[Q] [Noobie] HTC Desire/AOKP VJ 4.2.2/PlayStore issue - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My understanding is I can't post directly to the HTC Desire forum, due to the xda 10 posting rule, so I'll try and ask here.
I've installed a new ROM on my HTC Desire (AOKP VJ 4.2.2), previously had the CyanogenMod 10 ROM installed
from the same author, VJ (aka CM10_VJ_4.1.2_V3.1_with_GApps.zip).
With CM10/Android 4.1.2 I don't recall having any issues downloading apps from the Play store. However, since
upgrading to AOKP VJ 4.2.2, I receive an error when trying to re-install certain apps.
I cannot install some apps, eg. Runtastic (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runtastic.android&hl=en)
nor RunKeeper (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper.pro&hl=en).
The message from the Play Store is "Your device isn't compatible with this version" and so I don't have an install button
to proceed (however, I had both of these apps working fine under CM10 4.1.2)
I also cannot restore it from my Titanium backup, the message it returns is "X App not installed". How do I go
about getting either of these applications installed.
Help?

You understand wrong. You only cant post in the dev section where this doesnt belong anyway. I will mov it there for you.
Your biggest issue maybe that those apps dont work with 4.2.2 as no device has this officially yet.

It might be a DPI issue or try placing the app into the system/app directory and setting permissions

Just to clarify, I have the HTC Desire (Bravo) not the HD.
I have found in the forums (eg. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184742) where it has been installed on Galaxy S3 4.2.2, however they are reporting issues in the way it is calculating distances. My issue is the Play store, nor Titanium backup will allow me to install.
I've taken a look at androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/64603-installing-apk-in-system-app-directory.html in regards to how to put the apk in the system/app directory, but how can I place the apk in the system/app directory when I can't get to the apk from Play store or Titanium backup?
Thanks in advance!

Is there a reason you're not posting this in the Desire S forums? For all we know, this could be a phone- or ROM-specific problem. Your phone's forum's members would know that kind of stuff much better than we would.

Well go back to when those apps were working on earlier builds or different ROMs than make a BU of those specific apps..that backup is saved to your sdcard..than when you flash that ROM you wanted...use a file browser, navigate to the saved TiBu folder and there's that app..copy it than paste into the system/app directory, set permissions than reboot

AFAIK,now correct me if I'm wrong but 9 times our of 10 those kind of Google play store errors are generally caused by using a screen resolution size that is either to big or to small...The only solid fix I know of when it comes to that issue is to purchase LCD density modder pro, change the dpi, download the dsf file and the modified play store file, install than reboot..after reboot you have a changed DPI and you know longer get the updated versions on Google play store such as 3.10.14 or the latest 4.0.25...

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I tried another option (installed CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.2), and all those apps
now install fine from the Play store; all good now.
Thanks again.

New Market CRASHING!!!!!!!

My market is updating to new v3 of the market and crashes within 10 seconds after starting..
I have tried a few things but no good. I like the new market but I cannot run it. I have to uninstall updates and use old market, which runs stable.
Any Help will be appreciated
Using HTC Desire Z rooted with CM7.
So the new market 3.1.3 right? If so, I was having the same issue. What I did is keep the market you were previously using, 3.1.0 I believe. Then download the APk for the new version and install it. It will ask to replace the current version. Click yes. This worked for me and now I'm having no issues.
Correction market 3.0.27 is the one I was using before the new one 3.1.3.
tried installing from the apk , tried learing cache and data, tried rebooting a no. of times.. nothing working. It keeps crashing..
any1 else here knows a solution ??
n btw my market version is currently 2.3.3 which runs fine.. i cant update to any newer version .. :s
Man i have this problem too!
So i went back to 2.3.3
Juat wait until the rom your using gets updated so it has the new market

Go into your settings and make sure your language is set properly, some folks are finding that resetting their language fixes the problem.

