001) back to stock ROM then I'd be willing to pay (within reason). Bearing in mind you'd first have to solve the problem of it not being usable for any more then 2 minutes even from 'cold'.
No software problem should fail to be repaired by running a ruu. If if freezes or loops while running ruu, that confirms a hardware fault which necessitates a return if the device.
No I'm not in UK. I know that what I described may seem overwhelming, but believe me, if you run the procedure I mentioned, step-by-step and with the files I linked, there is no reason why you can't have your phone up and running in under 45 mins. See the unrooting guide I've written, linked in my signature, for the step-by-step method of running the pb99img from an ruu. It's easy enough. Only things you need for a smooth sailing is a working goldcard and the file extracted from the ruu correctly.
Note that I can't confirm that this method will work for Slcd , and it is quite dangerous running a 1.20 ruu on slcd. Proceed only if you're sure that yours is an amoled desire

My Desire seems to have bricked after flashing via custom ROM manager via the marketplace. I have HBOOT 0.75 and S-ON (not sure what that means). I initially flashed my rooted Desire (with an older custom ROM) with one called ''AuraxTSense_8.1.1_Official_OTA_2.2_FRF91, and it worked. When I subsequently tried to flash to Neophyte's latest stable ROM, when I rebooted the phone it would stay on the animated X logo.
I have an Orange branded phone, no original ROM backup. I want to get back to the Aurax ROM above. When I reach the boot menu, holding down and the power button, I can select RECOVERY, but then I get a red triangle.
I dont have access to another Desire at the moment.
How can I go about unbricking my phone? Thanks.
You're not bricked, you just haven't properly rooted your phone. Make you SD card a gold card, flash a stock RUU and then re-root using unrEVOked.
And NEVER touch ROM Manager again as it's just TERRIBLE
Here's the thing - I dotn have access to another Desire to make a goldcard ... and I cant flash a stock RUU as mine is a Orange Desire - and I cant find the ROM for it anywhere - it doesnt seem to exist!
Is there somethign else I can do to reroot?
There's a chance that when I first rooted a year ago, that my SD card is a Gold card - no idea how to check, and what I need to do to keep it as a gold card (what shoudl I NOT do with it?)
look
Maybe its a try.
Hope that helps.

You don't need a phone to make a gold card as it's the SD card you're making. Just use a card reader
There's no other way of doing it otherwise

I need the CID of a Desire phone- not sure if I need from froma Desire with an Orange contract. That's if my SD card isnt a gold card already. I think I need to flash via ADB from my desktop as my phone is inoperable? If so, win 7 x64 cannot detect my phone as an adb device. What do I do?
Hi Guys,
Got a real strange one, have been searching around and cannot find any threads with exactly the same problem as me...so thought I would post...
There is a bit of a back story, so here goes...
A friend of mine wanted to change her ROM on her Desire, it was purchased new in Hong Kong, unbranded. She had had a problem when out of the country (in Taiwan) and had taken it into an electronics store. A lady there "fixed" it up for her. After a few days of use she didn't like the ROM the lady flashed so I said I would flash something else onto it...
Searched around, choose the Runnymead 6.0.7 SE (current at the time) and flashed it. I needed to use unrevoked, which put on ClockWorkMod Recovery too. Great I thought!
So after a bit of use, she didn't like that either (women huh!) so I told her that I could simply put the stock HTC ROM that came with it in the first place. She said great, and here's where it got interesting...
My thought process was that I could just download the stock HTC WWE ROM from shipped-roms.com. Boot into fastboot and run the RUU, but no, I got an ERROR 131 - CID blah blah...funny I thought, cos it was bought unbranded. My assumption is that the lady in the store in Taiwan must have gold carded and flashed a branded ROM.
Anyway, cutting to the chase. I am a little stuck, here, why? The Desire wont boot without the "original" SD Card in it. When I say original, the girl also asked me to change the SD card (she had a 2Gb and gave me a 8Gb). But when I changed the card over the phone wont boot, even after a full wipe via ClockWork. It boot loops at the "android" boot screen (from the runnymead ROM) with the new 8Gb card in it.
To change the CID so I can flash the stock HTC ROM I need to create a gold card, and to do that I need the phone to boot (with a card in it I can wipe).
Kinda stuck in a vicious circle. Right now I am trying to find another custom ROM to flash to see if it has the same "issue" as the runnymead ROM does (i.e. wont boot without that "original" 2Gb SD card in it).
But let me know if anyone has ever seen this, seems weird that the phone wont boot without that 2Gb card in it...I have the card and a spare, but as I understand the gold card process I need to put another card in the (or at least the same one wiped) which means the phone wont boot!
My head is spinning...
Any input is welcome as I am just about stuck!
Cheers!

Thanks stankyou!
I have reflashed the runnymead ROM and its booting up now, so will report back.
I do have a general question tho. If some ROM's require the "original" SD card to be in the device to boot, (I am guessing this is due to data required to boot the device being on the sd card, in the ext partition) how can I wipe another card (for gold card use) and swap it out and boot the ROM to change the CID? Bit confused...
Going to check out the supernova ROM now...
Cheers for the reply!
Whatev's
You really need not to worry about CID when flashing roms. You just make sure you make a full wipe via recovery, set the new sd card with ext pertition and flash your rom of choice and follow whatever instruction the rom requires you to do.

Hi stankyou,
I understand, but my goal is actually to get back to a stock ROM.
I keep getting the Error 131 (this was actually an unbranded phone, but somewhere along the line its gotten "branded").
I flashed the ROM you recommended...checking it out now...will it work if I take the SD Card out and replace it with another one?
Thanks!

All fixed up!
For those interested...
Flashed the Supernova ROM. This allowed me to change SD Cards...
Made a gold card and then ran the stock RUU from HTC.
All back to stock now.
Thanks for all the help!

You'll probably go back to Supernova once she complains about the lack of space for apps. Glad you sorted it out.
Recently rooted my phone using HTC Dev method, however after some kind of recent OTA update my phone was locked again. Pull the SD card out to boot. If you have a pc handy, remove the PG32IMG.zip file from your sd. If not, boot without your sd card and use a file manager on your phone to move it out of the base folder of the sd. Your phone wants to install it everytime you reboot whenever it sees that file.
