Please help-reboot issue - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hopefully someone could give a few more opinions before I throw this thing in the trash can... I'm still having the reboot issue... I can use it for hours on end as long as the screen is on. It will stay on if its connected to any power source... But when its not plugged in and the screen locks it reboots about 3 seconds later...
Didn't do this before I took the 2.35 ota.. I've tried 15 different ROMs, different kernels, I tried overclocking and trying to get rid of deep sleep. Don't know what else to do. I'd love to try to raise the voltage but every kernel/ROM I use doesn't give me that option.
Also I'd like to mention when I boot into bootloader it immediately searches for pd98img.zip. is this normal? I never seen another boot loader look for a certain file.
Anyway, any help will be appreciated... I'd hate to get rid of this phone if its fixable...

The HTC legend always looks for legimg.zip or simular file name when booting into bootloader..
If you can't boot into android at all, even though you tried lots of roms and kernels it sounds to me like something has fried.

No no the phone boots and works well. But if the phone just sits there and the screen goes dark to lock itself it'll do a quick reboot. If I lock it myself it'll do a quick reboot. However when its plugged in to a charger it won't reboot if that makes sense... Its like the screen doesn't like to be off when its off the charger lol
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

Hey
If it goes straight into the bootloader, then it sounds like something has fried inside or there is something stopping it booting.
Have you flashed the boot.img with each ROM?
And yes, if it looks for a PD198IMG.zip it is normal.
If you need some extra help, post in the Ace Think Tank & you'll get some help pretty quickly

Ugh sorry guys I may have trouble explaining what its doing... It doesn't boot straight to bootloader.. .. It boots straight into the ROM like its supposed to. (CodefireX)... the device works flawlessly. Till the screen dims and sleeps. Then it reboots automatically. If I set the display option to sleep after 10 minutes, it works awesome for 10 minutes. Till it sleeps. Then it reboots. If I put it on the charger, the random reboots stop, and im able to lock and unlock the device like normal... If i unplug it while the screen is off, it reboots automatically...
I only posted a picture of bootloader to let you guys know which version hboot I have and s-on etc.
I shot a little video of it doing it. However for some reason YouTube won't allow me to upload.. And I'm scared a 2 minute 30 second video will rape my data plan if I upload to drop box....
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

Have you tried replacing the battery?

No... That thought came across me also.. I'll stop by RadioShack today if I get a chance...
But it still makes me wonder... It didn't do this before I took that update... I'll flash early ROM and see if the aahk will take to it so it'll s-off... Then I'll try to run the original RUU... If its still rebooting like that I'll get another battery for sure...
Is there ANY custom kernels that'll let me play with the voltage? I haven't seen one yet that'll brings up a voltage tab in any freq app.. Tried a few kernels sense and aosp... Tried kernel tuner, setcpu, voltage adjuster, and no frills

AAHK is retired.

one x doesn't turn on, charge, or go into recovery.

as title says. last night I was simply watching a movie when i noticed the handset was very very hot, which is weird as it wasn't doing anything too stressing, i figured id let it cooldown abit, not two seconds after the video stopped, the audio went all messed up. I turned it off manually, and it restarted all normally. it happened again, although it wasn't particularly hot, however this time I did not manually restart it, I figured id wait to see if it sorts itself out. Instead it turned off. And it refuses to power on, charge or even go into boot. No idea, what's wrong.

Got that twice with ma HOX...trust me...just plug on wall charger and leave it for a while (30mins or so) and when LED starts to flash, try to boot your device again.
i will try
This is weird but yeah I left in charge for about 12± hours, started flashing about a few mins ago and it's working perfectly. Pretty sure my phone is possessed. So yeah leave it in charge until it flashes.
Btw I'm not doing much, and it's already getting a bit warm, anything I can do to make my phone handle more? Is there a way to under clock this?