Worked for me. CM 7.0.3 on Desire-z
Btw NEW new market works much better. No more busted updating process of being told there is an update yet there being no update button.

err.. don't mean to sound stupind but from where is the "languages Menu" ??? i can't find it anywhere in the old market :s
It's in your system menu. Seems to have worked for me too.
Thanx a lot guys!!
Its kinda weird how u can fix a market crashing problem by changing the language in system settings. btw my language was set to hd(unitesd states) changed it to English. Market is working fine now.
A great community and really helpful people! cheers!

As soon as I enter the newly installed market, I get a blank background for a couple of seconds and it directly crashes saying that the application stopped unexpectedly.
I am using XDAndroid (Froyo FRX07 on my Blackstone).
I don't think I can reach the menu?!?!?
The only problem I got, it won't always download..
first I had stock rom Desire HD with the new Market.. sometimes I couldn't install someting... and now I got the Android Revolution Rom HD 6.1.0 with the new market, same problem..
So I guess it''s the market problem, not our phone problem
Re-selecting language worked for me also.
Thanks!
THANKS! Re-selecting the language trick worked for me too!
HTC Desire (bravo)
this is a bug almost everyone has .. why isn't any1 fixing this :s ??

The economist app not compatible with ICS 4.0.3 FC15 ?

I love this magazine and I'm paid subscriber, and I last night I upgraded my custom ROM to ICS 4.0.3 and I'm getting 'this app is not compatible with this device' error.
I have a SG2 running a custom rom.
Any pointers?
Thanks guys!
Where are you getting the error message? From market download?
Usually, most of the apps are running well on ICS. So, if you have an app already downloaded or backed up, try to install the app using backup.
If you don't have any backup, only the way would be going back to previous rom and download the app, backup and coming back to ICS. Try install the app from backup.
My one more question is, did you change the lcd density?

Thanks for your reply.
I tried installing this app by clicking directly on their website, which in turn sent me to the android market and at the top it says 'this app is not compatible with your device'
Unfortunlally I didn't back up any apps.
And no, I didn't change the lcs density, to be honest I dont even know how to do it, lol.
should I actually be doing that?
Is this a mobile echnomist lite?
I was able to download from my ICS FC15 Rom.
[update] never mind. I found the app also from their website and linked to google market.
It seems like only the way would be going back to GB (if you were able to download from there), and save the app. Then comes back to FC15 again to manually install the app.
Ohhh that's a pain in the a.......
maybe I could download the apk from a a website and try it that way?
I DO not recommend but if you can, that would be easiest way until ICS is formally supported.
For me, it worked like a charm in that way.
Now I'm removing the app from my phone.
I have the file, I think it will work for anyone that did not the backup
here it is
edit, I have to have more than 10 post to share a link, I post it on the economist forum ...
Come on Economist!
You would think for $100 a year they could provide a recent app. Think they got their heads shoved up their ipads.
I used airdroid to download the apk from my phone and then upload it back to the new tablet, worked like a charm. However, the app IS laggy with jellybean, definitely something needs fixing, scrolling is very jerky.

Settings/App(Google Play)/Clear Data/clear Cache/Clear Defaults then when you go to Play Store and sign in again it should work. This is how I always clear the not compatible error.

Could anyone tell me if Whatsapp 2.8.1075 is compatible with JB?

As I asked on topic, this is quite important to me cos Whatsapp is the only free messenger that my mom knows how to use and I'm a big fan of JB

I think downloading it from playstore doesn't work, complains about compatibility. You can download it from www.whatsapp.com/download
Thanks guys, downloading JB now
The given link did not work for me when I tried today from my mobile. (but works with desktop pc). The link i used to install is to use the word android after the whatsapp domain to get this app installed.
Also make sure to turn on the setting to install apps from other souces to get it installed sucessfully
could any jelly bean users confirm if PlayStore actually allows whatspp already? or is it will under "incompatible", lazy to flash my rom to check it out.
hope you guys dont mind
Yeah pal, WhatsApp works fine on JB. I have CM10 and all apps work. If you use SwiftKey then install titanium backup, make a back up, uninstall and then re install. This is because you lose it when rebooting.