No idea then, motherboard may be dead if that's how unresponsive it is. If you have warranty send it off for repairs. Can you get into recovery? How about plugging it into a laptop/computer?

Has anyone tried this?
I had the same problem, no warranty because I unlocked it. Got it back, and found this topic.
Note: It can happen you need to try different pc/notebooks before it charges. I had to switch to 3 different pc s.

NOW it does not wake up, even if I put the power cord in no lights go ON, nothing. It's like a BRICK.

you guys think if I send this to reapir and play stupit that thay will now that i had unlocked bootloader

HOX rebooting every 2 seconds

Hi there.
Erm... It seems like I lost it.
It's rebooting every 2, sometimes 3 to 5 seconds. I can't do anything, and reaching the bootloader doesn't keep it alive. Battery was fine, 70% the last time I saw, less than a hour ago. Putting it in the charger didn't make any difference as well.
I managed to reach "power off" in bootloader, waited a few minutes and tried again, but it didn't work. Also, After I turn it off like this, it only returns to the rebooting state if I connect it to a power source.
Anything I can do?
Now, if I try using volume up or down, It'll just go between the HBOOT - FASTBOOT sets of options, thus I can't reach "POWER OFF" anymore.

Plug in phone to PC. Open CMD and navigate to fastboot folder. Type adb reboot-bootloader. Wait a few seconds then type in fastboot erase cache. Worth a try anyways!

Since adb requires detecting my phone, this obviously do not work.
I really mean "2 seconds". Here is a video of it:
Once it runs out of battery, connecting to the computer might work.

How did you manage to do it? It worked again or gave you a chance after the battery depleted as apallohadas suggested?
I left it charging for a while on the computer and then flashed the ruu.. u need to have HTC sync installed on ur computer else it wouldnt recognize ur device

I left it alone rebooting itself until it stopped - seemingly out of battery.
Put it on the computer and it's just rebooting again, like before.
Maybe something oxidated inside?
I can fix it. But only on custom ROMs. Why? Because it's propably boot.img problem. I had it too, when flashed wrong boot.img in Sense ROMs. Try to reflash the RUU.

Nope, you clearly didn't see the video and read the issue. If I have only a 3-second time window, and bootloader does NOT work, and nothing manages to make the phone keeps itself on for more than 3 seconds, how can a RUU be flashed, since a computer CAN'T detect it during such primordial boot step?

[Q] Rooted phone and now wont turn on

I recently Rooted my sealed samsung galaxy s3 without having a clue what i'm doing i downloaded this program called snapdragon to root it along with ODIN. The phone rooted fine everything was working okay, I even downloaded an app to see if the root was successful and indeed it was. I shut the phone down wake up in the morning to turn it back on and I get zero response. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Might seem obvious, but have you tried leaving it plugged in for ten-fifteen minutes?

Yes of course I've tried leaving it plugged in for several hours and the night before the phone was at 100% charge so I doubt battery is the issue.
Tks though

Ummm seems like u can fix it.... go bak to stock using odin as well and go back to stock and i believe cwm is going to be gone so as your root access so re-do it but this time guide yourself through a turorial(a.k.a google) and since you have to clue i think the best choice for you is to find a video tutorial in case your doubting or getting confused with the steps or sometimes to see what you did wrong that caused the phone to misbehave...

This is why I hate one-click-root kits, you get people doing things to their phones they don't understand, wreck it and come here saying "help, I don't know what do do!" Something like this you really should at least understand the basics. I hope this gets you more involved in researching what's actually happening. It's important to know what's happening to your device as well as why, that way if something goes badly you'll have an idea of how to get out of it.
Sorry, enough lecturing, let's see if we can get something going here. Give a bit more detail about what happens. You're phone is shut down, right? You hit the power button and no response, like the battery is actually out of the phone, or does it turn on and give you a blank screen? If it was a brick, I'd think you'd at least see the boot screen before everything goes wrong.
Ok, I'm going to go ahead and assume you've removed the battery. If you haven't, do so now.
If it still won't turn on, try actually holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds. I had a scary moment with my phone yesterday, rebooted it running Wicked v5 on Trinity and the screen just died. I've been running that rom for a week with just a couple of issues here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled the battery and tried again, nothing. After holding the power button down for a bit I felt a quick vibrate, then the boot logo came up. No idea why, I'm going to have to look into it.
Beyond that, I'm brand new to this phone and Sammy's Android devices so I'm still learning myself. HTC phones I could help out more with, but I'm still a bit clueless with this thing.