You have to do a manual install (www.whatsapp.com/download), it wont install from the play store.
And then you can use something like Easy Installer to install the .apk
Well I already tried some jb Roms and all were compatible with whatsapp, but I never installed it from play store, I always restored it with titanium...

[Q] Google Play Store not working

Hi all,
Long time reader and first time poster.
I've just rooted my phone and installed JellyBean - JELLYTIME for DHD/Inspire4g - R30. I must say I'm well impressed
The only issue is the google play app does not seem to work. I have tried to unistall and reinstall it, use wifi only, delete app cache, use the website to download a app - all have failed.
Another issue I have noticed is when the screen is locked, and you drag the padlock to the camera or the google search, they do not open.
Could someone please advise as to how these can be fixed?

Perhaps you can try the latest version of Gapps 12/12/12 from goo.im - failure could be due to DPI compatibility issues.
Hi...thanks for the reply. I have installed gapps as suggested. But I still can not access my account or Google play store. Google play loads up and says
Error while retrieving information from server. [RH-01]
Also another error comes up about the keyboard since installing gapps.
It reads:
Unfortunately android keyboard (AOSP) has stopped working

About the lockscreen thing. Just go to settings> lockscreen> slider shortcuts> then edit the camera. Just pick the camera app then change the camera icon to stock. I just found out this bug when i saw your post and try to do it, the camera shortcut is not really working so i edit it afterwards. Hope this helps

AOSP LockScreen Widgets on Sense

So a lot of people seem to have installed the AOSP lockscreen on a Sense rom and been unable to get widgets to work.
So the reason lock screen widgets don't work is google first makes sure you went through the setup process. If you haven't it only lets you unlock the device. While you can decompile some apk's and set the variables manually, the easiest way to do it is to install a SetupWizardTestAcitivty and just run through it (it should only ask for your name as the sense setup does everything else).
I've attatched a signed version so you can just install it like any other apk and then either from adb shell or a terminal app type
Code:
am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity;
Go through the setup (should only ask you for your name really) and then you can enable widgets
Feel free to message me or post if you have any questions on it.
If your ROM already has a setupwizard.apk in /system/app just run the command given. Don't delete it and install the one in this post.
Just tried this. Can't get it to work though

You have to first install and have a working stock lock screen minus the widgets/camera.
I've just tried it and it's working. Awesome! Thx!
Where can we get a flashable stock lock screen to use with this?

Uploading a couple. I added the cLock apk from CM10.1 as a widget. The next two screens show the camera screen. I installed the GE camera apk and haven't selected a default so you can see how it asks me which one I want. The last is just from my settings showing i'm running trick droid.

Select AOSP lockscreen in aroma.
is there a way to get the AOSP lockscreen on other ROMs such as Android Revolution HD?
I removed the HTCLockscreen.apk to AOSP lockscreen (I believe that worked atleast). Now after installing the setupwizard.apk and setting superuser permissions in terminal and running the command, I get an immediate error saying that 'setupwizard has stopped'. Any ideas?

Ok I got it working myself on Android Revolution HD 11.5.
To get AOSP lockscreen, just delete HTCLockscreen.apk in /System/apps/. Make sure you have the right permissions to do this. Then reboot and you have the lockscreen!
I got a new question myself. It's quite cumbersome to extend the widget manually every time I see my lockscreen. Is there a way to extend the widget automatically to full screen?

How did you do it? I am on ARHD 11.5 and I have deleted the HTC Lockscreen and have the AOSP one but when I try and type that command into terminal I get an error about needing to be user -2 and I'm user 0 or something. The apk won't install as it says I have a version already installed.

It seems ARHD might already have setupwizard installed (or something with the same name?). Try running su + the command. Or alternatively deleting the current version (it's probably in /system/app/) and then installing the one in the first post.