Yes I have taken out the battery replaced it several times. I hit the volume home and power button several times. When I do that I get a zero response nothing shows up I hear no sound its as if the phone is just completely dead. One thing I did realise is when I plug it into the computer and press the power button what would happen is it would connect and automatically disconnect
Can you get into Download mode? Volume down + Home + Power button?

Don't forget to let go of the power button when going into recovery.
Have you done what the other post said?
Hold power for about 10-30 seconds. Does it do anything? Do you feel a verrrry slight vibration?
When you plug it in without doing anything else does the computer see it in device manager? How about if you press power once? Or holding power down?
Does it register that its charging?
This may sound dumb but did you try powering up without the phone plugged into anything?

Ummm. Sorry but maybe im missing something? Your first sentence in your op says you didnt have a clue what you were doing....
And where is it supposed to infer that you've done everything already?
Imo you have been getting 'real' advice but from what I see you haven't 'really' answered anyones suggestions.
No one can help you if you dont tell us what exactly you have tried and what what happened when you did.
For example in your only response you mentioned hitting the volume and home keys a bunch of times....what exactly do you mean by this? Did you hold them while trying to power up? Volume up or down? Did you release any of them during that process, and if so which and when?
Its kinda hard to help someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing and only responds that hes done everything common sense dictates.
I seriously mean no offence but to me common sense would dictate that you not try rooting or anything if you know you dont know what you're doing.
It would also dictate that if you want further help with this you should go back and respond to what everyone suggested.
Like I said, im not trying to offend, just help.

I am having the same issue
I just tried flashing Android Revolution to my phone. I went through the whole set up process. Went to reboot then it went blank. Nothing. I get nothing when I plug it in. The computer doesn't recognize any device attached to it. I've tried all the ideas listed here and I get nothing. It's as if the phone is completely dead. When I flashed the rom my battery was at 90%. I've used various roms on different phones and this was the first time I did it to my Galaxy s3 and this is the first time it's ever happened. Talk about frustrating.

[Q] Phone won't continue boot up

Hi all, I'm really hoping someone can help me with this. I'm not sure if the phone is hard bricked as it starts up after a battery pull but shuts down immediately after no matter what mode I try to boot up in. On a normal start up it gets to the splash screen then shuts off and is unresponsive without another battery pull which triggers an automatic reboot. Trying to boot into recovery never works as I never get to the 2nd splash screen before the phone shuts back down and going into download it shuts off as soon as I get andy on the screen. Also in addition when I connect it to my computer it's usually off since I can't start it up and my computer won't recognize it regardless even if I manage to get it to turn on when connected. Any ideas? I haven't flashed anything today and it was working fine, a random reboot in walmart and it was dying then it just died and nothing is working even swapping in the battery from the gfs s3. Help me pls if it helps I was on the tw s4 dream rom and kt 5-31 kernel and used team kernelizers mod build props and all. Help pls guys

Hey man,

Did you try to over clock your device? Did you mess with the kernel settings at all?
When you place the battery in your device does it automatically turn on or do you still have to hold down the power button?

Thank you god tell me you know how to fix it too lol.
Yea I have I use KT's kernel and use presets from team kernelizers, personally I think I know what the issue is I just didn't want to go around tossing blame. I don't think my phone likes the build prop mods included in there tk mod package. It started acting funny after I flashed them, but I figured the phone would settle down after a few cycles. I was actually about to revert them once the phone booted but it never happened. Sorry for long winding it and it turns on autmoatically. Nothing happens when I press the power button, it also shuts off within 2-3 seconds regardless of what mode I try to boot into. Pls help me if you can, I'm hoping I can fix this in the comfort of my home and not take it out for jtag repair.

I've had problems where I've tried to over clock my device and its sent me into a crazy boot loop but I was able to get into the device in between boots and change it back to stock(which obviously you Dont have the luxury of doing) so I'm kind of at a loss. If you put your battery in and the phone automatically boots without you pressing the power button then that might be your cause for the rapid reboots. I suggest you look into getting the power button repaired if that's the case. Or do it yourself. Shouldn't be too expensive. Hopefully someone in the community. Can shed some light on this matter better than I but from where I'm standing that seems to be your only option. I'm sorry I Dont have have a fix for you. Goodluck

It's funny, nothing would work. I went up to the cottage for a week came back down started messing with it and I managed to get it to freeze on the splash screen, my computer would recognize it though so it was a start. I then connected it to the pc and tried to flash stock through odin(obviously wouldn't work because the phone wasn't in download mode) so I tried to boot into dl mode it took a couple tries but it finally stuck. I was then able to flash stock and it's been fine ever since. I just rooted it and installed twrp. I want to flash a rom but the links for the roms I want is down so I'll wait or flash an old version of the rom I got on my sd. Thanks for the response and I'm just glad I got it to work and didn't have to pay the $50 for jtag repair which is what I was about to do lol.

[Q] My TMO S3 (T-999) will not turn on.

I didn't have luck finding an answer to this on the forums so I figured I'd make a new post. I have been running a version (not sure which) of Liquid Smooth for a few months. Yesterday, I noticed my phone was on a boot loop. It would vibrate, show the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen and then turn off. I pulled the battery and memory card and tried again. It still wouldn't come on. I pulled the battery and then rebooted to recovery mode. I went there to wipe and reboot. When I tried to do that it said something like, "what you are looking for can't be found". I pulled the battery again but this time when I tried to turn it back on it did nothing. I have no vibrations, I have nothing on my screen. I'm not sure what could have happened because I haven't made a change to my phone for quite some time. Any ideas?

Battery is going bad or the hardware is going bad.
What recovery and version?
Have you tried booting into recovery or download mode?
Take battery out and put back in:
Recovery: volume up, home button, power
Download mode: volume down, home button and power

I'm not able to get the phone to come on so I don't know the versions of anything I've used. All I know is my phone is the T-999. Sorry, I know that's probably no help at all.
You don't have a spare battery do you? If not, you should see if you can find someone you know that has one. It could be that you battery just went bad.

I tried all of this but did not have any luck. The phone doesn't do anything. It doesn't make any sense how it can just stop working out of nowhere like this. Wouldn't it mess up immediately after I rooted/added a custom ROM if I did something wrong rather than a few months later? I'm afraid that the phone may be done for. : (

I hate to say it, but usually when something like this happens it's most likely to be hardware related. If you don't have access to a spare, go to a T-Mobile store and ask to borrow a battery to see if it'll power up with a known good one. Batteries usually don't just die like that, but it can happen.
So you don't get a short vibe or anything out of it? What about when you hold the power button for about 10seconds? If you remove the battery and plug it in, do you get an led lit up? How about with the battery in?
If the battery turns out to be good, you could attempt the debrick method by KAsp3rd stickies in development. I don't see why it would be a brick, but at this point I'd try anything available just to be positive.
If you have insurance on it, it may be time to consider using it.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you man. These S3's are starting to get a little old though, and no matter how careful we are, they do suffer more abuse than any other electronics we may use. I'm seeing more and more posts like yours recently, I'm sorry to say.
Keep us updated on it, and good luck with it!
